On 30th of January, 2024, just 8 days before the Pakistan general elections, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf or PTI, were sentenced to 10 years in prison. This was in connection with the highly significant cipher case, where they were charged with leaking state secrets.
