<p>Launched on September 2nd, India's Aditya-L1 craft is on a four-month voyage to its destination which is 1.5 million kilometres away from Earth. Known as the Lagrangian Point 1, it is situated at 1 per cent of the 150 million kilometre Earth-Sun distance. It is a safe vantage point from where spacecraft can have a constant view of the Sun and solar phenomena, while also being able to remain in touch with its controllers on earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Once they attain a certain speed and orbital parameters, spacecrafts remain in the designated path or orbit, without having to expend any fuel. However, when there are slight deviations observed in their path, necessary steering corrections are performed by firing the craft's onboard engines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an update on Sunday (October 8), the Indian Space agency ISRO said that the spacecraft is healthy and on its way to Sun-Earth L1. point. "A Trajectory Correction Manoeuvre (steering adjustment), originally provisioned, was performed on October 6, 2023, for about 16 seconds. It was needed to correct the trajectory evaluated after tracking the Trans-Lagrangian Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) manoeuvre performed on September 19, 2023" ISRO said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, four operational spacecraft are stationed at the Sun-Earth L1 point. They provide vital early warnings on adverse space weather events, thereby protecting space assets and ground-based infrastructure. The four crafts are- NASA WIND (to observe the unperturbed solar wind before reaching the magnetosphere of Earth), NASA-ESA SOHO(Solar and Heliospheric Observatory- to study the sun and Heliosphere) NASA ACE(Advanced Composition Explorer - observe particles of the solar wind, and of galactic origins) and NASA DSCOVER (Deep Space Climate Observatory to Monitor space weather and climate, deep space Earth observation). In January 2024, Aditya-L1 is expected to join them, as India's representative in the L1 club.&nbsp;</p>

It is maintained in a pressurized earth-like atmospheric condition during the Gaganyaan mission, for the safe sustenance of the astronauts. The CM for the Gaganyaan mission is in different stages of development. For the Test Vehicle Abort mission-1 (TV-D1), the CM is an unpressurised version that has completed its integration and testing and is ready to be shipped to the launch complex. This unpressurised CM has the overall size and mass of the actual Gaganyaan CM. It houses all the systems for the deceleration and recovery, which includes multiple parachutes and associated systems.</p>

<p>The avionics systems in CM are in a dual redundant mode (even if one fails, the backup systems takeover) configuration for navigation, sequencing, telemetry, instrumentation and power. The CM in this mission is designed to capture the flight data for evaluation of the performance of various systems.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the TV-D1 mission, the crew module and associated systems will be mounted atop a mini-rocket known as Test vehicle. This is a liquid-fuelled mini rocket based on the L40 stage booster of the GSLV (erstwhile GSLV Mk2) rocket. Mid-flight, as the required conditions(Mach 1.2 or 1.2 times the speed of sound) are achieved, the Crew escape system and crew module would eject from the rocket, when the vehicle is at an altitude of 17km. thereafter, the crew module will be carried to a higher altitude(away from the rocket) and then it would use onboard parachutes to decelerate and gradually splash down in the sea, about 10kms from the coast of the spaceport in Sriharikota. After splashdown, the Crew Module will be recovered, using a dedicated vessel and diving team from the Indian Navy.</p>

<p>ISRO said that the Crew Module underwent electrical testing, at ISRO’s facility in Bengaluru, including an acoustic test and was dispatched to the spaceport on 13th August. At the spaceport, it will undergo vibration tests and pre-integration with the Crew Escape System, before final integration to the Test Vehicle at the Launch Pad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, ISRO has also taken possession of a crew module shell. This shell is meant to be used for air-drop tests of the same. ISRO gearing up for mid-flight ejection test, in prep for Gaganyaan

<p>India's batter in supreme form, Shubman Gill is unwell and said to miss the home team's first game in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, the Indian Coach and veteran cricketer, Rahul Dravid, offered hopes by saying, Gill is "feeling better than yesterday" and the medical team is monitoring him, we've got 36 hours to go (for the game).</p>

<p>Queried on whether Gill would be in a condition to play the game on Sunday, Dravid said, "the medical team hasn't ruled him out yet".</p>

<p>India will take on Australia at Chennai's MA Chidambaram stadium on 8th October, in what will be the opening game for both teams.</p>

