Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata defeated&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/live-updates-ipl-2019-rajasthan-royals-vs-kolkata-knight-riders-208582">Rajasthan by eight wickets</a> at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday.&nbsp;

Openers Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn tore the Rajasthan bowling attack to shreds to help Kolkata notch up an easy eight-wicket win.

Chasing 140 for a win, Narine (47) and Lynn (50) shared 91 runs for the opening stand in 8.3 overs to take the game away from Rajasthan as Kolkata reached the target with 6.1 overs to spare.&nbsp;

The win, which took Kolkata&nbsp;to the top of the table with eight points from five matches (4 wins and 1 loss), was the best of this season in terms of number of balls to spare.&nbsp;

Narine contributed 47, his best of this IPL season, from 25 balls from which he hit six fours and three sixes while Lynn made an exact 50 from 32 deliveries, with the help of six boundaries and three sixes.

Earlier,&nbsp;Australian batsman Steve&nbsp;Smith struck his first half-century of this IPL season as he remained not out on 73 off 59 deliveries after the home side were invited to bat on a tricky track.&nbsp;

The former Australia captain hit seven fours and one six in his unbeaten knock.&nbsp;

He shared 72 runs in 10.4 overs with opener Jos Buttler (37 off 34 balls) for the second wicket after captain Ajinkya Rahane was out cheaply for 5 in the second over.&nbsp;

On a slow track at the Sawai Man Singh stadium, the runs were a premium as the ball did not come on to the bat easily.

The stadium was also engulfed by a sandstorm before the tie but the match started on time.

IPL 2019: Karthik's Kolkata beat Rahane-led Rajasthan by 8 wickets

Rajasthan might have lost four out of five matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League but captain Ajinkya Rahane feels there is no need to hit the panic button just yet.&nbsp;

After restricting <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2019-karthiks-kolkata-beat-ajinkya-led-rajasthan-by-8-wickets-208643">Rajasthan to 139 for 3 in 20 overs</a>, Kolkata's Sunil Narine (47) and Chris Lynn (50) tore their bowling attack to shreds, sharing 91 runs for the opening stand in 8.3 overs to reach the target with 6.1 overs to spare.&nbsp;

"I think there's no need for us to panic yet. Out of the five matches that we played, we lost badly in just one game. We played well in our last four matches, out of which we could have won three," Rahane said at the post-match press conference.&nbsp;

"When you're losing, you can risk overthinking. But when you're winning, you don't dwell on things that much.&nbsp;

"It's not too late for us. If we can improve and apply ourselves, the desired results will surely follow," he added.&nbsp;

Rahane said that the batsmen need to stay longer at the crease and take calculated risks, while bowlers are expected to quickly get the hang of the wicket and execute the plans accordingly.&nbsp;

"Execution is the key for us as a batting and bowling unit. Risk is an integral part of the T20 format and players need to often back themselves. It's not the responsibility of an individual, but rather the whole team. We win as a team, we lose as a team. We need to improve as a team.&nbsp;

"The set batsmen need to stay on the crease longer and take the game deeper, while also taking calculated risks. Similarly, the bowlers need to execute their plans based on the understanding of the wicket, and by observing the difficulties that the batsmen are facing with regards to playing any shots," he explained.&nbsp;

Rahane said 150-160 would have been a fighting total against Kolkata here on Sunday night.&nbsp;

"It was important for us to post 150-160 on board, which we felt would be a challenging total on that wicket. We struggled to get to 140, which is possibly a learning for the bowling unit. While playing at home, we need to adjust to the wicket as soon as possible, while also being aware of the correct line and length that is to be bowled.&nbsp;

A ball from Dhawal Kulkarni got an inside edge off Lynn to hit the stumps but did not dislodge the bails. In fact, the ball travelled past the boundary ropes and was awarded a boundary in favour of the batsman.

