The health ministry said the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 50, adding the rest are being retested for confirmation. Once the fresh cases declared by the state governments are taken into account, the figure will go up to 59. In Pune also, three persons tested positive, a day after two cases were reported. Announcing the latest cases in Kerala at a media interaction in Thiruvananthapuram after a special cabinet meeting held to discuss the coronavirus situation, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at least 1,116 people are under observation -- 149 in isolation wards of various hospitals and 967 under home quarantine. The fresh cases are friends and relatives of an Italy-returned couple and their son who had on Saturday tested positive for the deadly virus along with two other kin staying with them at their home in Rane in Pathanamthitta district, Health Minister K K Shailaja, who was also present, said. The aged parents of the couple are among the six latest positive cases, she said. ''The Scindias have historically been with the BJP. Our mother also wished they [Jyotiraditya and his father]returned. As for state politics, our hands have been strengthened. A couple of days back, we told you the story of Abdullah — a 7-year-old boy from Hyderabad who has been diagnosed with 3rd stage cancer.

As you might remember, Abdullah is an ardent fan of Dubai's crown prince — his Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid al Maktoum.

He wanted to meet his idol more than anything else in the world. And true to his nature — the crown prince has fulfilled Abdullah's greatest desire.

As sheikh Hamdan embraced young Abdullah in a bear hug — it was truly a moment of joy.

Crown prince: How is everything, Abdullah?
Abdullah: Fine
Crown prince: you're looking good.&nbsp;

For the 7-year-old, the meeting could not have been more special. Abdullah suffers from stage 3 cancer. It was his wish to meet the crown prince of Dubai. His hero and role model whom he followed on youtube and Instagram.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath was on Monday engaged in troubleshooting after several lawmakers, including ministers, supporting Jyotiraditya Scindia flew to Bengaluru amid intensified factionalism in the ruling party ahead of Rajya Sabha polls.

As his government appeared to be on a sticky wicket, Kamal Nath, who met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi to discuss the political situation as well as nominees for the Rajya Sabha election, cut short his visit and returned to Bhopal on Monday night, where he went into a huddle with Digvijay Singh and other senior leaders at his residence, before calling a cabinet meeting at around 10 pm.

The BJP, meanwhile, called a meeting of its MLAs on Tuesday, where sources said Shivraj Singh Chouhan may be elected as the leader of the legislature party.

The rumblings in the Congress had started last week when it had accused the BJP of trying to topple its government after 10 MLAs of the ruling party and those of its allies travelled to Haryana, though the BJP had denied the charge.

Of them, eight had come back and many of them wanted ministerial berths, according to sources. However, two Congress MLAs have not yet returned.

To add to the woes of the party, Scindia and at least 17 MLAs, believed to be supporting him, suddenly became 'incommunicado' on Monday, leading to intense speculation.

Scindia and Nath have fallen out over the post of the state Congress president, which is currently held by the chief minister.

While calls made to Scindia by PTI remained unanswered, mobile phones of at least six ministers who are supporters of the Guna royal are switched off.

The ministers whose mobile phones were switched off were health minister Tulsi Silavat, labour minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia, transport minister Govind Singh Rajput, women and child development minister Imarti Devi, food and civil supplies minister Pradyumna Singh Tomar and school education minister Dr Prabhura Choudhary.

Sources said several legislators, including a few ministers, arrived in Bengaluru by chartered flights and were staying at an undisclosed location.

"It is a fight for the survival of Scindia now. It is a do or die battle for Scindia and his group which is being sidelined," a source close to the scion of erstwhile Gwalior kingdom said.

As the world celebrated Women’s day this weekend, a group of men and women at the Army Officers Training Academy, Chennai were cherishing the completion of their 11-month rigorous training.

