<p>The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked state cricket associations and BCCI<b>&nbsp;</b>office-bearers to give their suggestions on the draft constitution for the apex cricket body, to be approved by it.</p>

<p>A Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra also disposed of a contempt petition filed by Cricket Association of Bihar against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials for not implementing its earlier order allowing Bihar to play national level cricket tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy matches.</p>

<p>The Bench, which also comprised Justices A.M. Khanwilakr and D.Y. Chandrachud, considered the submissions of the BCCI, Committee of Administrators (COA) and senior advocate Gopal Subramanium, who is assisting as amicus curiae, that Bihar would take part in national-level tournaments in the cricketing season commencing from September.</p>

<p>The Bench said a draft constitution would be approved by it, which would be binding on the BCCI. However, it clarified that its order on petitions seeking recall of the 2016 verdict would deal with the validity of the draft constitution.</p>

<p>It asked State cricket bodies and BCCI office-bearers to give their suggestions with regard to the draft constitution to the amicus curiae before May 11, the next date of hearing.</p>

<p>The Bench also directed Maharashtra Cricket Association, represented by Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, to postpone its tomorrow’s election till the next date.</p>

<p>The COA had in October last year filed a draft constitution of the BCCI incorporating suggestions of the Justice R M Lodha panel on reforms in the cash-rich cricket body.</p>

<p>The top court had said the draft constitution should include the suggestions of the Lodha committee in its entirety so that a holistic document can be placed before it for a final decision. It had approved the Lodha panel’s recommendations like ‘one state, one vote’, ‘one member, one post’ and fixing a 70-year age-cap on those occupying BCCI posts.</p>

<p>The Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) had on April 20 this year moved the apex court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against some office-bearers of BCCI for not complying with its order allowing Bihar to participate in Ranji Trophy and other national championships.</p>

<p>The CAB, in its plea, had alleged that the BCCI had neither invited any cricket association to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, nor allowed any cricket association from Bihar to participate in the tournament held in February.</p>

<p>The 36-year-old all-rounder added that he has been playing for the country for nearly two decades and will have to retire someday.</p>

<p>"We are looking ahead to first qualify in the last four and I think we have got a great team this year. We have got a very powerful batting attack, smart bowling attack, and hopefully we look to qualify and then see if we can win the finals," he said.</p>

<p>The batsman was all praises for his teammate and star batsman Chris Gayle, who recently scored a century against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 19. He also added that their main competition this season is Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).</p>

<p>"Oh, I am loving it. Chris has always been a friend off the field. He has been a great batsman, probably one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world and performing like a boss on the field. I am really happy for him and the way he is batting," he said.</p>

<p>"T20 cricket is unpredictable. Anybody can win on any day. But Chennai has always been a very consistent team and KKR has been playing really well. I think these are two really good teams in the IPL," he concluded.</p>

<p>The current valuation is already 15 per cent more than Star TV's erstwhile record bid of Rs 3851 crore ($750 million then) in 2012.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The GCR comprises worldwide TV broadcast rights as well as digital rights for 102 matches (across three formats) that India will play at home in the next five years.</p>

<p>The first top GCR bid was Rs 4176 crore followed by 25 crore incremental bids. Some of the top bids were Rs 4201.20 crore, Rs 4244 crore, Rs 4303 crore and Rs 4328.25 crore.</p>

<p>On April 2, 2011, MS Dhoni-led 'Men in Blue' ended a&nbsp;twenty-eight year drought and clinched the most awaited ICC World Cup trophy by defeating Sri Lanka in the finals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.</p>

<p>The turf war in the BCCI got uglier as Committee of Administrators (CoA), headed by Vinod Rai, today cleared new Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) chief Ajit Singh's appointment despite acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary refusing to sign the contract letter.</p>

<p>Chaudhary's proposal to give General Manager (Administration) Prof Ratnakar Shetty extension was also turned down by the SC-appointed two-member committee today.</p>

<p>It is learnt that CoA waited for the acting secretary Amitabh to sign Singh's appointment letter but he refused to sign. With former Delhi top cop Neeraj Kumar's tenure ending on March 31, the CoA were forced to clear the appointment of Singh for the new financial year.</p>

<p>Kumar will however assist him for two months during IPL for smooth transition.</p>

<p>The CoA in a directive issued for the office-bearers on March 15, had categorically stated that any appointments not cleared by the secretary within five working days, will then be cleared by the Vinod Rai-led committee.</p>

<p>When secretary Chaudhary was contacted, he confirmed to PTI that the appointment of Singh has indeed been cleared without his consent.</p>

<p>"I have seen the media release. I am filing a reply to CoA," Chaudhary told PTI.</p>

<p>The CoA along with CEO Rahul Johri has been at loggerheads with the three principal office-bearers: acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Chaudhary and treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhry.</p>

<p>"The secretary was sitting on the appointment letter for days despite CoA's diktat. They had no option but to clear the appointment," a BCCI official close to the CoA faction said.</p>

<p>In fact, Chaudhary was peeved because Professor Shetty's extension was shot down.</p>