Rahane said he had approached the umpire and asked him to declare it a dead ball but to no avail. &nbsp;

"The rules are rules. Having said that, maybe the boundary could have not been counted or it could have been called a dead ball. The game is already heavily tilted in the favour of batsmen. That was my conversation with the umpire. Though, there is no point of discussing aspects that we cannot control," he said. &nbsp;

Rahane backed all-rounder Ben Stokes, who during his 22-minute uncomfortable stay at the crease scored just 7 off 14 balls, to come good in the upcoming games.&nbsp;

"Ben has been a vital cog for us and he has an impact on match but unfortunately it did not happen this time. The way he bowled in the last match and has been batting I don't feel his selection for this match was wrong. I am sure he would be performing in the coming matches too. &nbsp;

"As a team we have to back our players. It is not that any particular player is to perform in every match," he insisted.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Kolkata debutant Harry Gurney was happy to be declared the man of the match.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Asked whether he had expected it to be so easy, Gurney said, "When I was told that I would be playing I was a bit nervous because it was my debut but I am happy to give a decent performance and look forward to rest of the competition."&nbsp;

No need to panic yet: Rajasthan skipper Ajinkya Rahane

Chris Gayle hit a belligerent half-century as Punjab registered a convincing 14-run win over Rajasthan in a controversial Indian Premier League match here Monday.

Opening the innings, Gayle started in an uncharacteristic fashion but grew in confidence as the innings progressed and helped Punjab post a challenging 184 for four after being sent into bat.

Gayle scored 79 off 47 balls and hit eight boundaries and four sixes in the process. Besides Gayle, young Sarfaraz Khan (46 not out off 29 balls) also played a good hand.

Chasing the stiff target, Jos Buttler (69) and skipper Ajinkya Rahane (27) got Rajasthan off to a brisk start, dealing in boundaries and sixes to pile up 64 runs in the first six overs of powerplay.

Buttler, in particular, looked in a destructive mood as he didn't spare a single Kings bowler and struck eight boundaries and two hits over the fence to notch up his fifty in just 29 balls.

Buttler and Rahane shared 78 runs in eight overs for the opening stand before the Rajasthan skipper was cleaned up by his Punjab counterpart Ravichandran Ashwin.

Buttler was going strong in the company of Sanju Samson (30) as they duo batted sensibly to keep Rajasthan in the hunt.

But just when it seemed Kings XI were running out of ideas, skipper Ashwin did the unthinkable as Buttler became the first victim of 'Mankading' in the history of IPL.

A desperate Ashwin mankaded Buttler in controversial circumstances in the 13th over with Rajasthan scoreboard reading 108 for two.

At that stage Buttler was going strong at 69 off 43 balls. The dismissal is sure to raise fresh debate over the spirit of the game as Ashwin didn't give the Englishman a prior warning.&nbsp;

As expected Buttler seemed furious and had a heated exchange with Ashwin before leaving the field after the third umpire ruled him out.

That dismissal completely changed the complexion of the match in favour of Kings XI as Steve Smith (20), Samson, Ben Stokes and Rahul Tripathy departed in quick succession in search of quick runs.

From there on, it proved to be an uphill task for Rajasthan as they needed 27 off the last two overs with six wickets down.

Earlier, Rajasthan's decision to bowl first on a two-paced wicket was bang on target as K L Rahul lasted just four balls before edging an outgoing Dhawal Kulkarni delivery to wicketkeeper Buttler, who took a brilliant one-handed catch.

Gayle and Mayank Agarwal (22) then struggled to hit big shots against Kings XI's disciplined bowling as they garnered just 32 runs in the powerplay overs.

The duo finally broke their shackles, hitting Jaydev Unadkat for a four and six to yield 13 runs of the bowler's opening over.

Gayle then opened up his arms again and hit Krishnappa Gowtham for a maximum in the first ball of the ninth over.

But Gowtham broke the 54-run stand between Gayle and Agarwal after the latter was holed out a long-off by Kulkarni.

Brought back into the attack in the 12th over, Unadkat was taken to the cleaners by Gayle as he hit the left-arm pacer for three consecutive fours and then a straight six over the bowler's head to bring up his fifty in 33 balls.

Unadkat's second over, that produced 17 runs, opened the floodgates for Kings as Sarfaraz too joined the party and together with Gayle punished the bad deliveries.

After playing cautiously initially, Gayle went on a rampage, stood on his crease and clobbered Stokes (2/48) for two boundaries and six before being holed out at midwicket fence by Tripathi in the fifth ball of the same over.

