Indian-American Aruna Miller, seeking to enter the US House of Representatives from a Congressional seat in Maryland, has emerged as one of the top fundraisers, days ahead of the crucial Democratic primary.

Hyderabad-born Miller, 53, a civil engineer and a Maryland State Delegate, came to the US in 1972 when she was seven.

She is vying to enter the House of Representatives -- the lower chamber of the US Congress -- from a Maryland suburb of Washington DC. The Senate is the upper chamber.

Miller is pitted against party colleague David Trone in the Democratic party for the sixth Congressional District of Maryland primary.

The winner of the June 26 primary election is expected to easily sail through given that it is considered to be a Democratic stronghold.

If elected, Miller would be the second Indian-American woman to enter the House of Representatives after Pramila Jayapal from Washington State.

"In the year of the woman, can a USD 10 million man win a House seat?" asked The Washington Post this week as the Miller vs Trone race attracted nationwide attention.

Businessman Trone has spent more of his own money on a House race than any other candidate in history.

This is because Trone has spend USD 10 million of his own money in the race, as against Miller's USD 1.36 million, which has come from generous contributions from her supporters.

Days ahead of the crucial Maryland Democratic primary, Miller exuded confidence that her surging support from the people of the sixth Congressional district would be dissuaded by the money power, and help her get on the November Congressional ballot and finally enter the House next January.

"The race is an opportunity for Democrats to elect a woman to Maryland's all-male congressional delegation," the Post said.

A civil engineer by profession, Miller, who speaks fluent Telugu, came to the US in 1972 when she was seven.

Known for her great legislative skills, she was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2010.

"I think the rhetoric that's happening at the national level about immigrants being demonised and marginalised... This resonates with a lot of people because many of us have come here as immigrants to this great nation. Diversity is not our problem. It's our promise," Miller told PTI.

"I think that's what spurred a lot of people to wake up and say, wow, I need to take an active role in what's happening in our country," said Miller.

She has received tremendous support from Indian-Americans in Maryland and across the nation.

Latest figures, as released by the Federal Election Commission, indicate that she has raised more than USD 1.36 million for the Democratic primary.

"The first thing, or one of the most important things to be able to do if I got elected to the US Congress, is to make sure we fix the broken immigration system right now.

"We need to have a pathway to citizenship. And this is for undocumented immigrants that are here, working hard, try to make ends meet and playing a part in our economy," she said.

Forty per cent of the undocumented immigrants that are in this country are ones that have overstayed their visas, whether it's H-1B visa, student visa, and they're living in the shadows right now. All they want to do is to contribute to this great country, she said.

"We need to have a pathway to citizenship. We need to make sure that those on H-1B visas are not on 15-20 years (wait for green card), where they become an indentured servant to the companies that they work at. We need to have a more streamlined process on how they can get their green card and become a citizen as well," she said.

Miller, a great advocate for strong India-US ties, accompanied the then Maryland governor to India as a Maryland State delegate.

"It is critical that the largest democracy and the oldest democracy have a strong bond together. I'll continue to work on that," Miller said.

Early this month, she was endorsed by 'Desis for Progress', an organisation of progressive South Asians who are striving to create a better community.

According to reports, Telangana tops all states in the country when it comes to the growth rate in state tax revenues with 17.6 per cent growth rate from June 2014 to May 2018.

Telangana has registered the highest growth rate of 17.6 per cent, a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General stated. Haryana stood second at 14.2 per cent, Maharashtra with 13.9 per cent came third. Odisha came fourth with 12.4 per cent and West Bengal stood at the fifth spot with 10.3 per cent growth rate.

Telangana recorded 13.7 per cent tax revenue growth rate during 2015-16, 21.1 per cent during 2016-17 and 16.8 per cent during 2017-18.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao attributed the growth rate to progressive fiscal policies, fiscal discipline, among other measures taken to achieve the impressive result despite the adverse effects of demonetization and GST on state's finances.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,343.44 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1,105.76 crore on Friday, as per provisional data.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng weakened 0.49 per cent while Japan's Nikkei lost 0.34 per cent in early trade. Shanghai Composite Index, however, moved up 0.17 per cent.