<p>Having arrived in Chennai on Wednesday noon, the Indian and Australian teams commenced net practice sessions at the stadium on Thursday, while Gill had to give these sessions a miss, owing to his poor health as the home team's first game in the World Cup, Sunday's game is much awaited.</p>

<p>With the ODI format and its relevance being debated about, after the average footfall at the inaugural England vs. New Zealand game in Ahmedabad, Sunday's game is expected to show the enthusiasm that a team India game generates in the stadium and off it.</p>

<p>Speaking of the hectic travel and demanding World Cup schedule across ten-Indian cities, Dravid said he saw it as a great opportunity for the Indian team to perform before the home crowd and showcase their talent.</p>

<p>Queried about the ideal score for the India-Australia game, Rahul mentioned he saw no ideal score and teams would have to "adapt and react", as there was no template of a safe total. On the larger tournament, he elaborated on the red soil and black soil conditions at different pitches across venues and how each one posed a unique challenge.</p>

<p>On the dwindling popularity of the ODI format, Dravid said the Indian team hasn't played a lot of ODI Cricket in recent times. He listed out the T20 tournaments that had to be played in quick succession and also the impact of COVID as being some of the probable factors.</p>

<p>"It (ODI) is a fantastic format to play - how much will be decided by a variety of factors..." he said.</p>

<p>He also described how ODIs brought out the best in players and cited the example of Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj's six-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the final game of the recently concluded Asia Cup ODI series.</p>

<p>Interestingly, in the 1987 Cricket World Cup, the first match of the tournament was held in Chennai and it was an India-Australia clash. Defending champions India lost the hard-fought game to Australia, by a margin of one run. Batting first, the Aussies notched up 270 in 50 overs.</p>

<p>In fact, there was a dispute over whether the final ball went for a four or for a six. It is said that the umpire signalled a four and the Aussies were unhappy. When the umpire consulted the Indian skipper Kapil Dev, he is said to have allowed it to be considered a six.</p>

<p>While India had a great chase and made it to 207/2, wickets started falling rapidly and India were struggling at 265/9.</p>

<p>In the penultimate ball of the last over, the final Indian wicket fell when the scorecard read 269.</p>

<p>It was a hard-fought match and the winning margin was a single run. Later in that tournament, Australia were crowned champions.</p>

<p>In September 2017, at an ODI against Australia in Chennai, the hosts had defeated the visitors by 26 runs. Many Indian fans saw this as a fitting response to the 1987 game, at the same venue.</p>

<p>In March 2023, when India and Australia played an ODI in the city, the visitors managed to defeat the hosts by 21 runs and bagged the series 2-1. Such is the legacy of India-Australia ODI games in Chennai!</p>

<p>According to the firm, this crew module structure weighs 3.1 tonnes, measures 3.1 metre in diameter, stands 2.6 metre tall, and is made using a light alloy of aluminium and 15CDV6 steel.</p>

<p>The structure has been built by joining, welding, riveting, and thread fastening more than 100 components. In this form, this structure comprises only the outer shell and not the electronics and avionics components that are to be fitted within.</p>

<p>Queried about a similar crew module structure that ISRO had taken possession from a Hyderabad-based firm in March 2023, Narayan Rao, President, KCP Limited told WION, "ISRO generally sources a similar component from two industry partners. While these are the same product/hardware, there are differences in their manufacturing processes and the materials used. This specific model is designed by ISRO and made by us. The process of manufacturing this took almost a year".&nbsp;</p>

<p>For example, in the second crew module that we are supplying to ISRO, they might suggest some changes based on their learnings from the first one. We will have to keep making the changes, as this is a zero-error astronaut mission that we are working towards, he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Integrated Air Drop Test is one where the crew module shell will be integrated with its associated systems, parachutes etc. This crew module will be underslung on an Indian Air Force Chinook heavy-lift helicopter and it will be carried to an altitude of four kilometres or approx 13,100 feet.</p>

<p>From there, it will be dropped vertically and then it would be slowed down by a set of on-board parachutes and then descend slowly and safely. This is a crucial test, given that this is the final phase of descent for the astronaut-carrying crew module.</p>

