A family in the United Kingdom was left stunned after they spotted a two-legged fox while out on a walk. The fox, which was captured on camera, was able to walk and run despite only having two legs. Phil Carter and his wife spotted the fox in their lawn on Christmas, before they took out their mobile phones to capture the rare, once-in-a-lifetime moment. News of the two-legged fox quickly spread on social media, with many people expressing their surprise and admiration for the animal's determination and resilience. It is not uncommon for wild animals to be born with physical abnormalities, and it is possible that this fox was born with only two functioning legs.

Despite its disability, the fox appeared to be healthy and was able to move around without any difficulty. It is a testament to the adaptability and survival instincts of wild animals, who are able to thrive even in challenging circumstances.

While it is not known how the two-legged fox will fare in the long term, it is clear that it has been able to overcome its disability and live a full and active life. The encounter serves as a reminder of the incredible strength and resilience of nature, and the importance of preserving and protecting the natural world.

Several patients in the United Kingdom (UK) were shocked after they received a text message on Christmas Eve from a doctor's surgery that they have advanced lung cancer, instead of wishing them Merry Christmas.

"Diagnosis -- Aggressive lung cancer with metastases. Thanks," the text message from the Askern Medical Practice, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, read, according to a report by The Sun on Wednesday. The message added one of the doctors at the clinic asked the patients for DS1500 - a form that patients with a terminal illness used to claim benefits.

Twenty minutes later, Askern Medical Practice issued an apology saying, "Please accept our sincere apologies for the previous text message sent. This has been sent in error."

"Our message to you should have read. We wish you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," the fresh message added.

Chris Reed, one of the recipients of the lung cancer message, told The Sun that he had been waiting for his lung cancer test results.

A property developer by profession, Reed, 27, said his partner started crying when the text message on Christmas eve came. He tried calling the clinic but the lines were jammed. Reed then visited the clinic and was reassured by a doctor that his results were negative.

The Askern Medical Practice has not issued any comment so far.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing criticism for an awkward conversation with a man during his volunteer work at a soup kitchen in London on Friday.

While serving breakfast to people at a shelter, run by the Passage, a man asked Sunak, "Are you sorting the economy out?" Sunak then said that is "exactly what I'm trying to do".

The British prime minister then asked the man if he works in business, and the man replied that he was homeless. "I wouldn't mind, but I don't know, I'd like to get through Christmas first," the man further said.

The conversation didn't end there as the man said he was interested in business. His reply led Sunak to ask him about the kind of business he is interested in.

China has decided to remove six officials from the United Kingdom over the controversy surrounding the alleged assault on a protester in front of their consulate in Manchester. British foreign minister James Cleverly said that the officials were all questioned by the local police about the incident.

A protester was allegedly beaten up by officials who came out of the Chinese consulate in Manchester during a protest. The protest was held by pro-Hong Kong democracy activists and people condemning the corruption in government while the Communist Party congress was underway in Beijing. The congress ended with President Xi Jinping winning a third term.

With National Health Service (NHS) nurses staging a strike in Britain for better wages and working conditions, health minister Steve Barclay said on Thursday that their pay demands are unaffordable given the economic pressures.

The nurses have demanded a pay rise of 5% plus inflation, arguing that they have suffered 10 years of real-terms cuts and that low pay means staff shortages and unsafe care for patients. The government has said their pay demand would equate to a 19% hike.

British health minister says pay demand of nurses unaffordable amid strike

United Kingdom's Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch will be in Delhi from today as the 6th round of FTA negotiations between the UK and India begin. Both sides are working on an ambitious trade pact that aims to ease customs duties on goods.

World Business Watch | UK trade Secretary Kemi in Delhi to hold sixth round of FTA talks

The United Kingdom last month claimed that the government has secured new free trade deals with over 70 countries since 2016 (since Brexit). In a Twitter post, politician Michael Gove also claimed via an infographic that the trade is over £800bn worth of new free trade.

Now, a statistics watchdog in the UK has called out the Conservatives, stating that claim is misleading.

According to the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA), the £800bn figure also includes the roll-over agreements which continued pre-Brexit trade arrangements.

The issue was raised when the Scottish National Party (SNP)'s trade spokesperson Drew Hendry, wrote UKSA to complain about the Tory graphic.

While responding to the complaint, UKSA chair Sir Robert Chote replied in a letter that he thought the £800bn figure referred to £559bn in net trade with EU countries last year and around £245bn in post-2016 deals with around 70 non-EU countries.