US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.49 per cent higher on Friday.&nbsp

Madhya Pradesh: Dalit man allegedly thrashed for riding motorcycle

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday moved a special court in Mumbai seeking diamond jeweller Nirav Modi's extradition. Nirav Modi emerges at the centre of a multi-billion money laundering case involving the Punjab National Bank.

Last week, the Mumbai court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Nirav Modi after taking cognizance of the charge sheet.&nbsp;

According to reports, the extradition has been sought by an agency in the UK, Belgium and a few other countries.

The extradition has been sought on the basis of a charge sheet recently filed by the agency against Nirav Modi and his family under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

As per reports, Nirav has been continuously changing his location across the globe. The request for the extradition has been made to multiple countries as part of a mandate under Criminal Provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, PTI reported.&nbsp;

On June 24, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) issued an arrest warrant against Nirav Modi after he was caught in a diversion of duty-free imported goods, Cut-and-Polished Diamonds (CPDs) and pearls.&nbsp;

The agency has discovered that Modi's three companies — Firestar International, Firestar Diamond International and Radashir Jewellery — indulged in a total diversion of duty-free goods was found to be Rs 1,205 crore.&nbsp;

The Punjab National Bank (PNB), India's second-biggest state-controlled lender, has previously alleged that a handful of staff at a single Mumbai branch issued fake bank guarantees over several years to help two jewellery groups - controlled by Indian diamond magnate Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi - raise billions of dollars in foreign credit and commit India's biggest-ever bank fraud.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday moved a special court in Mumbai seeking diamond jeweller Nirav Modi's extradition. Nirav Modi emerges at the centre of a multi-billion money laundering case involving the Punjab National Bank. Last week, the Mumbai court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Nirav Modi after taking cognizance of the charge sheet. According to reports, the extradition has been sought by an agency in the UK, Belgium and a few other countries. The extradition has been sought on the basis of a charge sheet recently filed by the agency against Nirav Modi and his family under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). As per reports, Nirav has been continuously changing his location across the globe. The request for the extradition has been made to multiple countries as part of a mandate under Criminal Provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, PTI reported. On June 24, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) issued an arrest warrant against Nirav Modi after he was caught in a diversion of duty-free imported goods, Cut-and-Polished Diamonds (CPDs) and pearls. The agency has discovered that Modi's three companies — Firestar International, Firestar Diamond International and Radashir Jewellery — indulged in a total diversion of duty-free goods was found to be Rs 1,205 crore. The Punjab National Bank (PNB), India's second-biggest state-controlled lender, has previously alleged that a handful of staff at a single Mumbai branch issued fake bank guarantees over several years to help two jewellery groups - controlled by Indian diamond magnate Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi - raise billions of dollars in foreign credit and commit India's biggest-ever bank fraud. According to reports, an Army officer accidentally shot himself from his personal firearm in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Colonel JV Mahadik succumbed to injuries after his personal weapon went off accidentally. He was travelling in a vehicle in Khundroo area of Anantnag district when the accident happened, a defence spokesman reported.

"In an unfortunate incident Col J V Mahadik (Corps of Artillery) posted at Station Headquarters, Khundroo, succumbed to the injuries suffered due to accidental discharge of fire from his personal weapon while travelling in a vehicle," the spokesman said.

Jammu and Kashmir Army officer dies in accidental fire in Anantnag

With the imposition of Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, the government is expected to tighten the noose around Kashmiri separatist leaders who were allegedly involved in terror funding and money laundering, officials said today.

This would be done through coordinated action by the NIA and the ED, they said.