<p>It is required to safely splashdown within a designated area in the ocean, from where it will be recovered by designated Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard assets.</p>

<p>In November 2022, ISRO had done a similar drop test using a heavy-lift aircraft of the Indian Air Force. Back then, ISRO did not have a crew module structure at their disposal. Therefore, ISRO dropped a dummy weight similar to that of the crew module and deployed parachutes to slow it down.</p>

<p>"A 5-ton dummy mass, equivalent to the Crew module mass, was taken to an altitude of 2.5 kilometres and dropped using the Indian Air force’s IL-76 aircraft. Two small pyro-based mortar-deployed pilot parachutes, then pulled the main parachutes. The fully inflated main parachutes reduced the payload speed to a safe landing speed as the entire sequence lasted about 2-3 minutes and the payload mass landed softly on the ground," ISRO had said in November 2022.</p>

<p>After being handed over to ISRO officials, the crew module structure is expected to be transported to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, where it would be integrated with its parachutes and other systems. Once that is completed, ISRO would commence the air drop tests of the same.&nbsp;</p>

<p>ISRO's Gaganyaan project envisages demonstration of indigenously-designed and developed human spaceflight capability. It will be done by launching a crew of three Indian astronauts to an earth orbit of 400 km for a three-day mission and then bringing them back safely to earth, by splash-landing in Indian sea waters.</p>

<p>Four Indian Air Force pilots have been screened and handpicked after multiple rounds of scrutiny, to undertake ISRO's ambitious Gaganyaan Human spaceflight mission to Low Earth orbit.</p>

<p>Since India doesn't yet have an exclusive pool of astronauts, the best option was to pick the ideal candidates from the Indian Air Force pilots, who are accustomed to bearing the high-loads of 'g' forces experienced during complex aerial manoeuvres.</p>

<p>All of us on the Earth's surface of the earth experience '1g' force,&nbsp;which is the ordinary pull of gravity.</p>

<p>During rapid acceleration or deceleration of an aerospace vehicle, this force is manifold (denoted by the number preceding the 'g'). Simply put, the phenomenon is referred to as 'g force' or the acceleration due to gravity.</p>

<p>Given the nature of their profession, fighter pilots are trained to take sustained loads of g forces, thereby making them better suited for undergoing training for astronaut missions.</p>

<p>Indian astronaut candidates had already completed a round of training at Russia's Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre and have been undergoing simulator and theoretical training in India.</p>

<p>WION learnt that they even visited ISRO's lead centre Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala's&nbsp;Thiruvananthapuram, earlier this year.</p>

<p>VSSC, which is responsible for conceptualising, designing and developing all space-transportation systems for the country, is preparing the crew module that would house the astronauts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indian Air Force video clip offering a glimpse of the astronaut candidates comes ahead of the 91st Indian Air Force day that is to be celebrated on October 8th.</p>

<p>By the end of this month, ISRO is expected to perform the maiden in-flight abort test of the Gaganyaan crew module. The crew module would be mounted atop a mini-rocket named as 'Test Vehicle' and launched to an altitude of 11-14km.</p>

<p>On reaching the designated altitude and flight parameters, the crew module would be ejected from the rocket and carried to a safe altitude away from the rocket, and then deploy parachutes for&nbsp;a splash down in the Bay of Bengal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This test is similar to a fighter pilot ejecting from a fighter aircraft that is in extreme danger. In the astronaut mission, in case there is an issue with the rocket carrying the astronauts, the crew module would have to eject itself to safety and protect the astronauts nestled within.</p>

<p>This is a crucial test ahead of the maiden unmanned flight of the actual Gaganyaan mission that ISRO hopes to undertake by March 2024. After a series of successful uncrewed flights, ISRO would be undertaking the astronaut mission.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For the thousands of personnel working at the spaceport and the retired personnel staying in the vicinity, the trains that pass by the nearest railway station at Sullurupeta (approximately 25 kms from the spaceport) are the primary means of transport.</p>

<p>A vast barrier island, spanning more than 43,000 acres, Sriharikota rose to prominence only after ISRO established a spaceport there in the 1970s.</p>

<p>Development activities in the region began gradually, as ISRO's spacefaring activities gained national prominence.</p>

