According to the FIR (first information report), the patient came to the hospital at around 01:00 pm for treatment. After a few minutes, the patient approached the doctor and asked him to remove the cannula from his arm. When the doctor asked him to seek a nurse's help, the patient became violent and started abusing him. Then, the patient took a screwdriver-like object and threatened to kill the doctor. The doctor suffered injuries on two fingers of his right hand. The FIR does not mention the patient's name. Cases of violence against doctors have been on the rise in India's national capital Delhi. Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital witnessed a similar turn of events in July when a 21-year-old patient, upset with his medical condition, attacked a doctor with a knife. Dr Satnam Chhabra, the neurosurgery department chairman, sustained minor injuries in the attack. He had been treating the patient, Rajkumar, who showed less improvement despite undergoing a surgery two years ago. Later, the hospital staff handed Rajkumar to the police. Romania claims fresh Ukraine attacks 'very close' to border

Russian officials on Thursday (August 31) said that fresh Ukrainian attacks were thwarted by them a day after at least six regions were targeted by Ukrainian drones. One of the drone strikes, which targeted an airfield far from the border of Ukraine, destroyed military transport planes. 
 
Meanwhile, Ukraine's military claimed that its six servicemen were killed in a crash of two helicopters near Bakhmut. In the latest announcements, Russia on the other hand said that two Ukrainian drones were downed by its anti-aircraft units in the southern Bryansk region.

In northern Russia, a military airfield caught massive fire in the city of Pskov where they have garrisoned elite paratroopers. As per TASS news agency, around four Il-76 transport planes suffered damages and two of them had "burst into flames".

President Vladimir Putin was immediately informed in the case as per&nbsp;protocols in such cases of "massive attacks", Peskov said. 
 
The government of Kyiv, in a statement, confirmed that the Russian planes were destroyed in Pskov. "Yes, four IL-76 transport planes were destroyed in Pskov at an airfield, they are beyond repair. Also, several other of those (aircraft) are damaged, but the information is being checked," said Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for the GUR military agency of Ukraine, while speaking to Reuters.

<h2>'Gains made by Ukraine on southern front can open way to Crimea'</h2>

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the recent gains made by Ukrainian troops on the southern front can help in pushing the Russians to the annexed Crimean peninsula. He stated that this became possible after the "strategically important" village of Robotyne was liberated by Kyiv in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Russia claims to have thwarted fresh Ukrainian attacks as drones target airfield

The Russian defence ministry early on Friday (August 4) said that overnight Ukrainian attacks on the naval base in the Crimean peninsula and the Black Sea were thwarted by their forces.<o:p></o:p>

"Tonight, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the use of two unmanned sea boats, attempted an attack on the Novorossiysk naval base of the Russian Armed Forces," said the ministry, on Telegram.<o:p></o:p>

It stated that the naval drones were destroyed by the Russian ships. The terminus of a pipeline, which has been carrying out a maximum of Kazakh oil exports through Russia, has been hosted by the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.<o:p></o:p>

The operator of the fuel artery Caspian Pipeline Consortium said that it has continued the process of shipping oil to moored tankers at the terminal, reported the Russian state media on Friday.<o:p></o:p>

But "a temporary ban has been established on the movement of ships in the port", stated the company, as Interfax news agency quoted it.

A similar attack was repelled earlier this week also. On Friday, the ministry had claimed to have downed 13 drones over the Crimean peninsula. No casualties or damage were reported in either of the attacks, said the ministry.

Russian defence ministry on Sunday claimed that the attacks launched by them on New Year were aimed at the drone production of Ukraine, stating that it has managed to destroy “terror attacks” of Kyiv against Russia.&nbsp;In the assault carried out on New Year's Eve, Moscow launched Iranian-made drones and missiles on Kyiv along with other Ukrainian cities.&nbsp;

In another incident, the newspaper says that the Pakistani forces raided the house of Haji Nisar Sarparra and took away his son Haroon Waleed Sarparra.

"It is pertinent to mention that the Pakistani forces have reportedly apprehended more than ten individuals from the Sarparra family during several raids in Mastung, Nushki and Quetta. All of them remain missing to this day", reported the newspaper.

The arrested people include former soldiers, students and people who have been critical of the Pakistani government and the military. Among the people arrested includes Nazeer Rehmat, the brother of the General Secretary of Baloch Students Organization, Mama Azeem Baloch.

“In the weeks and months following the 9/11 attacks, I was proud to lead an amazing, resilient, united people,” he said, although many Muslim Americans reported facing heightened discrimination in the wake of the attacks. “When it comes to the unity of America, those days seem distant from our own.”

He continued: “Malign force seems at work in our common life that turns every disagreement into an argument, and every argument into a clash of cultures. In Liverpool, during Pride month, hundreds of people joined a protest on June 22, after at least three street attacks on young men within the space of a few weeks.

While speaking with The Guardian, local activists and national campaigners revealed that this spate of attacks across the UK underscores a climate of fear endured by the LGBTQ+ community on the streets.

