<p>The incident transpired in August 2019 when&nbsp;Philana Holmes took her son and daughter to a&nbsp;Tamarac McDonald’s and bought the Happy Meals. However, she received no warning that the food might be scalding. <p>Her daughter, identified in court as Olivia Caraballo, an autistic child who was four years old at the time, did not testify during the trial. However, according to&nbsp;Holmes' version, she did not realise at first why her daughter was screaming in the back. <p>Both the photo and the audio were presented during the trial. The attorneys representing the fast-food giant, however, argued that food had to be hot to avoid&nbsp;salmonella poisoning. They added that&nbsp;nuggets were not meant to be pressed between a seat belt and human flesh for more than two minutes.</p>

<p>Though both sides agreed that the nugget was the cause of the burns, the family's lawyers argued that the temperature was above 93 Celsius while McDonald's said it was no more than 71 Celsius.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The US state of Missouri has become the latest to approve a ban on gender-affirming healthcare for transgender people. The GOP lawmakers also approved a bill wherein transgender girls and women will be banned from playing in female sports teams.</p>

<p>The gender-affirming care ban is expected to take effect from August 28 under which transgender minors won't have access to puberty blockers, hormones or gender-affirming surgery. The restrictions will affect some adults, such as prisoners and inmates, who will be unable to avail of any gender-affirming care as Medicaid health care won't cover the procedure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A little more than 10 days after the North Dakota Senate lawmakers passed a bill to ignore the pronouns the transgender students use, Republican Governor Doug Burgum on Monday signed it into legislation. Under the new law, public schools and government entities are prohibited from requiring teachers and employees to refer to transgender people by their pronouns.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, it prohibits transgender individuals from using the bathroom of their choice without prior approval from a parent or guardian. Under the law, teachers will be mandated to tell parents/guardians about their ward if they identify as transgender.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Burgum stated that the new law “largely codifies existing practices while reaffirming the First Amendment right to free speech...balancing the rights and interests of students, parents and teachers.”</p>

<p>However, opponents of the law argued that the Red state was violating students' constitutional rights. They added that children could face dangerous repercussions if an abusive parent did not approve of their gender orientation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Mandatory outing of a student’s trans identity violates their privacy rights at school – particularly for trans youth who cannot be safe at home," Cody Schuler, advocacy manager of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Dakota was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"And creating a supportive working and learning environment also requires treating people with dignity and respect, including – at a minimum – calling them by the name and pronouns they want to use. These are both unlawful and discriminatory practices.”</p>

A little more than 10 days after the North Dakota Senate lawmakers passed a bill to ignore the pronouns the transgender students use, Republican Governor Doug Burgum on Monday signed it into legislation.

A little more than 10 days after the North Dakota Senate lawmakers passed a bill to ignore the pronouns the transgender students use, Republican Governor Doug Burgum on Monday signed it into legislation. Under the new law, public schools and government entities are prohibited from requiring teachers and employees to refer to transgender people by their pronouns. Additionally, it prohibits transgender individuals from using the bathroom of their choice without prior approval from a parent or guardian. Under the law, teachers will be mandated to tell parents/guardians about their ward if they identify as transgender. Burgum stated that the new law “largely codifies existing practices while reaffirming the First Amendment right to free speech...balancing the rights and interests of students, parents and teachers.” However, opponents of the law argued that the Red state was violating students' constitutional rights. They added that children could face dangerous repercussions if an abusive parent did not approve of their gender orientation. “Mandatory outing of a student’s trans identity violates their privacy rights at school – particularly for trans youth who cannot be safe at home," Cody Schuler, advocacy manager of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Dakota was quoted as saying by The Associated Press. "And creating a supportive working and learning environment also requires treating people with dignity and respect, including – at a minimum – calling them by the name and pronouns they want to use. These are both unlawful and discriminatory practices.” WATCH | US to control land sales to foreigners near 8 military bases × Burgum and North Dakota's clampdown on transgender rights This is not the first instance where Burgum has signed a bill restricting the rights of transgender in the state. Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting an 'unspeakable tragedy' but refrained from commenting on Biden's plea to ban assault weapons. “I have been in contact with Mayor Fulk and DPS Director McCraw as well as other state and local leaders and offered the full support of the State of Texas to local officials to ensure all needed assistance and resources are swiftly deployed, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources,” he said. More shootings than days in 2023 The United States has witnessed over 190 mass shootings so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The statistic becomes all the more damning when one realises there have been more mass shootings than days in 2023. The archive tracked more than 647 mass shootings in 2022 while the number stood at 690 in 2021. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

<p>A nine-member Reparation Task Force in the US state of California on Saturday voted to approve recommendations that could mean hundreds of billions of dollars in payments to Black residents for injustices of the past.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to some economists, the proposal,&nbsp;if implemented, could cost the exchequer as much as $800&nbsp;billion (2.5 times the annual budget of California) for decades of over-policing, disproportionate incarceration and housing discrimination.&nbsp;</p>

India, US, Saudi Arabia and UAE to develop joint railway infrastructure: Report

<p>A Pennsylvania man found guilty of felony assault and other charges for pepper-spraying police officers outside the US Capitol was sentenced on Friday to 14 years behind bars, the longest prison term to date for anyone convicted in the riot of January 6, 2021.</p>

<p>Peter J. Schwartz, 49, was convicted last December at a trial in federal court where evidence showed he was in the vanguard of a mob attacking police at the lower west terrace of the Capitol and boasted later that he had "started a riot" by "throwing the first chair."</p>

<p>Prosecutors said Schwartz then seized a police duffle bag full of pepper-spray canisters and handed them out to others in the mob, including his wife, so they could turn them against police officers.</p>