<p>However, even today, the highest footfall and vehicular traffic to Sriharikota is seen only when public flock to the ISRO Launch Viewers Gallery.</p>

<p>On most other days, Sullurupeta is just another Indian town.</p>

<p>Highlighting the potential for the Indian Railways in the sector, the letter by SHAR (Sriharikota Range) Employees Trade Union mentions that the Sullurupeta station is a hub from where&nbsp;passengers can travel to the Spaceport, the industrial park cum Special economic zone Sri City, pilgrimage centres like Shri Chengalamma temple, Venadu mosque, and tourist spots like Pulicat lake and Nelapattu bird sanctuary.</p>

<p>Nine trains including the Sanghamitra SuperFast Express, Grand Trunk, Howrah Mail/Chennai Mail, Tatanagar express, among others feature in the list shared by the personnel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Most of the trains that were passing by Sullurupeta were not halting here. Only around once in an hour, does a train stop here. The basic facilities at the Sullurupeta station including waiting rooms and washrooms are in a poor condition and did not even have drinking water" Sri Saidatta, a college student and space enthusiast told WION.</p>

<p>He had taken a train from his native in Warangal, Telengana to Sullurupeta, Andhra Pradesh, on September 2nd, to visit Sriharikota and witness his first-ever rocket launch- that of Aditya-L1/PSLV-C-57.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Even for those in the higher echelons in ISRO, travelling to the spaceport would mean taking a flight from their city to Chennai and then heading on a 3-hour drive to Srihaikota, on a highway that has been under-construction for several years.</p>

<p>While ISRO has made Rocketry and successful launching activity appear so easy (thanks to their meticulous efforts over several decades), everyone travelling by road and train to ISRO's spaceport face the same logistical issues.</p>

<p>The only holy exceptions are for the President and Prime Minister of India, for whom it is possible to fly to the spaceport via helicopter.&nbsp;</p>

India: 'We help take India to space but enough trains don't halt for us', say Spaceport personnel

<p>There are two kinds of satellites that take care of most civilian and commercial needs - the ones that are placed 36,000km&nbsp;above the earth (Geostationary satellites) and the ones that are roughly 1200km&nbsp;above the earth (Low earth satellites). The former enable&nbsp;TV broadcast services, satellite-phone communications and internet connectivity, while the latter beam&nbsp;down high-speed internet that can be used for contemporary purposes such as online gaming, video-conferencing etc. French-firm Eutelsat, which specialises in Geostationary satellites announced a merger&nbsp;with UK-based OneWeb, which specialises in Low Earth orbit satellites. The resultant entity will henceforth be known as Eutelsat Group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This latest deal in the space-based telecommunications sector is being touted as the birth of the world's first GEO (Geostationary Orbit) and LEO (Low Earth Orbit) operator. This merged entity now possesses the power and business potential of being able to provide the aforementioned applications of space technology.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With OneWeb’s network of more than 600 satellites already active and set to be globally operational by end of 2023, the combined GEO-LEO service will open up new markets and applications for customers, including Fixed Connectivity, Government Services and Mobile Connectivity (Maritime and Inflight). Broadcast and video services will remain integral to Eutelsat Group’s business and continue to deliver unparalleled and innovative services for customers, including new IP native video services, at the convergence of broadband and broadcast," the merged entity said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Low Earth satellites orbit the earth at an altitude of 600-1200kms and they travel at high speeds of approximately 28,000kmph. Therefore, a single satellite would be visible from one point on earth only for a handful of minutes, which also means that each satellite offers coverage only over a small area at a time. In order to operate any service from LEO, one would require a fleet of satellites covering the earth and performing a sort of endless relay race - where one takes over after the other. Being close to the earth, it is possible to rapidly beam down internet signals from these satellites and use internet on-board flights, ships and even on the ground for high-speed utilities such as video-calling, online gaming etc.&nbsp;</p>

Explained | Eutelsat-OneWeb merger: Why the union of GEO and LEO satellites is significant?

