Jack Teixeira, who is accused of leaking highly classified US government intelligence and other documents on social media, has pleaded guilty before a federal district court judge in Boston on Monday (Mar 4), said local media reports.&nbsp;

The news agency AFP reported that Teixeira, who was a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, has agreed to plead guilty to all six counts of willful retention and dissemination of national defence information.&nbsp;

The 22-year-old Teixeira pleaded guilty under a deal in which he accepted a roughly 16-year imprisonment in return for prosecutors dropping more serious espionage charges.&nbsp;

He was arrested in April for allegedly orchestrating the most damaging leak of US classified documents in a decade, some of which concerned the war in Ukraine.&nbsp;

He faces no espionage charges under the Espionage Act, otherwise he could have been imprisoned for life.&nbsp;

During the hearing, he was asked by the presiding judge if he had any issues with the evidence, and Teixeira responded no. He was again asked if he knew the materials were classified, and he said, "Yes, your honour."&nbsp;

In what came as a massive embarrassment for Berlin, alleged call recordings of the German defence forces over the Ukraine war were posted on Russian social media by a state-backed journalist. Margarita Simonyan, the head of the Russia Today (RT) channel, posted the audio clip on her telegram channel, allegedly featuring German officers “discussing how to strike the Crimea bridge”, which links Russia to the Ukrainian peninsula.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reacted to the potential leak of sensitive communication by saying that a full investigation will be launched soon. Calling the leak “very serious,” Scholz said it was “now being clarified very carefully, very intensively and very quickly”.

A spokesperson for the German defence ministry suggested a conversation in the air force division was “intercepted.”

“We are currently unable to say for certain whether changes were made to the recorded or transcribed version that is circulating on social media,” the official told the news agency AFP.

<h2>The ‘leaked’ audio file</h2>

Officials talking on the alleged military call appear to be discussing the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Kyiv. Ukraine has long demanded Berlin supply it with the missiles but Scholz has rejected it publicly so far.

The officials can also be heard talking about potential military targets and the training of Ukrainian soldiers.

A section of German media was later reporting that the said military conversation took place on WebEx platform, and not on a secret internal army network, making it easier for Russia to intercept.

<h2>Political temperature soars</h2>

The alleged call recording, 38-minute-long, has set the cat among the pigeons in German politics, with top political leaders expressing grave concerns.

Roderich Kiesewetter, from Germany’s opposition conservatives, warned that further recordings might also be leaked.

<h2>'Children starving to death in northern Gaza hospitals'&nbsp;</h2>

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday that an aid mission to two hospitals in northern Gaza found horrifying scenes of children dying of starvation, amid shortages of food, fuel and medicines.&nbsp;

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency's visits over the weekend to the Al-Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals "were the first since early October 2023 despite our efforts to gain more regular access to the north of Gaza".&nbsp;

The findings were "grim", he said on X, adding that "the situation at Al-Awda was particularly appalling, as one of the buildings is destroyed".&nbsp;

The Kamal Adwan hospital, the only paediatrics hospital in northern Gaza, was overwhelmed with patients, he said.

"The lack of food resulted in the deaths of 10 children," Tedros said.&nbsp;

"We conclude that states may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But states have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the presidency," the unsigned opinion for the court stated.

Following the court's ruling, Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social, "Big win for America."

In Colorado, Trump's eligibility was challenged by six voters who portrayed him as a threat to American democracy and sought to hold him accountable for the Capitol Hill riots. This group of voters included four Republicans and two independents.

In its ruling against Trump, Colorado's Supreme Court cited the general atmosphere of political violence that he created as president, and that he aided "the insurrectionists' common unlawful purpose of preventing the peaceful transfer of power in this country."

The European Union on Monday (March 4) hit iPhone maker Apple with an antitrust fine of over 1.8 billion euros ($1.95 billion) for preventing music streaming services like Spotify from informing users about payment options outside its App Store.

The European Commission said it "found that Apple applied restrictions on app developers preventing them from informing iOS users about alternative and cheaper music subscription services available outside of the app".

"This is illegal under EU antitrust rules," the EU's powerful antitrust regulator said.

"Apple's conduct, which lasted for almost ten years, may have led many iOS users to pay significantly higher prices for music streaming subscriptions because of the high commission fee imposed by Apple on developers and passed on to consumers," it further added.

Swedish music streaming service Spotify lodged a complaint in the year 2019 which triggered a broad commission probe into the firm in 2021. However, Brussels narrowed its investigation last year to focus more on Apple's actions of barring applications from providing users with information about rival music subscription options.

"For a decade, Apple abused its dominant position in the market for the distribution of music streaming apps through the App Store," Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager said in a statement.

"We have ordered Apple to remove the necessary provisions and to refrain from similar practices in the future," Vestager told reporters.
