<p>The row over plans to rename 'Haj Bhavan' after Tipu Sultan, an 18th-century ruler of Mysore kingdom continued&nbspwith BJP leader K G Bopaiah on Sunday saying his party wanted it renamed after late President APJ Abdul Kalam, reported news agency PTI.</p>

<p>"Our party leaders, including B S Yeddyurappa, who is our state BJP president, want Haj Bhavan renamed after Abdul Kalamji, instead of Tipu Sultan," he reportedly told.</p>

<p>Bopaiah, a former Speaker, also feared that communal clashes might break out across Karnataka if the state government renames Haj Bhavan after Tipu Sultan.</p>

<p>The BJP leader was replying to a query on Minority Welfare and Wakf Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan's June 22 statement that he would discuss with the Chief Minister renaming of Haj Bhavan to 'Hazrat Tipu Sultan Haj Ghar'.</p>

<p>Khan had said that officials at recent Haj committee review meeting told him there were several requests to rename the Haj Bhavan, which accommodates Haj pilgrims, and that he would discuss it with the chief minister.</p>

<p>The BJP is opposed to the plan to rename Haj Bhavan, saying it was a building for the entire Muslim community and not just for Tipu's followers.</p>

<p>Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief&nbspminister R Ashoka had said Haj Bhavan was among the development projects of the Yeddyurappa government and that Congress was now trying to 'hijack' it by naming it after Tipu.</p>

<p>He had noted that Haj Bhavan was for the entire Muslim community and not only for Tipu's followers.</p>

<p>BJP MP Shobha Karnadlaje had said at no cost should it be named after Tipu and if it was done her party would stage "a strong protest" across the state.&nbsp</p>

<p>"We want the Supreme Court to start day-to-day hearing in the case from July. We expect its decision would come by end of this year and construction would start next year," Kumar told reporters here.</p>

<p>At a time when Bollywood is keen on making biopics, TV star Krushna Abhishek expressed his interest on being cast as Govinda for a biopic on him (if ever one is made) -- considering many people believe that he copies the star quite well, in his dancing and acting style and also he is Govinda’s nephew.&nbsp;</p>

This came up when Krushna was enquired if Ranbir Kapoor is doing justice to Sanjay Dutt’s character in a biopic made on him -- Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju. To this, Krushna said, “I think no one can do his (Govinda’s) biopic as good as me. As you are seeing the trailers of 'Sanju', you know Ranbir Kapoor is the best choice as Sanjay Dutt, I know I would be the best for Govinda. We have a similar style when it comes to dance and comedy, and though I don’t copy him, it’s in the blood. I think I will do great justice to it and that can also be my tribute to him.” Krushna recently came in the news when Govinda’s wife Sunita alleged him of inappropriate behaviour and for using the name of Govinda for the sake of fame. Krushna, however, refuted all such claims. Meanwhile, on the work front, Krushna will be seen in the upcoming comedy film, Teri Bhabi Hai Pagle. Speaking about the film, he said, “It was a fun time shooting with the entire team. I had worked with Mukul years ago and when I got to know he is there, I was really excited to meet him. He is a very subtle actor and has a spark. The other actors Rajniesh and Nazia were also super fun to work with, and not to forget our director Vinod Tiwarri.”

<p>The Cabinet Committee of Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, met here today to recommend the dates.</p>

<p>President Ram Nath Kovind will now formally convene the session.</p>

<p>More than six ordinances will be taken up, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters here.</p>

<p>The triple talaq bill, which has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is pending in the Rajya Sabha, will be among the top priorities of the government, the minister added.</p>

<p>He said the government will push for constitutional status for the National Commission for OBCs.</p>

<p>The National Commission for Medical Education Bill and the transgender bill will also be taken up.</p>

<p>Pawanraje Nimbalkar's son Jairaje Nimbalkar recently filed the RTI query seeking status of the case lodged by Hazare.&nbspIn reply to the query, CID's Additional Superintendent of Police, Aurangabad region, C J Kamble informed Jairaje Nimbalkar on June 8 that the "investigation is still on" and the "charge sheet has not been filed till date".</p>

