Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma said the team's approach in T20 cricket has changed from the time they last locked horns with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. India had lost against their arch-rivals at the showpiece event to suffer their first defeat against the Men in Green in a World Cup encounter.

India had never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan before the meeting between the two sides in the UAE last year. India had won all 12 encounters between the two teams in ODI and T20 World Cups. However, Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak with an emphatic ten-wicket win in Dubai last year.

Pakistan produced an excellent effort with the ball to restrict India to a moderate total of 151 runs before captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan combined to chase down the target with ten wickets to spare. The duo slammed half-centuries apiece to take Pakistan home comfortably and secure the country's first win against the Men in Blue in a World Cup game.

Ahead of the meeting between the two sides in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in his team's chances citing the change in their approach.

"Asia Cup is happening after a long time, but we played Pakistan last year in Dubai, where obviously the result did not go our way. But the Asia Cup is different now. The team is playing differently and has prepared differently, so a lot of things have changed from then," said Rohit during a promotional event.

Much has changed for India since their defeat against Pakistan last year. India had failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 following which Virat Kohli stepped down as captain to hand over reign&nbsp;to Rohit. Former head coach Ravi Shastri has also been replaced by the legendary Rahul Dravid at the helm.

Under Rohit's captaincy, India have been phenomenal so far in T20Is and are yet to lose a T20I series having won seven on the trot. The team has also adapted an agressive approach in their batting while the bowling line-up has also undergone some notable changes.

Explaining his strategy for the Asia Cup 2022, Rohit said India won't focus on a single opposition but will be aiming to go the distance as a team. Rohit had led India to a memorable triumph during the last edition of the tournament in 2018 and will be hoping to repeat the feat this year.

"My thought has always been that we will not focus on the opponent, but we will continue to play our game. We played against West Indies, England and in both cases, we did not think about who our opposition was, but we focused on things that we had to do as a team and what we had to achieve," said Rohit.

"Similarly, in the Asia Cup, our focus will be on what to achieve as a team and not think about who we are facing - be it Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka," he added.

"But for us, we need to assess the conditions, keep in mind the fact that we will be playing in 40-plus degrees. We need to assess all those factors and prepare accordingly," he added.

India playing differently since the last time we played against Pakistan: Rohit Sharma ahead of Asia Cup clash

All eyes of the cricketing fraternity is&nbsp;now on the India-Pakistan 2022 Asia Cup clash, which will be held on August 28 in the UAE. Both sides will be meeting each other for the first time since last year's T20 World Cup face-off, where Babar Azam &amp; Co. thrashed India by ten wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

For the unversed, the match will be held at the same venue. India will look to avenge their T20 WC loss versus the Men in Green and will also be bolstered by the return of former skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli wasn't part of India's white-ball tour of West Indies, due to rest, and had an ordinary IPL 2022 campaign followed by a below-par tour of England, where he ended without a single half-century across formats. Hence, Kohli will make heads turn once he walks out on the 22-yard cricket strip versus the Asian giants.

Ahead of the India-Pakistan face-off, Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma shared his 'slight concern' for his pupil. "There is a slight concern that he has not played too many T20 matches. But I am not at all worried because he is preparing very well. He is extremely positive and is coming back refreshed. So it is not a matter of too much concern," Sharma told&nbsp;India News.

Rajkumar also sounded optimistic of Kohli being able to play as per India's new and aggressive&nbsp;batting approach. In this regard, he opined, "He is a big player, he knows how he has to score runs, and at which strike rate he has to bat. The Indian team's template has definitely changed, but everyone has seen Virat's adaptability, he adapts according to the team's requirements and will do so going forward as well."

India will enter the forthcoming Asian championship as the defending champions. They have won the last two editions, including the one held in the shortest format -- for the first time in the tournament history -- in 2016.

Virat Kohli's childhood coach shares 'slight concern' for his pupil ahead of Pakistan clash in Asia Cup

Senior batter Virat Kohli's form is a huge concern for the Indian team ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE. The premier tournament is all set to get underway on August 27 with India locking horns with Pakistan in a marquee clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on August 28.

Kohli, who is currently on a break, will return to action for the Men in Blue in the tournament and will be hoping to bounce back to form. Kohli has endured a lean patch in international cricket for a while now and has&nbsp;not scored a century for the Indian team for almost three years now.

Kohli was last seen in action for the Indian team during their tour of England earlier this year. He had a disastrous run with the willow as the former India skipper flopped across all three formats of the game.

Amid his poor form, Board Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has backed the senior batter to roar back to form. Ganguly urged Kohli to practice more and play more matches while expressing confidence in his abilities.