Gayle and Sarfaraz added 84 runs for the third wicket and in the process gave Punjab&nbsp;the much-needed momentum.

After Gayle's dismissal, Sarfaraz took the onus on himself and took Kings XI past the 180-run mark.&nbsp;

Chris Gayle's fifty hands Punjab 14-run win over Rajasthan as Ashwin sparks

The 2008 champions of Indian Premier League is expected to raise their game in the upcoming edition of India's annual cricket carnival which will kick off from March 23.

Rajasthan Royals have made very smart choices when they purchased players like Jaydev Unadkat, Oshane Thomas, Varun Aaron etc.

They already had a well-balanced squad, when they retained Ajinkya Rahane, Krishnappa Gowtham, Sanju Samson, Stuart Binny, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Ish Sodhi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mahipal Lomror and few more.

RR made a return in IPL 2018 after completing a two-year ban but suffered a huge set back when their star player and skipper Steve Smith was banned from participating in IPL because of his involvement in a ball-tampering scandal that rocked the cricketing world.

In the absence of Smith, Ajinkya Rahane stepped up and lead the team but as a player, he failed to deliver with his bat.

Same goes with Ben Stokes, who was last season's most expensive buy, ended up as an unprofitable asset.

Also, Sanju Samson who failed last year despite starting the season as one of the orange cap contenders but keeping his performances in previous seasons in mind, it is very evident that Samson has potential.

But Jos Buttler, who made crucial contributions to the team and stepped up at various instances in last season, is expected to do it again.

Buttler has been consistent with his performance for the England cricket team.

Batting department this time is strengthened with the presence of Steve Smith as he is expected to raise his game for Royals.

Playing for Rajasthan Royals will be a huge thing for Smith as this is the only cricket he will be playing before World Cup, where he will make an international comeback.

Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith are key players in the batting unit.

Followed by Ben Stokes, Aston Turner in the mid, however, players like Jaydev Unadkat and Varun Aaron need to deliver to cut pressure off main batsmen as and when required.

However, Australia's&nbsp;rising sensation Ashton Turner is unavailable for first three games for Royals due to international commitment against Pakistan.

In the bowling unit, Royals have two good spinners which are Shreyas Gopal and K Gowtham and their combination might prove lethal.

Jofra Archer, who is doing well in England's domestic set up, will lead the pace attack along with the new buy Oshane Thomas.

But the lack of backup bowling options is a major threat for the team.

Players like Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Ashton Turner will look to deliver their level best considering the World Cup looming in.

Royals finished fourth last season and have the potential to make a come back and emerge as an unlikely hero.

Here is the squad list:

Retained: Ajinkya Rahane, Krishnappa Gowtham, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Gopal, Aryaman Birla, S Midhun, Prashant Chopra, Stuart Binny, Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Ish Sodhi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mahipal Lomror

It helps to be agile on the field," Rohit Sharma told BCCI.tv. "One interesting fact is, along with all the colours, the dates when we won the first World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and our second 50-over World Cup winning date in Mumbai." "[That is] rare and it is pretty nice and good looking."

Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Harmanpreet Kaur launch team India's new jersey

Ajinkya Rahane's last one-day international appearance was over a year ago but India's test vice-captain still hopes to make the cut for the World Cup squad and has implored the selectors to give him chances "more consistently" in the 50-over format.

An industrious accumulator in a crowd of power-hitters, the 30-year-old has been ignored for the shorter formats though he is an automatic selection in the test team.

Rahane, who has a strike rate of 78.63 in ODIs, can score with proper cricketing shots but is perceived as someone who lacks the muscle power to excel as a lower-order slogger.

"As a batsman, I am aggressive but by nature, I am quite shy. I prefer to let my bat speak but sometimes it's important to speak the truth," Rahane, who is leading Mumbai in India's domestic Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 competition, told local media.

"I have always believed the team comes first and respected the management and the selectors' decision. I will continue to do that. But in the end, it is important that your performance is recognised.

"The point is that if as a player I have always played for the team, then I deserve chances more consistently. That’s the least I am asking."

Rahane registered a player-of-the-series performance in West Indies in 2017 and also scored four consecutive fifties against Australia at home later that year.

