<p>This will make Mahesh the second Telugu actor to get his own wax statue. The first was Prabhas who got his own statue post the worldwide success of <em>Baahubali </em>franchise as the Indian film broke all previous records.&nbsp;</p>

SS Rajamouli takes Baahubali to Pakistan

<p>Baahubali star Rana Daggubati has lent his voice to the character of Thanos for the Telugu version of Hollywood film <em>Avengers: Infinity War</em>.<br />

Marvel Studios` <em>Avengers: Infinity War</em>, which features an ensemble of superheroes, will release worldwide on April 27.<br />
<br />
Disney India, in a move to expand its reach in the country, has signed on Rana to lend his voice for the villainous character.<br />
<br />
"I`ve grown up reading Marvel Comics and Marvel movies with their intricately woven storylines. It is fascinating to see how Marvel has created characters and stories that resonate so well with audiences across the globe, making movies at a scale that one had never before imagined," Rana said in a statement.<br />
<br />
"Characters such as Iron Man and Captain America have been my favourites. So dubbing for <em>Avengers: Infinity War</em>&nbspwas thrilling. Voicing for Thanos, a villain so powerful that some of the biggest superheroes have a tough time dealing with, was an exciting experience," added the actor, who has finished dubbing for the movie.</p>

<p>"This year marks a milestone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it turns 10 and to add to the excitement, we are releasing <em>Avengers: Infinity War</em>&nbsp- the biggest superhero crossover one has ever seen," said Bikram Duggal, Executive Director and Head, Studio Entertainment, Disney India.<br />

Duggal added, "We are offering our fans in South India an opportunity to experience the grandeur of the movie in a language that they prefer".<br />

Disney India, in a move to expand its reach in the country, has signed on Rana to lend his voice for the villainous character. "I`ve grown up reading Marvel Comics and Marvel movies with their intricately woven storylines. It is fascinating to see how Marvel has created characters and stories that resonate so well with audiences across the globe, making movies at a scale that one had never before imagined," Rana said in a statement. "Characters such as Iron Man and Captain America have been my favourites. So dubbing for Avengers: Infinity War&nbspwas thrilling. Voicing for Thanos, a villain so powerful that some of the biggest superheroes have a tough time dealing with, was an exciting experience," added the actor, who has finished dubbing for the movie. "This year marks a milestone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it turns 10 and to add to the excitement, we are releasing Avengers: Infinity War - the biggest superhero crossover one has ever seen," said Bikram Duggal, Executive Director and Head, Studio Entertainment, Disney India. Duggal added, "We are offering our fans in South India an opportunity to experience the grandeur of the movie in a language that they prefer". "With Rana Daggubati coming on board as the voice of Thanos, we are confident of reaching out to a wider audience base while retaining the magnitude and staying true to the ethos of the Marvel brand," Duggal said. Earlier, Disney India adopted a similar strategy for The Jungle Book&nbspin 2016, signing on Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan, Nana Patekar, late Om Puri and Shefali Shah, to bring to life the characters in the Hindi version of the film. It was followed by roping in actor Varun Dhawan for Captain America in the movie Captain America Civil War. Avengers: Infinity War&nbspis directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and produced by Kevin Feige. The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Josh Brolin, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch amongst others. <p>The media would like us to believe that Baahubali 2 and Dangal are neck-to-neck in a race for the top spot at the box office. Stories of Baahubali 2 beating Dangal proved to be premature and the latter&rsquo;s success in China indicates that the bets are still open.</p>

<p>Being the products of two very different film industries, and having been released months apart from each other, these films are not competing with each other on any level. On the contrary, both are parts of the same unfolding story of Indian entertainment industries&rsquo; survival strategies in the present time. An important element of the story is the search for new markets. The success of both films suggests that dubbing is an important strategy for expanding beyond domestic markets.</p>

<p>Dubbing films into other languages is a well-established practice in India in general and South India in particular. Paidipaala, one of the leading authorities in the Telugu cinema industry, points out that roughly 2300 films dubbed from other languages were released in Telugu alone till 2010. This figure accounts for close to one-third of the total number of films released in that language. He also notes that the practice of dubbing films from one Indian language into another dates back to the 1930s. Therefore, one can say that dubbed films are almost as old as the talkie itself in India.</p>

<p>Till the 1990s, much of the dubbing traffic in the industry was among the four major south Indian languages, namely, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Dubbing into and from Hindi was rare. The success of the Hindi dubbed version of Roja, directed by Mani Ratnam in 1992, secured national recognition for the film&rsquo;s director. This situation, however, changed with the release of Jurassic Park (1993) in India in 1994. Film researcher Nitin Govil points out in his book, <em>Orienting Hollywood: A Century of Film Culture Between Los Angeles and Bombay,</em>&nbsp;that Jurassic Park was released in India&nbsp;with 110 prints&mdash;an impressive number for those days. Of these, 82 prints were in Indian languages.</p>

Much of the credit for the replication of Hollywood&rsquo;s strategy goes to Rajnikanth, whose 2007 Tamil film Sivaji did so well in the original Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions that a Hindi version was released in 2010. Needless to add, that version too did well at the box office. S. Shankar, the director of Sivaji, teamed up with Rajnikanth to make Enthiran, which was simultaneously released in Tamil and Telugu and Hindi as well.</p>

<p>Enthiran, or Robot&mdash;the Hindi dubbed version, was a game changer: it was perhaps the first film released after the 1950s to have competed at the box office with the top-line productions of different languages across the country. In Karnataka, where there is an unofficial ban on dubbing into Kannada, all three versions of the film were released. It is not difficult to see how much the two Baahubali films owe to the pioneering efforts of the Rajnikant-Shankar duo. Indeed, productions on the scale of Baahubali could not&nbsp;have been attempted if it wasn&rsquo;t for the possibility of tapping into markets that are opened up by dubbing.</p>

However, its focus was largely on overseas viewers, and justifiably so because they usually pay a much higher price per ticket. Dubbing technology gives Baahubali the global market

But how does the earnings from&nbsp;<em>Baahubali 2 </em>compare to the top grossing films from other non-English&nbsp;language movies?</p>

<p>Mahabharata is the world&rsquo;s largest written poem ever with about 1.8 million words in total. Dated between 8th and 9th centuries, the book follows the story of two paternal cousins who battle for the ancestral kingdom of Bharata, according to Wikipedia. The movie based on the story will tell its story through the eyes of the brothers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement, B.R. Shetty said, &ldquo;The &#39;Mahabharata&#39; is an epic of all epics. I believe that this film will not only set global benchmarks but also reposition India and its prowess in mythological storytelling. I am confident that this film will be adapted in over 100 languages and reach over 3 billion people across the world.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The film &lsquo;Randamoozham&rsquo; will be an adaptation of the novel of the same name by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, an award-winning Malayalam author. Nair is also the scriptwriter for the film.&nbsp;<br />