“Let him practice, let him play matches. He is a big player and has scored plenty of runs. I am hopeful that he will make a comeback. He is just not being able to score a century and I believe he will find his form in the Asia Cup,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.&nbsp;

Kohli has been a prolific run-getter in the Asia Cup over the years, averaging over 60 in the tournament. The former India skipper had missed the last edition of the tournament in 2018 when Rohit Sharma led India to a memorable title triumph after a win over Bangladesh in the final.

India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan and will be hoping to get off to a winning start. The Men in Blue had lost against Pakistan in the last meeting between the two sides at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year and will be hopeful of avenging their defeat this time around.

While the players will undoubtedly be under massive pressure in the high-profile clash, Ganguly believes the much-awaited encounter should be seen as just another game.

"I am seeing it as the Asia Cup. I do do not see any tournament as India vs Pakistan. When I used to be in my playing days, India vs Pakistan was just another match for me. I always looked to win the tournament," said the former India captain.

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the Asia Cup 2022 edition's group stage clash on August 28, in Dubai. Hence, all eyes are on how both Asian sides start their respective campaigns in the showpiece event, which will be held in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for this year's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Ahead of the mega clash, former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh recalled the Indo-Pak 2011 ODI World Cup semi-final match, held in Mohali. Before the marquee fixture, Bhajji received a unique request from Shoaib Akhtar, who was part of the then Shahid Afridi-led Men in Green campaign.

Bhajji narrated the whole episode on Star Sports and said, "When Akhtar met me, he said: 'There's a lot of pressure but not about the match. It's about getting tickets'. He told me that his family was coming from Pakistan and I agreed to arrange a couple of tickets for him. Thereafter, he asked me if I can get him tickets for the next match (final) as well. I asked him 'you're going to Mumbai?' to which he responded 'yes, that's where the final is'."

In reply, the Akhtar-less Pakistan were bundled out for 231 in 49.5 overs to lose by 29 runs.&nbsp;

'You're going to Mumbai?' - Harbhajan recalls his response to Akhtar's request for CWC'11 final tickets

The cricketing fraternity is eagerly waiting for the commencement of the Asia Cup 2022 edition, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. Both India and Pakistan are placed in the same group, and await another team from the qualifiers, as the two Asian giants will lock horns on August 28 before two more possible face-offs, in the Super Four round and the finale.

Ahead of the showpiece event, which will be held after 2018, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt shared his take on whether Rohit Sharma-led India will start as favourites for the Asian championship. The Men in Blue won the last two editions. India had won the 2016 edition, played in the T20I format, and also clinched the 2018 championship which was held in the 50-over format. This time around, the competition will again be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (from October-November in Australia).

Answering a question on his&nbsp;YouTube&nbsp;channel about whether India start as a favourite, Butt stated,&nbsp;"They definitely can." He jokingly&nbsp;added,&nbsp;"Do they lack vitamins?”

“Any of the competing teams can win. Realistically, India have been playing really well. They have a big pool of players, and most of the guys have gained international experience. That’s why people are terming them favorites," Butt further asserted.

“There is Pakistan. Everybody knows that, on their day, they can beat anybody. T20 cricket is such a format where one good partnership can decide the fate of the game. It all depends on the day. Afghanistan are also a dark horse. Bangladesh, sometimes, plays very good cricket, but on other days they are very bad," the ex-Pakistani opener added.

Talking about India's chances, they comprehensively&nbsp;won bilateral series versus New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka before drawing a five-match T20I series versus South Africa -- all in home conditions -- beating&nbsp;England and West Indies in their own backyards since the 2021 T20 World Cup. Is Team India favourites for Asia Cup 2022? Former Pakistan captain shares his take

India are all set to lock horns with Pakistan in a marque clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which gets underway later this month. India have dominated their arch-rivals over the years in the premier competition and will be aiming to continue their&nbsp;stellar run against the Men in Green when they meet in Dubai on August 28.

The last meeting between the arch-rivals saw Babar Azam-led Pakistan thrash India by ten wickets at the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE to bring an end to their 29-year-long wait for their first win in a World Cup encounter against the Men in Blue. Pakistan had lost 12 matches against India in ODI and T20 World Cups before registering their maiden win last year.

Ahead of the high-profile Asia Cup clash between the two cricketing giants, former Pakistan pacer Aaqb Javed has explained why Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will be favourites to win against the Men in Green. Analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams, Javed said India will hold an edge over Pakistan due to their experienced batting line-up.

“The difference between the two teams lies in their batting. India's batting is still more experienced. If a batter like Rohit Sharma clicks, he can single-handedly win the match for India. Similarly with Fakhar Zaman," Javed said on Paktv.tv.

