US President Joe Biden, expressing shock over the shooting rampage that claimed the lives of three university students of Palestinian descent in the state of Vermont, said that he and the first lady were "horrified", the White House released a statement saying on Monday (Nov 27).

"The president and the first lady were horrified," Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. "These students were taking part in a uniquely American tradition, gathering with family and loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving. They should be back in school with their classmates, not in a hospital room."

The incident that took place on a street near the University of Vermont on Saturday evening (Nov 25), is being seen by authorities as a possible "hate-motivated crime".

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Jason J. Eaton, was arrested by the police. He lived in an apartment building near the site of the shooting and was detained around 3:30 pm (local time) at the site of the attack.

Actress Melissa Barrera has issued a statement for the first time since her exit from the Scream franchise. Barrera was fired by the Spyglass Media Group over her pro-Palestine posts on social media. The production banner deemed the posts as antisemitic. Barrera’s response came on Wednesday afternoon through a post on her Instagram story.

“First and foremost I condemn antisemitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people,” Barrera wrote. “As a Latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need. Every person on this earth — regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status — deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom. I believe a group of people are NOT their leadership, and that no governing body should be above criticism.”

“I pray day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence, and for peaceful co-existence,” Barrera’s statement continues. “I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom. Silence is not an option for me.”

Earlier in the month, Barrera had reshared a post accusing Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing” as well as a passage from Jewish Currents magazine that accused the Israeli government of distorting “the Holocaust to boost the Israeli arms industry.”

Spyglass had initially refused to comment on Barrera's statement, however later it clarified that the actress was not fired for her support of the Palestinian cause. Rather, the company interpreted her social media posts as antisemitic.

“We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Barrera was supposed to star in the seventh instalment of Scream after leading the fifth and sixth entries alongside Jenna Ortega. Following Barrera’s firing, Ortega was also confirmed to be leaving the franchise, though sources state that Ortega’s exit is due to a scheduling conflict with production on Season 2 of Wednesday.

Just days after X owner Elon Musk agreed to post brandishing a "hideous" antisemitic conspiracy theory on the platform, several major advertisers have paused their ads on the site.

This includes Walt Disney Co, Warner Bros Discovery and NBCUniversal parent Comcast.

A pause in revenue?

Musk's endorsement of the post may leave some impact on X's (formerly Twitter) revenue. On Wednesday (Nov 8), the X owner said that the user who referenced the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory was speaking "the actual truth."

This was labelled "hideous," and an "abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate" by the White House.

US Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixon rejected X's attempt to invalidate a longstanding privacy settlement with the FTC. CNN reports that he said that the District Court for the Northern District of California lacks the authority to grant X's request.

The Joe Biden administration has warned schools and colleges in the United States that the nation is witnessing an "alarming rise" in antisemitism and Islamophobia. The authorities have urged educational institutions to take immediate action against the rising threats and harassment.

In a letter on Tuesday (Nov 7), the US Education Department said that in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war, there was a "renewed urgency" to fight discrimination against students.

"Antisemitism, Islamophobia and all other forms of hatred go against everything we stand for as a nation," said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona in a statement.

However, hate crimes, unfortunately, are nothing new in the United States.

In the wake of history-changing events like the 9/11 terror attack, the Covid pandemic and now the Israel-Hamas war, the 'land of opportunity' as it was once called becomes the hot bed for Xenophobia — the fear or dislike of anything which is perceived as being foreign or strange.

Aftermath of Israel-Hamas war

In the wake of the ongoing war in the Middle East, the US has seen an "alarming rise" in cases of antisemitism and Islamophobia, as per the Biden administration.

In a recent statement released on the 25th Anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act, President Joe Biden said: "Here at home, we are facing a rising tide of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of discrimination that are fuelling violence and hate across our country."

However, the US President said that "in the wake of Hamas' brutal terrorist assault against Israel," they are "working with community partners to identify, prevent, and disrupt any threats that could harm the Jewish, Muslim, Arab American, Palestinian American, or any other communities."

After Hamas militants launched their attack on October 7, incidents of hate crimes started cropping up very rapidly.

