<p>Tsongmo, a well-known tourist spot in Sikkim, close to Nathula Pass&nbsp;has been hit by a major avalanche on Tuesday. According to&nbsp;PTI, seven&nbsp;people, including a child have&nbsp;died as a result of the natural disaster.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"By 3 PM, 14 persons were rescued and taken to nearby Army medical facility. However, seven persons succumbed. The other seven persons were administered first aid and returned to Gangtok," said the Army.</p>

<p>As per&nbsp;an Army statement, it is estimated that five to six vehicles and 20 to 30&nbsp;visitors who were travelling to Nathu La got stuck in the snow.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least 150 visitors were in the region when the avalanche occurred at 12:15 pm on the 15th Mile of the Jawaharlal Nehru Road between Gangtok and Nathu La.&nbsp;</p>

The dead body of a labourer was recovered after a rescue operation by the Indian army and local administration.&nbsp;The avalanche hit the area early morning on Thursday after which a rescue operation was launched, the operation still continues as one person is still missing in the area.<br />

The body of the labourer working with the Zojila tunnel project was recovered under snow in the Sarbal area of Sonamarg hours after the avalanche hit the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We were earlier told that there was no one in the area when the avalanche hit, but at around 2pm (local time), we were told that two missing people are missing in the area. We started the rescue operation and recovered a body of a labourer identified as Sandeep Kumar. There is one more person missing identified as Pal Krishan. The rescue operation is on by Indian Army and administration. All other labourers are safe," said ADC Ganderbal, Jammu Kashmir government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir government has kept medical teams on standby in the area as the search for another person still continues. Notably, two avalanches were reported in the Hangh and Sarbal areas of Ganderbal district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among the 26 bodies recovered were trainee mountaineers and two were instructors, said the NIM. The statement added, that 15 bodies were covered on Thursday and seven on Friday. According to&nbsp;District Magistrate (DM) Abhishek Ruhella, four bodies were brought to Matli but were taken to&nbsp;Harsil helipad due to bad weather and subsequently sent to&nbsp;Uttarkashi in ambulances.<br />

The trainee mountaineers are from Nehru Mountaineering Institute in Uttarkashi. The institute has confirmed that four of the trapped mountaineers have died.</p>

<p>According to a release by the NIM, 41 people including 34 trainees and 7 mountaineering instructors were hit by the avalanche.The institute said that the as per the training schedule, the climbers moved to the mountain on September 23 after the revision of rock-climbing training at NIM and Tekhla rock climbing training area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The Rescue work is in progress as of now four bodies have been recovered. SDRF, NDRF and Indian Air Force are helping in the rescue," said the release.</p>

<p>Eight of the trapped mountaineers have been rescued and have been taken to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Hospital for treatment.</p>

<p>"Eight mountaineers were immediately rescued by the team. However, there has been no clarity on deaths," Vivek Pandey, ITBP`s PRO told ANI, adding that the group was on a mission to reach Draupadi`s Danda-2 mountain peak, located at 18,000 feet when an avalanche at around 8 am on Tuesday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ITBP, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force along with local police started the rescue operation as soon as they received the information about the incident.</p>

<p>"All injured and stranded persons will be taken to a helipad at almost 13,000 ft first, and then they will be brought down to Matli helipad. Will be using ITBP hospital," Pandey added.</p>

<p>He said that more updates were awaited and added that no mountaineer from the group was reported missing.</p>

<p>Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took to Twitter and said that 'rapid relief and rescue operations' were being carried out.</p>

<p>"Rapid relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP personnel along with the team of NIM to rescue the trainees trapped in the avalanche in Draupadi`s Danda-2 mountain peak at the earliest," said Taking Uttarakhand Cief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in a tweet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>CM Dhami said that he has spoken to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and requested for help from the army to speed up the rescue operation.</p>

<p>"He has assured us to give every possible help from the Centre. A rescue operation is being conducted to bring out everyone," Dhami said.</p>

They managed to live, though, by building a snow cave and chomping off muesli bars until help arrived.</p>

<p>According to local media reports, the climbers, whose identity has not been provided, had spent three nights camping and climbing in the area over the weekend before the weather deteriorated on Monday.</p>