Chote stated that the information shared by Michael Gove on Twitter is "misleading to describe the £800bn figure as a measure of ‘new global trade' resulting from the recent deals".

As quoted by UK-based media outlets, he added: "That would imply that there had been no trade with these countries before the recent deals and that there would be none now without them."

He also said that the Tory party was contacted to get details as he mentioned that there was no source for the figure "so the public can verify the numbers".

"We have spoken to the Conservative party and asked that any future communications include a link or reference to the source of statistics," he said.

He also issued a warning that the party should provide sources for such figures in the future. It’s International Trade Week - and just to confirm - I don’t think people in this country have had enough of exports pic.twitter.com/fdP9TgbnmA — Michael Gove (@michaelgove) November 2, 2022 × While responding to the complaint, UKSA chair Sir Robert Chote replied in a letter that he thought the £800bn figure referred to £559bn in net trade with EU countries last year and around £245bn in post-2016 deals with around 70 non-EU countries. Chote stated that the information shared by Michael Gove on Twitter is "misleading to describe the £800bn figure as a measure of ‘new global trade' resulting from the recent deals". As quoted by UK-based media outlets, he added: "That would imply that there had been no trade with these countries before the recent deals and that there would be none now without them." He also said that the Tory party was contacted to get details as he mentioned that there was no source for the figure "so the public can verify the numbers". "We have spoken to the Conservative party and asked that any future communications include a link or reference to the source of statistics," he said. He also issued a warning that the party should provide sources for such figures in the future. "Under the principles of intelligent transparency, we would expect the infographic to include a source for the figure so that the public can verify the numbers, understand the definitions used and put the data into context," Chote wrote to Hendry. Watchdog calls out the Conservatives for sharing 'misleading' information regarding post-Brexit trade deals

The British government’s plan to award more than 130 new licences for North Sea oil and gas exploration has run into trouble once again. Several environmental groups have called the move “unlawful” in accordance to the existing laws and they also pointed out that this will directly lead to the expansion of fossil fuel being produced by the United Kingdom. The groups have already written to Grant Shapps – the business minister – in an attempt to reverse the decision to award the licences.

The UK government decided to give the green light to the country’s first new coalmine in over 30 years to be built in Whitehaven in Cumbria. While the decision was taken in 2021, it has not been widely accepted and ministers are also facing a legal challenge questioning the validity of the decision.

Eddie Jones's roller-coaster ride as England coach came to an end on Tuesday when he was sacked by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) following a review into their November series that ended with the team being booed off the pitch at Twickenham.

