KL Rahul on Friday joined Virat Kohli in an elusive list of players to score 600 runs twice in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to become only the second Indian batsman to achieve the iconic feat. Rahul, playing against Rajasthan Royals, in a crucial match in the ongoing IPL 2020 also joined an elusive list of cricketers to have scored 600 runs multiple times in IPL history.

While the likes of Chris Gayle and David Warner have scored 600-plus runs in IPL season thrice in the history of the tournament, Kohli and Rahul are only Indians to have made it to the list.&nbsp;

Gayle, also known as Universe Boss, has achieved the feat in 2011, 2012 and 2013 whereas Warner in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Meanwhile, Kohli achieved the feat in 2013 and 2016. Rahul, on the other hand, scored 600-plus runs in 2018 and in the ongoing IPL 2020. Notably, Rahul missed the 600-run mark by just seven runs last season.

Mumbai City on Friday confirmed the signing of defender Amey Ranawade and midfielder PC Rohlupuia. While 22-year-old Ranawade joins the Islanders on a one-year contract, 21-year-old Rohlupuia has put pen to paper on a four-year deal.&nbsp;

Ranawade, a product of the AIFF Academy in Goa, has represented the now-defunct DSK Shivajians and Mohun Bagan in the I League along with two stints at fellow ISL side FC Goa. The versatile defender, who hails from Mumbai, is also a junior international having represented India at the U-17 and U-19 levels.&nbsp;

Born in Mizoram, PC Rohlupuia played his youth football at East Bengal and through impressive performances in midfield, earned his place in the senior squad, representing the Kolkata-based club 9 times between 2018 and 2020.&nbsp;

Wives, girlfriends and kids would be able to accompany Indian cricketers on their tour of Australia with as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has verbally assured the players of the same. The BCCI was reluctant to allow families amid tough quarantine restrictions in Australia but reconsidered their position after requests from senior players.

Had the BCCI not managed to convince Cricket Australia to allow a touring group of as many as 60 members, some of the players would have been without their respective families for almost six months.

“A few Indian players had requested us to allow family because some of them didn’t bring their wives to UAE,” a BCCI official said. 
“We have informally informed players that they can take their families. Their families’ passport details have been taken,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.&nbsp;

While Shastri’s message clearly hinted that he is strongly in contention for the Indian team, then why not utilize his form in the biggest of series – against Australia? If a head coach can praise a player for his form on Twitter then why not reward him with a dream Team India call-up? If Varun Chakravarthy, who has played just one First-Class match can make it to the Indian squad, then what wrong has Suryakumar Yadav done?

SKY was not picked under the regime of former chief selector MSK Prasad, surely the same case can't be repeated under new chief selector Sunil Joshi?

Arguments can be put forward by saying the Indian line-up is packed but aren’t the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey too similar kind of players for number four and five in the T20I set-up for the Men in Blue? Both Iyer and Pandey haven’t done anything wrong to be dropped but ultimately, it is about the betterment of the team and its balance. SKY has a better range to bat at number 6, has the power to finish games for India and more importantly is going through the form of his life. People saying Manish Pandey remained not-out in all the matches against New Zealand, he faced 12, 6, 36 and 4 balls at number six against New Zealand and didn’t bat in the second T20I.&nbsp;

If IPL is the parameter to pick squads for all the formats (KL Rahul for Tests, Varun Chakravarthy for T20Is) then why can’t Surykumar Yadav, at least make it for the T20I squad? Sanju Samson was picked in the T20I&nbsp;squad even when he has failed to put up consistent performances in IPL 2020. His performances in the domestic season are also patchy. What wrong has Suryakumar Yadav done then?

His cricketing journey and stats aren’t limited to IPL, unlike some big-name players, in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19, Suryakumar smashed 360 runs in 10 matches at an average of 51.42 and strike-rate of 145.16. And he followed up in the next edition with 392 runs in 11 matches with 56 average and 168 strike-rate.&nbsp;

Talk about Deodhar Trophy 2018-19, Surkyakumar Yadav scored 134 runs in three matches at an average of 67 and strike-rate of 134. In 2019-20 edition, SKY smashed a 72 not-out in one of the three matches he played in the tournament and ended up with an average of 42.50 and strike-rate of 157.40.&nbsp;

Suryakumar Yadav’s numbers with the willow and his performances will continue to stagger the fans but at the same time, his non-selection in the Indian team will leave everyone baffled.&nbsp;

If the Indian head coach is the benchmark of motivating people in the Indian camp then he should be the first one to ask for his inclusion, at least in the Indian T20I side. Not because SKY has been touching the sky with his batting just because he has knocked the door for too long and backed it with performances for whichever team he has played for.

And if you want to bring up his mental strength, then the way he kept his nerves despite seeing the captain of the Indian team walk towards him during the MI vs RCB and then win the match for his franchise should be a good enough reason to clear the air. Let alone the struggle of scoring runs for fun in the domestic circuit.&nbsp;

In IPL 2019, he scored 424 runs in 16 matches at an average of 32.61 and strike-rate of 130.86. So far in IPL 2020, he has hammered 362 runs in 12 matches at an average of 40.22 and strike-rate of 155.36. His cricketing journey and stats aren’t limited to IPL, unlike some big-name players, in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19, Suryakumar smashed 360 runs in 10 matches at an average of 51.42 and strike-rate of 145.16. And he followed up in the next edition with 392 runs in 11 matches with 56 average and 168 strike-rate. Talk about Deodhar Trophy 2018-19, Surkyakumar Yadav scored 134 runs in three matches at an average of 67 and strike-rate of 134. In 2019-20 edition, SKY smashed a 72 not-out in one of the three matches he played in the tournament and ended up with an average of 42.50 and strike-rate of 157.40. Suryakumar Yadav’s numbers with the willow and his performances will continue to stagger the fans but at the same time, his non-selection in the Indian team will leave everyone baffled. If the Indian head coach is the benchmark of motivating people in the Indian camp then he should be the first one to ask for his inclusion, at least in the Indian T20I side. Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav produced another match-winning knock in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, prompting many to question his absence from India’s limited-overs squads for the upcoming tour of Australia.

Yadav is among the 12 batsmen who have scored 350-plus runs in this year’s IPL and his 155-plus strike rate is second only to Mayank Agarwal in that group.

Two days after the Indian squads for Australia were announced, the 30-year-old smashed an unbeaten 79 in Mumbai Indians’ five-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore led by India captain Virat Kohli.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh was among those who had questioned Yadav’s omission from Australia tour.

“Don’t know what else @surya_14kumar needs to do get picked in the team India ... different people different rules I guess. I request all the selectors to see his records,” Singh tweeted on Tuesday.

After Yadav’s “class” innings against Bangalore, the 40-year-old tweeted “hope selectors are watching him play...”

Mumbai captain Kieron Pollard said Yadav just needed to be patient for his India call-up.

“Deep down inside, he must be very disappointed not getting to don the blue for India but I’m sure he’s very, very close,” Pollard said after Wednesday’s win.

“He’s done some amazing things for us as a franchise, and the most he can do is continue to let the bat talk and score more runs for us and take us all the way.

“If he continues to be this consistent then at some point in time, you are going to get rewarded. Nothing happens before its time, and long may it continue for us as a franchise.”

At least Yadav’s latest effort did not go unnoticed.
