According to news agency PTI, Faure, who is on his first bilateral visit to India, was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Modi this morning.

After the ceremony ended and the dignitary had left, Prime Minister Narendra Modi walked up to the airman and enquired about his health.

After spending a few minutes with him, Modi left for his official residence, sources in the Prime Minister's Office said.

The airman had fainted when the guard of honour was being presented to the visiting dignitary. He was attended by his colleagues and others present there.&nbsp;

How can the national capital afford the felling of over 16,500 trees for a housing project, the Delhi High Court asked on Monday.

Taking note of the views expressed by the court which appeared inclined to order an interim stay of the tree chopping process, the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), tasked with redeveloping half a dozen south Delhi colonies, agreed not to cut any tree till July 4.

The NBCC made the statement after a vacation bench of Justices Vinod Goel and Rekha Palli asked,"Can Delhi today afford cutting down of so many trees for a housing complex? We could understand if it was a road-widening work which is inevitable."

It initially asked NBCC to "stay its hands" till July 2 when a similar issue would be heard by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and asked the petitioner, an orthopaedic surgeon, to approach the tribunal.

The court's observations came after the NBCC said the NGT had the jurisdiction to hear pleas challenging environment clearances (EC) granted to any project by the Centre.

NBCC, represented by senior advocate J P Seng, told the court that it has also deposited Rs eight crore with the tree authority for permission to fell trees.

Central government standing counsel Ripudaman Bhardwaj, appearing for ministries of Environment and Housing, said the ECs given by the Centre were in accordance with the earlier orders of the NGT.

However, the petitioner's lawyer told the bench that the matter also involved permission given in November last year by the tree authority of the Delhi government to fell the trees and this decision cannot be challenged in the NGT.

Thereafter, the court gave the petitioner, Dr Kaushal Kant Mishra, time till July 4 to amend his plea and challenge the tree authority's decision.

Since the court appeared inclined to give an interim order till the next date, NBCC made a statement that no tree will be felled till then. The court also made the tree authority of Delhi government a party in the matter.

The PIL has sought setting aside of the terms of reference (ToR) and EC granted to the project by the Environment Ministry, saying it would lead to felling of over 16,500 trees.

The six south Delhi colonies where the trees would be felled are Sarojini Nagar, Naoroji Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Thyagaraja Nagar, Mohammadpur and Kasturba Nagar, the petition has said.

According to the petition, the separate ECs for each area were granted between November last year and June this year.

The petition has claimed that planting of saplings in another location as compensatory afforestation would not reduce the burden which would be put on the environment due to the large-scale felling of trees.

It has claimed that saplings would be a "poor substitute" for the fully grown trees that would be felled for the housing projects.&nbsp

ANI quoted DCP RS Bhagora as saying the accused had been given homework, which he hadn't done. That led to a scolding.&nbsp;

Bhagora claimed the accused, to get his revenge, then decided to do something close down the&nbsp;school. So he stabbed and killed a schoolmate.&nbsp;

Bhagora added that the suspect's parents said he was violent in nature.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Delhi Metro's Mundka-Bahadurgarh section and said his government's priority is to build convenient, comfortable and affordable urban transport systems in cities.

Inaugurating the latest section via video conference, he said there was a direct link between connectivity and development.

"Our government brought out a policy relating to metros. This is because we felt aspects relating to metro systems need greater coherence and work as per a basic set of standards," he said in his address.

He also said that the government wants to boost make in India by making coaches of the Metro in India itself.&nbsp

"Several nations helped us in the making of the Delhi Metro and other Metros, and now, we are helping other nations by designing coaches for their Metro systems," Modi said.

He pointed out that the process of making Metro systems is also linked to cooperative federalism. "Wherever Metros are being built in India, the Centre and the respective state governments are working together," he said.

"New India requires new and smart infrastructure. We have worked on roads, railways, highways, airways, waterways and i-ways. There is unparalleled focus on connectivity and ensuring development projects are completed on time," the PM said.

Bahadurgarh, he said, is witnessing tremendous economic growth. There are several educational centres there, students from there even travel to Delhi.&nbsp

"The Metro will bring convenience to this part, which is considered the gateway to Haryana ... We have seen how the Metro in Delhi has positively impacted the lives of citizens," Modi said.

The 11.2-km-long fully-elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh corridor is part of the Delhi Metro's Green Line.

The Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch, with seven stations, would be an extension of the existing Green Line (standard-gauge tracks) from Inderlok to Mundka.

Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar attended the function in Bahadurgarh.

After the opening of this corridor, the entire Inderlok-Bahadurgarh section would become 26.33 km long.

The Delhi Metro network will now expand to 288 km with 208 stations.

This would be the DMRC's third foray into the neighbouring state of Haryana. Metro services are already operational in Gurgaon (Yellow Line) and Faridabad (Violet Line).&nbsp;

The Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch, with seven stations, would be an extension of the existing Green Line (standard-gauge tracks) from Inderlok to Mundka.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the facility through a video-conference facility from the PMO on Sunday," a highly-placed source said.

Union Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will attend the function in Bahadurgarh, the source said.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a statement issued today, said, "Passenger services on the City Park (Bahadurgarh) Mundka metro corridor will begin from 4 PM tomorrow."

City Park is the name of the station that falls in the satellite city of Bahadurgarh, a bustling urban settlement in Haryana's Jhajjar district.

"As per the timetable for the entire Inderlok/Kirti Nagar City Park section, a total of 20 trains will be put into service," a senior DMRC official said.

"Every alternate train from Mundka will go up to City Park in Bahadurgarh, and a frequency of around eight minutes will be maintained between Mundka and City Park. The total running time between Inderlok/Kirti Nagar and City Park (Bahadurgarh) will be about 50 minutes," he said.

Bahadurgarh has a population of about 1.7 lakh and besides having industrial units is also an upcoming educational hub, with many universities and colleges. Mundka too has industrial units, and therefore the new corridor will facilitate to-and-fro travel of people employed there and students who have to travel from Delhi, the official said.

After the opening of this corridor, the entire Inderlok-Bahadurgarh section would become 29.64 km long, the DMRC said.

With the opening of this section, the Delhi Metro network will expand to 288 km with 208 stations.

Haryana already has over 21 km of lines under the DMRC network. With this section, the Delhi Metro section in Haryana will expand to 25.8 km.

"This entirely elevated section will not only connect the capital city with Bahadurgarh, but also provide connectivity to many outer Delhi areas of the western fringes of the city, such as Mundka, Ghevra and Tikri Kalan," the DMRC said.

In Delhi, stations will be Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan and Tikri Border, while in Haryana, it will be Modern Industrial Estate, Bus Stand and City Park.

The facade of the Mundka Industrial Area station has been decorated with beautiful terracotta designs. All other stations on the line also have vibrant colour scheme with bright yellow pillars on the platforms.

The lifts also have been done in an eco-friendly way with terracotta tiles at all stations. The roof-tops of the elevated stations have also been redesigned for better aesthetics, the Delhi Metro said.

All seven stations have been equipped with the latest energy-efficient systems and rated as "platinum" by the Indian Green Building Council for adherence to green building norms, it added.

With the opening of the Mundka-Bahadurgarh corridor, the span of Phase-3 network will expand to nearly 98 km, the official said.

Also, the total network of the DMRC outside Delhi will spread to 39.33 km with 27 metro stations. Another 49.17 km of new lines with 36 stations (including Noida-Greater Noida corridor) is being currently built, he added.

India condemned the incident and raised the matter with the foreign office of Pakistan. India also summoned Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner and lodged a strong protest over the denial of access to its envoy in Islamabad and consular officials to visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib and meet visiting Indian pilgrims.

It was conveyed to the Pakistan side that preventing the Indian High Commission officials from discharging their consular responsibilities was in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, and the 1974 bilateral Protocol on visit to religious shrines.

Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah was summoned and a strong protest was lodged over the denial of access to Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria and consular officials to visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Pakistan's Punjab province and meet the Indian pilgrims despite a travel permission from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

"Concerns have also been conveyed at repeated attempts by entities in Pakistan to extend support to secessionist movements in India and incite the Indian pilgrims, and Pakistan authorities asked to ensure that no such activity is carried out from Pakistan soil," it said.

A strong protest was also registered by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad over the incident, it said.&nbsp;

As per reports, Pakistan recently granted visas to more than 300 Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the country and observe ceremonies and rites on the occasion of the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore.&nbsp;

Bisaria had agreed to cancel his visit: Pakistan on barring Indian envoy from visiting Gurudwara

Power Minister R K Singh said on Sunday that setting the air conditioner temperature at 24 degrees Celsius as compared to 18 degrees Celsius will help to save a lot of energy.

