An American soldier made an unauthorised crossing into North Korea. On Tuesday (July 19), the US military identified the soldier as Private Travis T King.

The military also said that the soldier, who is said to be in his early 20s, was facing disciplinary action before he fled during a tour of the heavily fortified border area.

The US-based report mentioned that he is believed to be in custody in the North, however, his motive and other details have not been revealed yet.

His mother, Claudine Gates, said that she was "shocked" and just wanted him to return home. Gates, who hails from Racine, Wisconsin, told ABC News that she heard from her son "a few days ago".

"I can't see Travis doing anything like that," Gates further added that she was taken aback when she was told her son had crossed into North Korea.

What we know so far, is that the soldier served nearly two months in a South Korean jail on assault charges and was released on July 10 after serving his time.

Reports have mentioned that after returning to Texas, he was likely to face extra military disciplinary action. Before fleeing, the soldier was part of a group taking a tour of the Korean border settlement of Panmunjom.

In a report by Korea Times, it was mentioned that White shot off the lock on a gate leading into the demilitarized zone (DMZ) separating the Koreas.

As quoted by CNN, US Forces Korea spokesperson Col Isaac Taylor said on Tuesday that the soldier "willfully and without authorisation" crossed the border.

It was done during a regular tour of a section of the buffer zone between North and South Korea known as the Joint Security Area (JSA).

Referring to North Korea's military, Taylor said in a statement: "We believe he is currently in (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) custody and is working with our (Korean People's Army) counterparts to resolve this incident."

The United Nations Command said he was believed to be in North Korean custody and that it was working with Pyongyang's military to "resolve this incident". Meanwhile, the North claimed he had defected, though Pyongyang refused a request by the United Nations Command to meet him.

According to a US military spokesman, an investigation revealed that White entered North Korea of his own volition. White blasted the US and lauded North Korea and its then-leader Kim Il-Sung in a video broadcast by the North.

'Shocked' mother urges safe return of US soldier who crossed into North Korea

The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement Wednesday (July 19) that Russia had launched overnight air attacks on the Ukrainian port of Odesa. The attack comes just a day after Moscow carried out air attacks on Ukraine's south and east using drones and possibly ballistic missiles.

On Wednesday, Ukraine claimed that Russian forces launched more than 60 airstrikes on Ukraine overnight. The air force said that the Russian barrage included Kalibr, Kh-22 and Oniks cruise missiles, and Iran-made Shahed-136/131 UAVs. The statement added that Ukrainian air defences destroyed 14 cruise missiles and 23 drones.

As reported by news agency Reuters, Serhiy Bratchuk, who is the spokesperson for the Odesa military administration, said in a voice message on his Telegram channel on Wednesday that the attack was "very powerful, truly massive". He added that "it was a hellish night". Bratchuk said that details on damage and casualties would come later.

Odesa's mayor said that the Russian aerial assault was "one of the most horrible nights" of the war. Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov said on Facebook: "We do not recall such a scale of attack since the beginning of a full-scale invasion."

"We are getting stronger from our righteous fury! We are grateful to the air defence system. It was a fierce air battle," Trukhanov said.

The attack comes against the backdrop of Russia suspending its participation in the Black Sea grain export deal on Monday, just hours before it was supposed to expire. Moscow said that it will only return to the deal if its conditions are met.

The deal aimed to alleviate a global food crisis by allowing Ukrainian grain blocked because of the conflict to be exported safely. It was brokered by the United Nations and Turkey last July.

The region of Odesa remained a crucial point ever since the war started. It is home to maritime terminals that were key to the expired grain export agreement between Moscow and Kyiv.

Air attacks on Kyiv

Air defence systems were engaged in repelling the attack on Kyiv, the capital's military administration said on the Telegram channel. Air raid alerts could be heard in the capital on Wednesday morning, Reuters reported.

"A difficult night of air attacks for all of Ukraine, especially in the south, in Odesa," Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's city military administration, said on the Telegram channel.