The former Pakistan pacer also pointed out how Babar &amp; Co. still don't have a quality pace bowling all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, who can be the difference between the two teams in the blockbuster clash. Hardik has been in fine form with the bat and ball ever since making his comeback for India earlier this year.

"If he plays with control, he can win the match for Pakistan. But the middle-order line-up of India and Pakistan, that's the difference. Also their all-rounder, that makes a difference. Because Pakistan does not have a Hardik Pandya like all-rounder,” Javed explained.

Former Pakistan pacer explains why India are favourites against Babar Azam & Co. at Asia Cup 2022

India and Pakistan are gearing up to resume their&nbsp;rivalry on the 22-yard cricket strip as both sides will meet each other in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition. The forthcoming edition will be held in the UAE in the shortest format (for the second time in the tournament history) as India and Pakistan will play their respective opening game versus each other, in Dubai, on August 28.

There's a lot of hype regarding the upcoming India-Pakistan clash. Moreover, the upcoming Asia Cup season can see the two Asian giants clash with each other on as many as three occasions. India and Pakistan are very likely to meet in the Super Four round and can also end up locking horns in the summit clash, which will be the first-ever finale featuring both teams in the tournament history.

Ahead of the 2022 Asian championship, let us recall former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir and veteran Pakistan keeper-batter Kamran Akmal's ugly spat during the 2010 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. In a tight contest, in Dambulla, Shahid Afridi-led Men in Green rode on Salman Butt's 74 and Kamran's 51&nbsp;to post&nbsp;267&nbsp;all-out in 49.3 overs.&nbsp;

In reply, Gambhir's 83, then Indian skipper MS Dhoni's 56, Suresh Raina's 27-ball 34 and Harbhajan Singh's 11-ball 15 not out propelled India to a stunning three-wicket win. However, there was a lot of action and drama during India's tense run-chase. At the time of Dhoni-Gambhir's 98-run third-wicket stand, the latter and Kamran got involved in a heated exchange following a caught-behind appeal from the Pakistani stumper. Here's the video:

When Gambhir, Kamran got involved in an ugly spat during 2010 India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash

India and Pakistan are gearing up to meet each other in their opening game&nbsp;in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition&nbsp;being held in the UAE. The tournament will be played in the shortest format, as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup later this year, and India will enter as the defending champions.

For the unversed, India have won the Asia Cup on as many as seven occasions, winning the last two seasons, including the only edition held in the T20I format, whereas the Men in Green have won it only twice. Both teams have played each other on several occasions in the tournament's history but never locked horns in the summit clash.

In this year's edition, there are chances of an Indo-Pak clash on three occasions, including the final. Ahead of Pakistan's tour of Netherlands, Pakistan captain Babar Azam addressed a press conference where he was asked whether his side is ready to make it 3-0 versus India if they face them thrice in Asia Cup 2022 (including the group stage, Super Four round and final).

"Dekhe pressure kuchh nahi hai. Koshish yahi hoti hai ki match ko match ki tarah&nbsp;hi khelein.&nbsp;(We'll try to approach it like any other match)," Babar&nbsp;replied.

Asia Cup: Will Pakistan make it 3-0 vs India on facing them thrice? Babar Azam answers journalist's query

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam is currently enjoying a purple patch with the willow in international cricket. Babar has been a force to reckon with for Pakistan across all three formats and has been among the most consistent run-getters for the team&nbsp;and despite the team's crammed schedule, remains unfazed by the increased workload.

Babar had a cheeky response to a reporter's query about his workload during Pakistan's pre-departure press conference ahead of their upcoming series against the Netherlands. Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series in the Netherlands followed by the Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE later this year.

During the presser, a reporter queried Babar if he felt some players should focus only on playing two formats considering the amount of cricket being played by Pakistan lately. Babar had a tongue-in-cheek response to the reporter and asked him if he felt the Pakistan skipper has become old.

"Don't you think the players were depressed, the workload was more? So won't it be a good idea if you people play only two formats," the reporter asked Babar.

"It depends on your fitness. I don't think we should limit ourselves to two formats. Do you think I have become old," Babar responded. The journalist was quick to argue that the workload is more compared to what it was before. "The workload is much more," he told the Pakistan skipper.

"I don't think so. If the load is more, then we will improve our fitness levels," Babar gave a firm reply.

Several former cricketers and experts have recently raised questions over&nbsp;the packed schedule&nbsp;of international teams arguing that it has made it difficult for players to play all three formats of the game. However, as far as Pakistan are concerned, they have only played 12 international matches so far in 2022.

