Gadar 2 leaked online? Sunny Deol-starrer film leaked on release date? Fact-check here

The world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, has caught the attention of people worldwide with its amazing features. The ship is 1,198 feet long, which is 316 feet longer than the Titanic and 159 feet wide with a maximum capacity of almost 10,000 people, including passengers and crew.

The ship recently completed its first set of sea trials in preparation for its maiden voyage in January 2024.&nbsp;

<h2>How people reacted to the viral photo of the world’s largest cruise ship</h2>

When an image of the ship went viral in July, it divided people and&nbsp;received reactions from all quarters. While some people were in awe of it, others rained down criticism.

The artist’s impression depicted the fully laden ship in vibrant colours, emphasising its massive water park, featuring record-breaking water slides, and conveying the ship’s extraordinary size and density.

Not everyone interpreted it as a delightful vision of lavish fun and relaxation at sea. It was thrashed as a “monstrosity,” a “pile of decadence,” and one user suggested a better name for it would be “Icon of Disease.”&nbsp;

It was called “intricately tacky and vulgar” and was compared to “being stuck on a floating Walmart” or “a barely balanced stack of full plates of food; chaotic, messy, possibly precarious.”

<h2>Why such polarising&nbsp;views?</h2>

The problem with the viral image is that it is rendered in such a way that many people found it oddly unusual. A professor of psychology at the University of Alabama tells CNN, that the fact that this is a rendering, not an actual photograph, plays a crucial role.&nbsp;

"It almost gives the impression of a short, over-tall, stacked vessel that is on choppy seas, but in reality, this may be a trick of perspective, as the actual vessel is apparently three to four times longer than the idea I get by looking downward at the rendering."

According to Adam Cox, a psychologist and phobia expert, the common description of the Icon of the Seas as “five times larger” than the Titanic may suggest the idea of a potentially larger disaster: “Even more so after the recent tragedy with the Titanic submarine,” he says. “This provokes a protective desire to prevent a similar tragedy.”

The levels on the ship also create a feeling of claustrophobia in some people, he continues, as they will perceive the ship to be a place where thousands are trapped, rather than enjoying a cruise holiday.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced new features for the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) on Thursday. The new changes have the potential to revolutionise the online payment method that will also allow transactions through a conversation with an artificial intelligence (AI) system.&nbsp;

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced these measures while sharing the outcome of the central bank’s bi-monthly policy review. The central bank held the key repo rate steady at 6.5 per cent.

<h2>UPI makeover: What are its new upcoming features?</h2>

RBI on Thursday announced three new features for offline UPI payments.&nbsp;

‘Conversational payments’ on UPI

RBI has proposed to enable ‘Conversational Payments’ on UPI by using AI-powered systems. Users will soon be able to ask an AI-powered system to make payments for them. However, further details on this functionality haven’t been disclosed yet. The feature will initially be available in Hindi and English.&nbsp;

The feature will be available on both smartphones and feature phones-based UPI channels which will be made available in more Indian languages later. Introducing AI to UPI payments is a futuristic idea to incorporate developing technologies into existing technologies.

UPI Lite limit raised

The RBI has raised the transaction limit of UPI Lite to Rs 500 from Rs 200. Launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in September 2022, UPI Lite allows quick small-value transactions by optimising processing resources for banks, thereby reducing transaction failures.

It allowed users to conduct transactions of up to Rs 200 a day without the need for a pin code, which reduced the transaction time. While the transaction limit has been raised to Rs 500 now, the UPI Lite balance ceiling has been left unchanged at Rs 2,000 to contain the risks associated with the relaxation of two-factor authentication.