Meanwhile, on the Russian front, the Moscow-backed governor of Crimea said on Wednesday that a fire that broke out at the military training grounds in the Kirovske district on the Crimean Peninsula forced the evacuation of more than 2,000 people and the closure of a nearby highway.

'Hellish night' for Ukraine as Russia launches another air strike on Odesa

Pita Limjaroenrat, the prime ministerial candidate in Thailand, was temporarily suspended from parliament on Wednesday (July 19) by a Constitutional Court. This comes after a case was accepted against him alleging he was unqualified to run in a May 14 election. This comes as another blow to his hopes of becoming the nation's next leader, despite a stunning election win.

The suspension was announced when Pita was returning to parliament for another day of deliberation on whether he could become prime minister after his initial effort failed by 51 votes last week.

The court said in a statement that Pita has 15 days to respond.

A complaint was filed by the Election Commission against the Move Forward Party (MFP) leader accusing him of violating election laws for allegedly holding shares in a media company.

This is also a setback for the party as it has ridden high on the hopes of young and urban Thais tired of nearly a decade of army-backed rule.

Meanwhile, the court announced that it would hear a case on whether Pita should be removed from parliament entirely for owning shares in a media company. It also ordered him to leave the assembly in the meantime.

"It was commanded that the respondent must suspend his role... until the Constitutional Court has made its decision," the court said in a statement.

US: 3-year-old 'accidentally' kills 1-year-old sibling with a gun in bizarre incident

Record wildfires have forced British Columbia to seek help from the military and foreign countries. Local reports published late Monday quoted the Canadian Armed Forces as saying that the first troops to help in British Columbia's wildfire fight have arrived in the province. They have come with more soldiers, helicopters and a Hercules plane, which is for deployment.

This development comes amid reports of the death of a second firefighter in recent days in Canada's wildfires. The British Columbia authorities have requested help from Canadian armed forces and an additional 1,000 international firefighters.

Reports mentioned that blazes have burned 1.2 million hectares of forest in the province so far this year, far above the 10-year average of 76,000 hectares.

According to the forces, a reconnaissance team is on the ground in Prince George in central BC. The team is working with local authorities, including the BC Wildfire Service.

The province's Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth said that the arrival of the personnel and equipment will be welcomed by firefighters and communities.

"We also know we can count on the Canadian Armed Forces to be able to assist in terms of a lot of the work that needs to be done," he said as quoted by local reports.

"While they don't necessarily fight the fires on the front lines, they can provide important work to be able to allow the firefighters to do the work they need to be doing on the ground," he added.

The statement issued by the armed forces said that in addition to the reconnaissance team deployed on Sunday, two companies of soldiers from 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group based in Edmonton will be available "to assist and enable firefighting."

"The first company will likely be deploying to the Burns Lake area, at the Northwest Fire Centre, and the second will likely deploy to Vanderhoof, at the Prince George Fire Centre," the statement noted.

A threatening phone call

The news agency PTI quoted an official as saying that the traffic control room of Mumbai Police received a call from an unidentified person, who apparently warned of a 26/11-like terror attack if the Pakistani woman Seema Haider did not return to her country. The official said that the call was received on July 12.

The police official also said that the caller spoke in chaste Urdu and said that there would be a terror attack, like the Mumbai attacks in November 2008, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai, killing at least 166 people.

The police official said that the threat call is being probed by Mumbai Police and a crime branch team has also been roped in for the investigation.

Seema Haider has become a matter of national interest in India, and probably also in neighbouring Pakistan. But why? Who is she? Is there really a true love story here, or is something sinister happening behind the scenes?

