A massive fire swept through the Saganoseki district of Oita city in southwestern Japan, destroying approximately 170 buildings and killing one person. The blaze, which began amid strong winds, forced over 175 residents to evacuate to emergency shelters. Thick smoke and flames also spread to nearby forested slopes and a nearby uninhabited island.
