Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (July 27) said creating modern infrastructure in the western state of Rajasthan is a priority of the government as he addressed a rally in Sikar.

PM Modi said that the government has taken decisions in the interest of farmers for nine years, and created new arrangements from seed to market for them.

While comparing India with the neighbouring nation, PM Modi said that farmers in the nation get urea sacks for Rs 266 ($3.25), available in Pakistan for about Rs 800 ($9.76), Rs 720 ($8.79) in Bangladesh and Rs 2,100 ($25.63) in China.

The Indian prime minister said that the government will not allow farmers to suffer due to the price of urea. He said India can only develop when its villages do, and the government is working to provide villages with every facility available in cities.

Opposition slams PM Modi's absence Parliament

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that PM Modi is not speaking in Parliament and instead making political speeches in Rajasthan.

The opposition wants PM Modi to speak on the raging issue of Manipur violence. Kharge said people have now become aware and will fight "this kind of politics".

While speaking to the reporters, Kharge said: "Today, people have become aware and they will fight and continue to do so...This means you do not want to talk in Parliament - the temple of democracy, and want to give a political speech in Rajasthan while opening new medical colleges."

The mystery around Qin Gang continues to deepen. Qin was sacked and became the shortest-serving foreign minister ever in the nation. Veteran diplomat and Qin's predecessor Wang Yi has returned to the post.

He replaced Qin, who has been absent from duties barely half a year into the job. But Beijing is still not revealing why Qin was fired. The case also reminded of industry minister Xiao Yaqing, who vanished from public view for nearly a month last year, but eventually, it was revealed he was being investigated for corruption.

The world is talking about Qin as China is notoriously famous for the sudden disappearances of notable figures, and its silence over the issues despite global calls to divulge details.

Qin was removed from office by Beijing's highest legislative body on Tuesday (July 25) after only 207 days in the role. China's foreign ministry did not respond to a request for comment and Chinese state media did not say why he was removed. State news agency Xinhua reported that President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to make the decision effective.

Spokeswoman Mao Ning spoke at a regular briefing about Qin's removal. She referred journalists to a state news agency article and declined to offer any further information.

Mao said, "Xinhua has already published information. You can refer to that." On being asked about how she evaluated Qin's brief stint as foreign minister, Mao said she was "probably not the right person to answer that question".

She said, "I don't think it's appropriate for me to pass judgment", insisting that China was "releasing normal information" concerning Qin's position.

Who is Qin Gang?

The 57-year-old was a former aide to President Xi Jinping. He was also an envoy to the United States. He took over the foreign ministry in December. There have been speculations that Qin might have fallen out of favour. Interestingly, any reference to Qin had been removed from the website of China's foreign ministry by July 26.

Qin, who is originally from the northern city of Tianjin, used to work with Xi as the head of the foreign ministry's etiquette department. Analysts think his promotion - first to the US ambassador and then to China's number two diplomat, was because Xi liked him and had faith in him.

The mysterious disappearance of Qin

He has not been seen in public since June 25 when he met Russia's deputy foreign minister Andrey Rudenko in Beijing, but China remained silent for weeks about the fate of Qin.

Beijing's since didn't stop the rumour mill and social media buzz over his name. Some speculations suggested that the diplomat was in trouble because of an alleged affair with a popular television anchor, who is also untraceable.

Ho-fung Hung, an expert in Chinese politics at Johns Hopkins University, told AFP: "People from the outside are totally in the dark and the episode illustrates that Chinese politics is becoming increasingly unpredictable and volatile, though under a calm surface."

Explained | The curious case of China's Qin Gang - missing since June 25

The communication between the International Space Station (ISS) and Mission Control was disrupted on Tuesday (July 25) because of a power outage at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's building in Houston, United States.

The power outage forced the US-based space agency to bank on its backup control systems for the first time.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, mission control lost command, telemetry, and audio communications with the station in orbit.

The incident occurred during an upgrading project at Houston's Johnson Space Centre and the crew was also notified through Russian communication systems.

In a report by The Associated Press, the space station programme manager Joel Montalbano said that there was no danger to the astronauts or the station. He said that backup control systems took over to restore normal communications within 90 minutes.

"It wasn't an issue on board. That was purely a ground problem. At no time was the crew or the vehicle in any danger," he said.

"We knew this work was going on, and in preparation for that we have the backup command and control system that we would use if we have to close the centre for a weather emergency, especially important during the hurricane season," he said.

Montalbano said that it was the first time NASA has had to fire up these backup systems to take control and he also hopes that NASA will resolve the issue and be back to normal operations by the end of the day.

In Cambodia, a Chinese naval base, which could accommodate an aircraft carrier, is nearly done. Satellite images released by BlackSky show significant infrastructure development.

