For over 300 years, the sacred Tirupati laddu has symbolised purity and divine offering made in the name of Lord Venkateswara.
But that faith has now been shaken with the uncovering of the fake ghee scam. The Supreme Court-appointed SIT has uncovered a massive ₹250 crore scam, where adulterated ghee laced with industrial oils and chemicals was supplied to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) for years. The investigation revealed that a fake dairy in Uttarakhand that never procured milk but made “ghee” from palm oil and chemicals, and that blacklisted suppliers floated proxy firms to win fresh tenders.