<p>After waking up on Tuesday morning, both found their tent almost buried by snow. Then they decided to walk out, but before crossing an area through a small gully, they unknowingly triggered a substantial class two avalanche—large enough to bury a person, according to officials.</p>

<p>The avalanche was reportedly about 70m across and carried them about 20m down south, and partially buried them.</p>

<p>After digging themselves out of it, both contacted the police. They attempted rescue twice,&nbsp;but blizzard conditions made it impossible for the cops to reach them via helicopter.</p>

<p>As the conditions were not conducive, both headed back to their camp the night before. But instead of erecting the wet tent, they dug out a snow cave under a huge rock and hunkered down.</p>

<p>Wakatipu Alpine Cliff Rescue team co-ordinator Russ Tilsley said they had plenty of food with about 15 muesli bars, which helped them to brave the chill.</p>

<p>“It was incredibly fortunate the men had been on the edge of the avalanche when it was triggered,” Tilsley was quoted as saying by The Guardian.</p>

<p>“They were lucky they were there and not 50 or 100 metres into the flow, because they probably would have been dead,” he added.</p>

<p>A group of people while on a guided tour of Kyrgyzstan's mountains had a very lucky escape. The group of ten, which had nine Britons and one American escaped an avalanche and they have the footage to prove it. The incident took place in the wildly beautiful Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan. Harry Shimmin, one of the people on the lucky trekking group has uploaded a video of the whole incident on Instagram, in which their narrow escape from death. The video has left people flabbergasted, with its intensity, and in just a few hours it has already gained more than 3,45,000 views and 37.5 thousand likes.</p>

<p>Taking to Instagram, Shimmin writes an account of the incident. He wrote, that as the group was venturing onto the mountain slopes Shimmin had "separated from the group to take pictures on top of a hill/cliff edge," when he heard “the sound of deep ice cracking behind me”.</p>

<p>He then proceeded to hide behind a rock for shelter, but even there, protected from the avalanche, he was scared. Describing the jarring moment he writes:&nbsp;"When the snow started coming over and it got dark / harder to breath, I was bricking it and thought I might die."</p>

<p>Thankfully the whole group survived. One of the group members had "cut her knee quite badly", while another had some bruising from falling off of a horse. But other than that, the group survived the harrowing incident almost unscathed.</p>

<p>"The whole group was laughing and crying, happy to be alive (including the girl who cut her knee). It was only later we realised just how lucky we’d been. If we had walked 5 minutes further on our trek, we would all be dead."</p>

<p>On February 6, the army personnel from the 19 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles were trapped after the avalanche hit the Kameng Sector.&nbsp;The personnel were part of a patrol team.</p>

<p>The area, located at an altitude of 14,500 feet had been witnessing inclement weather with heavy snowfall for the past few days.</p>

<p>Search and rescue operations, including airlifting specialised teams, had been launched immediately after the avalanche struck the Mummy Head area in the Tawang district where the soldiers were patrolling in sub-zero conditions.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, all seven have been confirmed dead, the army said in the statement.</p>

<p>"The area, located at an altitude of 14,500 feet, had been witnessing inclement weather with heavy snowfall since the last few days. The bodies of the soldiers are currently being transferred from the avalanche site to the nearest army medical facility for further formalities," the army said.</p>

<p>President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered their condolences to the bereaved families.</p>

<p>A part of a three-member team, the 52-year-old climber was trying to summit the peak, which is in the Karakoram Range.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Haidri said, “We are waiting for more details to come in. His climbing partners, Stephan Keck from Austria and Jordi Tosas of Spain, are reportedly safe.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pakistan Army helicopters rescued the climbers and shifted them to Skardu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ACP secretary said, the trio, like other expeditions, were looking to take advantage of the clear weather as several summit teams had gone up to Camp I and Camp II.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rick Allen was a respected veteran and a highly experienced alpine style climber. Allen and his climbing partner Sandy Allan came into prominence in 2012. They made the first complete ascent of Nanga Parbat’s Mazeno Ridge and earned a Piolet d’Or, said Haidri. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Not just this, he, Adam Bielecki and Felix Berg attempted to find a new route on Annapurna in 2017. &nbsp;</p>
