6 Side Effects Of Ginger That Are Dangerous

The consumption of ginger on everyday basis is known to have some negative effects on the heart. Ginger leads to eyesight problems, heart palpitation and insomnia. A high dose of ginger also results in low blood pressure, which increases the chances of heart attack.

Over consumption of ginger leads to early uterine contractions and hence, it is suggested that women should avoid its excess intake during pregnancy.

Patients suffering from diabetes should avoid over consumption of ginger since it can be harmful. Ginger lowers blood pressure which leads to dizziness and exhaustion.

High consumption of ginger also leads to stomach problems. Ginger increases the production of bile juice and if consumed empty stomach, it leads to excessive gastric stimulation.

Overconsumption of ginger can also lead to diarrhoea or loose motion. Ginger, if consumed excessively, results in heartburn, diarrhoea, burping, and general stomach discomfort.

Ginger’s high consumption also leads to certain allergies. Redness in the eyes, dyspnoea, swollen lips, itching, itchy eyes and rashes on the skin are triggered by ginger’s overconsumption in some people.

7 Side Effects Of Ginger That Are Dangerous

Freezing rain, snow and ice have snarled traffic in central, eastern and southern China as millions of people travel home ahead of the Spring Festival holiday in the blistering cold that has swept through parts of the country over the past week.

Southern Hunan and central Hubei provinces bore the brunt of the severe weather, which deteriorated over the weekend, slowing highway traffic to a crawl, cancelling hundreds of trains and delaying flights.

The disruptions coincide with the biggest mass travel migration in the world as people across the country flock home to see their families for the Chinese New Year holiday, which officially begins on Saturday.

Over the past few days, videos across Chinese social media showed images of people stranded on trains and trapped in cars on snowy highways in several cities, including Jingzhou in the south of Hubei.

One driver was trapped in a car for three days, media outlet Yicai reported, and passengers heading for Wuhan, to the east of Jingzhou, were stuck on a train for hours after power was lost amid freezing temperatures, social media videos showed.

"This weather in Wuhan can drive you crazy, you have to walk 20,000 steps every day to get to work, and then you get home and the power goes out because the wires are down," one user complained on social media platform Weibo.

Hundreds of trains were delayed or suspended, and throngs of passengers stranded at railway stations in Wuhan, local media said. Runways at the Tianhe Airport in Wuhan were temporarily closed Tuesday, state media CCTV reported.

Photos from the China Meteorological Administration showed broken trees scattered across roads in Hunan, felled by freezing rain. In 10 provinces, about 129 sections of highways were closed, according to Beijing News.

At least two people have died in snow-related accidents. One person in Hubei and another from Hunan were killed as awnings in farmers markets collapsed under heavy snow, according to state media reports.

China's Ministry of Emergency Management and two other government departments sent 20,000 disaster relief supply items to Hunan, including thick quilts, according to the China Daily.

The severe weather is expected for another few days, according to China National Emergency Broadcasting. Several cities upgraded weather advisories and emergency response plans.

Provinces including Hubei are clearing ice off power lines, state media reported. Authorities in Hubei said they were clearing out tunnels and bridges, where thick ice has caused choke points.

The province has instructed hundreds of highway toll stations to enforce traffic control measures, including letting vehicles through for free.

China's ministry of finance and ministry of transport issued 141 million yuan ($19.6 million) to support 11 provinces and municipalities for highway snow and ice removal.

China's Central Meteorological Observatory predicted more rain, snow and freezing weather in the south for the first half of this week, but said conditions would improve starting Thursday.

A 30-year-old Indian woman and mother of a two-year-old daughter, who came to Delhi from Darjeeling in January on a lookout for a job, was allegedly raped multiple times by a man on the pretext of marriage, police said on Tuesday (Feb 6).

The victim had befriended the man online and was raped by him at his flat in Neb Sarai in south Delhi.

According to the police, when the woman confronted the accused on February 1, the 28-year-old man attacked her with kitchen utensils and poured hot 'daal' (lentils) on her to torture her, as the woman's daughter watched.

The officers said the suspect had been arrested by them, who they identified as Paras Shahi. The accused was originally from the northern state of Uttarakhand.

The police officers said that the victim had suffered burn injuries on her face and neck, as well as other injuries on her limbs and back, and had been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in the Indian capital.

Speaking to the media about the matter, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said, “We took prompt action and arrested the accused. The two knew each other for 5-6 months. We are investigating the matter.”

The police said the woman was looking for a job and had separated from her husband a few years back.

Nearly six months ago, she met Paras – who is a chef at a Delhi-based restaurant – on a social media platform, and the accused allegedly offered to help her “settle” in the national capital.

After this, the woman came to New Delhi along with her daughter around January 15 and began living at his Neb Sarai flat, said the police.