"In reaction to the assassination of Guerby Geffrard (the police officer killed), his allies concocted this morning's shootings which resulted in the death of 15 peaceful citizens," national police chief Leon Charles told a press conference.

Charles said an investigation into the violence in the capital Port-au-Prince had been opened "to trace all the perpetrators and co-perpetrators of the crimes committed."

Geffrard, the spokesperson for a police union that is in open conflict with the police force, was shot hours before the shooting spree in the same city district.

Prime Minister Claude Joseph's office released a statement expressing his condolences.

"These horrible crimes and these reprehensible actions cannot go unpunished in a democratic society," Joseph said.

Worsening violence

Violence has been sharply on the rise in&nbsp;Haiti&nbsp;this year, with gunfights between rival groups prompting many residents of poor districts of the city to flee their homes.

"We are in a situation where human rights are being denied and life is being trivialized... We cannot continue to count bodies every day," said Ducena.

Journalists also expressed their concerns about the deaths.

"We are dismayed by this murder, which lengthens the list of journalists killed in the past three years," said Jacques Desrosiers, head of the Haitian Journalists Association.

"As they always do, judicial authorities will announce investigations that lead nowhere," said Desrosiers. "We are used to that."

In 2000,&nbsp;Haiti's most prominent journalist, Jean Dominique, was murdered in a case that remains unsolved to this day.

"There was no justice for Jean Dominique, as there will be none for Diego. We are left to fend for ourselves," said Assad Volcy, director of Gazette&nbsp;Haiti, an online news outlet for which Charles worked.

More recently, photojournalist Vladjimir Legagneur went to the now gang-plagued Martissant neighbourhood of the capital on a reporting assignment in 2018 and was never heard from again.

Police have still not published the results of DNA tests performed on a body found a few days after Legagneur vanished.

Probes into the killing of two journalists in 2019 also yielded nothing.

Thousands of residents of Martissant have become refugees in their own city, living in sports centres or temporary accommodation in private homes because of the gang violence.

French energy giant Total on Monday confirmed it is suspending work on a massive $20 billion gas project in northern Mozambique following the latest jihadist assault on a nearby town last month.&nbsp;

Total removed its remaining staff from the Afungi peninsula natural gas site after a jihadist raid in the nearby town of Palma on March 24 left dozens of people dead.&nbsp;

It had already evacuated some workers and suspended construction in January following a series of jihadist attacks nearby..&nbsp;

"In the current environment, Total can no longer operate in the Cabo Delgado province in a safe and efficient manner," a Total spokeswoman told AFP.&nbsp;

"All project personnel have been removed from the site and will not return until conditions allow," the spokeswoman added, saying "it is too early to provide an updated project schedule".&nbsp;

Total also said on Monday that it was declaring a "force majeure" situation beyond its control, a legal concept meaning it can suspend fulfilling contractual obligations.&nbsp;

The declaration "will remain in effect until the Government of Mozambique has restored security and stability in the province... in a verifiable and sustainable manner," the company added -- although it "remains committed to Mozambique and to the development" at Afungi.&nbsp;

A military source told AFP earlier this month that Total evacuated all of its staff after drone surveillance showed insurgents were in areas "very close" to the gas plant.&nbsp;

Last week, the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) said Total had already suspended contracts with a series of businesses indirectly involved in the gas project.&nbsp;

The National Petroleum Institute (INP), a Mozambique government body that governs energy projects, said on Monday that Total "may not fulfil contractual obligations and could suspend or cancel further contracts, depending how long the halt (to construction) lasts."&nbsp;

Nevertheless, "Total hasn't abandoned the project," INP chief Carlos Zacarias told reporters in capital Maputo, adding that "the main contracts between Total and its major contractors remain in force".&nbsp;

Gas-rich Cabo Delgado has been battered by a bloody jihadist insurgency since 2017 by a group known locally as al-Shabab.&nbsp;

The violence has killed at least 2,600 people according to NGO Acled, while Maputo said last week that more than 700,000 have been displaced.&nbsp;

A New York City police officer was shot and wounded in a police station on Sunday morning about 12 hours after another officer was wounded while he sat in his patrol van in the same neighbourhood in what authorities described as an assassination attempt.

A gunman entered the 41st Precinct headquarters in the Bronx borough about 8 a.m. (1300 GMT) and opened fire, wounding one officer before he was taken into custody, a police spokesman said.

The officer was taken to a hospital. New York media reported that the officer was a lieutenant who was shot in the arm.

The attack followed a shooting on Saturday night of a uniformed police officer who was sitting in his police van with his partner.

The officers did not return fire. The wounded officer's partner got in the driver's seat and drove him to the hospital. He is expected to survive, police said.

A police spokesman said authorities are investigating whether the same shooter carried out both attacks. Authorities have not released the names of any of the officers involved.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Twitter that those responsible for the attacks would be brought to justice.
