The operation was conducted to eliminate political opposition and left-wing activism across the region.</p>

<p>Peter Kornbluh, senior analyst at the US' National Security Archive, reportedly highlighted Kissinger's disregard for human rights, noting that he embraced repressive regimes as strategic pawns in the global chessboard of the Cold War.</p>

<p>A pregnant woman, her husband and daughter&nbsp;were hit by a 15-foot (4.5-metre) concrete wall that collapsed in their neighbourhood due to the shaking of the ground.</p>

<p>As they were trying to flee their house in Tagum City, the wall collapsed on them, city's disaster mitigation chief Shieldon Isidoro told The Associated Press, adding that her husband and daughter are getting treated for their injuries.</p>

<p>Two children and their parents in the neighbourhood, however, escaped after they jumped from the second-floor window in panic, said Isidoro, who was at his home when the ground started to shake.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In Bislig City&nbsp;of Surigao del Sur province, a 30-year-old man died&nbsp;when a wall in&nbsp;his house collapsed on top of him, said local disaster official Pacifica Pedraverde.</p>

<p>“Initially the swaying was weak. Then it quickly became stronger and I could hardly stand. My perfume bottles fell off the table, pictures on my wall swung and I heard people screaming outside: 'Get out, get out, earthquake, earthquake!'” Isidoro was quoted as saying.</p>

<h2><strong>No major infra damage&nbsp;so far&nbsp;</strong></h2>

Pregnant woman among two dead, nine still missing after earthquake in Philippines

<p>During a dramatic eruption,&nbsp;Indonesia's Marapi volcano which is situated in West Sumatra province unleashed a plume of volcanic ash reaching a staggering 3,000 metres (9,843 ft) into the sky.</p>

<p>Media reports quoting the country's disaster management agency BNPB said that the&nbsp;eruption occurred at 2.54 pm local time (0754 GMT).</p>

<p>The volcanic eruption was accompanied by the forceful dispersion of volcanic ash over nearby districts, leaving roads and cars coated in a layer of ash. This was seen in images released by BNPB, Reuters reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In response to the eruption, authorities have implemented strict safety measures, prohibiting residents and visitors from engaging in any activities within a 3-kilometre radius of the volcano's crater.</p>

<p>The alert level for Marapi mountain has been raised to the second-highest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The man was then chased by the police and attacked two other people with a hammer before he was arrested.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The suspect had shouted out "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) and told police he was upset because "so many Muslims are dying in Afghanistan and Palestine" and was also upset about the Gaza situation, Interior Minister Darmanin said.</p>

<p>He added that the 26-year-old had been sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning another attack was on the French security services' watch list, and was also known for having psychiatric disorders.</p>

<p>The anti-terrorism prosecutor's office said it was in charge of the investigation. French President Emmanuel Macron condoled the death of the German national, and thanked security forces&nbsp;for their quick arrest of the attacker and said that justice should be served in the name of the citizens.</p>

Later, Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko confirmed that he had cancelled the permission of Poroshenko to leave the country. Korniyenko said that although lawmakers were permitted to travel to attend party political events, he had received a letter because of which he had to cancel the permission granted for Poroshenko's trip. In a statement posted on X, Coast Guard officer Jay Tarriela said that on Nov 13, the PCG monitored 111 Chinese Maritime Militia (CMM) swarming the area of Julian Felipe Reef, and this number increased to 125 based on the last monitoring of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tarriela said that in response to this alarming development, authorities directed the PCG to carry out a maritime patrol to challenge and document the illegal presence of the CMM in Julian Felipe Reef.</p>

<p>The Julian Felipe Reef is located 175 nautical miles west of Bataraza, Palawan. It is considered a low-tide elevation within the territorial sea of relevant high-tide features in the Kalayaan Island Group, including Chigua Reef, over which the Philippines has sovereignty.</p>

<p>This development comes two days after the Philippines built a new coast guard station on the Thitu Island in the South China Sea. The country's outpost of the island is its biggest and most strategically important in the South China Sea.</p>

<p>Thitu lies about 480 kilometres west of the Philippine province of Palawan. The island is home to about 200 people and is used by Manila to maintain its territorial claim.</p>

<p>The three-storey Coast Guard station, inaugurated on Friday, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as radar, automatic identification, satellite communication, and coastal cameras, the PCG said in a statement.</p>

<p>During a visit to Thitu, Philippine National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano said, "The behaviour of the Chinese Coast Guard, People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy and Chinese militias are sometimes unpredictable."</p>