He further claimed that a total of 36 per cent of energy will be saved and that the AC manufacturers are happy with the decision.&nbsp;

"When temperature for AC is set at 24 degree Celsius as compared to 18, 36% electricity is saved. It is good for health & budget. AC manufacturers are happy with the step. Default temperature setting for air conditioners to be set at 24 degree Celsius," Singh told ANI.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), which carried out a study, recommended the default setting that could go up two notches to 26 degrees Celsius.

The proposal is part of the campaign initiated by the Ministry of Power that aims to save substantial amount of energy and also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"Every one degree increase in the air-conditioner temperature setting results in saving of 6 per cent of electricity consumed," Singh said in a statement.

He added: "Normal human body temperature is approximately 36-37 degree Celsius, but large number of commercial establishments, hotels and offices maintain temperature around 18-21 degree Celsius. This is not only uncomfortable but is actually unhealthy."

The power ministry also launched an awareness campaign around air conditioning in order to achieve substantial energy savings and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In the meeting, manufacturers were also advised to set labels on air conditioners which indicate the optimum temperature settings as part of consumer awareness. The temperature setting will be in the range of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. The government also plans to send an advisory to establishments and manufacturers in this regard.

According to a research done by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the total connected load in India due to air conditioning will be 200 GW by 2030 going by the current market trends.

Narendra Modi government is doing better work as compared to the UPA government under Manmohan Singh, Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) Chairman Milind Kamble said today.&nbsp

“In the tenure of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, maximum work has been done for the development of Dalits. From formulation of schemes in the interest of the Dalits, and their effective implementation, the performance of the Narendra Modi government has been comparatively better than the government of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” speaking to reporters here Kamble said.

Kamble praised the Mudra scheme and termed it as an important and successful programme from the point of view of financial inclusion.

“Through the Mudra scheme, nearly 2.75 crore youngsters in the country belonging to SC/ST have benefitted”.

Responding to a question, Kamble said, “There are 19 crore educated youth from SC/ST community. No government can give employment to each of these youngsters. DICCI is trying to attract them towards trade and business. Lakhs of young Dalits have also got attracted towards business. DICCI is also working to empower them”. Kamble also said that instances of Dalit atrocities will stop only when intellectual segment of the society come forward.

Police in Mysuru on Sunday registered an FIR against former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and three others for their alleged involvement in a land denotification case.

"We have filed an FIR against four people, including Siddaramaiah, for denotifying a land under Laxmipuram police station limits," Mysuru Police Commissioner A S Subramanyeshwar Rao told PTI here.

The FIR was filed following a direction from a court in Mysuru, he said.

The principal senior civil judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mysuru, had on June 18 had directed police to register criminal cases and file an FIR against Siddaramaiah and the three others.&nbsp

The other three are former Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairmen C Basave Gowda and D Dhruvakumar and incumbent MUDA Commissioner P S Kantharaju, Rao said.&nbsp

The FIR was filed under various sections of IPC including unlawful buying of property (169), cheating (420) and forgery (468), Rao added.

In his complaint, RTI activist N Gangaraju had charged Siddaramaiah and the officials of usurping government property and denotifying 30 guntas of land at Hinkal village near Mysuru.

He alleged that the land was denotified at the behest of Siddaramaiah and in 1997,he had purchased 10 guntas illegally and built a house in 1998 before selling it when he was Deputy Chief Minister.&nbsp

Launching a scathing attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said Rahul remembers temples only during elections.

Addressing a function here at Chhibramau, Adityanath said, "The Congress president remembers temples only during the elections. Four generations of Rahul's family have never wore a 'janeu' (sacred thread worn by Hindus), but at the time of elections, he shows his janeu."

"The four generations of Rahul Gandhi have never moved a step towards a temple. One should visit a temple with a feeling of devotion and not for politics or to show off," the chief minister added.

The UP chief minister also accused Gandhi and other Congress leaders of trying to demotivate the Indian Army by questioning its bonafide acts.

