<p>"As for this plane crash, first of all I want to express the words of sincere condolence to the families of all who died. It is always a tragedy. And indeed, if there were the workers of the Wagner company as the primary data says, I’d like to mention that it is people who made the significant contribution to our common cause of fighting with the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine. We remember that, know that and will not forget," Putin said in a video message.</p>

<p>Supporters of Yevgeny Prigozhin continued arriving at the Wagner headquarters in Saint Petersburg on Thursday to pay tribute to the Russian mercenary chief who is presumed to have died in a plane crash.</p>

<p>They built a makeshift memorial, piling red and white flowers outside the building, along with company flags and candles.</p>

<p>One of them called Prigozhin a symbol of truth and resistance “to global capital and the enemies of Russia.”</p>

<p>Hawaii police have said some 388 people are still missing after deadly wildfires ripped through Maui, leaving a trail of destruction behind.</p>

After Landing, What Next For Chandrayaan-3?

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday (August 23) successfully landed its Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon, becoming the first country in the world to ever reach the Lunar South Pole. 


After the dust settled, ISRO prompted its Pragyan rover to roll out of the lander, to begin exploration on the Lunar surface.


The rover will move around to identify the presence of water and ice on the Moon. The water could be a source of oxygen, fuel and water for future moon missions or a more permanent Moon colony.

Although Vikram (lander) and Pragyan (rover) are slated for a mission duration of 1 lunar day (equivalent to 14.75 Earth days), there exists the potential for their extended survival.


Revival of Chandrayaan-3 on the cards: Should the lander and rover endure this harsh lunar night phase, spanning 14.75 Earth days, there remains a chance of revival as the subsequent lunar day arrives, bringing with it the availability of solar power.


ISRO chief S Somanath announced that the Aditya-L1 mission to study the Sun will be most probably launched in the first week of September. Aditya-L1 would be the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun.

<p>While keeping this ignorant and racist rant aside, let’s first get the facts straight on UK’s aid to India.</p>

<p>Back in 2011, India’s then-finance minister Pranab Mukherjee unequivocally told the Britishers that India didn’t require any aid from UK because it was “peanuts.”</p>

<p>"We do not require the aid. It is a peanut in our total development exercises (expenditure)," he had said in the upper house of the Indian Parliament.</p>

<p>In fact, in 2011, the UK govt itself acknowledged that its aid had almost no impact on India’s development. In 2011, the International Development Committee (IDC) of the UK Parliament published an inquiry entitled The Future of DFID’s Programme in India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The inquiry concluded that UK aid could only have a marginal impact on India’s development because it made up only a tiny proportion of India’s gross domestic product.</p>

<p>And now in 2023, when India’s GDP has already surpassed that of UK, it goes without saying how UK’s aid programme has become totally inconsequential.</p>

<p>So, why doesn’t UK stop its aid to India?</p>

<p>The fact is, it has already stopped and now UK’s funding is largely focused on “business investments”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Guardian published a report in March 2023, which quoted the UK’s Foreign Office spokesperson as saying, “Since 2015 the UK has given no financial aid to the government of India. Most of our funding now is focused on business investments which help create new markets and jobs for the UK, as well as India. UK investments are also helping tackle shared challenges such as climate change.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Given that UK’s economy today is mired in miseries and needs India’s helping hand for coming back to life, London uses this investment to deepen its ties with New Delhi and seek the much-awaited trade deals.</p>

<p>All in all, UK’s “aid” to India is nothing but a desperate attempt to keep India in good humour to reap economic dividends.</p>

<p>In the end, I would like to offer a gentle reminder to all those enraged Westerns questioning India’s space programme that:<br />
UK still owes us $45 trillion, which it stole from India during its rule spanning for almost 200 years.</p>

<p>Britain would completely collapse today if it is forced to pay back the money it drained from India.</p>

<p>While India’s space programme today dwarfs those of UK, the country has also witnessed a sharp decline in poverty in the last five years. Almost 135 million people escaped poverty in India during this period.</p>

<p>While Patrick Christys mocks India on poverty, it must be noted that about one-fifth of Brits today live below the poverty line.</p>

<p>But thanks to X monetisation, I’m sure Patrick must be doing well financially by garnering massive engagement on Indian social media.</p>

<p>Even after having missed the GOP presidential debate Wednesday (Aug 23, former US president Donald Trump turned out to be the biggest newsmaker on social media on that night.</p>

<p>He appeared on the Tucker Carlson Show instead, and took on his rivals, including Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.</p>

<p>Trump’s remarks on Kamala Harris in particular generated much engagement on social media. Trump attacked Harris while speaking to Carlson and mocked her accent while saying that she "speaks in rhyme."</p>

<p>When Carlson asked Trump about the possibility of Kamala Harris becoming the next Democratic presidential candidate, Trump reacted by saying, “Well, not really...”</p>

<p>He added, “She has some bad moments. Her moments are almost as bad as it is. I think his (Joe Biden) is worse, actually. Yeah. She speaks in, in rhyme. And, it's weird., but she has bad moments.”</p>

<p>"Well, the way she talks, (mocking tone) the bus will go here and then the bus will go there because that's what buses do. And it's weird. The whole thing is weird. This is not a president of the United States future. And, I think they probably have some kind of a primary and other people will get involved," the 45th further said.</p>

<p>"Just like the excitement has to settle down among the Indian people, the fine talcum powder-like Lunar dust that is kicked up from the landing must settle down. Post-landing, lunar dust can fog up the view of the lander cameras. Since the lunar gravity is barely 1/6th of Earth's gravity, it could take a few hours for the dust to settle. Only after the dust settles down, can the lander commence its tasks, charge itself by harnessing solar power and then open the ramp to eject the Pragyan rover," Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, the former director of ISRO's satellite Centre, told WION's correspondent Sidharth MP.</p>

<p>Although Vikram (lander) and Pragyan (rover) are slated for a mission duration of 1 lunar day (equivalent to 14.75 Earth days), there exists the potential for their extended survival.</p>

<p>ISRO engineered the lander and rover to utilise solar energy for recharging their internal batteries. However, this energy harnessing can only occur during the lunar day period. Subsequently, the lunar night follows, during which the temperature can reach below -150ºC.</p>

<p>Should the lander and rover endure this harsh lunar night phase, spanning 14.75 Earth days, there remains a chance of revival as the subsequent lunar day arrives, bringing with it the availability of solar power.</p>