<p>Earlier this month, Pawanraje Nimbalkar's wife Anandidevi moved the Bombay High Court challenging a sessions court order refusing permission to the CBI to examine Hazare as a prosecution witness in connection with her husband's killing.</p>

<p>With nearly a month to go for the Pakistan general elections, Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed has decided to swoop into Pakistan’s political scene. His newly-floated party Milli Muslim League (MML) is contesting elections on the cover of Allahu Akbar Tehreek (AAT) - a dormant political entity for 15 years, which was registered in the Election Commission of Pakistan.</p>

<p>Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed on Saturday inaugurated the office of MML- which failed to get registered - in Islamabad, and is promoting his son, Talha Saeed, a designated terrorist under the US Treasury Department, and son-in-law, Hafiz Khalid Waleed, to contest the upcoming elections, among the 265 candidates fielded by the JuD for national and provincial assembly seats.</p>

<p>Going back to the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the US declared JuD as a foreign terrorist organization in 2014 and also added the MML and Tehreek-e-Azadi-e-Kashmir (TAJK) to the list saying that both were fronts of the banned terrorist organization LeT.</p>

<p>Hafiz Saeed, who carries a $10 million American bounty, had been trying his hand in politics for a long time and has gone to great lengths to get support from various networks including Difa-e-Pakistan Council – aimed at madrasa student’s religious groups and many politicians.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Other networks include Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation, Tehrik-e-Tahffuz-e-Qibla-e-Awal, Tehrik-e-Hurmat-e-Rasool, student groups associated to LeT including the Al Muhammadia Students Pakistan - an organisation which is listed as a terrorist group by the United States. Its videos and pictures have previously been directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi.</p>

<p>So, it suffices to say that Saeed has created more followers that you’d think.</p>

<p><strong>Threat to India</strong></p>

<p>Sheikh Yaqoob, a JuD-backed candidate and a designated terrorist by the US, who contested as an independent candidate in the&nbsp;by-polls last year, had said that the new front “will field candidates in every constituency of the country in next year’s election.” He went from person-to-person campaigning on the ticket of the Lashkar-backed MML.</p>

<p>His electoral bid: That the party had no intention to go against Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif but to contest against PM Modi. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Hafiz has been very vocal about his stance on India and has previously vowed to declare war. Maulana Bashir Ahmad Khaki, a senior JuD functionary considered close to Saeed, openly issued a death threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked the followers to wage a war against India to disintegrate it, news agency ANI reported.</p>

<p>"Flag of Islam will be hoisted in India and America. Modi (Indian Prime Minister) will be killed. India and Israel will get disintegrated as more and more martyrs will be produced,” he had said.</p>

<p>Saeed is using the vulnerable Sikh community in Pakistan to push his propaganda against India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Defence expert Sunil Deshpande said that with Saeed winning the elections, the entire world will be under the threat of the nuclear war all the time. “Pakistan is heading towards trouble. If Saeed launches the party then Pakistan would become a terror state and the complete regime will go in the hands of the terrorist,” he told ANI.</p>

<p>The Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan has introduced a 20 per cent surcharge on liquor, the proceeds of which will be used for protection of cows in the state, an official said.</p>

<p>“The state government hereby notifies that surcharge at the rate of 20 per cent shall be levied and collected on the amount of tax or any sum in lieu of tax payable on the sale of foreign liquor, Indian made foreign liquor, country liquor and beer sold by dealers registered under the provisions of the Rajasthan Value Added Tax Act 2003 with effect from July 23, 2018,” an official order read.</p>

<p>The surcharge imposed on liquor is meant for cow protection, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance and Taxation) Mukesh Kumar Sharma said.</p>

<p>The state government had in April last year imposed a 10 per cent surcharge on all non-judicial instruments for the protection of cows thus making rent agreements, mortgage papers and lease agreement costlier.</p>

<p>Official sources said the state government was also considering increasing the surcharge on non-judicial instruments to 20 per cent from&nbspexisting&nbsp10 per cent for cow protection and propagation in addition to the liquor surcharge.</p>

