If reports are to be believed,&nbsp;Israel's spies and military commanders held late-night meetings to discuss a likely attack by Hamas and the threat being faced by the Supernova music festival, just hours before the assault was carried out on October 7.&nbsp;

As per the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the first meeting was held close to midnight and the second around 3 am (local time). However, those who attended the meetings concluded that a training exercise was being held by Hamas on the Gaza border and that they were not preparing for a terror attack.&nbsp;

The warnings weren't taken as seriously and the Israeli troops were asked to increase drone surveillance flights and a unit known as “Team Tequila” - &nbsp;which was trained specifically to prevent abductions - was deployed to Nahal Oz, a kibbutz close to the border with Gaza. The officials also alerted two commando teams about the possibility of an incursion.

However, no warnings were given to the organisers of the Supernova festival which was being held near Kibbutz Re’im, just three miles from Gaza, where eventually 360 people were killed and around 40 were taken hostage.

The organisers said that if the warning was given to them even an hour before the attack took place, they would have been able to carry out the evacuation of the site.

The festival was organised in close cooperation with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and was approved by the northern brigade of the Gaza division.

The army units on duty were not aware of the festival which was being held near the border.

When the organisers of the event called the IDF on the morning of the massacre, they were asked to fend for themselves, according to the report.&nbsp;

The IDF reached the site of the festival by around 3 pm (local time) and by then, the surviving festivalgoers had fled or played dead for hours.

Last week, the Department of Justice announced charges against 52-year-old Nikhil Gupta, an Indian citizen who has been accused of orchestrating the attempted murder of Pannun, with an unnamed Indian government employee.

“We’ve seen disturbing allegations against an Indian government official for involvement in planning to assassinate a US citizen in New York who was critical of the Indian government,” said Senator Ben Cardin, chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, as quoted by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).&nbsp;

The “US citizen in New York” that the Democrat from the US state of Maryland was referring to was the Khalistani terrorist who recently also threatened to blow up the Indian Parliament on or before December 13, the anniversary of the 2001 parliament attack, in response to the foiled assassination plot. Pannun says he is a dual citizen of the US and Canada.&nbsp;

In response to Washington’s concerns over the assassination attempt, New Delhi, around mid-November set up a high-level panel which will investigate the allegations.&nbsp;

Tim Kaine, a Democrat from Virginia called the allegations against India for targeting Sikh separatists “highly disturbing” and said this is “not the behaviour of a respectable democracy.”&nbsp;

“We’re dealing with a nation that we have such strong connections to,” Kaine added, saying that New Delhi and Washington have strong military and economic connections and called the Indian American diaspora “an important part of who we are as a country”.&nbsp;

<h2>US should not hesitate</h2>

Freedom House, a pro-democracy non-profit, released a report which found that since 2014, at least 26 nations including China, Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia have targeted journalists abroad with “transnational repression”.&nbsp;

He also spoke about how Washington should not hesitate to raise the issue “directly at the highest levels” with countries “even when those perpetrators are close partners such as Saudi Arabia and India”.

Since the allegations against an unnamed Indian official’s involvement in the alleged plot to kill Khalistani terrorist surfaced, the White House has said that the row will not have an impact on larger India-US ties.

The fourth GOP debate was replete with churlish jibes and whataboutery&nbsp;as the Republican candidates, instead of discussing national pressing issues, were seen going at each other, diverting people’s attention from Donald Trump’s absence from the debate who had skipped the event to focus on fundraising in Florida.

On Wednesday, four Republican presidential candidates— Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie— tried to go one up against each other in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in a last-ditch attempt to secure the second spot in the last primary debate a month before the Iowa caucuses.

"Nikki will cave to those big donors when it counts," said DeSantis, who was the best-funded candidate in the race.

He also took jibes at Haley saying that as South Carolina's governor she was the "No. 1 ranked" chief executive on bringing Chinese investment into her state.

DeSantis accused Haley of backing down from media criticism, saying “She caves anytime the Left comes after her, any time the media comes after her."

While Ramaswamy suggested she was too close to corporate interests as she gets new attention from donors.

Haley deftly parried&nbsp;these jabs, turning some back on DeSantis and Ramaswamy.

"They’re just jealous. They wish they were supporting them,” Haley said of her new donors.

Even though Trump was absent, candidates, except&nbsp;Christie, spoke at length about him, repeatedly expressing their support for the former president, who remains the No.1 choice of Republican voters.

Ramaswamy, was at his cheeky best, throwing one-liners at his rivals.

"All three of them have been licking Donald Trump's boots for years," he said.

The 56-year-old, according to the police, is the owner of the duplex and the person who is believed to have fired a “flare-type gun” from inside the house more than 30 times.&nbsp;

The police were called around 4:45 pm (local time) on Monday after reports of a man firing a flare gun from inside the house located on the 800 block of North Burlington Street. It was after failed attempts to establish contact with Yoo, that police obtained a search warrant.&nbsp;

Around 8:30 pm (local time), as officers were attempting to execute the search warrant and tried to enter the home, multiple gunshots were fired from within the house, said Penn. Subsequently, the house exploded, the police chief added.&nbsp;

The officers in the vicinity escaped with minor injuries but no one was taken to the hospital. The police&nbsp;also evacuated nearby residents around 7:00 pm (local time), including people who lived in the other part of the duplex.&nbsp;

The fire was brought under control around 10:30 pm (local time), according to media reports. Nate Hiner, a spokesperson for the Arlington Fire Department, said that the fire officials do not know the cause of the explosion.&nbsp;

<h2>Yet to identify human remains</h2>

Penn said that investigators have not yet identified human remains found inside the home but “all factors point to that it’s this individual,” referring to Yoo.&nbsp;

Arlington County police spokesperson Ashley Savage said it was unclear what happened to the suspect who was inside the building during the blast. She also said that the police did not find any evidence that others were in the duplex but could not rule out the possibility.

The report, citing a source familiar with the intelligence, said that as per current US assessments, Israel simply cannot maintain its level of high-intensity operations indefinitely, particularly with mobilised reservists.&nbsp;

This has also been attributed to the fact that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has also had to protect the country’s northern border from near-daily attacks by Lebanon-based Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah since the beginning of its war with Hamas.&nbsp;

Therefore, Israeli forces will likely need to transition to more targeted raids once they have cleared as many Hamas militants in Gaza as they can, reported CNN citing the source.