<p>In the&nbsp;span of three days, fire accidents have affected the Apple iPhone assembly unit run by Taiwanese firm Pegatron and the Japanese firm Yazaki that makes automobile wirings, both of which are situated nearly 60 kilometres from the southern Indian metropolis of Chennai. Located in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu district, the Pegatron and Yazaki facilities are situated a few kilometres apart from each other. In both cases, the blaze was reported at night and is said to have started from an electric short circuit. Of the two, the Yazaki fire appears to have caused more operational and financial damage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Yazaki factory fire began around 8:30pm Wednesday night and went on for two hours, before it was put out by multiple fire tenders. Videos from the site show the severe nature of the blaze and the extent to which the smoke was billowing from the factory. It is said that a shift was underway during the fire accident and all personnel managed to make it to safety in time.</p>

Such frequent industrial accidents don't augur well for these ambitions and the immense potential of a state that ranks second in the State GDP list in India.</p>

<p>In December 2021, near Chennai, more than 150 workers at a Foxconn facility assembling iPhones had fallen ill owing to food poisoning, and they had protested poor facilities at their off-site dorm rooms and related dining facilities. This led to Apple placing the said factory on probation, the state government reacting to the matter and ensuring corrective actions. It was after audits and inspections that the factory resumed operations in January 2022.</p>

Tamil Nadu: Within 3 days, twin fire accidents hit Taiwanese and Japanese factories 

<p>During the initial decades of the Indian space programme, various teams of Indian scientists were learning rocketry by trial and error, as the basic technology behind large rockets was not available in India. Graduating from the foreign-origin experimental rockets (Sounding rockets) that were launched to the Upper atmosphere, ISRO teams built their own Sounding rockets and then moved on to indigenously building small orbital rockets like SLV-3 and ASLV. However, the quest for developing the comparatively much larger and capable PSLV was an all-new ball game, Dr. Madhavan Nair, the former ISRO Chairman reveals in his recently-published autobiography 'Rocketing Through the Skies'.</p>

<p>When the PSLV rocket's (now known as India's workhorse and most-flown orbital rocket) development work was being carried out in the late 1970s and 80s, ISRO teams debated and discussed everything from how many stages the PSLV would comprise, the kind of propulsion technologies it would use and what not. At that time, the PSLV was India's most sophisticated space technological endeavour and Dr. Madhavan Nair then worked as the Associate Project Director of the PSLV.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Narrating an interesting anecdote, Dr Nair recalls how ISRO had decided to use a very rare and sophisticated material for the first-stage motor casing (the structural shell of a rocket) of the PSLV. "The then Director of the VSSC, Dr Brahm Prakash, also an expert metallurgist, decided to use maraging steel, which is five times stronger than ordinary steel, for the PSLV," he mentions. However, maraging steel being a dual-use material posed challenges for ISRO. Given that it found application in rocketry and missiles, the USA, Japan and Britain refused to supply that material to India. Notably, maraging steel is also a brittle material, such that even a minute crack in the material could prove catastrophic for the rocket mission.</p>

<p>"The scientists at ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre led by then Director Dr. Brahm Prakash and Dr. MK Mukherji, collaborated with the public sector unit MIDHANI and developed maraging steel indigenously. Indeed, a feather in ISRO's cap! The same steel later found application in many of our missiles and nuclear weapons," Dr. Nair adds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Likewise, ISRO had to indigenously design and develop a technology known as a 'closed-loop guidance system', which is meant to measure the real-time velocity and position of the rocket and steer it precisely to its destination. This technology also is central to missile development and therefore ISRO teams had to do it entirely in-house, Dr. Nair reminisces. In the autobiography, he narrates the transition from ISRO's modest Thumba era to the Chandrayaan era, as he lived through it all and devoted his life to the cause of the Indian space programme.</p>

<p>Dr Madhavan Nair was the Chairman of ISRO from 2003-09 and his tenure witnessed the success of India's maiden moon mission Chandrayaan-1. He is also a recipient of top Indian Government honours such as the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Former ISRO scientist Jaya G Nair has collaborated with Dr. Madhavan Nair in translating, re-narrating and editing the original autobiography 'Agniparikshakal', which was in Malayalam.</p>