One case that left the world shocked involved a six-year-old child, who became the victim of a senseless hate crime borne out of fear.

Unfortunately, no. Modern history has already been witness to two such major episodes, where a particular race or religion saw widespread hatred: the Covid pandemic and the 9/11 attacks.

The US Department of Education has issued a warning that educational institutions, including schools and colleges, may face funding cuts if they do not effectively address issues related to antisemitism and Islamophobia.

This directive stresses on the legal obligation of these institutions to tackle instances of discrimination, with a particular focus on concerns related to Jewish, Israeli, Muslim, Arab, or Palestinian communities.

Failure to take appropriate measures to tackle these issues could potentially result in the loss of federal funding for schools and colleges, reported CNN.

Increased complaints trigger action

Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, in an interview with CNN, noted a significant increase in complaints lodged with the Department's Office of Civil Rights.

This surge in complaints came following the Hamas terror attacks on Israel in the previous month. The Office of Civil Rights received approximately eight to nine complaints related to incidents of antisemitism and Islamophobia on school campuses since October 7.

"I would want to provide support for these universities, provide guidance. And if there are egregious acts, I want to make sure that we're investigating," Cardona said.

"Ultimately, if we have to withhold dollars from a campus refusing to comply, we would," he added.

Cardona is actively seeking increased funding from Congress to expedite investigations against antisemitism and Islamophobia.

The Office of Civil Rights has recently updated its discrimination complaint form to clarify that Title VI's protection from discrimination based on race, colour, or national origin extends to students who are or are perceived to be Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, or have other shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics. This means that anyone can file a discrimination complaint.

The agency is currently in the process of developing additional guidelines to assist educational institutions in addressing discrimination incidents. However, there is no specified timeline for the completion of this framework, as reported by CNN.

US schools, colleges at risk of funding reduction if they fail to address antisemitism, Islamophobia on campus

The US House of Representatives late Tuesday (Nov 7) passed a resolution with a 234-188 tally to censure Democratic leader Rashida Tlaib (Michigan) for her ‘antisemitic’ rhetoric.

The congresswoman has long been accused of “spreading falsehoods” about Israel and favouring Hamas, which the US government officially considers a terrorist organisation.

Interestingly, even some of her own party members ditched her during the voting, leaving the Democratic leader struggling to justify her stance. AP reported at least 20 Democrats joined Republicans in the effort to punish Tlaib.

Republican Rep. Rich McCormick of Georgia, who pushed the resolution, condemned Tlaib for smearing ‘USA’s greatest ally.’

He said she has “levied unbelievable falsehoods about our greatest ally, Israel, and the attack on October 7.”

Tlaib also came under heavy fire for failing to condemn Hamas for its attacks that triggered massive retaliation from the Jewish nation.

Rashida Tlaib’s justification

Tlaib declared she would not be silenced, as she was backed by some Democrats having second thoughts over the Biden administration’s ‘unconditional’ support to Israel.

“I will not let you distort my words,” she said, adding that her criticism of the Jewish state has always been directed toward its government and its leadership under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“It is important to separate people and government. The idea that criticising the government of Israel is antisemitic sets a very dangerous precedent. And it’s been used to silence diverse voices speaking up for human rights across our nation,” she said.

Consequences of censureship

The censureship of a lawmaker has practically no effect, but it may lead to severe criticism from colleagues. Lawmakers who are censured are usually asked to stand in the well of the House as the censure resolution against them is read aloud, reported AP.

It is to be noted that Tlaib became the second Muslim-American congresswoman to face punishment measures. In February, Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee for similar comments she made about Israel.

Censure had long been viewed as a punishment of last resort, just one step below expulsion and to be triggered only for the most egregious wrongdoing.

Russia beefs up security in Muslim-majority region after anti-Semetic riots, Israel asks citizens to leave

For years, Hollywood has been a stronghold of progressive values, where the left-leaning Democratic Party finds resounding support. It's a place where liberal ideologies are championed, and where celebrities have used their platform to endorse causes like Black Lives Matter. This ideological alignment appeared almost unshakeable until the events of October 7, when an armed conflict erupted between Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups and the Israeli military.