“The accused promised the woman he would get her a job as a caretaker or cook, but started raping her on the pretext of marriage. Last Thursday (Feb 1), he again raped her. When she confronted him about marriage, he refused and assaulted her with kitchen utensils,” said a senior police officer.

“As the woman started screaming for help, the accused picked up a metal pot with a daal in it and poured it on her. The accused again hit her and locked her in the room,” said the police officer, speaking to media outlets.

Meanwhile, another police officer said that the woman was locked in the room for five hours with her child.

“She managed to find the landlord’s number and called him for help. The landlord then arrived at the flat and helped her out,” the second officer said.

On the basis of her complaint, the police filed a first information report against Paras under sections of assault and rape at the Neb Sarai police station.

Another Indian-origin student dies in United States in fifth such case this year

Scientists in their latest discovery have found a fossilised frog&nbsp;that lived along with the dinosaurs nearly 100 million years ago. What's even more interesting is that this frog's belly is filled with eggs, indicating that it was in the process of mating when it died.

This is the oldest such frog to have been ever found by the scientists. The researchers suggested that the frog is likely to have been killed while mating, while the female is likely to have been drowned by a male which was gripping her.

The frogs do not get pregnant. The female frogs instead develop&nbsp;a batch of eggs which are ready to lay in what is called a "gravid" state. Eventually, the eggs are laid and fertilised by a male.

In a study which was published in the journal Royal Society B: Biological Sciences on February 6, the researchers revealed that the gravid frog, which is from the species Gansubatrachus qilianensis, was discovered in a fossil bed present in northwest China and dates back to the Cretaceous period (145 million to 66 million years ago).

The fossilised frogs, which belong to this period, are very scarce and those having preserved soft tissues are also rare.

The researchers noted that the specimen is more extraordinary still and is a gravid frog's earliest documented record.

<h2 lang="en-US">The frog was still skeletally immature</h2>

The fossilised gravid frog has been compared by scientists with other previously discovered specimens.

The scientists built a high-resolution model of its skeleton with the help of fossils' computed tomography (CT) scans and analysed the composition of its eggs with the use of X-rays.

As per the analysis of the scientists, the frog was still skeletally immature which meant she was able to sexually reproduce before&nbsp;fully developing physically.

Although this is common in various modern animals, previously there was no direct fossil evidence that this was the case for toads and ancient frogs.

Speaking to Live Science, a palaeontologist at Lanzhou University in China and lead author Baoxia Du said, "The evolution of reproduction, especially reproductive strategies, is a very important part of biological evolution.”

“Understanding the reproductive strategies employed by early frogs could offer valuable insights into their complete reproductive history,” he added.

Scientists in their latest discovery have found a fossilised frog that lived along with the dinosaurs nearly 100 million years ago. What's even more interesting is that this frog's belly is filled with eggs, indicating that it was in the process of mating when it died. This is the oldest such frog to have been ever found by the scientists. The researchers suggested that the frog is likely to have been killed while mating, while the female is likely to have been drowned by a male which was gripping her. The frogs do not get pregnant. The female frogs instead develop a batch of eggs which are ready to lay in what is called a "gravid" state. Eventually, the eggs are laid and fertilised by a male. The fossilised frogs, which belong to this period, are very scarce and those having preserved soft tissues are also rare. The researchers noted that the specimen is more extraordinary still and is a gravid frog's earliest documented record. The frog was still skeletally immature The fossilised gravid frog has been compared by scientists with other previously discovered specimens. The scientists built a high-resolution model of its skeleton with the help of fossils' computed tomography (CT) scans and analysed the composition of its eggs with the use of X-rays. As per the analysis of the scientists, the frog was still skeletally immature which meant she was able to sexually reproduce before fully developing physically. Although this is common in various modern animals, previously there was no direct fossil evidence that this was the case for toads and ancient frogs. Watch: Gravitas: First successful embryo transfers in southern White Rhinos Speaking to Live Science, a palaeontologist at Lanzhou University in China and lead author Baoxia Du said, "The evolution of reproduction, especially reproductive strategies, is a very important part of biological evolution.” “Understanding the reproductive strategies employed by early frogs could offer valuable insights into their complete reproductive history,” he added. “As the frog was skeletally immature, the researchers ruled out old age as her cause of death. Environmental factors, such as abrupt changes in water conditions or algae blooms, were also unlikely, as evidence of this would've been apparent in the deposits studied,” said Du. In Pakistan, nearly 128.5 million people have been registered as voters for the general elections which will be held on February 8, as per the latest data.&nbsp;

This number of people registered as voters constitutes nearly half of its population.&nbsp;

As per reports, women in some regions of Pakistan are barred from voting even though the country has the fifth-highest number of registered voters globally, with only India, Indonesia, the United States, and Brazil leading ahead.&nbsp;

The 60-year-old former headmistress Naeem Kausir as well as her seven daughters, six of whom have already been to college, are not allowed to vote by their family's male elders, just like other women in her town.

