The winner of the men's and women's singles will earn a whopping&nbsp;USD 2,975,000 whereas the runner-up will receive USD 1,625,000. For making it to&nbsp;the opening round, a player will get USD 106,250, meanwhile, a&nbsp;player&nbsp;entering&nbsp;the final round of qualifying will be able to take home USD 55,150.

The men's and women's doubles winners will get&nbsp;USD 695,000 while the mixed doubles champions will be able to return with&nbsp;USD 157,750.

Novak Djokovic will begin his bid for a 10th Australian Open title at the Adelaide International, organisers said Wednesday, after the Serbian was granted a visa to enter the country.

The world number five missed the opening Grand Slam of 2022 when he was deported over his vaccine status after a high-stakes legal battle.

Australia has since lifted the requirement for visitors to show proof of Covid vaccination, and his three-year ban was overturned by the government in November. 
Djokovic said at the time it was "a relief".

"The Australian Open has been my most successful Grand Slam," he added. "I made some of the best memories there."&nbsp;

Four of the world's top 10 women will begin the year in Adelaide, with second-ranked Ons Jabeur, world number five Aryna Sabalenka, world number eight Daria Kasatkina and world number nine Veronika Kudermetova all entered.

The field also includes two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka, 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and Grand Slam winners Bianca Andreescu and Jelena Ostapenko.

"We are thrilled to confirm such a world-class lineup for week one of the Adelaide International," tournament director Alistair MacDonald said in announcing the lineup for the ATP-WTA event.

The Australian Open takes place at Melbourne Park from January 16-29.

Suffering from a throat infection, star Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has withdrawn from the upcoming Australian Open Super 300 badminton tournament. The 21-year-old from Almora picked up the infection just before the Hylo Open, where he lost in the opening round to Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus in Saarbrucken, Germany. The Australian Open is scheduled to be held from November 15 to 20 in Sydney.

"I had fever, throat pain and weakness after I reached Saarbrucken ahead of Hylo Open. I probably picked the infection while travelling from Paris," Sen, who has returned to India, told PTI on Sunday. "I thought it is not that serious. I was training last Sunday and then on Monday, I felt it had aggravated. I consulted doctor online and took medicine. It is under control now. But given the situation, I have decided to pull out of the Australian Open." The Commonwealth Games champion said the fact that he has no chance of qualifying for the World Tour Final also played a role in his decision of withdrawing from the tournament.

"I had sent my entries earlier as I thought it would help me to qualify for World Tour Finals but now it is not possible anymore, so it is better that I take some weeks off, get back to full fitness and start with my off-season training to be ready for the next season." The last few months have been tough for Sen, who underwent a surgery just after the World Championship for 'deviated septum', a condition which occurs when the thin wall (nasal septum) between the nasal passages is displaced to one side. "I had these conditions for the last few years. I couldn't breathe properly on both sides of my nose. One side was completely blocked. Sen, the All-England silver medallist, said this was the only window as the Paris Olympics qualification will start next year. "It took 3 to 4 weeks to recover completely. But my immunity was down. The surgery went on very well. But I couldn't play at my 100 per cent all the time," the current world number eight said. "I started playing just two weeks before leaving for Europe tour. Since my qualification for world tour final was on the line, and doctor had also given a green signal, I thought let me play." 
So what is his plan now?

"I plan to spend time with my family, get better and then train for next season. I will probably play PBL," said the India Open champion. "What we're saying at this point is that Novak and the federal government need to work out the situation. And then we'll follow any instructions after that," said Tiley. "I did spend some time with Novak at the Laver Cup. We spoke generally. No comment was immediately available from Djokovic. Australia's Home Affairs ministry reiterated that it does not comment on individual cases.

"Per the Grand Slam Rule Book, all eligible players are automatically entered into the men's and women's singles main draw fields based on ranking 42 days prior to the first Monday of the event," said a statement by the United States Tennis Association. "The US Open does not have a vaccination mandate in place for players, but it will respect the U.S. government's position regarding travel into the country for unvaccinated non-U.S. citizens," it further asserted.

At the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, and the US Open, the 10-point tiebreak will be played in lieu of the final set for Mixed Doubles, Junior doubles and Wheelchair doubles.

As years progressed, Nadal and Federer were joined by Novak Djokovic as the Big Three continue to rule the roost in tennis to date. Meanwhile, I managed to sustain my interest in sports by donning the&nbsp;journalist's hat in the specific beat.&nbsp;

While tennis took a backseat for me, I continued to keep a tab on Nadal's journey. Often, his sudden first-round exits left me bewildered whereas his injury concerns made me restless. Nonetheless, I slowly made peace with the fact that it isn't&nbsp;easy being Nadal and, probably,&nbsp;tougher remaining his fan.

