Popular Indian TV actress Rupali Ganguly joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (May 1). Ganguly, who plays the lead in the hit primetime daily Anupama, addressed the press as she officially joined the BJP in New Delhi on Wednesday morning. Notably, India is in the middle of its general elections. 
 
While speaking to&nbsp;the press, Ganguly said, "When I see this 'Mahayagya' of development, I feel that I should also take part in this. I need your blessings and support so that whatever I do, I do it right and good."&nbsp; 
 
Rupali was joined by political leaders Vinod Tawde and Anil Baluni at the press conference. 
 
Ganguly, who gained fame playing Monisha in the cult comedy series Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,&nbsp;met PM Narendra Modi earlier in March. Rupali took to her Instagram account and revealed she met the Prime Minister. She said she experienced a mix of nervousness and excitement.

Sunita Kejriwal, wife of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (Apr 21) levelled strong allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre of attempts being made to kill the AAP supremo in prison by not allowing him to take insulin in jail. She further alleged that the government is constantly monitoring the food consumed by her husband.

She said that the Delhi CM did not desire power and just wanted to serve the nation and wished to take India to the topmost position in the world.

While addressing the 'Nyay Ulgulan Rally' by the opposition INDIA bloc, Sunita said, "Arvind Kejriwal has no desire for power. He just wants to serve the nation. He wants to make the country no. 1. <h2>'Consipray to kill Kejriwal'</h2>

Accusing the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to kill Kejriwal, Sunita claimed that her husband was denied insulin in jail which he has been consuming for the past 12 years.

"Many people say politics is a very dirty thing, and it's true. There is a camera over his food, his every morsel is being monitored...He is a sugar patient, and he has been taking 50 units of insulin every day for the last 12 years. But he is not being given insulin in jail. They want to kill Delhi's CM," the wife of the AAP national convenor said.

"They can never understand Arvind Kejriwal's thoughts. He believes he has received a very good education and upbringing, which is an obligation to him that he has to repay. He has struggled and fought for the country. He is very brave. He is a lion. He is only thinking about how to ease the lives of common citizens. He is worried about 'Bharat Mata' even in jail," she added.

She then read out Kejriwal's message from jail, elaborating upon vows made by AAP for the Lok Sabha polls.

"He (Arvind Kejriwal) has said if the INDIA bloc comes to power and is given the responsibility, we will all make India great. 'INDIA' is not just in our name, but in our hearts too," the former bureaucrat said.

"He has given six guarantees: 24 hours of electricity without power cuts, free electricity for the poor, quality and free education in government schools, Mohalla clinics in every village, and multi-speciality hospitals in every district. Farmers will get crop prices according to the Swaminathan Commission, and Delhi will be given full statehood," she further added.

Sunita Kejriwal accuses BJP of making ‘attempts to kill’ Delhi CM; ‘his food is being monitored’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi rebuffed accusations by the Opposition that there was no 'level playing field' in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls stating that these were mere excuses by the INDIA bloc leaders over their impending defeat.

Refuting assertions made by the opposition regarding misuse of the Enforcement Directorate, PM Modi emphasised that only 3 per cent of its cases were against political people whereas the probe agency seized a much higher amount in the last decade.

"None of the law regarding this was made by my government. Whether it is ED, CBI or Election Commission," the Indian prime minister said in an interview with news agency ANI.

He further highlighted that the BJP-led government also passed a bill that ensures the presence of a Leader of Opposition in the three-member committee to select the three Election Commissioners.

"In fact, we have made improvements in the Election Commission. Today, if the Election Commission is formed, then the opposition is also in it. Earlier, the Prime Minister used to sign a file and form the Election Commission. And those who were close to their families, such people became election commissioners."

He then took a swipe at the Congress party and said, "So our level play cannot happen, we cannot become like that. We want to go on the right path, we don't want to go on the wrong path."

The prime minister also heaped praises on the Enforcement Directorate saying that since 2014, since he took charge, the federal probe agency had contributed immensely in tackling corruption in the country.