Yuan Meng, who was born in 2017 in the Beauval zoo in the Loire region of France, was cheered by visitors and zoo staff as he was driven under police escort to Charles de Gaulle airport for a 12-hour Air China flight to the Chinese city of Chengdu which took off in the early evening, an AFP reporter saw.

Trained for several days to get ready comfortably for the trip, the son of Yuan Zi and Huan Huan -- the first pandas loaned to France by the Chinese authorities in 2012 -- did not show much hesitation in climbing into his special cage filled with bamboo for his trip.

"Everything went well. He said goodbye to his parents and his sisters, with tears in the eyes of his keepers," said Rodolphe Delord, head of the zoo.

"He can now continue to live his good life. It's inevitably a moment of emotion, but all our animals born here are forced to leave one day. We're used to that," he added.

The panda was given a final farewell on the tarmac by French first lady Brigitte Macron before being loaded onto the cargo plane.

Macron knelt in front of the clear panes of the cage to say goodbye to the panda, who initially appeared more interested in sleeping but then languidly raised his head to acknowledge the presence of the French first lady, television images showed.

Hundreds of fans of the black and white bear earlier braved morning rain outside Beauval zoo to bid farewell.

"It's still sad, we got attached to the panda. But we know he'll be better off there, for the good of the species," said Caroline Bernard.

Her daughter Lilou, nine, was less sanguine.

"I cried, I am sad he is leaving. But I am trying to tell myself that he will be better off there. It's for his own good," she said, her eyes red with tears.

In Chengdu, the panda will be transferred to a panda reproduction centre, with the job of helping to keep his species in existence.

China has long deployed so-called panda diplomacy with friends and even foes ranging from the United States to Taiwan, gifting the animals to various countries, often to further its foreign policy aims.

Beijing only loans pandas to foreign zoos, which must usually return any offspring within a few years of their birth to join the country's breeding programme.

There are about 600 in captivity in panda centres, zoos and wildlife parks around the world.

Indian Army has issued a warning regarding the cybersecurity threat to school-going children, which is apparently coming from Pakistan. This comes after media reported that Pakistani intelligence operatives (PIOs) were seeking information from army school students.

These operatives are asking the students about their parents and also quiz them to join WhatsApp groups. As quoted by reports, the Army said that since yesterday, students across the nation have been receiving calls and WhatsApp messages from PIO.

The ongoing Ukraine war has dominated the lists of agendas of major summits taking place ever since Russia invaded the neighbouring nation last year on February 24. The same is expected to happen in the upcoming G20 summit, which is scheduled to be held in India in September. But there have been some hurdles because of the disagreements on text related to the Ukraine war at all G20 ministerial meetings.

India-based media outlet Hindustan Times reported citing sources that disagreements over text to refer to the Ukraine war have stalled consensus in outcome documents at all G20 ministerial meetings hosted by India so far.

The report further mentioned that the negotiators are trying to come up with a compromise formulation that will be acceptable to all member states in time for the summit.

Moscow has apparently dissociated itself from all references to Ukraine in documents issued after G20 ministerial meetings while Brazil, the host for G20 Summit in 2024, came up with a proposal to end the deadlock but didn’t get much traction, the report said citing sources.

Brazil offered a solution in which the reference to Ukraine would be suspended in the context of the leaders' declaration adopted at the 2022 G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.

But so far, nothing has been finalised.

Sources told the outlet that China has also raised objections saying that G20 is not the right forum to address security issues. Beijing also opposed the inclusion of any "geopolitical content" in outcome documents.

Christina Segal-Knowles, who is the US deputy head of the delegation that participated in the third G20 sherpas' meeting in Hampi, Karnataka, said, "The war in Ukraine is certainly a major issue that's affecting the global economy. We need to be able to talk about that for the G20 to remain a credible institution."

G20 members condemned Russia for quitting grain deal

Recently, several G20 members condemned Russia for quitting the Black Sea grain deal that allowed the safe export of grain from Ukraine and helped tide over the food crisis and inflationary trends due to supply shortage.

"Several members condemned it, saying that shouldn't have happened... passing through the Black Sea shouldn't have been stopped or suspended," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters recetly.

The United Nations-brokered deal expired on July 17 after Russia quit with a warning that it could not guarantee the safety of ships, in a move the UN said would "strike a blow to people in need everywhere."

G20 members fail to strike consensus over Ukraine war mention in text ahead of summit: Report

In the United States, authorities probing the circumstances around the implosion of OceanGate Expedition's Titan submersible are working to figure out whose remains they have in their possession.

Human remains were recovered along with large pieces of the submersible, which is believed to have imploded less than two hours into its dive on June 18.

In a brief statement, the US Coast Guard said on Monday: "United States medical professionals are conducting a formal DNA analysis of presumed human remains that have been carefully recovered from within the wreckage at the site of the incident."