The attack began with a coordinated surprise offensive by Hamas, codenamed "Al-Aqsa Flood." It involved a massive rocket barrage launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel and the breach of the Gaza-Israel barrier by Palestinian militants who attacked civilian communities and Israeli military bases. Israel formally declared war on Hamas after the offensive.

It launched airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, resulting in thousands of deaths. Concerns about a humanitarian crisis have escalated after Israel discontinued the provision of food, water, electricity, and fuel to Gaza.

The war has divided global public opinion, with several pro-Palestine rallies, anti-Semitic attacks and terrorist killings reported from different parts of the world. Hollywood has also not been left untouched. But in order to understand the Hollywood reaction, we need to dig into its past a bit.

Exploring Hollywood's deep Jewish roots

From the very inception of Hollywood, Jews have played a key role in shaping the entertainment industry. Seeking refuge from anti-Semitism and discrimination in other industries, Jewish immigrants in the early 20th century became pioneers in the burgeoning film business. Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros, Universal Pictures – these major studios, founded by Jewish entrepreneurs, would go on to become the cornerstones of the industry.

Over the decades, Jews have ascended to prominence in various roles within the entertainment and media businesses. Figures like Barbra Streisand, Kirk Douglas, and Natalie Portman have achieved international acclaim as actors, while directors like Steven Spielberg and Mel Brooks have left indelible marks on cinema. Producers, including Carl Laemmle and Lew Wasserman, have played pivotal roles in shaping the industry's business landscape. The Jewish influence extends beyond the names and faces on the screen, touching upon the stories told, the themes explored, and the values championed.

The resounding silence

What's remarkable about the recent Hollywood divide is the notable silence that followed the Israel-Hamas conflict. Prominent celebrities, often vocal about global events on social media, remained surprisingly quiet. Major studios, typically quick to comment on socio-political issues worldwide, initially chose silence over action. This stands in stark contrast to the industry's unified opposition to Russia's Ukraine invasion in February 2022.

The Writers' Guild divide

The most evident division emerged within the Writers Guild of America (WGA), representing a significant portion of Hollywood's screenwriters. The WGA's decision not to condemn the attacks on Israel left many Jewish writers disenchanted. Some even contemplated severing ties with the union, while others, like Marc Guggenheim, a notable writer and producer, decided to withhold their dues. In contrast, an anonymous pro-Palestinian group known as WGA for Peace supported the union's stance, arguing that its members were apprehensive about being labelled as anti-Semitic.

A broader ideological chasm

This divide isn't confined to Hollywood; it extends to the broader liberal landscape. The Israel-Palestine conflict has ignited passionate debates within political circles, among students on college campuses in prestigious universities like Harvard and Stanford, and within progressive activist groups and philanthropic organisations. On one side, there's fervent support for Israel, while on the other, an energised faction perceives the Palestinian cause as an extension of the broader social justice movements that gained momentum in the United States in 2020. Simultaneously, there are voices, including Jewish individuals, advocating for a ceasefire.

Letters to President Biden

Prominent figures, including well-known actors like Paul Rudd and Ben Stiller, expressed their gratitude to President Joe Biden for his diplomatic efforts in one letter. In contrast, another group, featuring notables like Ben Affleck and Tony Kushner, penned a separate letter, urging President Biden to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Israel.

Social media controversy

Differences in opinion also spilled over onto social media platforms. Notable agent Maha Dakhil at the Creative Artists Agency faced a backlash after characterising Israel's airstrikes in Gaza as "genocide" in an Instagram post. Dakhil, who represents high-profile stars like Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon, later issued an apology and stepped down from an internal leadership position at the agency. This incident led to the loss of a significant client, screenwriter and playwright Aaron Sorkin, who opted to switch to a rival agency.

Resurgence of anti-Semitism

While the division within the entertainment industry hasn't led to violence, there's growing concern among Jewish individuals as anti-Semitic incidents and hate crimes have surged in the United States since the start of the conflict. The Anti-Defamation League reported a 388 per cent increase in harassment, vandalism, and assault in the past three weeks compared to the same period the previous year.

Is the complexity of the conflict to blame?