As the world celebrated Women’s day this weekend, a group of men and women at the Army Officers Training Academy, Chennai were cherishing the completion of their 11-month rigorous training. At the spectacular Passing out Parade, 167 Indian and 11 foreign cadets were commissioned as officers into the Indian and their respective foreign Armies. There were 136 Gentlemen cadets and 31 Lady cadets who passed out of the Academy, in addition to 11 cadets from friendly foreign countries such as Bhutan, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. The parade was reviewed by Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff. Among the commissioned officers were Veer Naris (martyr's wife ) and various other pathbreakers who have overcome challenges and left behind comfortable jobs to don the Olive greens in service of the nation. On the process of making provisions for Veer Naris to join the Army, Lt Gen A. Arun, the Chief Instructor of OTA Chennai told WION, “This is not a college or an academy. This is life. This is a life which you join and as co-travellers within the Army, we do not let go even if you fall, stumble or pass away. It is the strongest piece of thread that binds the fabric that is the Army. There is constant encouragement for a martyr’s spouse to join the Army. It starts with counselling, then the lady herself has to choose and we facilitate the choice. But still, not everyone makes it, however, we encourage them to make it.” “For the Veer Naris there is no dispensation in the standards to be achieved, except for the age criteria which is relaxed for them. Most of them are elder than the other ladies and gentlemen in their batch, but there is no difference in the standards they have achieved. We don’t let go of our families”, he added. WION spoke to some of these inspiring people to understand their journey: Lieutenant Aahana, Wife of Late Major Arvind Bazala, 74 Armored, Army Aviation “I got married in 2015 to an Army Officer… But unfortunately, I lost him in a chopper crash, he was an Army Aviator. Being a Fuji wife I decided to take the legacy ahead. I did my SSB exam, cleared it and came here and did a year of gruelling training and have enjoyed it. Today I am here as a commissioned officer, to live the dreams of my husband personally and professionally. If something happens to you, take it positively and take its with a strong head. Be a strong-headed woman always, whatever situation you are facing make it a strength and move ahead in life. Remember your loved ones with a smile, as I remember my husband with a smile, as Major Arvind Bazala. It is a tribute to him” Lieutenant Gauri Prasad Mahadik, Wife of Late Major Prasad Ganesh Mahadik “My dream was never to join the forces, I always wanted to be an officers wife. 30th Dec 2017 when I lost my husband, after 10 days, it was very difficult for me. I was clueless, what was going to be my life without him. Being a working woman in Mumbai and staying alone. I said no, but he always wanted me to be happy always. My motivation was to continue and join the forces. Finally, I’m here wearing his stars they are his stars only. My family was very supportive, initially, my mother and mother in law were a little sceptical.. but they accepted for my happiness. For the next generation who will be joining, this is the best profession and if you want to serve the country come ahead do your training, be physically fit and just have a great career. For me its not a profession or a career as such. But today I have done it” Lieutenant Ipupu Mena, second-ever woman cadet from Arunachal Pradesh “When I first dreamt of joining the Army it was an impossible dream for me. But I never stopped dreaming and I worked hard for it. I didn’t have much people to guide me. But now that I’m here and have achieved it, I’ll give my best to serve the country and the organization. I’m happy as my parents are really proud of what I’ve done. Also I’m glad that I’ll be able to help all the people out there in my state who want to join the army and be a guiding light for them. Mostly my people don’t know much about the Army. Even though young kids have a feeling about joining the Army they weren’t open about it and didn’t know how to join. Looking at me they are inspired and they are thinking about it as a possible dream. I will be helping them in every way that I can to help them serve the country” Lieutenant Naveen Udameshi, former wiring harness engineer, Mercedes Benz I used to work for Mercedes Benz Research and development as a wiring harness engineer. I had worked there for over two and a half years. People ask me why did you join the Army by leaving behind an illustrious and luxurious career when you had a good package and could go to Germany for work. But there was something that was pulling me towards the Indian Army. The passion and feeling that you get from serving your country and commanding your men, it doesn’t measure up to the luxury or the money that you get in the corporate sector. We as Army guys sleep peacefully as we have done something that benefits our citizens, be it a rescue during a natural disaster or fighting a war. I had done eight SSB attempts and this was my last attempt, once I Cleared I didn’t think twice and even my company supported me well and here I am getting commissioned.

The strain of pneumonia outbreak spreading in the Chinese cities of Wuhan and Shenzhen has added a new nationality to its&nbsp;list of infected individuals - a 45-year-old Indian school teacher, who is undergoing treatment for the mysterious SARS-like coronavirus.

Doctors on Monday confirmed that she was suffering from the virus and is being treated for the same. The patient - Preeti Maheshwari - is a teacher at an international school in Shenzhen.

First discovered in the central city of Wuhan, the coronavirus strain has caused alarm due to its connection to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome(SARS), which had&nbsp;a kill count of around 650 people across mainland China and Hongkong in 2002-2003.

