Nagaland assembly elections:Nagaland Assembly Elections Results 2023: Exit polls for the Nagaland Elections were released on January 27. The exit results show that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will almost certainly form the government in the state. Nagaland votes on February 16 for 60 Assembly seats. Various news channels predict 39-49 seats for the BJP and zero for the Congress, with the Naga People’s Front only expected to get between four and eight. Between seven and 17 seats are expected to head to independent candidates and those from smaller outfits, underlining the extent of the Congress’ loss. The counting of the votes will take place for all three states, Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya on Thursday, March 2.

The tenure of 13th Nagaland Assembly is scheduled to end on 12 March 2023.The previous assembly elections were held in February 2018. After the election, coalition of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and Bharatiya Janata Party formed the state government, with Neiphiu Rio becoming Chief Minister.BJP severed ties with its local ally, Naga People's Front to form the government despite NPF emerging as the single largest party.

A voter turnout of over 75.49 per cent was reported in Nagaland till 3 pm on Monday, February 27.Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is seeking re-election for a second consecutive term, exuded confidence that the NDPP-BJP alliance would return to power with a massive mandate. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP are contesting the polls on a 40:20 seat-sharing arrangement in the 60-seat Assembly. The Congress, which ruled the state till 2003 and does not have any members in the current House, has fielded 23 aspirants.