The issue was discussed threadbare at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and attended by Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Yogesh Chander Modi, Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Karnal Singh besides others.

A coordinated action is likely to be taken against the Kashmiri separatists who were allegedly involved in terror funding and money laundering, an official privy to the meeting said.

The meeting bears significance as it was held days after the central government imposed Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, and has started offensives against terrorists involved in subversive activities in the state.

The NIA had already filed a charge sheet in a Delhi court against terror masterminds Hafiz Saeed and Syed Salahuddin and 10 Kashmiri separatists in a case of alleged terror funding and secessionist activities in the Valley.

Besides Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen head Salahuddin, the other 10 persons accused in the final report include Hurriyat leader Syed Shah Geelani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmed Shah, Geelani's personal assistant Bashir Ahmad

Bhat, Aftab Ahmad Shah, media advisor and strategist of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Chairman of secessionist outfit National Front and Farooq Ahmad Dar, Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (R).&nbsp

Mohammad Akbar Khanday, media advisor of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (Geelani faction), Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal, office-bearer of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watal, a Hawala conduit and two stone-pelters - Kamran Yusuf and Javed Ahmad Bhat are also accused in the report.

The ED is actively investigating at least a dozen terror financing cases in Jammu and Kashmir under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

The ED had already framed charges against Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Shah and alleged Hawala dealer Muhammad Aslam Wani in a money laundering case.

Wani, arrested on August 6, 2017, had reportedly confessed that he passed on Hawala money amounting to Rs 2.25 crore to Shah.

Shah was arrested on July 25, 2017, on charges of money laundering in a case dating back to 2005 when the Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested Wani.

Government likely to go after Kashmiri separatists for 'terror funding', 'money laundering': Officials

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Sunday to enquire about the health conditions of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is undergoing treatment at the premier hospital.

The prime minister visited the hospital at around 9.05 pm and left after 15-20 minutes, according to a source at the AIIMS.

Though no fresh statement has been issued by the hospital on the health conditions of Vajpayee, sources had last week said he was showing improvement even though he continued to remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Cardio-thoracic Centre.

The 93-year-old BJP leader was admitted to the hospital on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, chest congestion and urine output on the lower side.

He was immediately evaluated by a team of doctors and put on injectable antibiotics.

Vajpayee, a diabetic, has one functional kidney. He had suffered a stroke in 2009 that weakened his cognitive abilities. Subsequently, he developed dementia.

Besides Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, BJP chief Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, former prime ministers Manmohan Singh and H D Deve Gowda, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and several chief ministers and Union ministers have visited the AIIMS since Vajpayee was admitted at the hospital.

Vajpayee was thrice elected as prime minister between 1996 and 1999 and is the only non-Congress prime minister to complete a full term of five years, from 1999 to 2004. As his health deteriorated, he slowly withdrew himself from public life and remained confined to his residence.

An Army Major, arrested for allegedly killing another officer’s wife, was today sent to four-day police custody by a Delhi court.

Metropolitan Magistrate Manisha Tripathy granted the custody of Major Nikhil Handa, who was produced before the court amid tight security, to the police which said he has to be taken to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh to make certain recoveries including his clothes and the weapon used to commit the crime.

“Since weapon of the offence (knife) used in committing the offence is to be recovered, clothes worn by the accused at the time of offence are to be recovered, the place from where the victim was picked up by the accused and route followed by the accused to the place of occurrence is to be ascertained, the persons contacted by the accused after commission of the crime are to be ascertained, the source of weapon of offence is to be established, the places where the accused visited after the commission of crime from Delhi to Meerut are to be ascertained, in my considered opinion, four days police custody is justified,” the magistrate said.

Handa was arrested yesterday from Meerut for his alleged involvement in the killing of another Major's wife in west Delhi on Saturday. The woman's body was found with her throat slit near the Brar Square in the Delhi Cantonment area.

During the arguments today, the police said it needed the custody of the accused to take him to Meerut and make recoveries.

