These advanced radar systems enable meteorologists to closely track weather developments and issue timely alerts whenever necessary.&nbsp;<h2>Helpful in detecting highly localised severe weather events&nbsp;</h2>&nbsp;The move comes in the wake of the devastating flash floods near the Amarnath Holy Cave in 2022, which highlighted the need for a robust early warning system. Since then, strengthening weather monitoring infrastructure has been a key priority for the administration.&nbsp;The Doppler Weather Radar plays a crucial role in detecting highly localised severe weather events such as cloudbursts, heavy rainfall, sudden thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong gusty winds. It provides continuous surveillance of weather conditions along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and both pilgrimage routes, from the base camps to the Holy Cave, helping authorities respond swiftly to any adverse weather situation and ensuring the safety of pilgrims.&nbsp;"The IMD's Doppler radars at Banihal and Srinagar form the backbone of our weather monitoring and advisory system. It is an integrated mechanism that generates weather alerts and SMS notifications, which are shared with all stakeholders, including camp commanders deployed along the Yatra route and our Integrated Command and Control Centre in Srinagar. Display boards have been installed at every base camp, including Baltal and Nunwan, to provide real-time weather updates. Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Thursday flagged off 45 specialised Mountain Rescue Teams that will be deployed at 25 strategic locations along the Amarnath Yatra route, including the Holy Cave area. The specialised teams have been equipped with upgraded rescue gear and provided advanced training to enhance their operational capabilities. The objective is to ensure a swift and effective response in the event of natural disasters, accidents, or any other emergency during the annual pilgrimage. Around 45 columns of these teams will be stationed at 25 locations to assist the pilgrims and respond to any emergency situation. These specialised mountain rescue teams play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the Yatris. This year, we have made additional efforts by upgrading equipment and enhancing training standards to provide better services and emergency response capabilities. We are hopeful that the Yatra will be peaceful and that we will discharge our duties to the best of our abilities,” said Director SDRF Imtiyaz Hussain. However, this year they have received additional training and enhanced equipment support from central agencies to strengthen disaster response preparedness. The Amarnath Yatra routes are vulnerable to landslides, flash floods, and other natural hazards. In previous years, several incidents of landslides and adverse weather conditions have affected pilgrims and infrastructure along the route. The disaster management teams are tasked with ensuring immediate rescue and relief operations in case of any eventuality. We have already begun reviewing ongoing work related to the tracks, with all departments, including power and sanitation, actively involved. Micro-planning has been initiated, covering all service providers who facilitate the Yatra, including registration and RFID card systems. A detailed review of these arrangements has been conducted, and directions issued by the Lieutenant Governor are being implemented to ensure a smoother and more convenient experience for all pilgrims. These review processes will continue regularly.