The divide that has emerged within Hollywood may, in large part, be attributed to the inherent complexity of the Israel-Palestine conflict. This multifaceted and deeply entrenched conflict defies simplistic solutions and has fueled a wide spectrum of opinions, even within the liberal bastion of Hollywood.

The conflict's long and turbulent history, marked by territorial disputes, historical grievances, and competing narratives, has generated passionate advocacy on both sides. Within the entertainment industry, where social and political issues are often under the spotlight, navigating this intricate landscape becomes challenging.

The conflict's nuances make it difficult for a one-size-fits-all approach to be embraced in a place like Hollywood, where diversity of thought and perspective is generally celebrated. This complexity has contributed to the divide within the industry, with individuals and organisations grappling with how to align their values and beliefs in a landscape marked by conflicting loyalties and deeply held convictions.

Exploring Hollywood's deep Jewish roots From the very inception of Hollywood, Jews have played a key role in shaping the entertainment industry. Also Read | Explained | How Netanyahu helped turn Hamas into his Frankenstein's monster The resounding silence What's remarkable about the recent Hollywood divide is the notable silence that followed the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Writers' Guild divide The most evident division emerged within the Writers Guild of America (WGA), representing a significant portion of Hollywood's screenwriters. A broader ideological chasm This divide isn't confined to Hollywood; it extends to the broader liberal landscape. Explained | How Israel-Hamas war is dividing Hollywood and celeb world

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday called upon X (formerly known as Twitter) boss Elon Musk to 'roll back' anti-Semitism on the platform, during an in-person conversation.

The pair met for a brief exchange at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California, before the Israeli leader travelled to New York to meet with world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.

“I know your commitment to free speech. But I also know your opposition to anti-Semitism. You’ve spoken about it, tweeted about it," Netanyahu told Musk.

"And all I can say is, I hope you find, within the confines of the First Amendment, the ability to stop not only antisemitism, or roll it back as best you can, but any collective hatred of people….I know you’re committed to that and I hope you succeed. And it’s not an easy task, but I encourage you and urge you to find a balance," added Netanyahu.

In a reply, Musk said while his platform couldn't stop all hate speech, he was "generally against attacking any group, no matter who it is".

“Obviously, I’m against anti-Semitism. I’m anti-really anything that is, you know, that promotes hate and conflict. And I’m in favour of that which helps society and takes us to a better future for humanity collectively.”

However, when Musk shifted to the importance of allowing free speech, the Israeli PM, in a rather gentle way, pushed back.

'I hope you...': Israeli PM Netanyahu urges Musk to fight anti-Semitism

On a seemingly ordinary Monday (September 4) afternoon, tech mogul Elon Musk, known for his controversial Twitter presence, made a surprising statement on his verified Twitter account. Musk, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, declared his stance against antisemitism, sparking a Twitter storm and subsequent clash with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The move brought to light several issues, including allegations of false accusations and a significant decline in advertising revenue for X, which Musk attributed to the ADL's influence.

Musk's allegations and threats

Elon Musk's Twitter posts expressed his concern over antisemitism and free speech. He accused the ADL of attempting to undermine his social media platform by falsely labelling it and himself as antisemitic. Musk even hinted at a potential defamation lawsuit against the ADL, threatening to force them to drop the "anti" part of their name if they lost the suit. This provocative move left many wondering about the implications and possible legal actions.

ADL's response and policy

In response to Musk's accusations, the ADL refrained from commenting on the legal threats, citing their policy. They referred media inquiries to a general statement addressing a recent #BanTheADL campaign on the platform, which Musk had engaged with. This stance signalled their intent to remain focused on their mission of combating hate in all forms and safeguarding marginalised groups.

Advertising revenue woes

Musk also claimed that X's advertising revenue had plummeted by 60 per cent in the US. He attributed this sharp decline to pressure from the ADL, alleging that advertisers were influenced by the organisation's actions. This assertion raised questions about the power of advocacy groups over social media platforms and their revenue streams.

Previous controversies and legal battles

This clash between Musk and the ADL isn't the first controversy surrounding X. In the past, advertisers expressed concerns about potential changes Musk might make to the platform, leading to a pullback in advertising. Musk himself blamed "activist groups" for trying to suppress free speech on the platform. Additionally, X recently filed a lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), accusing them of orchestrating a campaign to drive advertisers away from the platform. This lawsuit added another layer to Musk's legal battles and drew criticism from CCDH.