Opposing the remand application, the counsel for the accused, advocate Sanjeev Sahai, argued that no investigation had been done by the police since Handa was arrested and said the recoveries which the police claimed to make, made no ground for his custody.

Initially, the police had not supplied the copy of the remand application and the FIR to the counsel of the accused, who sought them before the court. The court then directed that the copies of these documents be supplied to the accused.

According to the police, it had received information that a woman had died in an accident. Later, when they inspected the body, it was found that her throat was slit, the police has said.

The accused had allegedly run a car over her face and the body in order to make the incident appear as an accident, the police alleged.

The woman was dropped at the Army Base Hospital in her husband's official vehicle by a driver, who could not find her when he returned to pick her up later.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said that if they wish to keep secularism alive and strengthen democracy, then Muslims should vote for Muslims.&nbsp;

Owaisi was speaking in Hapur in UP, where a Muslim man — Qasim, 38 — was recently lynched and another — Shamiuddin, 65 — thrashed, allegedly over rumours of cows being slaughtered.&nbsp;

“Qasim's death will make us think. But I am not asking you to shed tears. I beckon your conscience to rise. These people talking about secularism are the biggest dacoits ... biggest opportunists. They used Muslims for 70 years, threatened us, forced us to keep quiet,” Owaisi said on Sunday.&nbsp;

“Now you need to fight for your rights. If you want secularism to stay alive, then fight for yourself. &nbsp;Become a political force to reckon with. Make sure your (Muslim) contenders win,” Owaisi added.&nbsp;

Owaisi went on to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “It is happening under your rule…is this your idea of sabka saath, sabka vikas?”&nbsp;

Owaisi also blamed UP Police saying they were "not only complicit but also aiding the scary atmosphere".&nbsp;

Eleven people were killed in rain and lightning-related incidents in the country, even as northern parts of India today reeled under hot-weather conditions.

Heavy showers pounded Mumbai and adjoining Thane district as Southwest Monsoon picked up momentum in the region.

Two persons were killed last evening after a tree fell on them in south Mumbai, an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's disaster management unit said today.

In Thane, a 13-year-old boy was killed and his parents were injured when a wall collapsed on their house at Wadol village around 2.15 am today, a regional disaster management cell official said.

Several vehicles were also damaged after walls collapsed in Thane and the metropolis.

In western India, heavy rains lashed several parts of south Gujarat, particularly Valsad, Surat and Navsari districts, causing water-logging and throwing normal life out of gear in the region.

However, no loss of life or any major damage to property due to the downpour was reported, officials said.

In West Bengal, five people were killed in lightning strikes and one drowned after heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms lashed the state this morning, a state disaster management official said.

He said a seven-year-old boy was killed in Purulia district and two others were killed in North 24 Parganas district due to lightning strikes.

The official said a woman and a man of South 24 Parganas district were also killed in lightning strikes.

In Cooch Behar district, an 18-year-old person drowned in Sutunga river in Mekhliganj during the rains, he added.

The flood situation in Assam saw slight improvement with waters in major rivers receding below the danger level, even as two persons reportedly drowned in the state's Cachar district, taking the death toll to 26.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said, a total population of 96,993 in five districts was reeling under the impact of flood, as against 1.94 lakh people in six districts yesterday.

The worst-hit district is Karimganj where 59,023 people have been affected, while the other districts hit by the current wave of floods are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Cachar and Hailakandi.

It was a hot day in Delhi with the mercury settling at 42.7 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 32.6 degrees Celsius, which was four notches above the normal, according to the meteorological (Met) department.

The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy skies and dust storm in the evening tomorrow.

Uttar Pradesh reeled under hot weather conditions and Banda was the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius.

However, the Met department has forecast rain or thunderstorm accompanied by squall at isolated parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next two days.

Denizens of Jammu grappled with blistering heat with the maximum and minimum temperatures being several notches above the normal.

