<p>The 42-year-old military official was shot in the southern city of Krasnodar, said Russia’s top investigative body. A criminal case has been launched after the alleged murder, reported TASS.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Russian media reports, Rzhitsky was the&nbsp;deputy head of military mobilisation in the city and also commanded the “Krasnodar” submarine (named after the city) in the Black Sea. Rzhitsky was reportedly shot four times in the back and chest and died on the spot.</p>

<p>The commander of a diesel-electric submarine, a part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, was also allegedly responsible for launching Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukrainian targets, according to media reports from Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;Rzhitsky, was also said to have been involved in a submarine-launched missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia in July, last year, which killed 23 civilians, including a four-year-old girl.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Ukrainian involvement?</strong></h2>

<p>A report by Reuters said that Rzhitsky’s details, including his address were present on the Ukrainian website Myrotvorets (Peacemaker), which is said to be an unofficial database of perceived enemies of Kyiv. On Tuesday, the word “Liquidated,” in red, was superimposed on his photograph on the site.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Ukrainian interior ministry adviser, Anton Gerashchenko, took to Twitter and wrote about how the Russian police and the country’s media are blaming the “carefully planned” alleged murder on the “order from Ukraine”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “So far, Russian police cannot find a single surveillance camera that would show the crime being committed. The search continues.” However, the Ukrainian official did not covertly indicate if the allegations are justified or not.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Did Putin fire the top Russian general?</strong></h2>

<p>Top Russian general, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov was shown in a video released by the defence ministry, on Monday, in his first public appearance since the aborted Wagner mutiny last month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He was also described as the general staff of the Russian armed forces and commander of Moscow’s forces in Ukraine,&nbsp;positions he held prior to the Wagner mutiny.</p>

<p>The recent footage and first public appearances indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin has retained his two most powerful military men Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Gerasimov.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russian military bloggers, for weeks, have claimed that the top Russian general had been dismissed and replaced by Putin after Wagner’s June 24 mutiny. However, both the first recent public appearances suggest that the Russian president ignored Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s demand for their dismissal.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Russian military bloggers, as per the Moscow Times claim that Gerasimov has been replaced with Colonel General Mikhail Teplinskiy who took over as commander of the Airborne Forces in June, last year and in April became deputy commander of the grouping in Ukraine.</p>

<p>The pro-Kremlin military blogger Vladimir Romanov reportedly also indicated that Teplinsky is the one running operations on the Russian side.</p>

It’s unprecedented and absurd when time frame is not set neither for the invitation nor for Ukraine's membership. While at the same time vague wording about 'conditions'&nbsp;is added even for inviting Ukraine. It seems there is no readiness neither to invite Ukraine to NATO nor to make it a member of the Alliance This means that a window of opportunity is being left to bargain Ukraine's membership in NATO in negotiations with Russia. And for Russia, this means motivation to continue its terror. Uncertainty is weakness. And I will openly discuss this at the summit," he further added.</p>

I think it would be wrong if I go into the exact language of that and also exactly how that will be made public. But of course, this will complement and supplement the decisions made at the NATO summit," he added.</p>

<p>Zelensky then released a statement saying it would be "absurd" if NATO leaders gathering for a summit on Tuesday did not offer his country a timeframe for membership.</p>

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky slams NATO leaders over 'uncertainty' on country's membership

<p>A heart transplant was successfully carried out on a six-year-old girl in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv amidst the constant danger of Russian missiles, reported CNN. The procedure was reportedly carried out on Sunday (July 9) at Heart Institute of Ukraine's Ministry of Health. The operation lasted for three hours and the girl was given the heart of a four-year-old boy who was previously declared brain dead due to an aneurysm.</p>

<p>The institute has said that this is the first heart transplant in Ukraine which involves children so young.</p>

<p>“The operation was also unique in that both the donor and the recipient were very young children, and the transplant required more effort from the doctors,” it said, as quoted by CNN.</p>

<p>The team of doctors who performed the surgery was led by Dr Boris Todurov, who is the chief scientist of the Department of Surgical and Minimally Invasive Treatment.</p>

<p>In a Facebook post, Dr Todurov said that the procedure went "smoothly" and that the girl was intubated for two hours.</p>

<p>The images released by the institute showed the mother of the boy whose heart was donated standing by the bedside of the girl.</p>

<p>CNN reported that three more organs of the boy were donated to two other boys. The organs donated were two kidneys and a liver.</p>

<p>“Many thanks to the parents of the little angel, who made an extremely noble act in this extremely difficult time for the family! You are people with a big and kind heart!” Dmytrieva said as quoted by CNN.</p>

<p>“May the little angel rest in peace. And a speedy recovery to the patients who got a chance for a full life!”</p>

<p>Ukraine is currently at war with Russia which invaded the country in February last year. Many cities, including the capital Kyiv, have been bombarded by Russia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged Western allies to provide a "clear signal" regarding his country's prospects of joining NATO. In a video message posted on Telegram, Zelensky stressed that while Ukraine is currently facing a war, the nation needs a clear indication of its NATO membership aspirations.</p>

<p>"Ukraine deserves to be in the alliance. Not now, because now there's war, but we need a clear signal and this signal is needed right now," Zelensky said adding, "the majority of the alliance stands firmly with us."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"When we applied for membership of NATO, we spoke frankly: de facto, Ukraine is already in the Alliance. Our weapons are the weapons of the alliance. Our values are what the alliance believes in. ... Vilnius must confirm all this," Zelensky continued.&nbsp;</p>

"Today we are on Snake Island, which will never be conquered by the occupiers, like the whole of Ukraine, because we are the country of the brave," Zelensky said in a video clip, which was posted on social media on Saturday (July 8).<br />

"I want to thank from here, from this place of victory, each of our soldiers for these 500 days," said Zelensky, in the undated clip in which he was seen reaching the island by boat and placing flowers at a memorial.</p>