Eddie Jones's roller-coaster ride as England coach came to an end on Tuesday when he was sacked by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) following a review into their November series that ended with the team being booed off the pitch at Twickenham. That rare supporter reaction to a comprehensive 27-13 defeat by a weakened South Africa - and Jones's subsequent comment that he did not care what anybody else thought - appears to have been the final straw for the anonymous panel that sat to review the tests, that also included defeat by Argentina, a draw against New Zealand and victory over Japan. After announcing his dismissal, the governing body said: "The RFU will now conclude the long-term work it has been undertaking on coach succession planning with changes set to be announced in the near future. In the interim, (forwards coach) Richard Cockerill will take over the day to day running of the men's team." England won only five of their 12 games in 2022 after a second-successive Six Nations where they lost three of their five games. Yet Jones, 62, who led Australia to the 2003 World Cup final and Japan to their shock victory over South Africa in 2015, continued to insist they were on the right track for next year's global tournament, his number one, and seemingly only, priority. Jones, who took over after England's group-stage exit from the 2015 tournament they hosted, had a contract until the end of next year's World Cup in France. Despite the continuing struggles on the pitch, the Australian insisted that after he had got his squad together for a three-month training camp next summer they would reveal a whole new attacking structure and emerge as serious contenders to lift the Webb Ellis Cup for a second time. While that "jam tomorrow" approach might well have been an accurate summation, the RFU seem to have decided that they could not sacrifice every other aspect of the national team's performance to get there. Widely ridiculed Following this year's Six Nations, which brought defeats by Scotland, Ireland and France, RFU head Bill Sweeney was widely ridiculed for saying there were signs of solid progress. Following the dispiriting Springbok defeat he sounded far less supportive when pointedly saying of the fans' opinions: "It matters to us how they feel". In a statement on Tuesday, Sweeney said: "It is important to recognise the huge contribution Eddie has made to English rugby, winning three Six Nations Championships, one Grand Slam and taking us to a Rugby World Cup final. He has the highest win ratio of any England head coach and has helped develop the leadership skills of many players and coaches. "I am grateful to Eddie for the professional way in which he has approached reviewing the performance of the team. He has provided the panel with astute insight and meaningful lessons that will support the team performance." Jones said: "I am pleased with much that we have achieved as an England team and I look forward to watching their performance in the future. Many of the players and I will no doubt keep in touch and I wish them all well in their future careers." England's decline over the last three years is in sharp contrast to the success that Jones brought in the aftermath of the 2015 group-stage exit. The highest-paid coach in international rugby, he initially oversaw a record run of 18 straight test wins, with a Grand Slam achieved at the first attempt and a hugely impressive first 3-0 series whitewash in Australia. Things started to drop off in 2018 when England lost six games in a row but with a change in his assistants - a constant theme of his tenure - they roared back at the following year's World Cup. The semi-final victory over New Zealand was widely acclaimed as England's greatest-ever performance, though the joy was short-lived as they were brushed aside in the final by South Africa. Since then it has been a bumpy road, with fans and media tiring at his selection inconsistencies and endlessly upbeat rhetoric that was made to look ever more unjustifiable against the proven progress of European rivals Ireland and France. The world is fast moving towards using Electric vehicles, powered by Lithium-ion batteries, to wean itself off its dependence on fossil fuel. But hold on! A recent report published by BBC has set the alarm bells ringing by blaming the same lithium-ion batteries for causing too frequent life-threatening fires and explosions. Local authorities in the United Kingdom have revealed that batteries thrown in household rubbish bins cause about 700 fires every year in dustcarts and waste-processing centres, costing firefighters and waste operators some $160 million every year.

People’s ignorance blamed for the battery-related fires

Lithium-ion batteries indeed have become a preferred alternative for the world to power daily-use household items, from brushes to toys to mobile phones, over the last two decades. However, the concerns and threats linked to this trend have started to emerge now. Experts have blamed people’s ignorance for this worrying trend, as they tend to mix battery waste with regular household waste, thus denying the opportunity to waste operators to properly dispose off or recycle them.

BBC News quoted Ben Johnson, from the Environmental Services Association (ESA), as saying, "More and more people were putting devices containing these batteries in with household rubbish" or mixing them with other recycling. Now, some local NGOs are helping people find their nearest recycling centre under the initiatives to enlighten people.

Why mixing battery waste with regular household waste is lethal?

Ben Johnson further explained why the mixing of lithium batteries with regular household waste is not just dangerous but lethal too. He said, “That causes a real problem, because they have a tendency - when damaged - to explode or ignite. That can cause them to short-circuit. And of course they're then in the presence of other flammable material like plastic, paper and card and that can lead to quite big fires."

Lack of clear rules and guidelines

Experts also blame unclear rules and guidelines regarding the disposal of lithium batteries for the burgeoning menace. Fire safety experts were quoted by BBC as saying that clearer rules will guide people on how to deal with battery waste and help authorities recycle as much battery waste as possible in a safe manner.

James Whale, the TalkTV and TalkRadio host, has said he has terminal cancer. The radio host, 71, made a moving address at the British Curry Awards in London on Monday night and discussed his battle with cancer. Two years after revealing he was battling cancer that had spread to his brain, spine, kidney, and lungs, James said he only has a few months to live.

He was speaking with the attendees at an event where he said, "I know a lot of you won't like me, but this time next year I won't be here. I have terminal cancer. As you might be able to hear, I am having chemotherapy which makes it harder for me to breathe, but I'm OK. Don't worry".

"I am in my 70s now and I just want to say don't waste your time on stupid things that don't matter", he said. "25 years later I've got it again. I'm 71 and I've had a great life."

James continued by mentioning his buddy Enam Ali, the man behind the British Curry Awards, who passed away recently from cancer. "He was one of my best mates, he showed us that as communities we can all get on together. For that tonight I would like to give you a round of applause."

The TalkTV host continued saying, "When I'm on my TV or radio show, people might go: 'Oh, he's a bit controversial, I just want people to live together and stop being so b****y stupid all the time. Because when you get to 70, some of you will know, you can look back at your life and think 'maybe you could have done that differently'."