On Sep 18, the craft slingshot itself totally out of Earth's orbit and commenced a journey that would take it to its destination- the Earth-Sun Lagrangian Point 1, which is 1.5 million kilometres away from Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While there are only four crafts that are far apart circling the L1 point, and India's Aditya expected to join them as the fifth in January 2024, it is still necessary to assess the traffic and possible collision risk. "Despite the extremely sparse population in L1 point and the vast separation between them, close approach assessment for an operational spacecraft at Lagrange Point Orbit (LPO) is desirable because of the large positional uncertainty and sensitivity to other perturbative forces," ISRO said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Generally, to determine the orbit of crafts circling Lagrangian Point 1, tracking data collected over a few days is required. The accuracy of the orbit so calculated might not be very accurate. Therefore, ISRO said that they plan to carry out such analysis periodically to ensure safety and avoid any possibility of close approaches with other neighbouring spacecraft, with the support from NASA-JPL.&nbsp;</p>

In case a close approach or risk of collision with another nation's satellite is predicted, then both involved parties take a decision to manoeuvre one or both of their crafts. ISRO to work with NASA and manage traffic around Aditya-L1's destination 

<p>According to the data of the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Vahan Dashboard, more than one million Electric Vehicles(EVs) have been sold in the country so far&nbsp;in 2023.</p>

<p>This totals 10,44,600 electric cars and bikes that were registered with Regional Transport Offices till September 20th. While it took the entire year 2022 to achieve an annual sale of 1 million EVs in the country, the same feat has been surpassed by mid-September 2023, indicating the greater acceptance of EVs in India.</p>

<p>However, there is another significant fact to be noted. More than 40 per cent of the EVs sold in the country were made in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>EV Original Equipment Manufacturers based out of Tamil Nadu have churned out more than 4,10,000 (0.41 million) of the more than 1 million units sold in India&nbsp;thus far this year.</p>

<p>In this regard, the state recently rolled out its EV Policy in 2023, with the insights gathered from leading players in the sector.</p>

<p>The government has been working towards giving a big push to the EV ecosystem, manufacturing of batteries, charging infrastructure, and others. The state is making strides in the EV revolution from the manufacture of cars, buses, and two &amp; three-wheelers, EV cells and motors to charging stations and upcoming future mobility parks.</p>

<p>Six cities in the state, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, and the capital city Chennai, have been identified to develop as&nbsp;EV hubs.</p>

<p>The blaze, resultant smoke and related damage at the Apple iPhone assembly facility run by Taiwanese firm Pegatron is likely to halt assembly operations at the plant for at least a week, sources told WION.</p>

<p>Situated within the Mahindra World City in Chengalpattu district (nearly 60 km from the capital city of Chennai) of Tamil Nadu, the Pegatron facility is capable of assembling almost 20,000 iPhones per day.</p>

<p>The models being assembled here are Apple iPhone 14 Plus and 15 Plus. Considering the average cost of these models to be $1000, the impact of not operating for a day would mean that $20 million worth of phones are not being produced.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The blaze that began on Sunday night is learnt to have been put out in a few hours after the incident was reported. Videos of the incident showed multiple fire tenders and an ambulance at the Pegatron facility.</p>

<p>Personnel working at Pegatron told WION that there are more than 9,000 of them involved in iPhone assembly at the factory and that production activity had not been carried out on Monday. It is understood that the factory works round-the-clock from Monday to Saturday with a schedule off on Sundays. The factory's 24-hour workday is split into three shifts- A (6 am-2 pm), B (2 pm-10 pm) and C (10 pm-6 am).</p>

<p>Nearly 1,000 personnel are learnt to have reported for work at the facility on Tuesday morning. However, the assembly operations were not carried out as the damage assessment and cleaning are underway at the facility.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The blaze began at one assembly hall and from there the smoke spread to the other two assembly halls. Some of the high-tech, imported machinery have also sustained damaged," WION has learnt.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Owing to the above factors, it is said that the resumption of assembly operations could take a week or longer.</p>

<p>When requested for an official response, Pegatron replied to WION: "At the company's factory in Chennai, India, on the evening of the 24th local time, there was a spark incident, which is currently under control. There are no injuries, no casualties nor damage to other assets. The cause of accident is currently under investigations by relevant authority, and the incident does not have significant financial or operational impact to Pegatron Corporation."</p>

Later, after an audit and corrective measures by Foxconn and the intervention of the Tamil Nadu Government, the factory resumed its production activities in January 2022.</p>