"Before 2014, the ED attached only assets worth Rs 5000 crore. Did anyone stop ED from taking action and who were getting benefitted? In my tenure, assets worth Rs 1 lakh crore have been attached. Is this not the money of the people of the country?" PM asked.

"In the last ten years, we have recovered Rs 2200 crore in cash, while ED before 2014, could only recover Rs 34 lakh cash which can be carried in a school bag. While 70 small trucks (chhota haathi) will be needed to keep Rs 2200 crore. It means that the ED is doing a good job," he added.

His remarks come as the INDIA bloc has repeatedly accused the ruling BJP of misusing the central probe agencies like ED to target the opposition leaders.

Earlier, industrialist Naveen Jindal had quit the Congress and joined the BJP stating that he wanted to contribute to PM Modi's agenda of 'Viksit Bharat'.

He joined the saffron party in the presence of its general secretary Vinod Tawde.

Tawde said that Jindal's presence in the party would contribute to the government's agenda of boosting the country's prosperity and economy.

Jindal represented the Kurukshetra constituency in Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2014 as a Congress MP.&nbsp;

Renowned Bollywood singer Anuradha Paudwal, who has also lent her voice to many devotional albums besides film songs and has garnered widespread acclaim for her melodious singing, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday (Mar 16). The development comes as India's vast electorate is set to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general elections this year.&nbsp;

The announcement of her joining the party came during a press conference where senior BJP leaders were present to welcome the singer into the party fold. The event took place at the BJP's party's headquarters in the Indian capital of Delhi.

Paudwal, who has been active in the music industry since the 1970s, hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and expressed her happiness to be part of the party led by the PM.

The three parties held a meeting in Delhi where the alliance was formalised. Subsequently, a meeting was held in Amravati where the sharing of seats was agreed upon.

<h2>NDA in Andhra Pradesh: Who is getting how many seats?</h2>

The BJP will contest on six of state's 25 Lok Sabha seats, while the TDP will contest on 17 seats. Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena will contest two seats. For state assembly elections, the BJP will contest on 10 seats while the TDP will contest on 144 seats. The Jana Sena will contest on 21 seats in the state assembly.&nbsp;

"The names of the seats will be announced subsequently by the respective parties. We are driven by a desire to fulfil the expectations of the people of Andhra Pradesh. We are confident that the people of Andhra Pradesh will bless the NDA alliance partners with an opportunity to serve them to the best of our capabilities," the TDP readout added.&nbsp;

In other election-related developments, Prime Minister Modi will chair a high-powered committee on selecting election commissioners on March 14. The names of two new election commissioners will reportedly be finalised in this meeting. As per reports, the meeting originally scheduled for March 15 has been preponed by a day.

Ahead of India's general elections this summer, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a Central Election Committee Meeting (CEC) on Thursday night (Feb 29) at its headquarters in Delhi where the seats of Lok Sabha across nearly 17 states were discussed.

The talks also set seals on more than 155 seats for the Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament), the list of which is expected to be out in a day or two.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with BJP's National President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh, chief ministers, state presidents, in-charges, co-in-charges, and election in-charges of various states were present in the meeting.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: India's ruling party BJP to reveal first list of candidates soon

The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday night filed an FIR at the&nbsp;Vidhana Soudha Police Station, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka,&nbsp;alleging that supporters of Rajya Sabha (Upper House) member Syed Naseer Hussain raised pro-Pakistan slogans following his election victory.&nbsp;

The BJP alleged in its complaint that soon after the returning officer announced Hussain's win, some of his supporters gathered around and started allegedly shouting "Pakistan Zindabad" (Long live Pakistan) slogans in celebration.

"It was as if these supporters of Naseer Hussain shouted those slogans of Pakistan Zindabad hailing and praising Pakistan on the election of Naseer Hussain to the Rajya Sabha or Upper House in India," read the complaint.

BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted an unverified video of Congress workers celebrating Hussain's win, alleging that the slogans can be heard being chanted in the clip.&nbsp;

"Pakistan Zindabad slogans raised after Congress’s Naseer Hussain, political secretary of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, won Rajya Sabha election from Karnataka. Congress’s obsession with Pakistan is dangerous. It is taking India towards balkanisation. We can’t afford it," Malviya said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In the video clips going viral on social media, Adhikari, alongside his aides could be seen sitting on the road in protest against the administration.&nbsp;

Notably, Adhikari's visit was confirmed after the Calcutta High Court on Monday gave him the pass whilst ordering him to not make any "provocative speeches" or indulge in "any unlawful activities".&nbsp;

"I have a court order. Even then, you are stopping me. This is unfortunate. I will wait for an hour. Then I will return to Kolkata and draw the high court's attention to this. The Mamata Banerjee government and its police are not abiding by the Calcutta High Court's order," he said.

<h2>War of words intensifies&nbsp;</h2>

The war of words has also intensified between BJP over the allegations of 'systemic gang rape' and sexual exploitation of women by the ruling party's leaders.&nbsp;

While TMC head and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of stirring trouble in the region, the saffron party's Locket Chatterjee stated that Banerjee remained silent while women were being tortured under her administration.&nbsp;

"Right now you are not able to understand the situation of Sandeshkhali. We have heard of Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan and their atrocities on women, today the same thing is happening in West Bengal, and Mamata Bannerjee is silent. What is she saying? She is saying RSS is doing this," said Chatterjee.

"Sheikh Shahjahan, who is the leader of a gang, you have to get permission from him to file your FIR. Mamata Banerjee was saying yesterday that there is not a single FIR. That is why there is no FIR, because the police are in cahoots with Sheikh Shahjahan," she added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma talked to some of the women who have accused TMC leaders of sexual assault. After the conversations, Sharma said the state of West bengal should be under the president's rule.&nbsp;

“Many women at Sandeshkhali were molested. I heard about two rapes. One rape case was filed today. Nothing will happen in West Bengal unless there is President’s rule,” Sharma told reporters.&nbsp;

While Nitish sat in the chair at the governor's house and signed the official document after taking the oath, he seemingly, in a metaphoric way, also signed the death warrant of the INDIA bloc. Upon being quizzed by the reporters about why he was leaving the coalition, Nitish, before the ceremony, reasoned that it was due to the lethargy shown by the coalition parties and their leaders. "You all know how I came to this alliance and also how I worked to bring together so many parties. But of late, things were not working well. It was not going down well with those in my party as well," said Nitish. "Nobody was doing anything after the alliance was formed. INDIA bloc failed my expectations," he added. While Nitish did not give the outright reason, the political corridors are rife with speculations that it all came down to the seat-sharing formula in the state. Nitish was not willing to give up on his party's seats which eventually became the undoing of the coalition. Shortly after severing the ties, JDU leader KC Tyagi launched a scathing attack on Congress, accusing the dynastic party of attempting to hijack the INDIA bloc. "Congress is fighting for its survival. And it now wants to finish off regional forces," Tyagi said, adding that Congress continuously pushed for more seats in states dominated by other Opposition parties. INDIA bloc - a failure from start? The alliance, cobbled together after much trouble in a bid to keep the BJP-led NDA at bay, falling flat at the first hurdle of 'seat sharing', effectively depicted that the bloc was set up for failure from the beginning. Stitching a coalition that could brave the myriad faultlines of regional parties and egos of the different political vanguards was always going to be a stern challenge. After India's Directorate of Enforcement (ED) named Priyanka Gandhi in its charge sheet in a money laundering case, Congress leader Pawan Khera indirectly attacked the central government, saying it is just the "beginning" and let them do "conspiracies."

ED named Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in its charge sheet, mentioning her role in purchasing an agricultural land measuring 40 kanal (five acres) in Haryana's Faridabad from Delhi-based real estate agent HL Pahwa in 2006 and selling the same land to him in February 2010.

Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Congress leader Khera said, "Look at what they'll do ahead of the elections; it's just the beginning. They are not doing it for the first time; they do such conspiracies when elections approach. Let them do conspiracies."

According to the ED, the land was purchased in Amipur village in Faridabad from Pahwa, the agent with whom Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra also purchased three pieces of land measuring 334 kanals (40.08 acres) in Amipur village from 2005-2006 and sold the same land to him in December 2010.

The agent is the same person who also sold land to NRI businessman CC Thampi. The larger case involves fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, who is under investigation by multiple agencies for money laundering, violations of foreign exchange and black money laws, and the Official Secrets Act. He fled India for the UK in 2016. Thampi has been accused of facilitating Bhandari to hide the proceeds of crime, along with Sumit Chadha, a British national.

ED has named Robert Vadra in its earlier charge sheet related to the case as an alleged close aide of Thampi.

In the fresh charge sheet, it is mentioned that Pahwa was receiving cash out of the books for the purpose of acquiring land. "It was also noticed that Robert Vadra did not pay the entire sale consideration to Pahwa."

The ED investigation in this regard is still ongoing. However, a copy of "the ledger accounts in the books of Pahwa reflecting the above-mentioned transactions was taken on record vide letter dated November 17, 2023."

"It is submitted that Robert Vadra incorporated entities with the names of Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd and Sky Light Realty Pvt Ltd in India on November 1, 2007 and November 16, 2007 respectively. The same has been downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Whereas, an entity nemed Sky Lite Investment FZE in the UAE was incorporated on April 1, 2009, with CC Thampi as its sole shareholder," mentions the charge sheet.

"During the course of investigation of Thampi and his Indian eatities in the case bearing no. T-3/219/HQ/2015 being investigated under the provisions of Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA), it has been found that Thampi purchased land worth 486 actes (approx.) from 2005 to 2008 in village Amipur in Haryana's Faridabed district through one HL Pahwa, Delhi NCR-based real estate agent."

It is also mentioned in the charge sheet that Robert Vadra incorporated an entity in India with the name Blve Breeze Trading Pvt Ltd on November 1, 2007 which was later converted into an LLP.

"The email ID of the said entity has always remained as bivebreezetrading@zmall.com ic. when it was a Private limited entity and later when it got converted into an LLP. The incorporation documents of the said entities were downloaded from the website of Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It is the same email id on which one Beena, an employee of CC Thampi in Dubai, used to communicate in connection with the property at 12 Bryanston Square, London," mentions the charge sheet.

"During the course of investigation in another PMLA case (bearing fo. ECIR/OG/HIU2018) being investigated against Robert Vadra, his entity Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd, and others, it has been found that one Mahesh Nagar, resident of Delhi NCR, represented various entities of Robert Vadre at the time of purchase and sale of various pieces of land in Delhi-NCR and Bikaner, Rajasthan," it pointed.

In a statement, the ED on Tuesday also mentioned Robert Vadra in connection with the purchase of a property in London that is part of the probe.

Detailing the association between Vadra and Thampi, the charge sheet states, "During the course of investigation in this case, it was found that a long and thick relationship exists between CC Thampi and Robert Vadra. Not only a personal or cordial bond but common and similar business interests are also found between them."

Thampi, arrested in January 2020, ostensibly told ED that he knew Vadra for over 10 years and that they met several times during Vadra's visits to the UAE as well as in Delhi.&nbsp;

'Let them do conspiracies': Congress hits out at BJP after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra named in ED chargesheet

Bhajan Lal Sharma has been named as the new Chief Minister of the Indian state of Rajasthan by the country's ruling party BJP on Tuesday (Dec 12).

The decision was taken at Bharatiya Janata Party's state headquarters, in the presence of BJP central observers for Rajasthan,&nbsp; and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, national vice president Saroj Pandey and national general secretary Vinod Tawde.

Earlier in the day, Singh said that Bhajanlal Sharma has been elected as the leader of the Rajasthan BJP Legislature Party.