He presented a brave front for the event even amid this devastating news. On the red carpet, the radio personality waved at cameras and posed with his wife of one year, Nadine Talbot-Brown. In his most recent The Express column, James also discussed his cancer diagnosis and his sympathy for Jonnie Irwin of the British TV series 'A Place In The Sun.' Notably, Jonnie Irwin is also battling the terminal disease, as per The Mirror.

He wrote, "I found it very difficult to talk about mine because I didn't want people to think I was using it to get sympathy or for any other reason. But along with a number of other people in the public eye, I am at stage four. There is no stage five."

"I don't want sympathy; I've had a good life but I do find talking about it helps me and although that might sound selfish, hopefully it helps others too. Jonnie, mate, I wish you the best of luck. It is very difficult and you're a lot younger than me. But I did start this journey 25 years ago.

James Whale had a kidney removed in 2000 when doctors discovered a tumour, and that was 20 years ago. James experienced a blow when his wife Melinda passed away in 2018 following a lung cancer fight. His popularity skyrocketed when James established himself as the Leeds presenter of The James Whale Radio Show in the 1980s. For 13 years, the radio host was well-known on talkSPORT. Later, in 2016, he appeared in Celebrity Big Brother.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak delivered his first major foreign policy speech in London on Monday (November 28) as he called out China, stating that UK's "golden era" of ties with Beijing was over.

Sunak further warned that China posed a "systemic challenge" to UK "values and interests". He said that the nation needs to shift its approach towards China as Beijing was "consciously competing for global influence using all the levers of state power".

In reference to former finance minister George Osborne's stance on Sino-British ties in 2015, Sunak said: "Let’s be clear, the so-called 'golden era' is over, along with the naive idea that trade would lead to social and political reform."

The prime minister said that the UK recognises that "China poses a systemic challenge" to our values and interests. Sunak described the challenge as something that grows "more acute as it moves towards even greater authoritarianism".

Sunak said: "We cannot simply ignore China's significance in world affairs - to global economic stability or issues like climate change. The US, Canada, Australia, Japan and many others understand this too."

"So together we'll manage this sharpening competition, including with diplomacy and engagement," the British PM added.

The British government has instructed its various departments to not install surveillance cameras manufactured by Chinese firms at its buildings. The decision was taken amid reports of security risks posed by such companies as part of a cyber tactic adopted by China. Cabinet Office minister Oliver Dowden said in a written statement to parliament that the decision was taken following a review of "current and future possible security risks associated with the installation of visual surveillance systems on the government estate."

The British government has instructed its various departments to not install surveillance cameras manufactured by Chinese firms at its buildings. The decision was taken amid reports of security risks posed by such companies as part of a cyber tactic adopted by China. Cabinet Office minister Oliver Dowden said in a written statement to parliament that the decision was taken following a review of "current and future possible security risks associated with the installation of visual surveillance systems on the government estate." The Queen has been laid to rest and the people have gone back to being blindly led once again by an institution that can only be described as decadent, lavish, greedy and above the law in the United Kingdom of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The Queen is dead! Long live the King! For a moment it felt like I was transported back in time to medieval Britain, where a clear, privileged, and defined hierarchy ruled these islands. Nothing much has really changed since those glory days of Great Britannia! The general public is still in awe of this racist and colonial institution, oblivious to its past history of murder, looting, and genocide in all its colonies. This institution is alone responsible for the murder and killing of over 100 million innocent civilians in their former colonies including India and the indigenous populations of America, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. This ‘achievement ‘is conveniently excluded from their history books taught at schools and other educational institutions. That’s why it comes as no surprise when well-meaning, “educated” Brits are shocked at any view or opinion that says otherwise. The queen is looked upon as God, to be fair she is the equivalent of the Roman Catholic Pope, being self-appointed the Head of the Church of England. The trappings of the Monarchy are embedded in every aspect of British society and culture and by royal decree, laws are made and changed while Prime Ministers are appointed and sacked. All in what the British believe is a functioning democracy where one family holds sway over all.

The much loved “Great Britain” name tag will go soon, along with the monarchy and the establishment who have ruled and maximised their wealth for centuries at the expense of the poor and working classes on this island and around the world during colonisation. Even during the Empire days citizens on these islands were living in squalor and abject poverty. Many people want to go back to the glory days of this country, where rivers were flowing with milk and honey and the “we are the good guys” image which is so conditioned and brainwashed into the minds of the British psyche from early childhood. Accurate history is not taught in this country but a very sanitised, pleasant version of it, mainly focusing on the grandeur of the monarchy for diversions and World War II.