<p>According to the government's case, Schwartz began chasing down any retreating officers he could find and dousing them with pepper spray as he surged through the crowd into the lower west terrace tunnel wielding a wooden club.</p>

<p>A welder by trade, Schwartz was arrested in early February in his hometown of Uniontown, Pennsylvania.<br />
Schwartz and two co-defendants, Jeffrey Scott Brown and Markus Maly became the first three individuals convicted at trial of assaulting police officers with pepper spray on January 6.</p>

<p>Brown, of Santa Ana, California, was sentenced last month to four and a half years in prison. Maly, of Fincastle, Virginia, is awaiting sentencing. Schwartz's wife, Shelly Stallings, received a two-year prison term last month.</p>

<p>Schwartz was found guilty on four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and six other charges, including obstructing an official proceeding, entering a restricted building with a dangerous weapon and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building.</p>

A Pennsylvania man found guilty of felony assault and other charges for pepper-spraying police officers outside the US Capitol was sentenced on Friday to 14 years behind bars, the longest prison term to date for anyone convicted in the riot of January 6, 2021.

A Pennsylvania man found guilty of felony assault and other charges for pepper-spraying police officers outside the US Capitol was sentenced on Friday to 14 years behind bars, the longest prison term to date for anyone convicted in the riot of January 6, 2021. Peter J. Schwartz, 49, was convicted last December at a trial in federal court where evidence showed he was in the vanguard of a mob attacking police at the lower west terrace of the Capitol and boasted later that he had "started a riot" by "throwing the first chair." Prosecutors said Schwartz then seized a police duffle bag full of pepper-spray canisters and handed them out to others in the mob, including his wife, so they could turn them against police officers. According to the government's case, Schwartz began chasing down any retreating officers he could find and dousing them with pepper spray as he surged through the crowd into the lower west terrace tunnel wielding a wooden club. A welder by trade, Schwartz was arrested in early February in his hometown of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Schwartz and two co-defendants, Jeffrey Scott Brown and Markus Maly became the first three individuals convicted at trial of assaulting police officers with pepper spray on January 6. Brown, of Santa Ana, California, was sentenced last month to four and a half years in prison. Maly, of Fincastle, Virginia, is awaiting sentencing. Schwartz's wife, Shelly Stallings, received a two-year prison term last month. Schwartz was found guilty on four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and six other charges, including obstructing an official proceeding, entering a restricted building with a dangerous weapon and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building. <p>Alireza Akbari, the British-Iranian dual national and former Iranian deputy defence minister was executed earlier this year by Tehran over accusations of espionage. Now, a detailed report by the New York Times confirms that Akbari was indeed a British spy and had been leaking Iranian nuclear secrets since 2004, managing to hide his activities for a 15-year long period.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing three Western intelligence and national security officials, the report claims that it was in 2008 that a senior British intelligence officer went to Tel Aviv and informed Israeli officials about the mole they had planted with access to Iran's nuclear secrets. The officer forwarded&nbsp;Akbari's investigation which stated that Iran had been enriching uranium at a secret underground site at Fordow, 20 miles northeast of Qom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the G20 summit in Pittsburgh&nbsp;the following year, the then US President Barack Obama made the revelations public, sending shockwaves across the world. The report by Akbari was the reason Tehran was made a pariah state with hefty economic sanctions imposed on it - the effects of which are still being felt by the West Asian country.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports,&nbsp;Akbari's inputs also played a prominent role in the assassination of Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh who was killed in 2020 by Israeli special forces.</p>

<h2><strong>Russia helped Iran track&nbsp;the mole</strong></h2>

<p>The report claimed that Iran finally managed to get hold of Akbari after receiving assistance from Russian intelligence officials. However, the publication&nbsp;did not make it clear how Moscow managed to make the discovery.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"He [Akbari] appeared to get away with it until 2019, when Iran discovered with the assistance of Russian intelligence officials that he had revealed the existence of a clandestine Iranian nuclear weapons program deep in the mountains near Tehran, according to two Iranian sources with links to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards," read the report.&nbsp;</p>

Alireza Akbari, the British-Iranian dual national and former Iranian deputy defence minister was executed earlier this year by Tehran over accusations of espionage.

Alireza Akbari, the British-Iranian dual national and former Iranian deputy defence minister was executed earlier this year by Tehran over accusations of espionage. Now, a detailed report by the New York Times confirms that Akbari was indeed a British spy and had been leaking Iranian nuclear secrets since 2004, managing to hide his activities for a 15-year long period. Citing three Western intelligence and national security officials, the report claims that it was in 2008 that a senior British intelligence officer went to Tel Aviv and informed Israeli officials about the mole they had planted with access to Iran's nuclear secrets. The officer forwarded Akbari's investigation which stated that Iran had been enriching uranium at a secret underground site at Fordow, 20 miles northeast of Qom. At the G20 summit in Pittsburgh the following year, the then US President Barack Obama made the revelations public, sending shockwaves across the world. The report by Akbari was the reason Tehran was made a pariah state with hefty economic sanctions imposed on it - the effects of which are still being felt by the West Asian country. According to reports, Akbari's inputs also played a prominent role in the assassination of Iran’s top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh who was killed in 2020 by Israeli special forces. Russia helped Iran track the mole The report claimed that Iran finally managed to get hold of Akbari after receiving assistance from Russian intelligence officials. However, the publication did not make it clear how Moscow managed to make the discovery. "He [Akbari] appeared to get away with it until 2019, when Iran discovered with the assistance of Russian intelligence officials that he had revealed the existence of a clandestine Iranian nuclear weapons program deep in the mountains near Tehran, according to two Iranian sources with links to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards," read the report.