Djokovic remained in the headlines globally when he was deported from Australia as he was embroiled in controversy ahead of the Australian Open 2022 when his dream for a record 21st Grand Slam title was shattered.&nbsp;

He was denied entry to the country after his visa was cancelled following a legal battle between the athlete and Australian authorities. His stance of not getting the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine has been criticised.&nbsp;

Now, the Indian Wells ATP event organisers said in a statement that valid proof of full vaccination would be required for entry into the venue.&nbsp;

The statement added: "The guidelines for the players are governed by the protocols established by ... the WTA and ATP, as well as any restrictions established by the United States of America in regard to the vaccination status of international travellers entering the country."&nbsp;

Although, he could have trouble even getting into the United States, because foreign air travellers have had to be fully vaccinated since November last year and provide proof before boarding flights, with limited exceptions.&nbsp;

The Indian Wells tournament is scheduled to be held from March 9 to March 20.&nbsp;

The entry list also includes 2022 Australian Open winner Rafael Nadal and top 10 players Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.&nbsp;

Ahead of his match versus Swedish player Elias Ymer, Alsan spilled the beans on the high-voltage Australian Open men's singles final between his compatriot Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Spaniard Rafael Nadal. In a marquee clash at the Melbourne Park, Australia, on Sunday (January 30), Nadal came from behind in a historic fashion to triumph over World No. 2 Medvedev, winning 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.

During the mega finale, Medvedev made heads turn as he wasn't backed enough by the relentless Aussie crowd at Melbourne Park. The Russian did impress with his style of play and composure throughout the course of the tournament Down Under, however, didn't manage to win enough fans. The Russain was pretty vocal of the lack of support during post-match pressers in the tournamment.

To this, Karatsev told Wion Sports' Editor Digvijay Singh Deo in an exclusive chat, "Ofcourse fans love the Big Three. I played against Andy Murray in Sydney (International), all the crowd support was with him. They have done a lot for our sport so it is obvious....It was just a short period of time that he was sad, later he (Medvedev) realised it. Plus, Nadal was coming back from injury, having not played for almost half a year,&nbsp;so fans' support was sure to be with him.."

The 28-year-old Russian player Karatsev, who was knocked out in the third round of Aus Open 2022, has&nbsp; had a rollercoaster ride since turning into a professional in 2011. His breakthrough moment came at the 2021 Aus Open, reaching the semi-finals (where he lost to Novak Djokovic). With this, he became the first player to reach a Grand Slam semi-final on his main draw debut. He has won the ATP Cup and Davis Cup with Russia as well as an Olympic silver medal as the youngster is on course for gaining many more accolades.

Revealing why he opted to feature in India's only ATP Tour Event, where he is top seed, Aslan said, "Basically, I played the tournament in Australia. I played in Sydney and straight away in Aus Open. It is a good opportunity to play here. Here I am top-seed but there are a lot of good players&nbsp;so I've to be ready to compete and be at my best."

Indian tennis great Vijay Amritraj, who has closely watched the progress of Nadal since he started out as a teen prodigy, lauded the Spaniard for his incredible achievement and hailed him as one of the greatest of all time. Amritraj, a former tennis player and a commentator, heaped praise on the Big 3 (Nadal, Djokovic and Federer) for what they have achieved in the last two decades but admitted Nadal deserved to be ahead in the debate for the Greatest of All Time.

"Frankly, it doesn't even matter. All these three guys have been chasing history for quite a while now. And it's incredible that for so many decades we have not had one player to get to so many majors in his career and all of a sudden, in one era we have three guys to have reached 20. It's unimaginable to even think that," Amritraj told WION's Sports editor Digvijay Singh Deo in an exclusive interaction.

"We have three guys who have 20 each and going into this tournament (Australian Open 2022), we had Djokovic coming in there possible as a favourite, had he played. But now, you have Nadal at 21 which is a staggering number to even look at.&nbsp;

"But at the end of the day, is he the greatest of all time now with the sheer numbers along? There has to be a debate but you will have to give it to him, wouldn't you?" - he added.

