Zero Shadow Day Today: Bengaluru to Witness This Unique Celestial Event

Bengaluru will witness a unique celestial event known as Zero Shadow Day on August 18. This extraordinary phenomenon last occurred on April 25 in the city.

During this occurrence, the sun reaches its peak elevation in the sky, causing objects and individuals to cast no shadows.

This remarkable celestial event transpires twice a year within locations ranging from +23.5 to -23.5 degrees latitude.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, wore a vibrant Rajasthani-style Bandhani turban as he hoisted the tricolour and addressed the nation on 77th Independence Day.

The occurrence causes the sun to reach its zenith in the sky, leading to a significant reduction in the length of shadows, rendering them practically invisible.

When can this phenomenon be best witnessed?

This phenomenon will appear precisely at noon when the sun will be directly overhead.

A nerve-wracking video captured by a passenger showed the moment flames shot out of an engine of a Southwest Airlines jet.

The video was captured&nbsp;aboard a Texas-Mexico flight. In the clip shared on social media, flames start bursting out of the jet in the sky near Houston, forcing the plane to make&nbsp;a hasty but safe landing.

Flight 307 was climbing out of William P. Hobby Airport in Houston en route to Cancun on Tuesday evening (Aug 16) when the right engine erupted in flames, KHOU reported.

The jet experienced a mechanical issue shortly after takeoff, the Dallas-based carrier said in an official statement.

"The aircraft landed safely and was taken out of service for review," the airline said. "A different aircraft continued the flight to Cancun last evening, and we appreciate our customers’ patience and support."

The footage was captured by passenger Ricardo Garcia.&nbsp;

A mechanical engineer named Andrew Sandino, 38 witnessed this moment from the ground. He was leaving for work near Hobby when he looked up and saw flames coming out of the aircraft.&nbsp;

Chandrayaan-3 Lander Vikram Separates from Propulsion Module Successfully

Chandrayaan-3 has successfully completed the crucial phase of separating the Lander Module (LM) and Propulsion Module (PM). The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared the mission update on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (Aug 17).

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is successfully placed into an orbit of 153 km * 163 km, as intended. With this, all the lunar-bound manoeuvres are completed.

The detachment of the two modules - the propulsion module and the Lunar module - is Phase-5 of the Chandryaan-3 mission. Chandrayaan-3 has a total of 10 phases in the mission.

Will Russia's Luna-25 reach the moon before Chandrayaan-3?

The Russian lunar mission has successfully entered lunar orbit and is gearing up for a soft-landing attempt on the lunar surface between August 21 and August 23, which is before the scheduled date for Chandrayaan-3's landing.

ISRO Chairman S Somanath on Chandrayaan-3 mission

Chairman of ISRO, S Somanath, last week exuded confidence and provided reassurance that all systems are operating as planned.

Chandrayaan-3 focuses on achieving three key goals - a secure and gentle moon landing, enabling the rover to traverse the lunar terrain, and conducting scientific experiments in situ.

Bengaluru, situated in India’s southern Karnataka state, is famously known as the ‘Silicon Valley of India’ as it is the country’s leading information technology (IT) exporter. The city is a dream place for every engineer or tech-savvy person in the country. In this IT hub of India, even an auto rickshaw driver knows how to utilise the technology for the better. A 23-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Mandya, a city in Karnataka, stunned his passenger by using his smartwatch to take payment. Netizens loved this ‘Peak Bengaluru’ moment The woman passenger, an X (formerly Twitter) user @waabi_saabi, first posted about it on the social media platform. When her trip ended and it was time for her to pay, the driver flicked his wrist to wake his smartwatch up from the sleeping screen and asked her to scan the (Unified Payments Interface) UPI QR code on his watch. The woman shared a picture of the incident on X and used the “peak Bengaluru” tag, which is used often for posts on Bengaluru city's tech and start-up culture, among other things including "hipster" incidents. “Today I met namma Tony Stark in @nammayatri. India: Bengaluru's tech-savvy auto driver is going viral as he flips smartwatch for QR code payment

After 47 years, Russia is&nbsp;gearing up for its&nbsp;first lunar landing mission,&nbsp;Luna-25, which is nearing the moon. The mission comes at a time when Chandrayaan-3’s landing date is also approaching. Its arrival on the moon's surface could happen in a timeframe that is nearly identical to Chandrayaan-3's or even slightly faster.&nbsp;

As Chandrayaan-3 continues to draw closer to its targeted lunar touchdown, another contender in lunar exploration, Luna-25, the Russian lunar mission launched just last week, has successfully entered lunar orbit and is gearing up for a soft landing attempt on the lunar surface between August 21 and 23. This timing potentially positions Luna-25 ahead of Chandrayaan-3's planned touchdown on August 23.

<h2>When will Russia's Luna-25 land on the moon?</h2>

The launch happened from Russia's spaceport, Vostochny Cosmodrome, 3,450 miles (5,550 km) east of Moscow and was to take considerably less time than India's Chandrayaan-3.&nbsp;

The Russian space agency Roscosmos has told Reuters that its Luna-25 spacecraft would take five days to fly to the moon and then spend five to seven days in lunar orbit before descending on one of the three possible landing sites near the pole.