The city recorded a high of 41.5 degrees Celsius and a low of 26.4 degrees Celsius, a spokesperson of the Met department said.

The maximum temperatures continued to hover above the normal at most places in Punjab and Haryana, including in Chandigarh, with Hisar once again turning out to be the hottest place in the two states at 43.7 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh, the common capital of Haryana and Punjab, recorded a maximum of 39.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal, a Met department report said.

In Rajasthan, heavy rainfall occurred at one or two places in the Udaipur division and normal showers were reported from isolated places across the state, a Met official said.

Kota registered 7 cm of rainfall , Deogarh 6 cm, and Jawaja and Banera towns 5 cms each.

Several places recorded 1 to 4 cm rainfall in the state.

Churu was the hottest place in the state with a maximum of 44.6 degrees Celsius.&nbsp;

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday said the state cabinet would be expended as soon as possible, reported news agency PTI.

"The coalition coordination and monitoring committee has decided to expand the ministry and appoint chairpersons or presidents at 30 boards and corporations of the government as soon as possible," he told reporters at Dharmasthala, a pilgrimage centre in Dakshin Kannada district.

Parameshwara said there is a need to expedite implementation of these two decisions to carry out work in the light of good monsoon the state has experienced so far. PTI added.&nbsp

"These decisions (cabinet expansion and appointment of chairpersons of boards and corporations ) should be implemented soon. Isn't it? There has been good rain here (Dakshin Kannada) and in our region too (Bengaluru) by God's grace. Even the weathermen are predicting good monsoon, and hence we may not face drought this year," he said.

On the issue of KPCC President, Parameshwara said the party High Command would announce the name of a suitable candidate at suitable time.&nbsp

Asked about his meeting with former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Dharmastahala, Parameshwara said it was just a coincidence and no political significance should be attached to it. "Since Siddaramaiah is our leader and it is our duty to meet him," he said.

Siddaramaiah is undergoing naturopathy treatment in Dharmasthala.

However, Parameshwara said he had discussed various political issues including budget and appointment of heads for corporations and boards yesterday.

Uber has come under major scrutiny after a woman from Mumbai reported an assault by a co-passenger during her ride on Monday.&nbsp;

The woman, Ushnota Paul, took to Twitter to describe the "worst experience" with her Uber pool ride on Monday morning when a co-passenger attacked her.&nbsp;

The woman first began arguing with the driver saying that she was being dropped last in spite of her paying the most amount of money. When Paul tried to intervene, she verbally abused her and passed racist comments.&nbsp;

Paul claimed that the woman was hostile from the start, first telling her to remove her "dirty things" from the seat&nbsp;and then calling her a "chinki" and "chinki s**t".&nbsp;

Later, when Paul tried to click her picture, she got down near Urmi Estate in Lower Parel and physically attacked her - grabbed her by her hair, tore off clumps of hair, scratched her face.&nbsp;

With the driver, a crying Paul visited Lower Parel police station. A case has been filed against the assaulter, who escaped into a building in Urmi Estate.&nbsp;

Uber, has replied to her tweet and issued an apology. "Thank you for providing this information. Our team is currently working to resolve this issue and will be in touch shortly via email. We appreciate your patience while we review," the tweet said.&nbsp;

However, Uber is refusing to provide details of the attacker to the Mumbai Police citing 'customer privacy'.