"Bhajanlal Sharma has been elected as the leader of the Rajasthan BJP Legislature Party. There will be two Deputy CMs- Diya Singh and Dr Prem Chand Bairwa. Vasudev Devnani to be the Speaker," Singh said.

Sharma, after being appointed, asserted that the state government would ensure the holistic development of Rajasthan in the coming years.

"I would like to assure you that all the MLAs of Rajasthan will definitely meet the expectations that the people have with us, with the BJP. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we will ensure holistic development of Rajasthan in all areas," he said on Tuesday.

Rajasthan BJP leader Dr Kirodi Lal Meena said that he was delighted that Vasundhara Raje proposed Sharma's name and expressed confidence in the CM designate saying that he would take the state ahead.

"I am very happy. He will take the state ahead. His name was proposed by Vasundhara ji and I forwarded the name...I am not in line for a ministerial post," he added.

<h2>Sharma meets Rajasthan Governor</h2>

Sharma met Governor Kalraj Mishra in Jaipur and staked claim to form the government.

He was accompanied by both the deputy CMs, Bairwa and Kumari.

Sharma won the Sanganer assembly seat with an exceptional margin, grabbing 145,162 votes against his opponent from Indian National Congress (INC), Pushpendra Bhardwaj, who managed to secure 97,081 votes.

India’s national ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Vishnu Deo Sai as the new chief minister of&nbsp;Chhattisgarh, a central Indian state that recently went into polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP emerged victorious in the polls, winning 54 seats out of 90. The incumbent Congress party was reduced to just 35 seats while the regional party Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) managed to win just one seat.

<h2>Decision taken in Sunday meeting</h2>

The decision to elect Vishnu Deo Sai as the next CM was made in the BJP's legislative party meeting held on Sunday (Dec 10).&nbsp;

Earlier, the party had selected Union ministers Arjun Munda, Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP general secretary Dushyant Gautam as observers for the state, entrusted with the responsibility of selecting the new CM.

According to sources, the elected legislators jointly agreed to make Vishnu Deo Sai, a tribal leader, the state’s new chief minister.

All three observers, elected MLAs and former chief minister of the state Raman Singh were present in the meeting.

<h2>Who is Vishnu Deo Sai?</h2>

Vishnu Deo Sai, a tribal leader, is BJP's former state chief and a former Union minister.&nbsp;

He held the position of State President of the BJP for Chhattisgarh from 2020 to 2022. He is also known to have close links with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), an Indian nationalist movement and the ideological&nbsp;fountainhead&nbsp;of BJP.

She credited her late husband, Rajiv Gandhi, for his efforts in bringing about a constitutional amendment to bring women's representation in local body elections.

She recounted how this amendment was initially defeated in the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Indian parliament)&nbsp;but was eventually passed under the leadership of Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, resulting in the election of 15,00,000&nbsp;women leaders across the nation in local bodies.

She further said that Rajiv Gandhi's vision remains only partially fulfilled and that its realisation lies in the passing of this bill.

Gandhi highlighted the patience and dedication of Indian women, urging the immediate implementation of the bill. While expressing the Congress party's support for the bill, she raised concerns about the prolonged wait of Indian women for political responsibilities and called into question the appropriateness of this delay.

She said&nbsp;that the Indian National Congress demands immediate implementation of the bill and also advocates&nbsp;for a caste census and provisions for the reservation of SC, ST, and OBC women.

She warned against any delay in the implementation of the women's reservation bill, stating that it would amount to gross injustice to women.&nbsp;

BJP MP&nbsp;Nishikant Dubey launched an attack on Congress, suggesting that the party&nbsp;was squandering the opportunity to empower women by politicising the issue.