Medvedev, who started the final on a confident note, clinched the first set comfortably 2-6 and made an amazing comeback from &nbsp;1-4 down to take the second set 6-7(5). It all seemed too easy for the Russian until the fighter inside Nadal arose and pushed him to pull off the unthinkable despite being left with a mountain to climb after losing the first two sets.&nbsp;

Nadal bounced back and managed to clinch the third set 6-4. He then raced to a 4-2 lead in the fourth set before bagging it 6-4 to force the final into a decider. Nadal kept his composure in the final set and despite a tough fight from Medvedev, he won the decider 7-5 to lay his hands on his second Australian Open title which came after a wait of 13 years.

Hailing Nadal as a fighter, who can never be counted out of an important game, Amritraj said he will put Nadal along with the legendary Rod Laver in the category of the greatest of all time. The Indian tennis great stated that the major difference between the Big 3 and others is their resilience and the ability to handle pressure in a five-setter which makes them great champions.

"Nadal is a great fighter, but when I say greatest of all time, I keep Rod Laver in there always because of the two Grand Slams he won (winning four majors in a single year). He did it in 1962 and once again in 1969 so I will always keep Laver up there. Nadal, Federer and Djokovic, I put them all in the same category," said the Indian tennis great.

"Rafa coming from two sets down in the final, he is never out of the match. All these guys, they have all played amazing 5th sets and that's why they are such great champions. To lose two sets and then the way Rafa came back in it, and the way he won the game, it was overwhelming to see. Not just the physical aspect of it but the mental aspect," he added.

He made his debut and might have even won the doubles at the Chennai Open at 16 or 17. We knew at that point that he is going to be a fitness demon and that's what he turned himself into. He works so much harder than any of his opponents and even runs more than any of his opponents during the course of a tournament," said Amritraj.

Not just a 'clay court specialist'

Nandan pointed out how Nadal has moved up the ladder and is not just a clay court specialist. ''If you look at the beginning of his career, you had a guy who used to play 8-10&nbsp;feet behind the baseline. Today, he is coming in so much. He has worked on his volleys, single-hand slice, etc. He's an all-court specialist. Maybe not so great on grass, but certainly good enough to be on hard (court). He is not being defensive anymore.&nbsp;The last three sets&nbsp;was absolutely unbelievable,''&nbsp;he opined.

G.O.A.T?

Is Nadal the Greatest of all-time? In this regard, Nandal Bal said, 'During Rod Laver's (an all-time tennis great) time, three of the majors were on grass (Aus and US Open as well along with Wimbledon). Not only did Rafa Nadal`s staggering comeback victory over Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final earn him a men`s record 21st Grand Slam title it also showed once again the folly of assuming a new order is seizing power in men`s tennis.

When Medvedev ambushed Novak Djokovic`s hopes of reaching 21 and a first men`s calendar-year Slam since 1969 in last year`s U.S. Open final, it felt like a seismic shift with the Russian leading a takeover at the top.

That looked even more likely when the 35-year-old Nadal arrived in Melbourne after almost six months out with a foot injury as the lone rider of the fabled "big three".

Roger Federer was back in Switzerland rehabilitating his injured knee while nine-times Australian Open champion Djokovic was embroiled in a visa row sparked by his decision not to have a COVID-19 vaccine and was eventually be deported.

It left Spaniard Nadal, battle-scarred and having recently tested positive for COVID, to fight off the young vanguard single-handed -- surely a task too much for even the greatest warrior tennis has ever seen.

Djokovic`s self-inflicted exile left Medvedev as the red-hot favourite, and if it wasn`t him to lift his second Grand Slam title, surely one of Olympic champion Alexander Zverev or Stefanos Tsitsipas would step up to make his big breakthrough.

Nadal, seeded six, had never flown so low under the radar leading into a Grand Slam tournament, even if he had won a warm-up event in Melbourne the week before.

Yet the warrior-like instincts kicked in and we were all reminded that Nadal, as long as he is standing, remains a physical and psychological force of nature on a tennis court.

Russian powerhouse Karen Khachanov (25), Canadian Denis Shapovalov (22) and Italian Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini (25) all succumbed as Nadal surged through the draw, before completing the greatest comeback of his career to outlast Medvedev in a five-hour 24 minute epic.

It means Nadal, a few months after doubting whether he would return at all, is now leading the race to end with the most Grand Slam titles, when the assumption had been that Djokovic would be the one to reach uncharted territory.

NEXT TARGET

The French Open will be Nadal`s next target and after his astonishing feats in Melbourne, few would dismiss his chances of adding a 14th title on the Parisian clay -- the surface that has under-pinned his career.

Win that and he would move two clear of Federer and Djokovic and while Grand Slam titles are not the only metric used in a G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) debate many think is frivolous, it would make him difficult to catch.