Seema Haider has become a matter of national interest in India, and probably also in neighbouring Pakistan. But why? Who is she? Is there really a true love story here, or is something sinister happening behind the scenes? What we know so far is that Seema Haider is a Pakistani national who recently entered India illegally via Nepal to marry her lover Sachin Meena, who is a resident of the north Indian city of Greater Noida. Reports claim that they became friends while playing the online game PUBG. As per looks, it appears that she is around 30 years old and her Indian partner is around 25. Also read: Indian Army organises 'Vijay Diwas' arms exhibition in Kargil Local police had even arrested them in connection with her illegal stay in India. However, they were granted bail by a court in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida. Sachin and Seema confessed their love for each other in front of the media and police earlier this month on July 4. They even pleaded with the government to let them marry and live together in India. Seema's first husband Ghulam Haider, is Seema's first husband. Reports say that he is currently in Saudi Arabia, and has even said he still loves her. Ghulam told a Pakistani YouTuber during an interview that he is worried about their children and wants Seema to come back to him. Russia-Ukraine war: Moscow suspends participation in Black Sea grain deal

Ukrainian Air Force said early on Tuesday (July 18) that Russia launched overnight air attacks on Ukraine's south and east using drones and possibly ballistic missiles.

On the Telegram messaging app, the Air Force said that the southern port of Odesa and the Mykolaiv, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions were under threat of Russian drone attacks.

The air force also said that Russia may be using ballistic weaponry to attack the regions of Poltava, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Kirovohrad.

The attack comes against the backdrop of Russia suspending its participation in the Black Sea grain export deal on Monday, just hours before it was supposed to expire. Moscow said that it will only return to the deal if its conditions are met.

US mass shooting: Man wanted in four killings in Georgia shot dead after manhunt

At least two people from Russia's Belgorod region were killed during the "emergency" situation on the Crimean bridge on Monday (July 17). The region's governor has said on the Telegram messaging app that a mother and father died and their daughter was injured.

Russia blamed Ukraine for the attack. The claim was repeated by a Ukrainian source, who told the news AFP on Monday that the Ukrainian navy and SBU security service carried out an overnight attack.

"Today's attack on the Crimean bridge is a special operation of the SBU and the navy," the security service source said. The strike was carried out using waterborne drones, according to the same source.

Traffic was halted on Russia's Crimean Bridge. Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote, "This morning we all started with information about the emergency that happened on the Crimean bridge. We all saw a video on the internet of a damaged car with Belgorod number plates."

"The girl was injured, moderately injured… The hardest thing is that her parents died, dad and mom," Gladkov added.

Previously, Crimea governor Sergey Aksyonov wrote on Telegram: "Traffic was stopped on the Crimean bridge: an emergency occurred in the area of the 145th pillar from the Krasnodar Territory."

He added, "Law enforcement agencies and all relevant services are working... measures are being taken to handle the situation."

Russia's TASS news agency cited a regional official as saying that the Crimean authorities "will provide all the necessary support to tourists in connection with the stopping of traffic on the Crimean bridge".

Russia's Ministry of Transport confirmed that the road on the Crimean side of the bridge has been damaged. However, it is not confirmed whether or not the bridge's supporting pillars have been damaged.

Unverified images have been circulating on social media. The pictures show the damage done to the bridge.

The bridge was damaged in a powerful blast last October, with Russian President Vladimir Putin branding it as a "terrorist attack" orchestrated by Ukrainian security services.

In the aftermath, Putin ordered a wave of retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian cities including the capital Kyiv. But Ukraine has denied being behind the attack.

Russian officials had said that the explosion was caused by a truck that blew up while crossing the bridge, killing three people.

We all saw a video on the internet of a damaged car with Belgorod number plates." "The girl was injured, moderately injured… The hardest thing is that her parents died, dad and mom," Gladkov added. He added, "Law enforcement agencies and all relevant services are working... measures are being taken to handle the situation." Russia's TASS news agency cited a regional official as saying that the Crimean authorities "will provide all the necessary support to tourists in connection with the stopping of traffic on the Crimean bridge". Russia's Ministry of Transport confirmed that the road on the Crimean side of the bridge has been damaged. However, it is not confirmed whether or not the bridge's supporting pillars have been damaged. Unverified images have been circulating on social media. The pictures show the damage done to the bridge. Disclaimer: WION cannot independently verify the authenticity of photos and videos shared on social media. Morning in Ukraine. In the aftermath, Putin ordered a wave of retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian cities including the capital Kyiv. But Ukraine has denied being behind the attack. Crimean Bridge: 'Ukraine behind the attack' that killed at least two

China will soon launch two multi-role frigates, media reports claimed referring to new imagery, which suggests that the production of the next-generation frigate for the Chinese Navy (PLAN) is now underway in Guangzhou. A Weibo user shared several photos.