'Do you think I have become old?': Babar Azam tells reporter on question over increased workload

The BCCI selection committee announced a 15-member Team India squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition on Monday (August 08). The tournament will be held in the UAE with India, the defending champions, to begin their campaign versus arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.

This time around, the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format — the second time in the tournament's history — as a rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, in October-November. India's squad sees the return of senior pros Virat Kohli and KL Rahul whereas Jasprit Bumrah missed out due to a back injury. Nonetheless, former chief selector and keeper-batter Kiran More was unimpressed seeing R Ashwin hold onto his spot, who was recalled for the West Indies T20Is.

“I was surprised. How can Ashwin even come in this team? And every time. Even in the last World Cup, he was picked in the team and then did not play. Look at his IPL record, it is not that good. I really felt Shami should have taken that role or Axar Patel. And Axar has performed very well. Shami is my player, and he will go to the World Cup. I want wicket-taking bowlers. Shami can pick wickets with the new ball, in the middle overs and in the slog overs as well,” More said on Star Sports.

'We only care about those 2-3 games vs India' - Former Pak pacer slams Babar & Co. ahead of Asia Cup

Virat Kohli's name continues to make heads turn. While the former Indian captain has been out of action from international cricket since India's tour of England, the 33-year-old is still making the headlines as there is a lot of talk regarding his form.

Kohli has been going through a lean patch for quite long. He ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 whereas his century-drought continus since late 2019. Ahead of his return in Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka legend and Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene opined on Kohli's poor form. The former right-handed batter feels it is 'unfortunate' what Virat is going through but has backed him to 'come out of it'.

Speaking on ICC Review show, Jayawardene said, "It is unfortunate what Virat is going through right now at the moment, but he is a quality player. I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form slump). He has done that in the past as well and I’m sure he’ll come through this. Class is permanent and form is temporary."

<section>
Further, Jayawardene also opined on Rishabh Pant as an opener, who has opened the innings for India on a few occasions in the recent past in white-ball formats. "Even though he (Pant) hasn’t done that (open the batting) much in domestic cricket, he has the capacity to do that. Wherever he bats, you’re not going to change his game. He is going to be a very natural player so yes, it is an option (for Pant to open)," Jayawardene stated.&nbsp;

India are yet to finalise their openers ahead of the T20 World Cup and there are now several contenders, such as KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Pant, Suryakumar Yadav who can open with captain Rohit Sharma.

On Monday (August 08), BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, in the UAE, from August 27-September 11.

Along with Virat, KL Rahul also made a comeback. He has been out of action since IPL 2022 and last played an international game in February. Thus, Jayawardene feels he needs game time before getting into his groove. "That (Rahul's lack of cricket) would be a concern for India. He has been out for a little while since the IPL, so having game time is quite crucial especially out there in the middle. The sooner he can get some game time and get that confidence back, is always going to help him, as well as the national team" the Sri Lankan concluded.

I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form slump). He has done that in the past as well and I’m sure he’ll come through this. Class is permanent and form is temporary." Further, Jayawardene also opined on Rishabh Pant as an opener, who has opened the innings for India on a few occasions in the recent past in white-ball formats. "Even though he (Pant) hasn’t done that (open the batting) much in domestic cricket, he has the capacity to do that. Wherever he bats, you’re not going to change his game. He is going to be a very natural player so yes, it is an option (for Pant to open)," Jayawardene stated. India are yet to finalise their openers ahead of the T20 World Cup and there are now several contenders, such as KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Pant, Suryakumar Yadav who can open with captain Rohit Sharma. ALSO READ | Asia Cup: Virat Kohli to become 2nd cricketer to complete unique ton in India's opener vs Pakistan On Monday (August 08), BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, in the UAE, from August 27-September 11.

'It is unfortunate...' - SL legend Mahela Jayawardene reacts to Virat Kohli's barren run ahead of Asia Cup

Virat Kohli is gearing up for his return in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. Kohli was out of action during Rohit Sharma-led India's white-ball tour of West Indies as the out-of-form batter was given rest and, hence, all eyes are now on his comeback.&nbsp;

Ahead of his return, Kohli is on the verge of attaining a unique feat under his belt. So far, he has represented India in 99 T20Is and, hence, the Men in Blue's Asia Cup opener, versus Pakistan on August 28, will see him play his 100th game in the format. Thus, he will become only the second cricketer overall to play 100 matches in all forms of the game for his national side. Earlier, Ross Taylor had attained this feat during Kohli-led India's tour of New Zealand in the pre-Covid era in early 2020.