"When the Army guns down the terrorists, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders raise questions against the Army. The BJP government at the Centre is trying to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the roots and also address the problem of separatism, which has made the Congress worried," he said.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has issued an arrest warrant against&nbsp;Nirav Modi after he was caught in diversion of duty-free imported goods, Cut-and-Polished Diamonds (CPDs) and pearls.&nbsp;

The agency has discovered that Modi's three companies — Firestar International, Firestar Diamond International and Radashir Jewellery — indulged in a total diversion of duty-free goods was found to be Rs 1,205 crore.&nbsp;

In December 2014, DRI, had intercepted the consignments, at Air Cargo Complex, Sahar, Mumbai, destined to Hong Kong and Dubai which were found to be mis-declared in their quality, quantity and value, mainly that of Cut & Polished Diamonds (CPD).&nbsp;

According to the norms, duty-free import of goods by the units located in the SEZ is permitted only if they are to be used as raw material and are exported after value addition or processing. 
 
It was found that high-value diamonds and pearls worth&nbsp;Rs.&nbsp;890 crore, involving customs duty of&nbsp;Rs.&nbsp;52 crore, were allegedly diverted by the SEZ units controlled by Nirav Modi and sold in the open market, the officials said. 
 
To evade import duty, he exported low-quality diamonds and pearls and claimed that these were the ones imported and then processed, they said.

The DRI, which is probing the case, has claimed that it has collected vital details, documents and evidence.

All the three companies are located in Surat SEZ.&nbsp;

"Border Force works with international partners to ensure the most up-to-date information is available."

Aanchal Gangwal, a 24-year-old girl from Neemuch district in Madhya Pradesh and the daughter of a tea seller, has been selected in the flying branch of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Aanchal says she was inspired by the rescue operation carried out by the Indian armed forces during the 2013 floods in Uttarakhand.

"When I was in class 12, there were floods in Uttarakhand and I was impressed with the way the armed forces rescued the flood affected and decided to join the forces, but the family condition was not conducive at that time." Aanchal said.

She says clearing the Air Force Common Admission Test was not an easy task for her.

Over the years she faced the interview board five times and was only successful the sixth time, whose results were declared on June 7.

She was among the 22 selected from all over the country and the only one from Madhya Pradesh. Over 6 lakh students appeared for the exam.

Her father, Suresh Gangwal, who runs a tea stall at the Neemuch bus stand, said: "Now everyone in the area knows about my `Namdev tea stall` and I feel very happy when people come and congratulate me."Suresh says he never let his financial condition hinder the education of his three children."I took a loan to send Aachal for coaching in Indore and also financed my elder son`s engineering. My youngest daughter is in Class 12," he added.

Aanchal has been asked to report at the Air Force Academy in Dundigul, Hyderabad, by June 30.

Madhya Pradesh tea seller's daughter makes it to IAF

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has claimed on Sunday that the flood situation in Assam has improved.

The Authority, however, added that the about two lakh people were still reeling under the heavy flood in the districts Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi.

The state has been experiencing severe floods for the past few days. The floods have further resulted in landslides in several areas.&nbsp

The disaster has claimed the lives of about 24 people in the state.

According to a report released by the ASDMA, the floods have most affected Karimganj district by disrupting the lives of over 1.25 lakh people. The second most affected district is Cachar where more than 27,000 people were affected.

The report further stated that 394 villages were under water and 3,100 hectares of crop areas have been damaged.

The authorities have set up 133 relief camps and distribution centres in four districts, where 27,954 people are taking shelter at present, the report said.

The Jia Bharali river is flowing above the danger mark at the NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district.

Flood situation improves in Assam: State Disaster Management Authority

According to the Indian Army, over 250 militants are active in Kashmir and about the same number are waiting at "launch pads" across the Line of Control to infiltrate.

"About 250-275 militants are active in Kashmir valley," General-Officer-Commanding of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (15 Corps), Lt Gen A K Bhatt told reporters in Baramulla, north Kashmir today.

Bhatt added that militants in groups of 25-30 are waiting at launch pads across the LoC to get into the valley.

"In the 15 Corps' zone (across the LoC), about 250-270 in groups of 25-30 are at different launch pads," he noted.

According to Bhatt, the situation in north Kashmir is better than the south as there is less number of militants in the north.

"Compared to south Kashmir, there is less number of militants in the north and the situation is also better in north Kashmir for which I thank the people, especially the youth, here," he said.

"I think National Security Guards will be deployed in Srinagar city along with the police," Bhatt informed.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force is set to create <a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/bsf-to-set-up-team-of-snipers-to-tackle-infiltrating-militants-145122">a team of snipers</a> to tackle the increasing movement of infiltrating militants across the J&K border, reports suggest.