But he was then asked to step down the batting order in South Africa in early 2018 as India went with the top three of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli.

"I also believe that my performances were really good. If you see the last three-four series, my average was around 45 to 50," he said. "After I was dropped, I went back to domestic cricket and feel I have done reasonably well.

"I have never thought about my personal achievements. I did well as an opener against West Indies and Australia but in South Africa, the management thought I would be suitable at No. 4.

"I said 'whatever you prefer' because the team wanted it. But every individual needs confidence and positive vibes like 'yes, you are there and you are doing it for the team'."

Time is running out for the Mumbai batsman who has been left out of the squad for the five-match ODI series against Australia, the last India will play before embarking on their World Cup campaign in England and Wales.

Chief selector M.S.K. Prasad recently said Rahane was still part of India's World Cup plans and the cricketer is not giving up yet.

"It feels good that I am being considered. But at the same time, you need to get a chance," said Rahane, who has played 90 ODIs for India and has three hundreds and 24 fifties.

"Playing the World Cup is a dream every cricketer cherishes. I do respect the selectors and team management's performances and I think I deserve a chance.

"I am very much hopeful. Like I said, I keep negative thoughts away and you never know, things can change any time."

IND vs AUS: Ajinkya Rahane seeks consistent ODI chances

Indian cricket team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on Monday said his rhythm and counter-attacking mindset could help him slam a century or double century at the Boxing Day Test, starting Wednesday.&nbsp;

Rahane has so far hit two fifties in his 164 runs from the first two Tests but a three-figure score is yet to be seen coming from his bat. He last scored a century against Sri Lanka in Colombo last year.

While speaking to the media, Rahane said, "I am sure it will come in this match. The way I am batting, from Adelaide to Perth, the mindset I was in to counter-attack and the rhythm I was batting in, maybe 100 or even 200 can come,"&nbsp;

However, the 30-year-old soon added that personal milestones can be achieved later as well.

"I think it is more important for me not to think about it. I have to continue batting the way I am. I can read the situation a bit better and if I can play like that it will be better for the team. Personal milestones can be achieved later as well."

"I am really happy (to return here for Boxing Day Test). We all know how big it is and to come here at 1-1 is really good. We had our chances in Perth but it is important to stay in the present right now and give our best starting from December 26," he concluded.

After defeating Australia in the first test, India lost the second by a huge margin of 146 runs, where Virat Kohli and his men were dismissed for a mere 140 in the second innings.&nbsp;

When asked what changes he would want to see in the team for the third Test, Rahane said the batting unit needs to step up and support the bowlers if they are to win consistently overseas.&nbsp;

India are currently tied 1-1 with the hosts in the four-match Test series.&nbsp;

May score '100 or even 200' in Boxing Day Test, says Ajinkya Rahane

Former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi praised Ajinkya Rahane for his attacking unbeaten half-century Saturday in the second Test against Australia at Perth.

"Ajinkya Rahane played a superb knock (51 not out) today. Absolutely brilliant...The captain (Virat Kohli) and the vice-captain (Rahane) were complementing each other. It was a lovely sight and today was very absorbing cricket," Bedi said.

"This sort of cricket cannot be replaced by any other gimmick -- whether it is T20 or I don't know -- 100 balls (cricket)," said the 72-year-old Bedi at the Bombay Gymkhana here.

Kohli played a pivotal role with a responsible knock of 82 not out, lifting India from a double blow at the beginning of their innings to 172 for three in the company of Rahane.

Bedi refrained from commenting on whether it was the best chance for India to win a Test series in Australia.

"We can only find out after the end of the series. I don't want to be a predictor," the great left-arm slow bowler and member of the famous Indian spin quartet said.

At the event, Bedi was in conversation with former Mumbai skipper Shishir Hattangadi to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the first Test match played in India from December 15 to 18, 1933 at the Gymkhana.

During the conversation, Bedi praised the work done by Justice R M Lodha, whose panel suggested a slew of reforms in cricket administration, most of which were incorporated by the Supreme Court.

"....The work done by Justice Lodha -- to my mind he is deserving (of the) highest honour of the country," he said.&nbsp;

Bedi praises Rahane's Perth knock, says T20 can't replace this

Australia Test skipper Tim Paine has questioned the decision review system, saying it has been "frustrating" to deal with the technology that is "not a perfect system".