The ADL had previously published a report accusing X of failing to take action against hate speech. Their research indicated that a mere 28 per cent of posts flagged for antisemitic content received sanctions or removal. This critique highlighted concerns about X's commitment to combating hate speech and its effectiveness in content moderation.

A study from Montclair State University revealed a concerning increase in hate speech on X shortly after Musk assumed ownership. The platform witnessed a surge in offensive content targeting individuals based on race and other protected classes, suggesting a shift in the acceptability of such content under Musk's leadership. Moreover, X faced backlash for seemingly reversing its policy aimed at protecting transgender individuals on the platform, earning it the title of "the most dangerous platform for LGBTQ people", according to GLAAD's Social Media Safety Index.

Why Jennifer Aniston is facing backlash for Jamie Foxx's antisemitic post?

Large groups of Orthodox Jewish customers were denied boarding by Lufthansa Airlines in May after some of them objected to wearing masks. The episode, which the airline’s CEO called “categorically unacceptable” was found to be unrelated to any institutional antisemitism, according to an independent investigation that was commissioned by the airline.

More than 100 Hasidic passengers were removed from a connecting flight from New York to Budapest on May 4 because some of them had not worn masks and engaged in other flight infractions, such as congregating in the aisles, according to a letter from Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Ritter also stated that the airline had formed an internal task force to investigate the incident.

Jews in America and Europe were incensed by the episode, and some of them claimed that the crew had discriminated against all visibly Jewish passengers, even those who had followed the regulations.

× The Conference of Presidents was one of many Jewish organisations that lambasted Lufthansa in the wake of the tragedy and demanded an exhaustive investigation. No antisemitism in decision to bar identifiable Jews from flight: Lufthansa

An investigation has revealed that the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, which is now a museum, has been a target of antisemitic content on Google Maps, and Google has failed to remove such comments.

More than 150 antisemitic comments have taken space on Google Maps website for the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Under the section of "Tell us what you loved about this place", people have left comments such as "Heil Hitler", "It’s a shame the SS was disbanded so long ago".

These comments have been on the website for months and some have even been there for years. For example, comments such as "Showers were a great experience, Anne Frankly I’m glad I came" and "Good place to go if you want to lose weight fast" have been there for four and nine years respectively.

While some users have posted anonymously, some are posing as Holocaust survivor Primo Levi, the Australian serial killer Ivan Milat, the SS commander Michael Wittmann and Adolf Hitler, and so on, to post antisemitic comments.

This observation was made through an investigation conducted by an international media house, The Guardian. The report also claims that even though the investigators tried flagging the comments through the feature of "flag as inappropriate", more than 153 comments stayed online for more than 24 hours.

The museum claims this has been a problem for a long time. "Our experience is that sadly, in many cases, different disturbing, antisemitic comments are often not removed after being reported as they ‘do not violate regulations’," Auschwitz Memorial’s spokesperson said.

All offending reports have been redirected to the Community Security Trust (CST), a charity offering advice and support to Jews experiencing antisemitism.

"It is sadly predictable that the listing for Auschwitz would attract antisemitic comments and Google ought to have systems in place to address this," a CST spokesperson said.

"Unfortunately [Google’s] failure to do so is yet another example of the need for effective regulation through the online harms bill. It is clear that the platforms’ existing policies are not doing the job."

Google has assured that proper action will be taken and the comments will be taken on priority while adding that the system will be evaluated to make sure such situations do not arise in future.

"We are appalled by these reviews on our platform and are taking action to remove the content and prevent further abuse," the Google spokesperson said. "We have clear policies that prohibit offensive and fake reviews and we work around the clock to monitor Maps. In this case, we know we need to do better and are working to evaluate and improve our detection systems."

Antisemitic comments found on Google Maps for Auschwitz Memorial; Google apologises

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday condemned an "unacceptable increase" in anti-Semitic vandalism and hate speech, linking it to a wave of demonstrations against his government, according to spokesman Benjamin Griveaux.