Prior to the Asia Cup campaign, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opined on Kohli's form. The star Indian batter has been woefully out of touch of late and, hence, there is a lot of pressure on him ahead of India's T20 World Cup squad announcement.&nbsp;

In this regard, Chopra told on Star Sports, "Doesn’t matter if he (Kohli) scores a 40 or 70 because everybody has a role to play. There’s synergy in every player; regardless of the position he bats at, you are just going hell for leather. If that’s the mindset, then it’s going to be a lot easier for Kohli."

He added, "It’s the perfect set-up. The kind of cricket India is playing at the moment, the team doesn’t expect Kohli to score 70 or a 100 or finish the game. You just come and play your natural game, that’s more than enough."

So far, Kohli has amassed 3308 runs in 99 T20Is. Will he make a big score in the upcoming clash versus Pakistan? Only time will tell...

Asia Cup: Virat Kohli to become 2nd cricketer to complete unique ton in India's opener vs Pakistan

Team India's star batter Shikhar Dhawan has opened up on his absence from the T20I squad despite his consistent performances with the bat. Dhawan has not been part of India's T20I squad for quite a while now and played his last T20I for the Men in Blue against Sri Lanka in July last year and has since not been part of the squad.

Dhawan has been one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 with 587 runs and followed it up with another impressive campaign for his new team Punjab Kings this year. He notched up 460 runs in IPL 2022 and was among the top performers with the willow.

However, despite his consistent run in the IPL, Dhawan has failed to impress the selectors, who seem to have closed the door on the veteran batter as far as T20Is are concerned. Dhawan was recently asked about his non-selection in India's T20I squad and said he had no idea why he is not selected.

“I honestly don’t know about it, maybe it could be the reason. I don’t want to go deep about it I have not played T20 for India for a long time now, I don’t know where I see myself. I look to make the most out of every opportunity I am getting. Be it IPL, domestic cricket, or ODI, I just want to do well, and that is the only thing under my control,” Dhawan told the Indian Express.

While he is no more part of India's T20I plans, Dhawan has also been not in the scheme of things of India in Tests. The prolific left-hander played his last Test match in September 2018 and has not managed to make a comeback amid the rise of youngsters like Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul among others.

Dhawan currently only plays ODI cricket for India and is focused on enjoying what he has on his plate rather than focusing on the formats which he has been discarded from.&nbsp;“I really enjoy playing ODI cricket. It’s an art and still has charm. I love playing it. Like Test and T20 have their values, ODI cricket is also exciting. I really like it,” said the India batter.

'I honestly don't know': Shikhar Dhawan on reason behind his absence from India's T20I squad

Virat Kohli's form remains a big topic of discussion. The former Indian captain was rested for India's white-ball tour of West Indies and will now make a return to the 22-yard cricket strip during the forthcoming Asia Cup, to kick off in August 27 in the UAE.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has made a bold claim. Kaneria feels a struggling Kohli will be able to move past his poor form and revive his career courtesy of the Asian championship, which will be played in the shortest format (for the second-time in tournament-history).

"The Asia Cup will change Virat Kohli's career. The tournament is crucial for him to prolong his career and I feel he will come good. However, many former cricketers have said that Kohli is just heavy baggage on the team if he doesn't score runs. So he needs to think carefully about how he can make a comeback. This is because there are other dynamic batters like Iyer, Samson and Gill waiting in the wings," Kaneria shared his views on his YouTube channel.

The tainted spinner also suggested the batting slot for the star Indian batter. "Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open. But I would put Suryakumar Yadav at No. 3 and then followed by Kohli. Kohli will need some time to settle-in and play carefully so I think he should bat at No.4," Kaneria added.

'It will change his career' - Ex-Pakistan spinner makes BOLD claim, says Asia Cup will benefit Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, who was rested for the white-ball tour of West Indies, is all set to return to action for Team India during the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition. The upcoming showpiece event will be held in the UAE, with Sri Lanka as hosts, and will be played in the shortest format -- for the second time in the tournament history -- as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (from October-November).

The Indian cricket loyalists will be desperate to see Kohli return to form, who has been struggling for quite a while. He didn't score a single half-century in the England tour, had an ordinary run in IPL 2022 and his century-drought continues since late 2019. However, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels Kohli will benefit from India's new-found aggressive batting approach in T20Is.

'You are just going hell...' - Aakash Chopra explains how Virat Kohli will benefit from India's new approach

Arshdeep Singh has been climbing up the ladder for Team India ever since his international debut. After impressing one and all with his skills, a steady head and ability to bowl in the powerplays as well as during the death overs, the 23-year-old has been able to replicate the same so far while donning the India jersey.