"I thought Sonia Gandhi would speak rising above political lines but she did not mention Geeta Mukherjee and Sushma Swaraj who worked extensively for women's reservation,"&nbsp;said Nishikant Dubey.&nbsp;

While Oommen gathered 80,144 votes, Thomas could get only 42,425 votes. BJP candidate Lijin Lal finished a distant third with 6,558 votes. The Congress and the Left, which are part of the INDIA alliance but are the main rivals in the southern state, contested against each other and poll observers said the sympathy generated by the demise of his hugely popular father played out to the advantage of Chandy Oommen.&nbsp;

In Ghosi, Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh defeated BJP's Dara Singh Chauhan, who had won the seat in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls on the Samajwadi Party ticket but returned to the BJP recently. "It is a win for positive politics and a defeat for negative communal politics... It is Bharat starting towards INDIA's victory," SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said.&nbsp;

Singh defeated Dara Singh Chauhan by 42,759 votes. Chauhan was a minister in the first Yogi Adityanath government and had switched to the SP before the last UP Assembly polls.&nbsp;

This time, Chauhan was supported by NDA partners Apna Dal (Sonelal), Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (NISHAD) Party and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, a former SP ally.&nbsp;

On the other hand, INDIA bloc constituents - Congress, Left parties, RLD, AAP, and Suheldev Swabhiman Party - extended support to the SP.&nbsp;

Congress deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari said the win of candidates of INDIA alliance including the decisive victory of SP's Sudhakar Singh has "proved that public has accepted INDIA as an alternative to the Bharatiya Janata Party".&nbsp;

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Bebi Devi won in Dumri in Giridih district by defeating AJSU's Yashoda Devi by over 17,000 votes, according to a district administration official.&nbsp;

The JMM candidate who is also the INDIA block nominee got about 1,35,480 votes while NDA candidate Yashoda Devi got about 1,18,380 votes, the official said.&nbsp;

Bebi Devi is the wife of former Jharkhand minister Jagarnath Mahto, whose death in April necessitated the by-election. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said the people of Dhupguri embraced politics of development over hatred and bigotry. BJP's Parwati Dass defeated Congress' Basant Kumar by more than 2,400 votes in Bageshwar in Uttarakhand. Dass is the wife of BJP leader Chandan Ram Dass whose death in April this year had necessitated the bypoll. Her husband had been winning the seat consecutively since 2007.&nbsp;

This is the fifth time in a row that the BJP has bagged the seat. The three other candidates from Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, Samajwadi Party and Uttarakhand Parivartan Party lost their deposits.&nbsp;

BJP candidate Bindu Debnath bagged the Dhanpur seat, which has a significant tribal population, by 18,871 votes. Debnath got 30,017 votes, and his nearest rival Kaushik Chanda of the CPI(M) got 11,146 votes.&nbsp;

Alleging large-scale rigging during the polling and inaction by the Election Commission, the opposition CPI(M) boycotted the counting of votes and demanded a re-election.&nbsp;

The by-election to the Boxanagar constituency was necessitated due to the death of CPI(M) MLA Samsul Haque. Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik's resignation as the MLA of Dhanpur led to the by-election.&nbsp;

"It has to be heard. It requires hearing. Notice issued," the bench said.

However, it refused to pass any interim order and also said that no order can be passed without hearing the respondents.

The petition also stated that these political parties, during their meeting in Bengaluru,&nbsp; declared that they will contest the elections together in the year 2024 against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"By dragging the name of our nation, Mr. (Rahul) Gandhi very cunningly presented the name of their alliance as the name of our nation and tried to show that the NDA/ BJP and Hon'ble Prime Minister Mr. (Narendra) Modi is in conflict with our own nation, that is, INDIA and this attempt of Mr. Gandhi had created confusion in the mind of common people that the upcoming general election of 2024 will be a fight between political parties or between alliance and our country."

"That by creating this confusion, the respondent political parties want to take undue advantage in the name of our country," the plea said.

Hours after the opposition parties announced the formation of their new coalition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took potshots at them saying that their alliance was formed out of compulsion for grabbing power, and based on dynastic politics, whereas the NDA alliance headed by the ruling BJP reflects the aspirations of people and states.

Addressing the members of the 38-party National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday (July 18), Modi said that while their coalition works to unite the people of the country, the opposition divides them.

