In case of any natural disaster, teams from Jammu and Kashmir Police, NDRF, SDRF, BSF and CRPF have been deployed at all the critical junctures for both routes so that help can reach out to Yatris as soon as possible in case of any emergency.

We also have many technologies to detect unknown objects, besides that we have drones. Traffic arrangements would be made comfortable for tourists and Yatri's. There would be some time regulations we would be advertising soon so that tourists and Yatri's are aware, and their security aspects are taken care of without comprising their travel plans. We have taken all security measures with regard to the recent attacks, we have incorporated all the measures," Birdi told WION.&nbsp;

''It is a major concern. The melting of glaciers if you look at Indian Himalayan glaciers, it's already under the adverse effect of climate change. We are seeing most of the himalayan&nbsp;glaciers melting. They were because of the impact of the increase in the temperatures, and the outcome of the climate change,"&nbsp;said Shakil Romshoo, VC, Islamic University Science and Technology.&nbsp;

"Now recently what we have seen is the heatwave is becoming an annual issue, every year we are witnessing the heat waves in south Asia. If we look at mainland India and Pakistan the temperatures have touched above 50 degrees. This has a big impact on the glaciers. We have been monitoring the change and melting in the last five years in terms of the length, breadth and thickness of the glaciers. This is a major concern as we call it the water tower of Asia."

"800 million people are dependent on this for drinking water, agriculture, horticulture, power generation, and every sector of the economy. We have said that going by this rate, 70 per cent of the glaciers if the current trend of climate change continues, will vanish by the end of this century," he added.

Horticulture and Agriculture are the major contributors to the GDP of Jammu and Kashmir. Most of the valley's agriculture and horticulture land depends on the melting of snow on higher reaches which fills up the streams and rivers. Data has revealed that Kashmir Valley has lost over 30,000 hectares of agricultural land in ten years.&nbsp;

''It may not impact the water availability&nbsp;in a day or months, but it will happen slowly. The change in winter precipitation has been below normal. The winter precipitation replenishes&nbsp;the water bodies, and this is not happening due to less precipitation. Autumn is the most hit as the water hits the lowest. We normally used to stay around 5-6 feet and now the same water level remains below zero. The water shortage is already in Srinagar and many other parts of the valley due to it, '' said Faizan Arif, weather analyst and forecaster.&nbsp;

The erratic melting of these glaciers in the higher reaches will also impact the power generation in these areas. Experts believe the water scarcity in the region could have an adverse impact on the hydroelectric power projects. Jammu and Kashmir Police had recently killed Lashkar Terrorist Riyaz Dar and Rayees Dar in an operation and had busted a group of Over the Ground Workers in the same district.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police had earlier said that ''Following the encounter of LeT commander Reyaz Dar and his associate Rayees Dar on 3/6/24, during further investigation, Puwamal police recovered 02 IEDs weighing 06Kgs from the OGW network of the slain militants. 03 arrests have been made for providing shelter and logistics support.''

The case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is being assisted by the State Investigation Agency of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The teams have collected all the evidence from the attack spot.

LG of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who also heads the Unified Command, held a meeting today with regard to the security situation in the Union Territory.

The meeting was attended by the top officials of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, CRPF and BSF. The LG also stressed the security of the Upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is starting on June 29.&nbsp;

According to the security forces, a multi-level security system has been planned for the Amarnath Yatra.

Adequate security arrangements have been made on both the routes from Jammu to the holy cave.

According to sources, the central government has deployed 30,000 additional CRPF security personnel for multi-level security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra.

According to an estimate, about 60,000 security personnel will be deployed on both the routes from Jammu to the cave, Pahalgam and Baltal.

The latest technologies and equipment will be used to make the Yatra foolproof, journey safe and easy.

Technology has been upgraded, which also includes the use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards.

All the pilgrims who come will be tagged. Which will know the position of the pilgrims, apart from this UAV, CCTV cameras will also be used.&nbsp;

The technology will play a key role in the three-tier security system in Amarnath Yatra security. Quadcopters, NVD, anti-drone teams, and bomb disposal squads are part of the security scenario.&nbsp;

Reasi Attack: Security forces launch massive manhunt to nab terrorists

After the recent attacks including the Reasi terror attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police held a high-level security review meeting ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and Mela Kheer Bhawani.

Mela Kheer Bhawani festival is scheduled to be held on June 12 and security has already been beefed up across the region. The meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Police's IG also stressed on proper security arrangements for the Eid Ul Adha which is to be celebrated on June 17.

Meanwhile, Security forces have formed a total of 11 teams in Reasi after the terror attack that will investigate the case and will be working on two different axes.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir police have some leads and inputs that these teams are acting upon.

According to officials , half a dozen people have been detained for questioning in the case. The NIA team led by a DIG visited the area to take stock of the situation as well.

On July 10, 2017, a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims was attacked in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Seven pilgrims were killed in the attack while over a dozen were injured. Most of them belonged to the Gujarat state of India. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had said that the attack was carried out by terror outfit Lashkar Toiba.

July 2006

In 2006, one more attack took place in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. A grenade was lobbed at a bus carrying Amarnath Pilgrims at Beehama area in Ganderbal resulting in injuring five pilgrims. The attack was not owned by any terror outfit.

One of the biggest attacks on the Pilgrims took place in the year 2002. There were two attacks by the terror groups in 2002. The first attack took place on July 30 in Srinagar when a grenade was lobbed at a taxi carrying pilgrims. Two pilgrims lost their lives in this attack. The second attack took place in South Kashmir's Pahalgam area at the Nunwan base camp. Nine people lost their lives in the attack while over two dozen were injured.

The year 2001 was also one of the deadliest with regard to the pilgrims visiting the Amarnath Cave. Terrorists used two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) to carry out the attacks on pilgrims at Sheshnag Lake near the Amarnath Cave. Thirteen people died and over a dozen were injured in the attack. The causality not only included the Hindu pilgrims but also three Muslim civilians and two security personnel.

Around 32 people were killed in 2000 in the Pahalgam area of Amarnath Base Camp after a mass shooting by terrorists. The attack was also carried out by Lashkar e Taiba and is by far considered to be the deadliest. In the attack 21 Hindu pilgrims, seven Muslim shopkeepers and porters and three security officials were among the victims.

Abu Hamza, a 32-year-old Pakistani terrorist, has a bounty of one million Indian rupees on his head. He has been active in the Rajouri Poonch belt for the last two years.

Sources say it was a group of terrorists that infiltrated through the LoC and International Border in the Jammu region. Abu Hamza has been responsible for multiple attacks in the region in recent times.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police had said that it was Abu Hamza who was responsible for the attack on the convoy of Indian Air Forces on May 4. He was the main attacker in the killing of a government employee by the name of Mohammad Razaq on April 22 in Rajouri.&nbsp;

Sources in the security forces say that Abu Hamza was trained in a camp by the Pakistan army before being sent to Jammu and Kashmir. He infiltrated with another terrorist by the name of Fauji who is said to be a former commando of the Pakistan army. The whole group has infiltrated together and have been actively carrying out attacks in the region.&nbsp;
