No touching: Covid leaves its mark on Ash Wednesday in Latin America

The pandemic has left its mark on churches in Mexico and Colombia, with a no touching rule in place on Ash Wednesday (February 17). In pre-pandemic times priests would apply ash to the foreheads of faithful in the sign of a cross, on a day that marks the first day of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer and fasting for faithful.