<p>"Today is the last day of the month. The recommendation for extending Prof Shetty's tenure by three months, in keeping with BCCI's requirements as well as the thoughts recorded in the CoA meeting dated 12 December 2017, were made in the morning of March 28. However, no response has been received either from the CoA or the CEO," Chaudhary wrote a letter to CoA, a copy of which is in possession of PTI.</p>

<p>"This is an unforseen situation where the three elected office bearers have unanimously supported a cause and the same has been blocked. In other words, the General Body itself has been blocked. The Constitution of BCCI in force can aptly deal with this situation," he further wrote.</p>

<p>"Amitabh was not wrong in seeking Professor Shetty's extension as his experience in dealing with administrative affairs of women's cricket and anti-doping measures were important. Since Indian women will be playing continuously for the next few months, Professor Shetty was required. It's not a correct thing to do," an angry office-bearer from the anti-CoA faction said.</p>

CoA clears ACU chief appointment without secretary's consent

<p>As many as 18 players donned the Mumbai Indians jersey in 2017 season, however, only six of those have made it to the MI team in 2018.&nbsp</p>

<p>Yet again, the Nita Ambani-owned franchise will be entering the stadium this year with its core team, unfortunately, losing out on some key players though.&nbsp</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India has removed Steve Smith and David Warner from the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League and said that the franchises, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, will get the replacements.</p>

<p>In the recent media interaction, IPL Commissioner Rajiv Shukla, said, "The franchises will get replacements for the players as they (David Warner and Steve Smith) will not be allowed to play this year." In an official statement, BCCI said it had decided to ban Smith and Warner with immediate effect from participation in IPL 2018.</p>

<p>"The BCCI hopes that the cricketers participating in the IPL hold the highest regard for the spirit of Cricket and code of conduct for players and match officials," the statement said.</p>

<p>"The concerned IPL franchises will be allowed replacement players," it said. Earlier, both the players David Warner and Steve Smith had stepped down from the captainship of their respective IPL teams, as both were retained by their franchises and were supposed to lead the team.</p>

<p>Also, One-year bans have been handed out to Steve Smith and David Warner in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.</p>

<p>Cameron Bancroft, the reports added, will be handed a nine-month ban.</p>

BCCI gives clean chit to Mohammed Shami on match-fixing

<p>Several eyebrows were raised from different quarters when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced Dinesh Karthik as its new skipper, replacing Gautam Gambhir, for the XIth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).</p>

<p>However, his splendid knock in recently concluded Nidahas Trophy, which took India to an impossible victory, has ended all the speculations being raised on his batting ability.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His brilliant cameo of 29 runs off just 8 balls stole all the limelight as he hit a last-ball six to power India to a four-wicket win.</p>

<p>But in IPL, it will be Karthik&#39;s consistency to score runs and cricketing experience which KKR will be counting on.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two-time champions will be entering the upcoming edition with lightest squad of only 19 players making their way into the franchise.</p>

<p>Nagarkoti and Mavi impressed with their speeds in the ongoing U-19 World Cup and were bought by KKR for Rs 3.6 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from the two speedsters, KKR also bought U-19 top-order batsman Shubman Gill who scored three fifties in four matches at the U-19 World Cup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The franchise spent Rs 1.8 crore to buy his services for the upcoming season.</p>

<p>After Narine, KKR also retained Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav via Right-to-Match which will further add to their spin bowling arsenal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another smart buy of KKR was batsman Chris Lynn. The Australian explosive was bought for Rs 9.6 crore and he can be a one-man army for the side.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jamaican first-class cricketer Andre Russell will also remain Karthik&rsquo;s go-to option in this edition of the cash-rich tournament.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the one gap which KKR failed to fill is of having any leadership figure in the squad. After Gambhir&rsquo;s departure, KKR should have looked for a player who can help the side get stability during crucial stages.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dinesh Karthik current form is a positive development for the side but it will be interesting to see him perform the role of captain.&nbsp;<br />

Another loose area in the team is of having only 19 players in the squad, and with a long tournament in hand, a weak bench strength might cause troubles for them.&nbsp;</p>

India's victory shows 'strength of domestic cricket': BCCI Acting President

<p>The Kolkata Police on Monday claimed that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that cricketer Mohammed Shami stayed in Dubai last month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last weekend, Police sought Shami&#39;s itinerary details from India&#39;s tour of South Africa from the Indian cricket board to check if he had gone to Dubai as claimed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.</p>

<p>Police wanted to find out whether he was on the same flight with the other players or was on a different one after they left South Africa. &nbsp;They also wanted to know whether Shami went there officially with the entire team or had taken the detour at his own expense.</p>

<p>Hasin Jahan, in her complaint, had alleged that Shami had gone to Dubai to meet with a Pakistani model, Alishba, with whom he also shared a room at a five-star hotel.</p>

<p>Hasin had released a recording of an alleged phone call with Shami where the mail voice (apparently Shami&#39;s according to Hasin), is heard saying he met Alishba in Dubai to collect money sent by one Mohammad bhai.</p>

<p>But Alishba now claims she met Shami in Dubai but only by coincidence.</p>