A report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) mentioned that news regarding the Chinese navy showing the hull of a Type 054B frigate was circulating on social media. A frigate is a type of warship, but it keeps changing with variations in its roles and capabilities in different eras.

A Type 054B frigate is a bigger and faster version of the Type 054A now in service. The report mentioned that the frigate was prepared to be rolled out from the dry dock of a shipyard. China plans to launch two Type 054B frigates by the end of this year.

The visibility of over half of the hull suggested that the ship would soon be launched. Referring to the photos, the report added that the banners hung on the sides of the dry dock stated that the photographs were shot at the Huangpu-Wenchong Shipyard, a subsidiary of the Guangzhou-based China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

As quoted by the report, Lu Li-shih, who is a former instructor at Taiwan's Naval Academy in Kaohsiung, said: "The shape of the bulkhead board and the island control tower suggest that the vessel is a mini version of the Type 055 destroyer." Lu was referring to the Renhai-class stealth-guided missile destroyer with a displacement of more than 12,000 tonnes.

Lu added, "It's an entirely new frigate – not just faster and bigger than the Type 054A, but it has also adopted some new advanced technologies from the Type 055 cruiser."

The SCMP report mentioned that Type 055 is the world's second-most powerful destroyer after the US Navy's DDG-1000, or Zumwalt class.

It is equipped with an integrated mast and powerful radar systems and has been dubbed the "bodyguard" of Chinese aircraft carriers.

More muscle to China's aircraft carrier groups as it plans to add two multi-role frigates

The remains of a Russian soldier were exhumed by a Ukrainian search unit in an eastern Donetsk village on Saturday (July 15). They said that the soldier was killed in combat months ago.

Ever since the Russia-Ukraine war started, the search unit named 'Platsdarm' has been working in the eastern part of the country to retrieve both civilian and military remains from the battlefield.

Oleksii Yukov, who is the head of the search unit, said as quoted by the news agency Reuters that they had found the 445th Russian soldier near Dolyna.

That particular region was on the frontline until Ukraine regained parts of the Donetsk region in September last year. Yukov told the news agency that the Ukrainian military had flagged former Russian military positions to his team.

As translated by Reuters, Yukov said, "This is the 445th body (of a Russian soldier in east Ukraine). And imagine how many of their (Russian) families they have destroyed and how many of our people (Ukrainians) they have destroyed."

"This is the madness they brought along (when invading Ukraine). They have no life, and we have no life. This is crazy, just crazy. And just like that, these Russian boys are lying here on foreign land, nobody needs them except for their relatives and friends, because, I think, the state doesn’t really need them there. Nobody, no problem," he added.

He said, "Their relatives might also care about them. Therefore, you need to understand that our boys are also lying somewhere, and we are coming back for them anyway. If we do not come back, then at least we will get them in exchange so that they (Russians) see that we treat the dead like human beings and want the same attitude towards the dead from the other side. Because if we treat the dead badly, then we as humanity have failed."

He also said that the team believes that a Russian army identification mark discovered among the remains indicates that the remains are most likely those of a Russian soldier.

According to Yukov, a Russian token of their armed forces with a number was discovered which acted as it's called a personal identification mark.

"This identity will already be established and during the exchange for Ukrainian dead it will help us a lot with the information that will be provided by the Russian side regarding this person," he said.

During the course of the war, Ukraine and Russia have staged regular prisoner exchanges, sometimes exchanging soldiers' corpses.