This nation removed the kings and queens of the lands it conquered through deceit in the name of bringing democracy to the world but is still hanging on to its outdated traditions! A beacon of democracy that conveniently does not have a written constitution. Such hypocrisy! But why are we still so gullible and can’t see the obvious truth of where the power lies in this nation? Many people I personally know, support this outdated practice and institution and the cost to us the taxpayers. These very same individuals slam people on benefits, migrants, and food-banks, but are happy to give millions away to the queen and the extended royal family all in the name of tradition or a tourist attraction! This always proved my point that education does not necessarily mean you are aware or informed but conditioned to believe in an obvious lie. People want to go back to the glory days of the empire without fully understanding the true meaning of this statement. This country is responsible for all the major flashpoints around the world today. That’s the legacy of the empire and the monarchy, having committed mass genocide, looting of resources, and cultural decimation from which these countries are yet to recover.

Politicians who get elected see themselves as servants to the queen, not the electorate who voted for them in the first place. They take an oath to protect the queen (now king! And their heirs and successors!) Unbelievable! They then go about maintaining the status quo at the expense of people dying because of benefit cuts, food banks or parents having to starve in order to feed their children.

It’s time for action and it already looks like the new King will not have an easy ride like his mother the “Beloved Queen”. Here is hoping that real change finally comes to the land that decimated countries around the world in what is known as its glory days of the empire where the sun did not set; but now has to, in order to move forward as a truly democratic nation.

Why the monarchy has no place in 21st century Britain

Meta, the parent company of social media platform Facebook, is facing a lawsuit in the UK that accused the tech giant of collecting the personal data of users in order to create targeted advertisements. Human rights campaigner Tanya O’Carroll has alleged in the suit that Meta has violated UK data laws by not agreeing to her prior request regarding the use of her data. According to The Guardian, she requested the company to stop collecting her data when she uses the application.

“This case is really about us all being able to connect with social media on our own terms, and without having to essentially accept that we should be subjected to hugely invasive tracking surveillance profiling just to be able to access social media,” O’Carroll told BBC in a radio interview.

In a United Nations review of its human rights record, the United Kingdom was subjected to a torrent of inquiries and criticism on its immigration and anti-poverty measures on Thursday amid claims that it is regressing on freedoms.

Even though criticism is a regular part of the UN process that occurs every few years, observers said the level of scrutiny of one of the most well-known democracies in the world from such a wide spectrum of nations, including allies, was noteworthy.

The London plan to transfer asylum seekers who arrive in Britain to Rwanda to combat an inflow of refugees and migrants on its southern coast was one of the problems brought up at the UN meeting in Geneva.

The deal, according to Luxembourg's ambassador Marc Bichler, violates international law and "risks causing irreversible injury to persons seeking international protection."

In written comments, the close ally United States questioned the practise and questioned how it could guarantee the safety of those sent to other nations.

"The fact that so many states made recommendations addressing the UK's backsliding on human rights at home and abroad, its treatment of people seeking asylum, and its undermining of international standards shows their grave concern," Emilie McDonnell from Human Rights Watch told Reuters.

"We can only hope this global spotlight leads the UK to change course."

Buckling under heavy pressure, Conservative leader Sir Gavin Williamson on Tuesday resigned as a government minister, a little more than a fortnight after his appointment into the Rishi Sunak cabinet.

Taking to Twitter, Williamson posted a letter where he stopped short of apologising for his actions but said the controversy was impacting the working of the government and thus he decided to resign.

"As you know, there is an ongoing complaints process concerning text messages I sent to a colleague. I am complying with this process and have apologised to the recipient for those messages," read the letter.

"Since then, there have been other allegations made about my past conduct. I refute the characterisation of these claims, but I recognise these are becoming a distraction for the good work this government is doing for the British people," added Williamson.

The Tory leader said he was stepping back from the government so that he could "comply fully with the complaints process that is underway" and clear his name.

What is the controversy?

The controversy dates back to the time when Theresa May resided at 10, Downing Street. As the defence secretary, Williamson intimidated a senior civil worker in the Ministry of Defence and asked them to “slit" their throat and suggested that they 'jump' out the window.

The particular allegation comes in the backdrop of Williamson's former deputy Anne Milton in a TV interview stating his behaviour in the office was "threatening" and "intimidating".