Mumbai: Uber user says co-passenger was racist, assaulted her

R Praggnanandhaa has become the country's youngest and the world's second youngest Grandmaster at the age of 12 years, 10 months and 13 days, after reaching the final round of the ongoing Grendine Open in Italy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Danny Faure said Monday that they had agreed "to work together on" the Assumption Island project.&nbsp;

Modi and Faure made a joint statement in Delhi today after talks between them.&nbsp;

"We have agreed to work together on the Assumption Island project based on each other's rights," PTI reported Modi as saying.&nbsp;

PTI quoted Faure as saying the Assumption Island project was discussed and that the two countries were equally engaged in working together bearing each other's interests in mind.&nbsp;

India and Seychelles had agreed to India building a naval facility on Seychelles' Assumption Island in 2015, but the deal has not moved forward because the Seychelles opposition has refused to ratify it.&nbsp;

Faure had landed in Gujarat on Friday as part of a six-day India tour. After visiting Ahmedabad and Goa, he arrived in Delhi yesterday.&nbsp;

In another apparent case of moral policing, a couple was allegedly beaten up night-long and the woman’s head shaved by villagers for having an illicit affair in Assam’s Nagaon district, police said Sunday. The incident took place at Jhumurmur Sunday and the critically injured couple was handed over to the police this morning, they said.

They were initially admitted to a local hospital at Kathiatoli, and later referred to the Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital at Nagaon, a police officer said. It is a third major incident in Assam this month where locals took law into their hands and thrashed people.

“The police were intimated by some people during morning hours. Our team rushed to the spot and the villagers handed over them to us. They were badly injured and were admitted to a hospital,” Nagaon district Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ripul Das said.

He said the police will register a case after preliminary investigation. A police officer from the local outpost said the incident happened when a man from the neighbouring Tubuki village visited the woman’s home at Jhumurmur village yesterday night.

“Villagers came out in large numbers and alleged that they were in an illicit relationship. The man tried to flee but was caught by the villagers. Then both of them were thrashed by the villagers,” the police officer said.

“The woman’s head was shaved by other women of the village. Their clothes were torn and they were tortured through the night. The villagers informed the police only during early hours in the morning,” he added.

The villagers alleged that both were married persons and they were cheating on their spouses, the police officer said.

On June 8, two friends, Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath, had gone to a picnic spot at Kangthilangso waterfalls under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong. While returning, their vehicle was stopped at Panjuri Kachari by a group of irate villagers, who beat them to death on suspicion of being ‘Sopadhora’ (child-lifters).

On June 18, a mob had attacked a couple while they were going on a bike in Pukhurpur village of Rongjuli area in Goalpara district, claiming they were unmarried and it was “improper” of them to move around together.

The villagers alleged that both were married persons and they were cheating on their spouses, the police officer said. "The woman's head was shaved by other women of the village. Their clothes were torn and they were tortured through the night," he added.

After some time, it was found that no plates were left to serve food to the invitees, which angered the people and led to heated exchange of words, he said.

Some people came to blows, leaving five persons injured, Yadav said, adding the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.&nbsp

One of them, Vishal (20), succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital, the officer said.&nbsp

Priyanka Chopra takes rumoured beau Nick Jonas for a beach holiday, cousin Parineeti accompanies

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the Central government's National Waterway 1 project will not be successful unless the issue of siltation is addressed in the state, reports news agency ANI.

The 1,620 km long National Waterway 1 runs from Haldia to Allahabad and passes through West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the report added.

"Given the present&nbspcondition of siltation in river Ganga, especially in Bihar region, the National Waterway 1 will not be successful until the issue of siltation is addressed and resolved," Kumar said in his speech at the two-day 'East India Climate Change Conclave 2018' here on Sunday.

Kumar pointed out that he has been raising this issue for quite some time now and said his government had organised two conclaves on Ganga in Patna and New Delhi.

He added that they also drew the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari on the same.

The Chief Minister further expressed his concern over the issue of global warming and said: "Everybody is aware of the contribution of the developed countries towards the rising issue of global warming. India's contribution is not that much, but still we are suffering and paying for it. India is way behind when it comes to exploiting the environment."

He added: "When I was in school, I used to hear that 1200-1500 mm rainfall will be there in a particular season. Now is a time when Bihar suffers from both floods and drought at the same time. Between 2006-2012, the average rainfall level has dropped to 912 mm."

Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan was also present on the event.