"Whether by her husband, father, son or brother, a woman is forced. She lacks the autonomy to make decisions independently," said Kausir, who was covering her face using a veil.&nbsp;

"These men lack the courage to grant women their rights," said the widow, while speaking to AFP.

Even though voting is a constitutional right for all adults present in Pakistan, a patriarchal system is still dominant in some rural areas of the socially conservative country as the male village elders wield significant influence on their communities.

"Several years ago, during a period of low literacy rates, a council chairman decreed that if men went out to vote, and women followed suit, who would manage the household and childcare responsibilities," said Malik Muhammad, the village council's member.

"This disruption, just for one vote, was deemed unnecessary," he added.&nbsp;

The legislature of the north Indian state of Uttarakhand tabled a bill on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on Tuesday (Feb 6).&nbsp;

Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has been leading this move, on Monday (Feb 5) said that the proposed UCC will not only be "for the good of all sections" but will also align the &nbsp;'Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikas' (development for everyone) and 'Ek Bharat, Sreshtha Bharat' (one, great India) vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is legislation aimed at a singular socio-cultural code for all communities irrespective of religion or caste.&nbsp;

Retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai headed the government-appointed panel which drafted a four-volume, 749-page report that contains many recommendations.&nbsp;

<h2>What suggestions did the panel receive?</h2>

A total of 233,000 written feedback forms were collected by the panel online and it hosted more than 70 public forums.

The members of the government-appointed panel, during these meetings, involved nearly 60,000 people who helped in developing the draft. &nbsp;

The UCC contains different proposals which include a complete ban on polygamy as well as child marriage. It also proposes a uniform process for divorce and a standardised marriageable age for girls across different faiths.&nbsp;

The UCC's recommendations, which are aimed at fostering gender equality as well as social cohesion, will be discussed during the special four-day assembly session which started on Monday (Feb 5) and continued till Thursday (Feb 8).&nbsp;

The UCC draft includes different facets of civilian life as recommendations include mandatory marriage registration, an extension of inheritance rights, as well as increasing the marriageable age for girls and facilitating girls' pursuit of education before their marriage.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, in an attempt to push for legal documentation, couples who do not register their marriages will be considered ineligible for government facilities.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the Uniform Civil Code recommend?&nbsp;</h2>

Although the specific recommendations included in the draft document of the Uniform Civil Code remain undisclosed, the media reports suggested that the UCC will establish a legal framework which encompasses marriage, divorce, land, property, and inheritance laws, which will not be affected by the religious affiliations.&nbsp;

The Uniform Civil Code if enacted will make Uttarakhand the first state in post-Independence India to have adopted it, after Goa where it has remained operational since the days when the Portuguese ruled the territory.&nbsp;

Uttarakhand's proposed UCC goes beyond religious boundaries and everyone's adoption rights, which includes Muslim women.&nbsp;

The UCC seeks a ban on practices like halala and iddat - which are Islamic practices that women are supposed to go through after the husband's death or divorce - and promotes simplification of adoption procedures and the declaration of live-in relationships.

The practice of iddat was in the headlines of Pakistan's media days back after its former prime minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Khan was accused of not waiting for the completion of the waiting period after getting divorced from her former husband and married Khan in 2018.

The Scheduled Tribes, which constitute 3 per cent of Uttarakhand's population and population control measures have not been included in the draft.

The UCC's other key features include the removal of distinctions between illegitimate and legitimate children, equal treatment to adopted and biologically born children and equal property rights for sons and daughters.&nbsp;

If a person dies, as per the proposed UCC, his spouse, children, and parents will get equal property rights, which is a move ahead from previous laws which limited such rights.

The UCC seeks a ban on practices like halala and iddat - which are Islamic practices that women are supposed to go through after the husband's death or divorce - and promotes simplification of adoption procedures and the declaration of live-in relationships. Watch: Uttarakhand: Uniform Civil Code bill to be tabled in assembly on February 6th The practice of iddat was in the headlines of Pakistan's media days back after its former prime minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Khan was accused of not waiting for the completion of the waiting period after getting divorced from her former husband and married Khan in 2018. The Scheduled Tribes, which constitute 3 per cent of Uttarakhand's population and population control measures have not been included in the draft. The UCC's other key features include the removal of distinctions between illegitimate and legitimate children, equal treatment to adopted and biologically born children and equal property rights for sons and daughters. If a person dies, as per the proposed UCC, his spouse, children, and parents will get equal property rights, which is a move ahead from previous laws which limited such rights.