“NDA is a beautiful rainbow of regional aspirations... So nation's development through the development of states... At a time when we are working for a developed India, NDA is taking the lead in showing the spirit of 'sabka prayas’ (everyone’s effort)," he said.

Taking a swipe at the newly named coalition I.N.D.I.A, Modi said that NDA represents New India, a Developed Nation and the Aspiration of People and Region.

<h2>‘Opposition alliance born&nbsp;out of compulsion’ </h2>

He said that, unlike the opposition, BJP’s coalition with other parties is not of compulsion but of contribution.

"When an alliance is formed due to compulsion of power, when an alliance is with the intention of corruption, when an alliance is based on dynastic politics, when an alliance is formed keeping in mind casteism and regionalism, then that alliance is very harmful to the country," Modi said.

"Today people are seeing who all are a part of NDA. They work for the exploited and deprived, tribals and backwards... It is dedicated to the people of the country. Its motto is ‘Nation First, Progress First, Empowerment of the people first’... NDA is working towards delivering social justice as envisioned by (founding fathers) Gandhi and Ambedkar," he said.

Highlighting India’s history of political alliances, Modi said that a coalition formed on the basis of negativity would never succeed.

"In the 1990s, the Congress in order to bring instability in the country used alliances. They formed governments and pulled down governments. The NDA was formed in this period in 1998...It was not formed against anybody or to remove anyone from power, but it was formed to bring stability to the country," the prime minister said.

He asserted that when there is a stable government, decisions that change the direction of the nation are taken.

"We saw it during former PM Atal (Bihari Vajpayee) ji's tenure and we are seeing this in the last nine years. Due to a stable government, the confidence of the world in India has increased," he said.

The PM said that the states ruled by the opposition governments do not allow central schemes to be implemented, and if implemented, they are not allowed to gather pace.

Modi was confident of the BJP-led NDA alliance securing more than 50 per cent vote share in the 2024 Lok Sabha&nbsp;polls.

“NDA had about 38 per cent vote share in 2014, and 45 per cent in 2019. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, NDA’s vote share will be over 50 per cent because of its allies who are working hard,” he said.

“The BJP is the only party that, since it came into existence, has pursued issues ideologically — be it the Ram Temple or Article 370, we have always stood for a strong nation. We were for nuclear tests and Atalji (Bihari Vajpayee) went ahead with them… We have been consistent. And it’s an ideological journey… Some people understand us today, some tomorrow. If not today, we will get them after five or 10 years,” Nadda said.

He added that 38 parties under the NDA umbrella will be&nbsp;meeting on Tuesday (July 18), with the talks&nbsp;scheduled to start just after 4 pm when the opposition wraps up its meeting in Bengaluru.&nbsp;

Notably, on Tuesday, the opposition will be assembling for the second day at a five-star hotel in Bengaluru where proceedings were kicked off with a grand dinner meeting late Monday night. Ahead of the meeting,&nbsp;Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said “well begun is half done” and sounded optimistic that the parties will finally pull through.&nbsp;

The likes of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin among others were present during the dinner - sending a message to the saffron party.&nbsp;

As for the agenda of the meeting, the opposition camp said it was&nbsp;here to 'save democracy' in the country.&nbsp;

"We are not here to come to power, we are here to save the world's biggest democracy.&nbsp;&nbsp;We will decide in this meeting what will be the future course of action," read a statement released.&nbsp;

"Democratic institutions, constitutional values and institutions are being subverted and subjugated in a dangerously premeditated manner, with democratically elected opposition governments in one state after another being toppled by the BJP, using money, intimidation and blatant misuse of constitutional bodies and functionaries," he said.

"Horse trading to topple democratically elected governments has become the normal. What is more deplorable is that, at a time when the entire country is reeling under the Covid-19 pandemic, floods and severe economic and financial difficulties, the BJP is going all out to unsettle elected governments - in the process derailing governance and preparedness to handle COVID and other pressing issues," he also alleged.

In this context, the Congress party has decided to launch nationwide protests in front of different Raj Bhavans against these "anti-democratic and anti-constitutional actions" perpetrated by the BJP, he said.

