T20 World Cup: India's Dinesh Karthik suffers back injury, doubtful for Bangladesh clash

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed regret over the missed chances during the T20 World Cup match against South Africa on Sunday (October 30) at Perth Stadium, thanks to half-centuries from David Miller and Aiden Markram.

A crucial 76-run partnership between Miller (59 not out) and Markram (52) led the team to achieve the set target with two balls to spare after the South African bowlers had held India to 133-9.

During the match, India made mistakes on the field as well. Markram survived a scare at 35 when a fumbling Virat Kohli dropped an easy catch at deep mid-wicket. Rohit, who said that the team was "just not good enough", also missed an underarm direct hit at the striker's end.

During the post-match presentation, Rohit said, "We were a little poor in the field, we gave so many chances and we weren't clinical. We were just not good enough."

"The last two games, we were pretty good in the field. We couldn't hold our chances, we missed a few run-outs. We need to keep our heads high and take learning from this game," the Indian skipper added.

South Africa's bowlers took charge, headed by Lungi Ngidi's 4/29. They were effective with their speed and short balls to restrict India to 49/5 in 8.3 overs. After that, Suryakumar Yadav rose to the occasion to score a counterattacking 68 off 40 balls, and he and Dinesh Karthik shared a stand of 52 runs for the sixth wicket as India posted a respectable 133/9 in 20 overs.

Rohit said, "We expected the pitch to have something in it, with the weather around. We knew there will be help for the seamers. Which is why you saw that 130 was not an easy chase. We fell a little short with the bat. I thought we fought well till the end but South Africa played well in the end."

While chasing, South Africa were reduced to 24/3 in 5.4 overs as Indian bowlers used fuller length and some swing, but South Africa shift the gears to complete the chase.

South African bowler Kagiso Rabada took a stunning catch to dismiss Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the 30th Match of the T20 World Cup during a key contest on Sunday (October 30).

With an eye on the semi-final spot, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat at Perth Stadium on Sunday in a battle of unbeaten sides bidding for a semi-final spot at the Twenty20 World Cup.

To take Pandya's wicket, pacer Lungi Ngidi bowled short as Pandya hit it across on the pull. The ball would have touched the ground but Rabada launched himself forward and came charging in to grab the stunner.

South African bowler Kagiso Rabada took a stunning catch to dismiss Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the 30th Match of the T20 World Cup during a key contest on Sunday (October 30).

But the Indian batting order tumbled, with Hardik Pandya going back to the pavilion at 49-5 (8.3). To take Pandya's wicket, pacer Lungi Ngidi bowled short as Pandya hit it across on the pull. The ball would have touched the ground but Rabada launched himself forward and came charging in to grab the stunner. Is it a bird... is it a plane? Kagiso Rabada takes stunner to dismiss Hardik Pandya in T20WC - Watch

India and Pakistan are neighbours and one of the most celebrated arch-rivals in cricket. Their latest showpiece was on October 23 in the ongoing T20 World Cup where India defeated the Men In Greens by four wickets.

Pakistan, one of the pre-tournament favourites, faced another setback when they suffered a shock loss to Zimbabwe on Thursday. The defeat diminished their chances of making the semifinals.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan lost their first two crucial games, but they are finally off to mark after beating the Netherlands by six wickets in their crucial T20 World Cup match here on Sunday (October 30).

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), their selection committee, and also Babar's captaincy have been questioned by several former Pakistan cricketers for the team's dismal performance in Australia.

Now, former Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz used India's Rishabh Pant as an example to highlight how the Indian team management assigns players defined duties. Riaz suggested that their Pakistani counterparts have failed to embrace such a mentality.

During a chat with News 24HD, Riaz said: "Rishabh Pant is India's best wicketkeeper-batter since MS Dhoni. He even has hundreds in England and Australia. If he was in the Pakistan team, would he sit outside in a World Cup match? No chance."

"India kept him out for Dinesh Karthik. They know Pant is a good player who will score a lot of runs but he can't be a finisher. At that specific number, they need a finisher. Pant might hit a couple of sixes but if he fails to finish the game, India will lose. That's the way to go)," he added.

There should be a selection procedure; for instance, if your criteria are to appraise domestic performances, you must determine whether or not Amir, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, or Sohail Tanvir have performed there. They should play if they have them and are healthy."

Mohammad Amir, who was one of the guests at the show, agreed with what Wahab had to say. He said, "I agree with you. The Rishabh Pant - DK example he gave is absolutely spot on. When Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the T20 World Cup, they brought in Axar Patel and not another bowler. India believes in match-ups."

They should play if they have them and are healthy." Mohammad Amir, who was one of the guests at the show, agreed with what Wahab had to say. He said, "I agree with you. T20 World Cup 2022: Pakistan register their first win, beat Netherlands by six wickets

Zimbabwe could have won their key match against Bangladesh in the ongoing T20 World Cup tournament on Sunday (October 30), but the game ended with thrilling last-ball drama and Bangla Tigers emerged as clear winners.

With the victory, Bangladesh regained momentum in the World Cup. This victory was made possible by opener Najmul Shanto's maiden half-century and Taskin Ahmed's three wickets.

Bangladesh opted to bat after winning the toss and scored 150/7 in 20 overs. While chasing, Zimbabwe could score 147 runs, losing eight wickets. But the match didn't end when it looked like it.

The match went to the wire with Zimbabwe needing 16 off an incredible last over, which saw two wickets fall, a big six and the teams. After the final ball, both teams started walking off thinking the match was over, only to be recalled.

When Blessing Muzarabani, who needed five runs to win, went out trying to hit a six off the final ball, the fielding team celebrated as the players shook hands and exited the field, and Bangladesh thought they had won.

However, a review revealed that wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan's gloves illegally caught the ball in front of the stumps, hence it was ruled a no-ball. With four needed to win, the sides had to go back for a free hit, but Muzarabani missed again, leaving Zimbabwe short on 147-8.

Texas man sentenced to death for murder of US' first turbaned Sikh police officer

Analysis of House of Commons library data has found that the political crisis in Britain could cost the taxpayer up to £709,000 in severance payments to former ministers and whips, UK-based media outlet Sky News reported.

Rishi Sunak on Tuesday (October 25) become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after a prolonged political crisis gripped the nation ever since reports emerged that multiple COVID-19 breaching parties were held at Downing Street when such gatherings were banned across the country.

Since the start of this year, 79 government ministers and whips have either resigned or been fired. But regardless of how long they worked in the office, 71 of them are probably eligible for payouts averaging more than £10,000. Two are reportedly returning the funds in full or in part.