Australia endured some frustrating moments during their 31-run loss to India in the first Test when a few decisions went against the hosts after reviewing the umpires calls.

Umpire Nigel Llong had given Ajinkya Rahane out caught at bat-pad for 17 early on Sunday but the decision was overturned on review when replays indicated that the ball had hit the batsman's front pad outside the line of off stump and missed his bat and gloves.

Similarly, Cheteshwar Pujara, who had scored a gritty 123 in the first innings, was adjudged out on eight and 17 to Lyon on Saturday but the dismissals were overturned.

Replays found no contact with bat or gloves in his first dismissal and the second one was overruled as ball tracking suggested that the ball would have gone over the bails.

"Look, it's (DRS) not a perfect system and I haven't got the answers. It's just frustrating, I'd imagine it's frustrating for everyone. But it is what it is," Paine was quoted as saying in the 'Sydney Morning Herald'.

The Australian skipper initially said the calls had been "interesting," then when later asked why DRS was interesting, he said: "I think everything. I don't want to talk about DRS. It's just - it is what it is.

"A lot of balls seem to be going over the top of the stumps, I know that, that live don't look like they are. So yeah, it is what it is."

In Australia's second innings, Aaron Finch was caught in close to off-spinner R Ashwin but he didn't use the DRS after consulting partner Marcus Harris.

Reviews suggested that the ball had not touched the gloves and later third umpire Chris Gaffaney informed Nathan Lyon there was not enough evidence to overturn the decision.

Paine said: "It's one of those things. You can't do much about it. We've been told Aaron's, for instance, would still not have been overturned. Yeah, the DRS is interesting.

"It's a bit different when the batters are out there, it's up to those two, isn't it? Aaron felt something on his glove, it ended up being his pad, that can happen.

"From a bowling and in-the-field perspective, we've got a process we go through with myself and the bowler. Nathan Lyon's at point a lot, he gives us an indication of height. You have to take everyone's piece of information and make good decisions. We got a couple wrong but that can happen."

Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was against the usage of DRS in Tests and India avoided the technology for eight years after its introduction in Test cricket in 2008.

But after Virat Kohli became the captain, India agreed to the use of DRS in 2016.&nbsp;

Paine also backed pacer Mitchell Starc to <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/perth-will-suit-australia-more-than-india-ponting-183122">rediscover his best in the bouncy tracks of Perth in the second Test</a> after the opening Test where he didn't look menacing despite taking five wickets.

"When Starcy's on song, there is no better bowler in the world, particularly with the new ball," Paine told cricket.Com.Au.

"In Perth, the conditions will suit him down to the ground ... From what I am hearing, the wicket is going to be really fast so he'll be a handful."

Paine admitted Starc was not at his best at Adelaide but acknowledged his role in the team.

"He didn't set the world on fire but I think, for a long time, there's been a really big gap between Starcy's best and his worst," Paine said.

"And from what I'm seeing, that is getting closer and closer every day. Was he at his best? Probably not. But I still thought he played his role."

Brought together before tea with India vulnerable at 76 for two, the pair stood firm through the best part of a session before spinner Nathan Lyon snared Kohli for 34 to end their 71-run stand at Adelaide Oval.

Lyon was denied Pujara's wicket twice by the Decision Review System, so his Kohli breakthrough was a relief after a long afternoon's toil.

Deceiving the Indian talisman with flight and dip, he caught Kohli's inside edge and the nick popped up to Aaron Finch at short leg.

INDvsAUS, 1st Test, Day 4: Pujara, Rahane resume game

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and paceman Mohammed Shami combined to tear through <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/india-vs-australia-2018-19-schedule-teams-time-and-venue-177740">Australia</a>'s top order and bring India within six wickets of victory in the series-opening Test on Sunday.

Shaun Marsh was 31 not out and Travis Head on 11, the pair fighting a desperate rearguard action to nudge Australia to 104 for four at stumps on day four, still 219 runs short of their victory target of 323.

Australia will need to defy history to chase down the total and survive the wiles of Ashwin on a fifth-day pitch.

The highest successful run chase was in 1902, when the hosts scored 315 for six to beat England.