Serving as a major transport hub, Wuhan has 11 million inhabitants and sees hundreds of millions more during the Lunar New Year, when people travel across the country to visit family.

As per the report, global inequality is entrenched and vast, with the number of billionaires doubling in the last decade despite a decrease in their combined wealth in the last year. "The gap between rich and poor cannot be resolved without deliberate inequality-busting policies and too few governments are committed to these," said Oxfam India CEO Amitabh Behar.

The issues of income and gender inequality are expected to figure prominently in discussions at the five-day WEF summit, starting on Monday. The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/world-to-be-riskier-place-in-2018-world-economic-forum-29875">Annual Global Risk Report</a> warns that downward pressure on the global economy from the macroeconomic fragilities continued to intensify in 2019.

Concerns about inequality root from social unrest in almost every continent, though the catalyst may not always be the same such as corruption, constitutional breaches or the rise in prices for basic services and good, the WEF report claimed.

Although global inequality has declined over the past three decades, domestic income inequality has risen in many nations, particularly in advanced economies, reaching historic highs in some, according to the Global Risks Report.

Oxfam report further stated that "<a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/more-girls-die-under-age-five-in-countries-with-high-gender-inequality-174574">sexist</a>" economies are fuelling the inequality crisis by enabling the wealthy elite to accumulate vast fortunes at the expense of the common man, particularly poor women and girls. As far as India is concerned, Oxfam claims that the combined wealth of 63 billionaires is higher than the Union Budget of India for the fiscal year 2018-19, rated at 24,42,200 crore.

According to the report, a female domestic worker would need 22,277 years to earn the same amount the top CEO of a technology earns in a year. With earnings pegged at Rs.106 per second, a tech CEO stands to make more in 10 minutes than what a domestic worker would make in a year. Women and girls put in 3.26 billion hours of unpaid care work every day - a contribution to the Indian economy of at least Rs. 19 lakh crore a year, 20 times the entire education budget of India for 2019 (Rs. 93,000 crores).

The report also claims that direct public investments in the care economy of 2 per cent of the GDP could potentially create 11 million new jobs, compensating for the 11 million jobs lost in 2018.

Mr Behar stated, "unpaid care work is the 'hidden engine' that keeps the wheels of our economies, businesses and societies moving. It is driven by women who often have little time to get an education, earn a decent living or have a say in how our societies are run, and who are therefore trapped at the bottom of the economy."

Oxfam accused governments of failing to collect revenues that could help lift the responsibility of care from women, tackling poverty and inequality and under-taxing the wealthiest individuals and corporations.

Governments are also underfunding vital public services and infrastructure that could help reduce the workload of this demographic, the report said. As per the global survey, 22 richest men in the world have more wealth than all the women in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/after-attacks-on-people-and-livestock-tanzania-will-relocate-36-serengeti-lions-275220">Africa</a>.

Women and girls undertake 12.5 billion hours of unpaid care work every single day, which contributes to the global economy of at least USD 10.8 trillion a year - three times the size of the global tech industry. If the richest were to pay 0.5 per cent of extra tax on their wealth over the next 10 years, it would equal the investment needed to create 117 million jobs in sectors such as child care, education, health and elderly care.

Prioritising care as much as other sectors is a must for governments to build economies that work for everyone, not just a fortunate few, Mr Behar said. Oxfam claims that its calculations are based on the latest data sources available, citing research from the Credit Suisse Research Institute's Global Wealth Databook 2019 and Forbes 2019 Billionaires List.

Citing research from the World Bank, the report further states that reducing inequality has a more pronounced effect on lowering extreme poverty than economic growth, saying that "Analysis indicates if countries were to reduce income inequality by 1 percent each year, 100 million people would be saved from extreme poverty by 2030." "The gap between rich and poor cannot be resolved without deliberate inequality-busting policies and too few governments are committed to these," said Oxfam India CEO Amitabh Behar. The issues of income and gender inequality are expected to figure prominently in discussions at the five-day WEF summit, starting on Monday. The Annual Global Risk Report warns that downward pressure on the global economy from the macroeconomic fragilities continued to intensify in 2019. Concerns about inequality root from social unrest in almost every continent, though the catalyst may not always be the same such as corruption, constitutional breaches or the rise in prices for basic services and good, the WEF report claimed.