Thus, Arshdeep's stocks have risen in the recent past. In the just-concluded India-West Indies T20Is, in the Caribbean island, the left-arm pacer returned with the Player-of-the-Series award, with seven wickets at an average of&nbsp;16.14. He was exceptional in the death overs and has been included in the Asia Cup 2022 squad. Former Indian cricketer-turned-expert Sanjay Manjrekar feels Arshdeep is slightly above Avesh Khan in the pecking order at present with regard to the T20 World Cup squad selection.

"So, a race going on to clamour to get those seats on business class to Australia. And that's where I think you would have to say Arshdeep Singh has overtaken Avesh Khan. Avesh Khan is slightly behind there and that is something that's very interesting. You know this is a real competition going on for sports. Arshdeep Singh has certainly taken a little lead over Avesh Khan because he's doing exactly what is what Avesh Khan's role is - to go with the new ball in the middle and in the death as well,” Manjrekar told&nbsp;Sports 18.

'He has little lead over Avesh Khan' - Manjrekar on young pacer ahead of India's T20 WC squad selection

Virat Kohli and vice-captain KL Rahul have returned to the Indian team as the BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, which will get underway in the UAE from August 27.&nbsp;

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad sees the comeback of Kohli, who missed the entire West Indies tour due to rest, whereas opener Rahul has also returned after suffering a groin injury and being infected by Covid-19. Meanwhile, the defending champions have been dealt with a huge blow as their premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out.

In a tweet from the official handle of the BCCI, it wrote, "Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection owing to injuries. They are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru."

Thus, India will go with three frontline seamers in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan with all-rounder Hardik Pandya being the fourth pacer. Among the main batters, Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul, Kohli, wicketkeeper-batters Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and Hardik will spearhead the department.

Hardik, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin are the main all-rounders. The spin department will be headed by Ashwin, Jaddu, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi whereas Hooda can also chip in with a few overs of spin. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul return in Jasprit Bumrah-less Team India squad for Asia Cup 2022

After India's successful white-ball tour of West Indies, the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will now shift their focus towards the forthcoming Asia Cup, in UAE, which will be played in the shortest format as a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup (to kick off later this year in Australia).

While India are ticking a lot of boxes, they do have some issues to sort out while finalising their T20 WC squad. Along with problems of plenty, India also need Virat Kohli to return to form at the earliest. The former Indian skipper has looked out of sorts for long and even ended the England tour without a single half-century across formats. His century-drought also continues since 2019 whereas his similar sort of dismissals -- chasing the ball on the fourth or fifth-stump line -- have led to his criticism.

A lot has been said and written about Kohli's batting slot. Should India open with Kohli and Rohit or is the former best suited at his preferred slot, i.e. No. 3? Or, can he be demoted? Amid all this, former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel suggested that Kohli should be promoted as an opener, to play freely and not as per the situation.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv said ahead of India's squad selection for Asia Cup,&nbsp;"I would want Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open. I want Kohli to open, so that he can just go out and unleash himself. He's taken a break, but we all know there's no shortage of ability in his batting style.

"As an opener, you start the game at 0-0. Whereas at No.3, you have to play according to the situation. Kohli can play the way he wants and can still play at a strike rate of 170, and if two wickets have fallen early, he can also play at 130," he stated.

"You want Kohli to play as freely as he can. There's no pressure on him and he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. He's already scored 70 hundreds and has scored plenty of runs.

"All his runs and his big knocks have come as an opener in the IPL in 2016, 2017 and 2018. That's the position that he likes and he likes to go out there an play an attacking brand of cricket," Parthiv further added.

Where should Virat Kohli bat? Ex-Indian stumper shares his preferred slot for star batter ahead of Asia Cup

The cricketing fans are eagerly waiting for the commencement of the Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. The forthcoming mega event in Asia will be held in the shortest format of the game and will see India and Pakistan face each other at least twice and are most likely to also clash in the final.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee tournament, former Pakistan captain and keeper-batter Rashid Latif opined on the upcoming Indo-Pak clash and feels Babar Azam-led Men in Green are better placed than their arch-rivals Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. He also revealed India's flaws while speaking on his official YouTube channel ‘Caught Behind’.

"Win or loss is different. But I think Pakistan's strategy is looking much better. There are not many changes in the Pakistan side, whether it's T20I, ODI or Test. When you look at India, they have had around 7 captains in the past year, which is quite inappropriate in present situation," Latif said.

“Kohli isn't there, Rohit and Rahul were injured. Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant came as captains, Shikhar Dhawan (ODI) also came as a captain. They would have some problem making their best team. It is no doubt that India have the best players but they can't make their best-16, and I think they would have problems even forming their best XI,” the ex-Pakistani&nbsp;stumper further asserted.