The implosion killed all five on board when it was on a voyage to see the century-old wreck of the Titanic. OceanGate's CEO, Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet were among those who lost their lives.

People from across the world raised concerns over the submersible accident and about the unregulated nature of such expeditions as experts asked why private parties ignore safety checks during risky adventure trips.

Reports also mentioned that the company had not got a safety audit committed by a third party and some experts highlighted that the scope of survival was low even if a small thing went wrong.

'Mousetrap for billionaires'

Recently, Karl Stanley, who was a one-time passenger of the Titan submersible, blamed OceanGate's CEO for the terrible accident.

Stanley, a friend of Rush, said that the CEO created a "mousetrap for billionaires". In a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Stanley said that he'd warned his friend that the carbon fibre and titanium craft was dangerous.

Stanley said, "He knew it would end like this. He literally and figuratively went out with the biggest bang in human history that you can go out with. He was the last person to murder two billionaires at once and have them pay for the privilege."

Stanley added, "I think Stockton was designing a mousetrap for billionaires."

India: Trust vote against Modi govt accepted by Lok Sabha speaker

Russia on Tuesday (July 25) pounded the Ukrainian capital with a sixth air attack this month, the military administration of Kyiv said. Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv's military, said on Telegram messaging app that Russia attacked Kyiv with Iranian-made Shahed drones. All the drones were downed by Ukraine's air defence systems, he claimed.

Popko said that there were no casualties or serious damage, though information was still being collected.

He also mentioned that the air alert lasted for around three hours and all air targets were detected and destroyed when they approach Kyiv.

Amid Russia's warning of retaliation after a Ukrainian drone strike in Moscow, the Kyiv regional military administration had earlier issued an alert for drone attacks. It warned the residents to stay in shelters.

The air force also issued an alert for drone strikes on the southern Odesa and Mykolayiv regions, which share part of Ukraine's Black Sea coast.

The regions are home to port infrastructure that Moscow has battered regularly with attack drones and missiles since exiting a deal facilitating the safe shipment of grain from Ukraine last week.

White House on supporting Ukraine

The war-torn nation claims that its counteroffensive is underway, but the White House said it did not support Kyiv launching attacks inside Russia after two drones from Ukraine damaged buildings in Moscow earlier on Monday.

In a press briefing, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that "as a general matter we do not support attacks inside of Russia."

Russia called the two drone strikes on Moscow an act of terror as one of the explosions was close to its defence ministry headquarters. Moscow even vowed to take harsh retaliatory measures against Ukraine.

Jean-Pierre said, "This is a war that Russia started. This is their war. And they can end it at any time by withdrawing forces from Ukraine instead of launching brutal attacks on civilians."

In a press briefing, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that "as a general matter we do not support attacks inside of Russia." Russia called the two drone strikes on Moscow an act of terror as one of the explosions was close to its defence ministry headquarters. Moscow even vowed to take harsh retaliatory measures against Ukraine. Jean-Pierre said, "This is a war that Russia started. This is their war. Russia strikes Kyiv for sixth time in a month after Ukrainian drones hit near its defence HQ

Consumption of borax has become a new fashion on the video-sharing platform TikTok — a trend which could jeopardise the health of those who are participating in it.

Borax is the powdered substance often found in laundry detergent and is also available as a cleaning agent on its own. Boric acid is a distinct formulation of boron and is used to kill ants and cockroaches.

Recently, videos are going viral with people seen "jumping on the borax train" by adding white powder to smoothies or coffee to relieve the symptoms of arthritis, lupus, or other health conditions.

But experts have said that both borax and boric acid in loose powder form can be harmful if swallowed. They can also irritate your skin.

Some people on TikTok have incorrectly claimed that adding a pinch to water might reduce inflammation and help with joint pain, despite the fact that borax has been banned in food products in the US. Some even claimed that soaking in borax in the bathtub could "detoxify" the body.

Concerns were raised when several TikTok stars with hundreds of thousands of followers advocated the use of borax in videos. However, they later removed the videos.

A report by NBC News mentioned that Dr Kelly Johnson-Arbor, who is a toxicology physician and co-medical director at the National Capital Poison Center, often contributes to the centre's website by writing articles that correct the record on harmful health fads.

As quoted, Dr Johnson-Arbor says that ingesting borax might cause stomach inflammation and result in blue-green vomit or diarrhoea. She claims that soaking in borax can cause anaemia and convulsions over time, as well as rashes that make the skin seem as bright pink.

Dr Johnson-Arbor said, "There's really nothing to support the use of borax in humans for inflammation or reduction of oxidative stress or anything like that."

Borax viral trend reminds the world of other trends which directly or indirectly impact health and misinformation about personal health can be extremely dangerous.