"Anti-Semitism is a repudiation of the Republic, in the same way that attacking elected officials or institutions is a repudiation of the Republic," Macron told ministers at a cabinet meeting, Griveaux said.

There has been widespread outrage over anti-Jewish graffiti and vandalism in and around Paris last weekend, including the desecration of a memorial to a young Jewish man who was tortured to death in 2006.

According to the spokesman, Macron said the incidents were "a new turn of events linked to the movement" of so-called "yellow vest" anti-government rallies.

The weekend incidents coincided with another Saturday of yellow vest protest against Macron and his perceived pro-business policies.

Government officials have suggested the anti-Semitic acts could be blamed in part on far-left and far-right activists who have infiltrated the weekly protests.

But they have offered no direct evidence of a link, and the rise in anti-Semitic acts predates the movement, which began in November.

Around 300 people gathered at the Paris memorial site Wednesday in Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois outside Paris to mark the anniversary of the gruesome killing of 23-year-old Ilan Halimi.

Officials, including the Israeli ambassador to France, planted trees to replace two sawn down over the weekend.

The interior minister said this week that the number of anti-Jewish offences reported to police surged 74 percent last year, to 541 up from 311 in 2017, after two years of declines.

''Jews in India have never witnessed antisemitism like in some other countries, this is a tribute to India's great civilization, tolerance and democracy,'' Netanyahu said during a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the second day of his India visit.

He also praised Modi's Israel visit and said that the Indian prime minister excited all Israelis and many Israelis of Indian descent.

''It (PM Modi's visit to Israel) excited all Israelis and of course many Israelis of Indian descent and origin came. Well, I thought I was at a rock concert. But it was a historic event,'' he said commenting on Modi's visit to his country.

The Israeli PM also promised to fight terror on the occasion.

''We remember the horrific savagery in Mumbai (26/11 attacks), we will never give in and will fight back,'' he said.

Modi also said that he invited Israeli companies to take advantage of the liberalised foreign direct investment (FDI) regime.

''In Defence, I have invited Israeli companies to take advantage of the liberalized FDI regime to make more in India with our companies,'' Modi said.

The two prime ministers, accompanied by their respective senior Cabinet colleagues, held delegation-level talks during which they also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Apart from a pact on cybersecurity, the agreements included cooperation in the oil and gas sector, film-co- production as well as amendments to an air transport pact.

Jews in India never witnessed antisemitism like in some other countries: Netanyahu

While touring the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Donald Trump addressed the rise in threats made against Jewish community centres.

The President did anything but satisfy Steven Goldstein, the executive director of the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect (AFCMR). The group posted his statement condemning Trump's so-called condemnation of Antisemitism.

The full statement reads:

The President’s sudden acknowledgement is a Band-Aid on the cancer of Antisemitism that has infected his own Administration. His statement today is a pathetic asterisk of condescension after weeks in which he and his staff have committed grotesque acts and omissions reflecting Antisemitism, yet day after day have refused to apologize and correct the record. Make no mistake: The Antisemitism coming out of this Administration is the worst we have ever seen from any Administration. The White House repeatedly refused to mention Jews in its Holocaust remembrance, and had the audacity to take offense when the world pointed out the ramifications of Holocaust denial. And it was only yesterday, President’s Day, that Jewish Community Centers across the nation received bomb threats, and the President said absolutely nothing. When President Trump responds to Antisemitism proactively and in real time, and without pleas and pressure, that’s when we’ll be able to say this President has turned a corner. This is not that moment.”

Trump had said, "Anti-Semitism is horrible and it's going to stop and it has to stop." Also, he added, "The anti-Semitic threats targetting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible and are a painful and very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil."

This comes one day after a wave of bomb threats caused 11 Jewish community centres to close temporarily. Such phone calls have targetted as many as 54 community centres in 27 states since 2017 alone. On Monday, vandals toppled over many headstones in a historic Jewish cemetery in St Louis.

Trump's administration was criticised earlier for making a statement on Holocaust remembrance--in which, among other groups, six million Jews were killed--that had no mention of the Jewish people, and for afterwards defending this ommission.