"On one occasion, we had an MP who'd got a few financial problems, some financial help was given. It wasn't a great amount, but I do remember him asking me to give the MP in question the cheque," said Milton.

"And he waved it under my nose and said: 'Make sure when you give him this cheque he knows that I now own him'."

Milton who worked in the Tory whips' office between 2016 and 2017, also added that 46-year-old Williamson loved to engage in salacious gossip which often turned sexual in nature.

"There were a few - the salacious gossip, which I've talked about, people's sexual preferences, that sort of thing. He loved all that. He would come into the office and say, 'Guess who enjoys some form of sex or another'."

I refute the characterisation of these claims, but I recognise these are becoming a distraction for the good work this government is doing for the British people," added Williamson. WATCH | UK Minister Gavin Williamson misconduct allegations; PM Rishi Sunak stands by him The Tory leader said he was stepping back from the government so that he could "comply fully with the complaints process that is underway" and clear his name. "And he waved it under my nose and said: 'Make sure when you give him this cheque he knows that I now own him'." Watch: UK PM Rishi Sunak rushed out by his aides at COP27 meet Milton who worked in the Tory whips' office between 2016 and 2017, also added that 46-year-old Williamson loved to engage in salacious gossip which often turned sexual in nature. "There were a few - the salacious gossip, which I've talked about, people's sexual preferences, that sort of thing. He loved all that. He would come into the office and say, 'Guess who enjoys some form of sex or another'." (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

The United Kingdom's counterterrorism police in a recent statement have said that last week's firebombing attack on a migrant processing centre was motivated by "terrorist ideology".

On Saturday, the police said that evidence from the scene, including the devices used, suggests "an extreme right-wing motivation behind the attack," and that the attack was "motivated by a terrorist ideology", reports AFP.

On October 30, homemade bombs were thrown at an immigrant centre in the southeast port town of Dover. This facility handles migrants who have travelled by small boats over the English Channel from northern Europe. The attack on the Western Jet Foil Border Force centre left two of the staff with minor injuries.

The attack was carried out by a 66-year-old man who was later found dead nearby. Earlier, the police had refuted the terrorism angle, saying, "What appears clear is that this despicable offence was targeted and likely to be driven by some form of hate filled grievance, though this may not necessarily meet the threshold of terrorism."

However, on Saturday as per AFP, Tim Jacques, senior national coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing said that while mental health was likely a factor in the attacks, the "suspect's actions were primarily driven by an extremist ideology" and this met the "threshold for a terrorist incident".

The police added that there was nothing to suggest that the attacker was working alongside someone else and that there is not "believed to be any wider threat to the public."

Attack on Dover immigration centre had 'terror' motive: UK police

Bank of England (BoE) raised interest rates on Thursday (November 3), the most since 1989, to counteract the sky-high inflation. According to BoE, inflation is driving Britain into a recession that will endure until mid-2024.

The BoE announced after a meeting that it was raising borrowing costs by 0.75 percentage points to three per cent, the highest level since the global financial crisis of 2008. The decision to an interest rate hike is taken to curb UK inflation, which it predicts will soon reach a four-decade high of close to 11 per cent.

BoE governor Andrew Bailey told a press conference: "It is a tough road ahead. The sharp increase in energy prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine has made us poorer as a nation. The level of economic activity is likely to be flat and even fall for some time."

With rising food and energy prices, the most recent rate increase is a reflection of aggressive rate tightening by central banks around the world. The US Federal Reserve abruptly raised interest rates by 0.75 percentage points on Wednesday, and its chairman, Jerome Powell, hinted that rates will rise more than anticipated.

The BoE predicted that British inflation would reach a top of 10.9 percent this year, but because the rate is so high, analysts believe it may reach as high as five percent in the near future.

Millions of Britons are expected to experience a worsening cost-of-living problem as a result of the BoE rate increase, as increases by central banks cause retail lenders to raise interest rates on their own loans.

Bailey also agreed to it as he said that these are "big changes" and they have a real impact on people's lives. He said they are increasing bank rate at the time when so many people are already struggling with higher energy and food prices and other bills, because inflation is too high and it is the bank's job to "bring it down".

Meanwhile, Craig Erlam, an analyst at trading platform OANDA, said: "The central bank has had the unenviable job of fighting soaring inflation amid enormous economic and political uncertainty."