The BJP will hold "virtual rallies" across the country and organise over 1,000 conferences online as it readies to celebrate the first anniversary of the Modi government's second term whose "historic achievements", the party said, will be written in golden letters.

In a communication to state units and other senior office-bearers, BJP general secretary Arun Singh said all big state units will hold at least two virtual rallies and smaller units will hold one, adding that more than 750 people should attend each of these programmes.

There will also be 1,000 conferences using the internet, he said.

Due to the coronavirus lockdown and ban on political meeting, the BJP is turning to technology for holding the events to mark the first anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's second term.

It had taken office on May 30 last year.

The year has been full of "historic achievements", the party said in the communication, listing nullification of Article 370, which had given the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir special powers, and the law against triple talaq among its successes.

The path to the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya has also been cleared, it said.

"All these achievements will be written in golden letters in history," it said.

The party described Prime Minister Modi as the world's "most popular leader" and said his government in the first year has fulfilled people's decades-long aspirations and dreams.

The events organised by the party to mark the day will begin on May 30 and may continue for a month, sources said.

Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Monday said that the party has accepted the public mandate and there is no need to be disheartened even as BJP is set to sweep the Karnataka bypolls.&nbsp;

Karnataka bypolls results: Congress accepts defeat after BJP takes early lead in 12 seats

The bypolls were necessitated to fill the vacancies caused by the disqualification of 17 rebel Congress and JD(S) MLAs, whose revolt led to the collapse of the HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in July and paved the way for BJP to come to power. Twelve of the 15 seats were held by the Congress and three by JD(S). Bypolls were not held in two seats due to pending litigations in High Court. The outcome of the bypoll, which recorded 67.91% polling, is crucial for BJP, which needs to win at least six seats to remain in the majority. As of now, the BJP has 105 MLAs (including an independent), the Congress 66 and the JD(S) 34. Besides, there is one BSP member, a nominated MLA and the Speaker. All arrangements, including security, have been made for the counting of votes. With Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray taking oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have sharpened their attacks on their past ally in the NDA.

With several leaders including cabinet ministers and spokespersons coming out openly against the former ally, it is now likely that the attacks on the Maharashtra alliance will intensify in the coming days. The BJP is seemingly upset with the fact that it lost out on forming a government in the state despite being the largest political party with 105 MLAs in the 288 member state Assembly.

Speaking to ANI, cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Giriraj Singh targeted the Shiv Sena for its alleged attempts at getting a secular certification from the Congress, while at the same time deserting the NDA alliance."There are two people who give a certificate of secularism in this country. One is Congress and second is one who can abuse Hindus. Those who want the certificate should do the same," Singh said while alleging that Shiv Sena was desperate to seek validation from the Congress in its lust for power.

The minister also claimed that he had not compared the party with the Mughals in his tweets. "All I have said is that in lust for power, princely states and kings joined hands with Mughals. Mughal expanded in India through some princely states. Likewise, the Maharashtra government was formed with Congress," he clarified.

Further targeting the Shiv Sena, Singh said, "How can he (Uddhav Thackeray) get upset when asked about secularism. It is running on all TV channels. Definition of secular came here in 1976 but in Sanatan dharma, it has been there for ages. Secularism is in our DNA.''

The party is seemingly peeved at the attempt by the new Maharashtra alliance that had led to the removal of Devendra Fadnavis government, within days of BJP leaders taking oath as Maharashtra CM for a second time.

The BJP is seemingly upset with the fact that it lost out on forming a government in the state despite being the largest political party with 105 MLAs in the 288 member state Assembly. Speaking to ANI, cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Giriraj Singh targeted the Shiv Sena for its alleged attempts at getting a secular certification from the Congress, while at the same time deserting the NDA alliance."There are two people who give a certificate of secularism in this country. One is Congress and second is one who can abuse Hindus. Those who want the certificate should do the same," Singh said while alleging that Shiv Sena was desperate to seek validation from the Congress in its lust for power.
