Bulgaria’s traditional Kukeri carnival has returned with vibrant costumes, ritual dances and loud bells as performers take to the streets to symbolically chase away evil spirits and welcome the arrival of spring. The centuries-old festival is rooted in ancient folklore and is believed to bring health, fertility and prosperity to communities across the country. Villages and towns have come alive with colour and sound as Bulgaria celebrates one of its most iconic cultural traditions.