Since the second World War, no team has bettered West Indies' 239 for five to defeat Australia by five wickets in 1982.

Having bowled India out for 307 after lunch, with spinner Nathan Lyon taking six wickets, Australia's openers proceeded to 28 without loss before Ashwin broke through.

The spinner dismissed Aaron Finch in bizarre circumstances, the opener given out caught for 11 after a fuller delivery pitched, pinged off his pad and whistled by his glove.

Finch conferred with fellow opener Marcus Harris then declined to review the decision, trudging off as the technology showed no clear evidence that he had gloved the ball.

Opener Harris and number three Usman Khawaja were soon living dangerously.

Harris, on 14, flashed his bat at Shami's fifth ball after tea and nicked behind to the slips where a diving Cheteshwar Pujara put a difficult chance down.

The debutant was eventually out for a second successive 26, edging through to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant with another aggressive swipe at Shami.

Pinned down by Ashwin, Khawaja tried to break the shackles with aggression but skied a catch to Rohit Sharma in the deep to fall for a scratchy eight from 42 balls.

Handscomb was given a life on 13, a half-chance put down by Lokesh Rahul in close after he smashed Ashwin hard into the fielder's hands.

He squandered the reprieve, adding only one run before lobbing a miscued pull to Pujara at midwicket, with Shami making the breakthrough.

India's celebrations were tempered moments later when fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah hurt his left shoulder while fielding and promptly exited the ground with the team physio.

Marsh rode his luck, all but chopping Shami onto his stumps with 10 overs to play.

Australia will hope the number four can bring his Sheffield Shield form on day five, having scored an unbeaten 163 as Western Australia chased down 313 in the fourth innings to beat South Australia in the most recent match at the venue.

India had earlier blown a chance to bat Australia out of the match with a quick and shambolic collapse after lunch.

Having resumed on 260 for five in complete control, the tourists lost their last four wickets for four runs in a panicky bout of tail-end slogging.

Hard-hitting wicketkeeper Pant was out for 28 blasting Lyon into the deep, before Ashwin pulled Mitchell Starc straight to Harris at deep backward point to fall for five.

Having compiled a patient 70, Ajinkya Rahane caught his teammates' disease and reverse-swept Lyon straight to Starc.

The offspinner claimed tailender Shami for a duck the next ball to finish with 6-122, having dismissed Pujara for 71 before lunch and Kohli (34) late on day three.

Starc (3-40) wrapped up India's innings with a short ball removing Ishant for a duck.

INDvsAUS, 1st Test, Day 4: India sniff victory after Australia collapse in Adelaide

He could be in line for a Test debut against West Indies but Prithvi Shaw shouldn't curb his attacking style of batsmanship provided he gets the nod, feels India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane.&nbsp;

"I am happy for Shaw. I have seen him since his young days, we used to practice together, he is an attacking opener and done well for India A and got the reward," he said.

Rahane, however, didn't commit on who among Prithvi and Mayank Agarwal will partner KL Rahul in the opening Test in Rajkot, starting October 4.

"Personally we don't know the combination what we are going to play. But there is no pressure, it is an opportunity for every individual to express ourselves. I wish him good luck and I am sure he will do well. I just want him to play as he has been doing for Mumbai and India A and I think he will be fine," Rahane said.

"It is a good opportunity particularly for youngsters like Prithivi, Mayank and Siraj as they have all done well in domestic cricket. So as a batsman they can score runs, as a bowler they can pick wickets. It is all about going out there and giving your best without thinking much about future," he added.

After a disappointing outing in England, Rahane lead Mumbai to victories over Baroda, Karnataka and Railways in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last month and he said it provided him good match practice ahead of the West Indies series.

"After coming back from England, I was just looking to do well for Mumbai at that point of time and get some match practice (although it was white ball cricket) ahead of the West Indies series. Vijay Hazare was a good match practice for me," said Rahane.&nbsp;

"I always believe whether it is a domestic, international or practice match, it brings a different pressure and I think it helped me to prepare. I am really confident and looking forward to do well and keep contributing towards my team."

India will need to quickly adapt to the different yet familiar home conditions at home to dominate the two-Test series against West Indies, feels the Indian vice-captain.