Earlier on August 8, ISRO chairman S Somanath said that Vikram, the lander of India’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3, will be able to make a soft landing on the Moon's surface on August 23 even if all the sensors and two of its engines do not work.

Roscosmos has said that the two missions would not get in each other's way because they have different landing areas planned, Reuters has reported. "There is no danger that they interfere with each other or collide. There is enough space for everyone on the moon," it said as quoted by Reuters.

India's Chandrayaan-3 is due to run experiments for two weeks while Luna-25 will work on the moon for a year. With a mass of 1.8 tonnes&nbsp;and carrying 31 kg (68 pounds) of scientific equipment, Luna-25 will use a scoop to take rock samples from a depth of up to 15 cm (6 inches) to test for the presence of frozen water that could support human life.

Originally scheduled for October 2021, Luna-25's launch was postponed by over two years. The European Space Agency (ESA) intended to test its Pilot-D guidance camera by mounting it to Luna-25. Chandrayaan-3 vs Russia's Luna-25: Will the two lunar missions get in each other’s way?

Chandrayaan-3, India's lunar mission,&nbsp;has successfully completed the crucial phase of separating the Lander Module (LM) and Propulsion Module (PM). The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared the mission update on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (Aug 17).

The latest phase of the mission, which is Phase 5, was to conduct the separation of the two modules carefully before sending the Lander Module to lower moon orbit.&nbsp;

The ISRO shared a mission update on X, formerly Twitter: “‘Thanks for the ride, mate! 👋’ said the Lander Module (LM). LM is successfully separated from the Propulsion Module (PM). LM is set to descend to a slightly lower orbit upon a deboosting planned for tomorrow around 1600 Hrs., IST.”

Chandrayaan-3 achieves&nbsp;another milestone

The Vikram Lander module of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has been separated from the propulsion module, marking a milestone in India's third lunar mission.&nbsp;

Post its separation, the Lander will undergo a process of slowing down, known as deboost, to place it in an orbit where the Peruline or the closest point to the Moon is 30 km and Apolune or the farthest point from the Moon is 100 km.

Chandrayaan-3, which consists of a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan similar to Chandrayaan-2, does not have an orbiter. Its Propulsion Module behaves like a communication relay satellite. The Propulsion Module carries the lander and rover configuration until the spacecraft is in a 100-kilometre (62 miles) lunar orbit.

<h2>Role of Propulsion Module (PM) after separation&nbsp;</h2>

The propulsion module, other than carrying the Lander and Rover configuration till about 100 km lunar orbit, also carries the Spectro-polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) payload to study spectral and polarimetric measurements of the Earth from lunar orbit.&nbsp;

After separating from the Lander Module, the Propulsion Module will continue to study the Earth's atmosphere for months/years.&nbsp;

The main function of the PM was to carry the LM from launch vehicle injection to the final lunar 100 km circular polar orbit and separate the LM from the PM.

Cloves are best known as a sweet and aromatic spice, but they have also been used in traditional medicine. Here are some impressive health benefits of cloves.

Patients suffering from bronchitis, and asthma are often advised to inhale the smell of cloves for instant relief. Put some cloves on a hot pan and inhale those fumes for opening clogged airways.

Cloves are best for people with high blood sugar levels. Research has found that cloves improve insulin sensitivity and aid in the efficient functioning of insulin.

Clove oil is an effective remedy for dental pain, toothaches, sore gums, and mouth ulcers due to its germicidal properties.

The eugenol in cloves possesses strong anti-inflammatory properties and helps ease pain by stimulating pain receptors in the body.

The compound eugenol present in cloves possesses strong anti-carcinogenic properties and helps control lung cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer in early stages.

People with weak bones and osteoporosis benefit from taking cloves regularly, as they help in increasing bone density and mineral content in bones.

Cloves improve digestion by stimulating enzyme secretions and increasing digestive motility.

Vajpayee was born in a humble family of a school teacher on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior. He entered politics during the Quit India movement in 1942.

He became the Prime Minister for the first time on 16 May 1996 when then-President Shankar Dayal Sharma invited BJP, which was the single largest party, to form the government. The stint, however, lasted for only 13 days.

On March 19 1998, Vajpayee was sworn in as Prime Minister for the second time. After 13 months, the Vajpayee government lost the vote of confidence by one vote on 17 April 1999.

His tenure saw India’s second nuclear test at Pokharan on 11 May 1998. A spate of trade and other sanctions by the US and other countries followed. Despite the nuclear test, Vajpayee reached out to Pakistan through the Lahore bus diplomacy in February 1999.

Just three months later the Lahore bus diplomacy, Pakistan attacked India in May 1999, leading to the Kargil War. The Vajpayee-led NDA won 303 Lok Sabha seats in 1999 and he was sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time on October 13.

Vajpayee did not have very cordial relations with Narendra Modi and had asked him to follow 'raj-dharma' in the wake of the 2002 Gujarat riots. He wanted Modi to quit as chief minister but he survived as LK Advani backed him.

Vajpayee was seen as a secular, moderate leader. He distanced himself from Advani’s 1991 rath yatra and was not present at Ayodhya when the Babri mosque was razed. Later, he said the mosque should not have been destroyed.