“Pakistan won because of India's mistakes last year, and I think this time, Pakistan will benefit from India's mistakes again,” added Latif.

There is a strong chance for India and Pakistan to face each other thrice as the two heavyweights are expected to meet in the tournament-finale. Even if that doesn't happen, the two Asian giants are set to lock horns in their respective T20 World Cup openers, at MCG, Melbourne.

Asia Cup: Ex-Pakistan captain feels Babar Azam & Co. better placed than India, points out Men in Blue's flaws

Pakistan have dropped seamer Hasan Ali and replaced him with teenage fast bowler Naseem Shah in their Twenty20 squad for the Asia Cup, which begins in Dubai on Aug. 27. Naseem has played 13 tests but the 19-year-old pacer is yet to play a limited-overs international for Pakistan. He has also been preferred for a three-match one-day series in the Netherlands preceding the Asia Cup.

"Hasan has been given a break from international cricket and he has been replaced by Naseem Shah," chief selector Mohammad Wasim said after announcing the squads on Wednesday.

"He (Naseem) is express fast and can give further impetus to the fast bowling department, which already boasts Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim junior, Shaheen Afridi and Shahnawaz Dahani.

Pace spearhead Afridi, who suffered a knee injury in Sri Lanka last month, has been named in both squads but medical staff would determine when he can return to action, the Pakistan Cricket Board said.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Tuesday (August 02) announced the complete schedule of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which will be hosted by the UAE this year. The tournament which is all set to be played in T20 format this year will get underway on August 27 with Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the opening game. The marquee clash between India and Pakistan will be played next in Dubai on August 28.

Asia Cup 2022 full schedule: India to take on Pakistan in blockbuster clash on August 28

Virat Kohli's form continues to be a cause of concern for Team India and its ardent fans. While Kohli is out of action at present and isn't part of Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s white-ball tour of the West Indies, the 33-year-old continues to make headlines as many former cricketers and experts share their views and give advises to the star batter on how to regain his form.

Many former players have commented on Kohli's recent rut. In the recent England tour, he returned without a single half-century across format whereas his last international ton came in late 2019. His dismissals are of similar pattern, poking at deliveries outside the off-stump, hence, many have opined on his lack of runs. Recently, when a journalist asked former Pakistan all-rounder and captain Shahid Afridi to comment on Kohli's struggles, the legendary cricketer gave a befitting reply.&nbsp;

United Arab Emirates will replace Sri Lanka as the venue for the Asia Cup, starting next month, due to the ongoing political and economic crisis in the island nation, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said. Sri Lanka will, however, remain hosts for the nine-team tournament, which will be played between Aug. 27-Sept&nbsp;11 and serve as preparation for the Asian sides in the leadup to the Twenty20 World Cup later this year.

The country of 22 million people has been crippled by an economic crisis, with shortages of fuel, food and other necessities. The Sri Lankan parliament on Wednesday approved the extension of a state of emergency for a month. Shammi Silva, the president of Sri Lanka`s cricket board (SLC) said they "fully stand by the ACC`s decision" to relocate the tournament.

Team India is at its best in the ongoing ODI series versus hosts West Indies, in the Caribbean island. The second-stringed Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three ODIs and will go for the kill in the final match, on Wednesday (July 27).&nbsp;

After the ODIs, the action will shift to the five-match T20I series where regular captain Rohit Sharma will take charge of the side. During the forthcoming T20I series versus the two-time winners West Indies, Rohit &amp; Co. will be eager to finalise their squad for this year's T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia from October-November.

Ahead of the five T20Is, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has backed a rising Indian talent to make it to the T20 WC and Asia Cup squads. "Mark my words. Arshdeep will play the third ODI and make an impact too. Arshdeep has the art, and he uses his mind while bowling. He bowls sensibly and knows how to take wickets. He can be a fantastic option for the Indian team for T20 World Cup and maybe for Asia Cup as well. 'Fantastic option': Former Pakistan cricketer backs young Indian player for T20 WC & Asia Cup squads

Virat Kohli has not enjoyed the best of form so far in 2022 and has struggled to score runs consistently for Team India. However, the senior batter is desperate to bounce back and has vowed to do 'anything for the team' to help the Men in Blue win the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup this year. Kohli is currently not in action in India's ongoing ODI series against West Indies as he has been rested from the three-match rubber.

The Indian run machine is expected to make his comeback for the Men in Blue in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. One of the best batters in the present era, Kohli was once scoring centuries for fun in international cricket but has witnessed a massive dip in form over the last couple of years.

His last century for India came in November 2019 and Kohli is on the verge of completing 1,000 without an international ton for the first time in his career. However, despite his poor form, Kohli has been backed by several former cricketers and the Indian team management to bounce back with the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022 lined up this year.