India had failed to bring their best in English conditions, losing the five-Test series 1-4 last month.

"Here we have to see how the wicket behaves, it is hot here, so we have to adapt to the conditions quickly during the practice sessions," Rahane said.

"We know the Indian conditions and we know how to go about our job and what shots to play here. England was different, so we will have to quickly mentally switch.

"Each and every match is equally important and we are just looking to play to our standards, rather than thinking about our opponents. It is important to start off well, we have two practice sessions before the Test match starts," he added.

The 30-year-old Mumbaikar said the focus of the team is to improve its own game without thinking about their opponents.

"It was a great achievement to win Asia Cup and players, who got an opportunity there did well, but this is a new series and we can't take them lightly. We have to focus to improve our own game," said Rahane.

"No matter whom we play, whether it is Australia, England or West Indies, it is important to improve our own standard. Our goal will be to play some good cricket, definitely to dominate from the first match and improvement as a batsman, as a bowler and as a team, that would be the focus."

IPL 2018: Ajinkya Rahane opts to bat against Bangalore

Rajasthan locked horns with Dinesh Karthik-led side yesterday at Eden Gardens and lost by six wickets to be placed at number four in the IPL league table.

Upset with the loss, skipper Ajinkya Rahane slammed the batting line-up and said they failed to make it because of their batting.

"We lost because of our batting, even in the tournament we did not bat that well. Except Jos Buttler... his consistency was good to see. So many things the boys can learn from him. We thought 175-180 was a par score on this wicket," Rahane said.

Openers Rahul Tripathi and Jos Buttler gave Rajasthan a magnificent start but the downline failed to capitalise the start and succumbed to Kolkata's bowling attack.

"The thing is, start which we got with Rahul Tripathi and Jos Buttler that was magnificient... but I feel after that we did not get any partnership. It's not about any individual," Rahane said.&nbsp;

"We lost because we did not apply ourselves in the middle and we needed to get a partnership going, especially when you get a start like that you have to back yourself. (You need) to apply your mind even in T20 cricket," he added.

However, Rahane still believes his team can make it to the play-offs.

"We have to believe in ourselves. It's not about hoping but believing in your ability. Anything can happen in cricket, we all know that. It's a funny game. We have to learn from our mistake, we have just one league game left, if we can learn from this game and stay positive... we were too positive with our batting tonight but that's the way it goes."

Rahane was sent back to the pavilion after being clean-bowled by Kuldeep Yadav for just 11 runs.

Yadav bowled a fantastic spell and took four wickets to end Rajasthan's inning for mere 142 runs.

Openers Rahul Tripathi and Jos Buttler gave Rajasthan a magnificent start but the downline failed to capitalise the start and succumbed to Kolkata's bowling attack. "The thing is, start which we got with Rahul Tripathi and Jos Buttler that was magnificient... but I feel after that we did not get any partnership. It's not about any individual," Rahane said. We have to learn from our mistake, we have just one league game left, if we can learn from this game and stay positive... we were too positive with our batting tonight but that's the way it goes." Rahane was sent back to the pavilion after being clean-bowled by Kuldeep Yadav for just 11 runs. Yadav bowled a fantastic spell and took four wickets to end Rajasthan's inning for mere 142 runs.

Hyderabad take on Rajasthan in the first match of IPL super Sunday on April 29 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.

Rajasthan, sitting at the mid of the points table would look to earn two crucial points tonight.

Whereas, Hyderabad is currently placed at number two&nbsp;and have gained the required momentum&nbsp;and skipper Kane Williamson would never want to lose it.

We have seen that Rajasthan were on their way to suffer back-to-back defeats before a superb cameo from all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham helped them to defeat Mumbai by three wickets last Sunday.

Also, with his explosive hitting, the immensely talented Sanju Samson is turning out to be Rajasthan's batting mainstay. It will interesting to see how Rajasthan's batting side will face Rashid Khan, the spin sensation of Hyderabad.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is still struggling with back injury issue but it does not seem to have affected Hyderabad too much as Basil Thampi and Sandeep Sharma have given the required strength to the team.

On the other hand, Ajinkya would not want to make any changes in the playing XI unless there is an injury issue.