UPI Lite is available on Paytm, BHIM App, GooglePay and other payment apps.&nbsp;

Offline UPI payments using NFC

Governor Shaktikanta Das also announced offline UPI payments using near-field communication (NFC) technology through UPI Lite. This will make payments easier, as users will only have to tap their smartphone on the point-of-sale (PoS) machine.&nbsp;

“To promote the use of UPI-Lite, it is proposed to facilitate offline transactions using NFC technology. This feature will not only enable retail digital payments in situations where internet or telecom connectivity is weak or not available, but it will also ensure speed, with minimal transaction decline,” the MPC statement said.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)’s effectiveness and accuracy have attracted millions of commoners and researchers alike. One such AI tool, ChatGPT, has recently spearheaded a new trend worldwide, where everyone seems to experiment with the app to generate impressive results by giving simple commands.&nbsp;

In one such curious experiment, Johann Rehberger, a security researcher gave yet another command to ChatGPT in plain English. He coaxed OpenAI’s chatbot to do something sinister: Read his email, summarise it and post that information to the internet.

Rehberger, of course, had no intention to read another person’s email but was using its response as research.

But in the hands of a criminal, this technique could have been used to steal sensitive data from someone’s email inbox, Rehberger said.&nbsp;

The attack wouldn’t have affected most ChatGPT accounts. It worked because Rehberger was using a beta-test feature of ChatGPT that gave it access to apps such as Slack, Gmail and others.

<h2>‘Prompt injection’: A new form of cyberattack</h2>

What Rehberger did with ChatGPT is called ‘prompt injection’ which is a technique of a new class of cyberattacks that are increasingly important as technology companies place a new generation of AI software into their businesses and consumer products.&nbsp;

Prompt injection involves manipulating or injecting malicious content into prompts to exploit the system.

All the AI models are driven by plain language instructions, called prompts that help them create answers that are remarkably accurate.&nbsp;

Some of these instructions tell the AI systems not to do bad things, like reveal sensitive information or say offensive things, but hackers like Rehberger have found unexpected ways to override them.

There has been a surge in prompt-injection attacks since ChatGPT’s release last November. People have used the technique to trick the chatbot into revealing details about how it operates, saying disturbing or embarrassing things.

<h2>Tampering with AI-models</h2>

With the increasing use of AI models, hackers are also improvising themselves to break into these models.&nbsp;

One such form of attack is data poisoning, which is becoming more common and disinformation experts are wary about them. In this method, a hacker tampers with data used to train AI models, causing misleading results.&nbsp;

An AI model that was created to ease human burden can become a new-age tech weapon of hackers, with increasing use of generative-AI systems by technology products.

As Eliezer Yudkowsky, one of the leading AI researchers from the US, once famously said, “The AI does not hate you, nor does it love you, but you are made out of atoms which it can use for something else.”

AI can become hackers' new tool by simply manipulating prompts to computers

It is a science to save life by using temperatures so cold that a person beyond help by today’s medicine can be preserved for decades, even centuries, until some new medical technology in future can restore that person to full health.

Cryonics is based on the belief that a human survives even within an inactive, badly damaged brain, provided the original encoding of memory, can be adequately inferred and reconstituted from what remains.

Total death is the point at which all brain function ceases. Legal death occurs when the heart has stopped beating, but some cellular brain function remains.

James Bedford, an American psychology professor at the University of California, is the first person whose body was cryopreserved after legal death and remains preserved at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation to the present day.

As of 2014, about 250 bodies had been cryopreserved in the United States, and 1,500 people have made arrangements for cryopreservation of their corpses.

As of now, there is no law in India to regulate cryonics.

Cryonics is regarded with scepticism within the mainstream scientific community. It is generally viewed as a pseudoscience, and its practice has been characterised as quackery.

Cryonics: The Science of Immortality?

One of the biggest benefits of swimming is that it truly works your entire body, from head to toe. It tones muscles, builds endurance and increases your heart rate without stressing your body.

The humid environment of indoor pools makes swimming a great activity for people with asthma. The breathing exercises associated with it, like holding your breath, help them expand their lung capacity.

Swimming may have the power to help you sleep better at night. In a study on older adults with insomnia, participants reported a boost in the quality of sleep after engaging in swimming on a regular basis.

Like other forms of aerobic exercise, swimming can improve your cardiovascular fitness. Swimming allows the heart to become stronger and the lungs to become more efficient in utilising oxygen.

