Official: Edin Terzić leaves Borussia Dortmund weeks after leading German side in Champions League final
Edin Terzic has officially stepped down from his role as Borussia Dortmund manager on Thursday (June 13) after a reported row between him and defender Matt Hummels. The resignation comes a couple of weeks after Terzic led Dortmund in the Champions League final against Real Madrid where they finished runners-up. While no successor has been announced, the club will now work on a replacement as they prepare for the 2024-25 season.

“The coach, who won the DFB Cup with BVB in 2021, finished runner-up in the 2023 championship and reached the 2024 Champions League final, asked BVB to terminate his contract with immediate effect. Borussia Dortmund agreed to the request after a joint discussion,” a statement on Dormtund’s official X handle read.
It is reported that Terzic had offered his resignation to the Dortmund board after the Champions League final due to a spat with star defender Matt Hummels. The defender called Terzic out for playing a 'submissive' and 'inferior' brand of football. A Bild report claimed that Terzic was so enraged by Hummels' comments that a violent confrontation ensued between the duo.
The club interfered in the matter and closed the issue so that they could focus on the Champions League final that took place at Wembley Stadium on June 1.

“Dear Borussians, even though it pains me greatly right now, I want to inform you that as of today, I will be leaving BVB. It was a tremendous honor to lead this great club to a DFB-Pokal victory and recently to a Champions League final,” Terzic said in his farewell letter.
“.After our final in Wembley, I asked the management for a conversation because, after ten years at BVB, including five years in the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming restart should be led by a new person,” he added.
Dortmund are yet to comment on who will take charge of the side during next season with still two months to go for the start. Thomas Tuchel could be a natural option considering he is available and has led the club in the past.
