Chandrayaan-3: ISRO Shares First Images of Moon

Chandrayaan-3 entered the lunar orbit on Saturday and is now 20 days away from landing on the moon.

The mission caught sight of the moon during the manoeuvre and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared a video clip of the same.

Chandrayaan-3's Lunar Orbit Insertion phase

ISRO wrote on X, sharing the video clip, "The Moon, as viewed by #Chandrayaan3 during Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) on August 5, 2023".

The images captured by Chandrayaan-3 show the craters on the lunar surface getting larger and larger as the spacecraft inched closer to the moon.

This was Chandrayaan-3's message to ISRO after the required manoeuver, that brought it closer to the moon, was carried out without any glitches.

It will make another manoeuver tonight at 11:00 pm, after which three more operations will be carried out before the final landing of the lander named Vikram.

Bella Hadid recently shared an update on her years-long struggle against Lyme disease. She shared snapshots from the hospital from her ongoing treatment on her Instagram account. Thanking her fans and family for supporting her through these years, Bella wrote on Instagram, “ The little me that suffered would be so proud of grown me for not giving up on myself”, with photos of herself from hospitals.&nbsp;

The 26-year-old supermodel was first diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, a health challenge that is similarly experienced by her family members, including her mother Yolanda Hadid and her brother Anwar Hadid.

Here is what Lyme disease is all about- from symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

<h2>What is Lyme disease?</h2>

Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the United States.&nbsp;

<h2>Diagnosis and symptoms of Lyme disease</h2>

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings like rash, and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks.&nbsp;

These are some early signs and symptoms of Lyme disease after a tick bite:

1. Fever and chills

2. Headache

3. Fatigue, muscle and joint aches

4. Swollen lymph nodes in the absence of rash

5. Erythema migrans rash occurs in approximately 70 to 80 per cent of infected persons

Laboratory testing is considered best for Lyme disease when used correctly and performed with validated methods.&nbsp;

<h2>Lyme disease: Treatment</h2>

Early diagnosis and proper antibiotic treatment of Lyme disease are essential and can prevent late Lyme disease. The selection and duration of antibiotic use hinge on the disease’s stage and potential complications. If the condition is left untreated, the infection can spread to joints, heart and the nervous system.&nbsp;

<h2>Prevention: Preventing tick bites</h2>

As per CDC, reducing exposure to ticks is the best defence against Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections. Several other steps can be taken to prevent and control Lyme disease:

1. Steering clear of tick-prone zones

2. Donning protective clothing

3. Employing insect repellents

4. Conducting regular tick inspections

5. Promptly removing ticks

Chandrayaan-3: All You Need to Know About Moon Mission's Rover

The robotic vehicle is named ‘Pragyan’, which translates to 'wisdom' in Sanskrit. It will gather data on the elemental composition of the atmosphere.

It is designed to function for one lunar day, just like the Vikram Lander.

It weighs about 26 kg and can generate power up to 50 W. The six-wheeled vehicle has instruments configured with payloads to provide data related to the Moon's surface.

The Pragyaan rover consists of two payloads, namely APXS and LIBS, for fulfilling mission objectives.

Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer (APXS) will derive chemical composition and infer mineralogical composition to further enhance our understanding of the lunar surface.

Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) will determine the elemental composition (Mg, Al, Si, K, Ca, Ti, Fe) of lunar soil and rocks around the landing site.

The longest river in Africa, the Nile, looks mesmerising from millions of miles away in space.

The Rio Negro in Argentina is a beautiful example of how mobile some rivers are. The image was taken by astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

The picture taken by the Landsat 7 satellite in 2001, shows the Birdfoot Delta, which the river has inhabited for around 600 years.

Content dogs frequently exhibit a smile with an open mouth, upturned corners, and possibly visible teeth, all without any aggressive connotation.

The image of the river, which runs 400 miles from Colorado through New Mexico, spirals into a beautiful stretch.

Altina’s first job after learning design was with Peter Copeland. She worked with him on a project to design windows for Fifth Avenue stores. It was in this job that she found herself working alongside Salvador Dali.

In her later life, Altina registers many patents for her inventions in the field of design. But her breakthrough came early on when she created and marketed the Harlequin eyeglass frame or the ‘cat-eye’ frame that defined glamour in the late 1930s.&nbsp;

Jamaica-born District Judge Tanya Sue Chutkan is set to preside over the latest case against former United States president Donald Trump for his role in 2020 election interference. Trump is facing a host of charges against him and Chutkan being the Judge of this hearing might add to former President’s problems.&nbsp;

Judge Chutkan, an Obama administration appointee, is considered an old foe of Trump. In 2021, Judge Chutkan rejected Trump’s efforts to prevent his White House records from being given to the Congressional committee for investigation in the Capitol Hill attack.

She rebuked Trump for utilising his executive privilege to hamper the investigation and wrote, “Presidents are not kings, and plaintiff is nor president”.&nbsp;

Judge Tanya Chutkan: Known for tough Capitol riot sentences&nbsp;

Her assignment may worry Trump’s legal team. Over the past two years, the 61-year-old has been known for her harsh sentences for those convicted of participation in the January 6 riots.&nbsp;

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Chutkan moved to the US to attend George Washington University before moving on to law school at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a public defender in DC for a decade before joining private law where she specialised in litigation and ‘white-collar criminal defence’.

In 2014, President Barack Obama nominated her to the US District Court for the District of Columbia. She was confirmed by the Senate in a 95-0 vote. In this role, she has seen dozens of people accused of participation in the January 6 riots appear before her.

Of the 31 defendants who have come before her, Judge Chutkan has sentenced every one of them to at least some jail time, according to a Washington Post tally.&nbsp;

In November 2021 ruling, Chutkan described the Capitol Hill attack as an “unprecedented attempt to prevent the lawful transfer of power from one administration to the next that caused property damage, injuries, and death’.&nbsp;
But that case involved only legal questions about court proceedings and did not require her to rule on Trump’s role in the riot.

In December 2021, she imposed the longest sentence at the time for a January 6 rioter – 63 months in jail for Robert Palmer, a Florida man who sprayed Capitol police with a fire extinguisher.

Trump has a history of attacking judges by seeking to portray them as an “Obama judge” or otherwise biased against him, and Judge Chutkan’s background signals a more liberal-leaning outlook.

Chandrayaan-3: All You Need to Know About Moon Mission’s Lander

The lander is named after Dr Vikram Sarabhai, who is known as the father of the Indian Space Programme.

It is designed to function for one lunar day, which is 14 days on the Earth and comes with several sensors to ensure a safe touchdown.

It weighs about 1,749 kg, including the rover. It has side-mounted solar panels, which can generate 738 W power, and will be engaged in exploring the lunar south pole.

The Vikram lander has three payloads, namely, RAMBHA-LP, ChaSTE, and ILSA, for fulfilling its objectives.

It is designed to measure the near-surface plasma (ions and electrons) density and its changes with time.

ChaSTE or ‘Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment’ will carry out the measurements of thermal properties of the lunar surface near the polar region.

ILSA or ‘Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity’ is meant to measure seismicity around the landing site and delineate the structure of the lunar crust and mantle.