A study published in 2003 in the Journal of Psychology found that a single session of swimming improved mood even more than a single session of aerobic dance.

A review published in BioMed Research International in 2020 found that 3 to 6 hours of swimming per week improved bone mineral density in postmenopausal women, especially among long-term swimmers.

The Indian government is exploring the potential of a new technology called, direct-to-mobile (D2M), which would enable mobile users to watch live TV channels on their smartphones without an internet connection. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) and IIT-Kanpur are working on the details, sources said.

Last year on June 1, IIT-Kanpur released a white paper on D2M Broadcasting in collaboration with Prasar Bharti and Telecommunications Development Society, India.&nbsp;In that white paper, D2M was termed as a part of NextGen Broadcast (NGB) that combines multiple existing technologies to bring maximum outcomes.&nbsp;

With over 800 million mobile users in the country, the government aims to harness this technology for content delivery, especially for education purposes and emergency alerts.&nbsp;

However, telecom operators may oppose the proposal as it could impact their data revenue and business plans.&nbsp;

<h2>What is Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology? &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;</h2>

The science behind D2M is similar to that of an FM radio, where a receiver within the device can tap into different radio frequencies. This new-age technology is a combination of broadband and broadcast that uses mobile phones to capture territorial digital TV signals. Using D2M, multimedia content, including live TV matches, can be streamed to phones directly without using the internet.&nbsp;

<h2>What is the need for this technology?</h2>

With increasing consumption of content shifting from TVs to smartphones, it is becoming the key driver of mobile data growth in India. Hence, it becomes crucial to bring direct broadcasting capabilities to mobile phones.&nbsp;

As per IIT-Kanpur’s study, the broadcast-capable smartphones will be able to stream multiple high-quality video/audio services, optimally utilising valuable spectrum and easing the burden on cellular networks.&nbsp;

Hoda Muthana, a US-born Yemeni woman who ran away from home in Alabama at the age of 20 to join the Islamic State (ISIS) group, now wants to return to the States. This has put her into a citizenship controversy as the US government is of the opinion that Muthana “is not and never was a US citizen.”

After returning from ISIS, Muthana has been unable to return to the United States. Her citizenship status remains at the centre of this debate.&nbsp;

Recently, the US Supreme Court refused to hear her case, making it complicated. Muthana’s lawyer, Charles Swift, on the other hand, is imploring President Joe Biden to bring her back to the US, urging&nbsp;“President Biden to do the right thing.”

<h2>Who is Hoda Muthana, an ex-ISIS bride awaiting US citizenship?</h2>

Hoda Muthana, 28, is a US-born Yemeni woman who moved&nbsp;from the States to Syria to join ISIS in November 2014. She surrendered in January 2019 to coalition forces fighting the terror group in Syria. She has been denied access back to the United States after a US court ruling rejected her claim to American citizenship.&nbsp;

As per the court, when Muthana was born, her father was a Yemeni diplomat, making her ineligible for American citizenship by birth.&nbsp;

In December 2014, Muthana married Suhan Rahman, an Australian jihadist who went by the name Abu Jihad Al-Australia. On Twitter, she advocated for terror attacks against civilians in the US and encouraged more residents to travel to ISIS-controlled territory and support the caliphate.

Muthana's husband, Rahman, was killed in Syria in March 2015. She then married a Tunisian fighter and gave birth to a son. Muthana stated that she began to question her allegiance to the caliphate around this time.

In January 2016, the Obama Administration revoked Muthana's passport and stated in a letter that she was not a birthright citizen because her father's termination of diplomatic status had not been officially documented until February 1995.

On 21 February 2019, Muthana's father, Ahmed Ali Muthana, filed an emergency lawsuit, asking the federal government to affirm Muthana's citizenship and allow her to return to the United States.

But in November 2019, a federal judge ruled that she did not have American citizenship.

In 2021, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the District Court, ruling that Muthana is not a US citizen. In 2022, the United States Supreme Court declined to hear her appeal.