<p>In the drought-affected areas of the state, there are 1,682 cow-shelters with 5.86 lakh cows. There are a total 2,562 cow-shelters having a population of nearly 8.58 lakh cows in Rajasthan.</p>

<p>Officials said in the past two financial years, the Rajasthan government has earned approximately Rs 895-crore from the 10 percent surcharge levied on stamp duty for conservation and propagation of cows and their progeny.</p>

<p>Under the proposals for cow conservation and propagation fund rules-2016, the state government provided Rs 132.68 crore in the financial year 2016-17. The funds were provided for fodder and water to 1160 cow-shelters.</p>

<p>In 2017-2018, the state government spent Rs 123.07 crore on 1603 cow-shelters. In the year 2015-16, before the surcharge was imposed, the state government spent Rs 1.80 crore for nurturing 4,449 bovines rescued from smuggling and slaughtering, they said.</p>

Officials said in the past two financial years, the Rajasthan government has earned approximately Rs 895-crore from the 10 percent surcharge levied on stamp duty for conservation and propagation of cows and their progeny. Under the proposals for cow conservation and propagation fund rules-2016, the state government provided Rs 132.68 crore in the financial year 2016-17. The funds were provided for fodder and water to 1160 cow-shelters. In 2017-2018, the state government spent Rs 123.07 crore on 1603 cow-shelters. In the year 2015-16, before the surcharge was imposed, the state government spent Rs 1.80 crore for nurturing 4,449 bovines rescued from smuggling and slaughtering, they said.

<p>Reacting to the media reports, that come amid a strain in bilateral ties, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar reiterated that India remains firmly committed to strong people to people ties between the two countries and will ensure that the people of Maldives do not have to endure any hardships.</p>

<p>“The reports are misleading. As highlighted in the recent notification by the Director General of Foreign Trade, the requirements are calculated based on actual utilization in recent past and are consistent with the mechanism of the trade agreement signed between India and Maldives in 1981,” Kumar said.</p>

<p>“India’s ties with Maldives nose-dived after it criticised the Abdulla Yameen government for imposing a 45-day emergency in the archipelago nation earlier this year”.</p>

<p>During the crisis, India had ignored calls for military intervention from the opposition parties in the island nation.<br />
The influence of China on the Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, considered a backyard of India, has been growing and it is seen as a concern in New Delhi.</p>

<p>Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram today slammed the government for terming the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a “celebration of honesty”, saying if that was the case, why did the BJP oppose it for five years prior to coming to power in 2014.</p>

<p>In a series of tweets, the senior Congress leader asked the government whether it knew that millions of traders and exporters were affected because their money was stuck and not being refunded promptly after the implementation of the GST regime, which completes one year.</p>

<p>“If GST is a ‘victory of integrity’ and ‘celebration of honesty’, why did the BJP oppose it and stall it for 5 years? Why do the PM, FM and Acting FM refuse to speak on the numerous flaws in the implementation of GST?” he asked.</p>

<p>Describing the GST as a fine example of cooperative federalism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday said the new system was a “festival of honesty” which had ended ‘inspector raj’ in the country.</p>

<p>Chidambaram also asked how long can the government use the temporary Form GSTR-3B? “Is it legally valid?” “Why have GSTR-Form 2 and GSTR-Form 3 not been notified even after 12 months?” he asked.</p>

<p>Filing GSTR 3B form is mandatory for all those who have registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The GSTR 3B is a simple tax return form introduced by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) for the month of July and August.</p>

<p>The forms – GSTR-1, GSTR-2 and GSTR-3 – for the months of July and August are to be filed in the month of September. The GST has come into effect in the country on July 1, 2017.</p>

<p>The CCPA, chaired by Home Minister Rajanth Singh, recommend the dates today. The session will be officially convened by the President.</p>

<p>Parliamentary Affairs minister Ananth Kumar informed that the session will have nearly 18 sittings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This monsoon session, the government will aim to pass the Constitution (123rd) Amendment Bill, 2017 to accord constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).</p>

<p>Some other significant bills that are likely to be tabled and passed this session include the Triple Talaq bill, the Transgender Bill, among others.</p>