Kohli had a below-par IPL 2022 campaign for Royal Challengers Bangalore following which he was rested for the South Africa T20I series at home. Kohli made his comeback in India's recently-concluded tour of England but his flop show continued as the batting maestro could only manage 76 runs in 6 innings across formats against England.

His woeful run with the willow sparked debate over his spot in India's T20I team with several experts suggesting Kohli should be dropped. However, the senior Indian batter has decided to respond to his critics and has vowed to do anything for the Indian team to help them win the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup this year.

My aim is to win Asia Cup, T20 World Cup 2022 for India, ready to do anything for the team: Virat Kohli

The Asia Cup is "likely" to be moved out of Sri Lanka in the wake of political unrest in the island nation, SLC secretary Mohan de Silva said on Sunday, adding that the tournament could be played in the UAE. Sri Lanka, which has been battling an economic crisis, has witnessed widespread protests against the government for weeks.

However, the situation worsened with president Gotabaya Rajapaksa fleeing the country on a military jet. "The Asia Cup is very likely that it will be held in the UAE," Sri Lanka Cricket secretary de Silva told PTI when asked about a possible change in the venue of the T20 tournament.

The dates for the six-team tournament are expected to remain the same as scheduled earlier from August 26 to September 11. A qualifier will also take place before the main event with Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait and UAE battling out for the one qualification spot.

Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh will be the five full-member teams. With Australia tour of Sri Lanka going off smoothly and Pakistan currently playing Test cricket in Sri Lanka, there were hopes that the SLC might be able to host the continental event.

The tournament serves as good preparation for the Asian teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November. An official announcement from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on the change in tournament venue is expected soon. The ACC is headed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday said that it wanted Asia Cup to be played in Sri Lanka.

"Our first preference is to support Sri Lanka and play the Asia Cup there. If this tournament does not take place in Sri Lanka, it will be a huge cricketing and financial loss for them. Australia's recent tour of Sri Lanka went off without any problems," said PCB chief executive Faisal Hasnain in a statement.

"Similarly, there have been no issues with the ongoing Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka as we are constantly in touch with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and our embassy in the country.

Our discussions with the ACC representatives have suggested that the tournament is on track at the moment as they are monitoring the situation very carefully and we will support their decision."

Asia Cup 2022 likely to be shifted from Sri Lanka to UAE, says SLC secretary Mohan de Silva

All eyes are on the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022. The upcoming mega event will be held in Sri Lanka despite the political and economical unrest in the country. Amid the chaos in the Island nation, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC)&nbsp;got the green light to host the tournament and it will be played in the T20I format.&nbsp;

This will be the second time that the Asia Cup will be held in the shortest format, as a preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Moreover, this will also be the first time that the Asia Cup will take place after the 2018 edition. In 2018, Rohit Sharma-led India won the tournament, beating Bangladesh in a humdinger of a final, and the Men in Blue will be eager to win the trophy for the third time in a row (which will be seventh overall). Ahead of the official schedule is released, which is expected to be out very soon, many reports have suggested that India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.&nbsp;

Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma-led India to square off against Pakistan on August 28 - Reports

Among the cricket fans, all&nbsp;eyes are on the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022, which will be held in Sri Lanka, followed by the T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia in October-November. The two big marquee events will also give fans plenty to cheer for as India and Pakistan will square off against each other in both the tournaments.&nbsp;

Last year, the senior men's teams locked horns against each other in the&nbsp;T20 World Cup (T20 WC), held in the UAE. Contrary to expectations, the Babar Azam-led Men in Green demolished India by ten wickets to achieve their maiden win over their Asian neighbours in any World Cup (ODIs or T20Is). Thus, this time around, fans will see more of both sides against each other in the Asia Cup as well as the eighth edition of the T20 WC. Ahead of the rivalry getting resumed on the 22-yard cricket strip, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has made a big statement claiming that Babar &amp; Co. are a better side than Rohit Sharma-led India.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"India is no doubt a good team, but there’s no example of the way Pakistan is currently playing cricket," the former Pakistan cricketer was quoted as saying by&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan. "Pakistan has players like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan who are currently named as the best players by the ICC," he opined.

Further, the ex-Pakistan captain and keeper feels it will be India vs Pakistan in the Asia Cup, to be held in the Island nation in August-September, in the T20I format. "I am hopeful for Pakistan to win the Asia Cup in 2022. The victory against India in the recent T20 World Cup 2021 has increased hopes for Pakistan," Latif stated. "No doubt other teams are also competitive, but the main competition in Asia Cup 2022 will be between India and Pakistan," Latif mentioned.
