<p>The talks were expected to focus on a dispute over post-Brexit trade rules governing the region, which has blocked a normalisation of relations between Britain and the European Union and plunged local politics into crisis.</p>

<p>After a prolonged Status Quo, Britain and the European Union resumed talks in October.</p>

<p>The EU has said it is "very confident" a positive conclusion is within reach if Britain shows the political will.</p>

<p>Any agreement will have to overcome opposition from within Sunak's own Conservative Party and the Democratic Unionist Party, largest pro-British party in the Northern Ireland.</p>

<p>Sunak's office posted a picture of him posing after the talks with the leaders of the five main parties, including the DUP and Irish nationalists Sinn Fein.</p>

<p>The DUP in February withdrew from Northern Ireland's power-sharing government, a key part of a 1998 peace deal, in protest at the trade checks. Neither the power-sharing government or the Stormont Assembly can function without the DUP's support.</p>

<p>Sunak's meetings follow a roundtable with party leaders hosted by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland earlier in the day to discuss solutions to the return of power-sharing government in the region.</p>

Rishi Sunak visits Northern Ireland for first time as UK PM

<p>An official register of UK parliamentarians' interests has revealed that former UK prime minister Boris Johnson has already earned more than&nbsp;1 million pounds (USD 1.2 million) for giving paid speeches since leaving office.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Famous for his rhetorical flourishes, Johnson has in recent months delivered speeches to bankers in New York, insurers in the United States, a summit organised by broadcaster CNN in Portugal and another talk in India.</p>

<p>Payments he received ranged from £215,000 to £277,000 (USD 267,000 to $344,000), according to the official document published on UK parliament website.</p>

<p>Johnson resigned from his post in July this year following a series of scandals that tarnished his government and his premiership.</p>

<p>He attempted to make a spectacular political comeback after the rapid fall of his successor Liz Truss triggered another Conservative leadership contest, but Tory MPs backed his former finance minister Rishi Sunak instead.</p>

<p>Johnson, who remains popular with Tory members, has not ruled out another bid for the top job, saying he was "well placed to deliver a Conservative victory in 2024" as the main opposition Labour party rides high in the polls.</p>

<p>The event was also attended by the Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. During his visit, the South African president also addressed the UK parliament and spoke to the lawmakers about the close ties between the two countries in the context of the difficult legacy of colonialism and apartheid.</p>

These meetings will take place on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia. PM Modi will be in Bali from November 14 to 16. He will not only attend the mega summit but also address members of the Indian diaspora.</p>

<p>His meeting with UK PM will be the first in-person meet&nbsp;between the two leaders.</p>

<p>Sunak, Britain's first Indian-origin PM, had spoken to PM Modi after taking charge last month. Early finalisation of India-UK Free trade agreement (FTA) was discussed during this conversation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PM Modi's meet with French President Macron will provide an occasion to reaffirm the close partnership New Delhi and Paris have. &nbsp;France has recently&nbsp;issued its National Strategic Review 2022 in which it has emphasised deeper cooperation with New Delhi. The PM will also hold talks with the Suriname president &amp; with host-- Indonesia's President Joko widodo.</p>

<p>The 17th edition of the G20 summit takes place from November 15 to 16. The summit will see world leaders gathering to chalk out solution for the current global crisis. US President Joe Biden will also be in Bali which is also know as "Island of the Gods".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Biden's meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday will be closely watched for any breakthrough in ties as the world's number one &amp; number two economies head for what experts are calling a new cold war.</p>

<p>For India, this year's summit holds special significance since it will be handed the presidency of the mega grouping. Earlier this month, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the logo, theme and website of India’s G20 presidency with much fanfare. The logo, which has the colors of Indian national flag juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower.</p>

<p>But the worries over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, a world recovering from Covid pandemic are unlikely to go away very soon. But India sounds hopeful as PM at the time of the launch said, "India's G20 presidency is coming at a time of crisis and chaos in the world. World is going through after-effects of disruptive, once in a century pandemic..", adding, "Symbol of lotus is representation of hope in this times.."</p>

<p>India will host G20 sumit next year for the first time since 2008. Under Indian presidency, two hundred G20 meetings will take place across the country beginning December of this year. The first meeting will be the Sherpa meeting in Udaipur in the first week of December.</p>

<p>G20 doesn't have a secretariat but it's the president of the grouping who decides the agenda. India already has set up a G20 Secretariat under the Ministry of External Affairs. It has over 40 officials. The secretariat is headed by India's Sherpa Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla and G20 special operations lead Muktesh Pardeshi.</p>

However, months after making the announcement, the company is still operating from Moscow, as per a Guardian report, putting the spotlight on UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whose wife Akshata Murty receives annual dividends from the company.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, Infosys still has a staffed office on its roster in the Russian capital and is simultaneously paying subcontractors to carry out IT services for a global client.</p>

<p>“And though I have reached out to both Rishi and Penny – because I hoped that we could come together in the national interest – we have sadly not been able to work out a way of doing this.</p>

<p>“Therefore, I am afraid the best thing is that I do not allow my nomination to go forward and commit my support to whoever succeeds. I believe I have much to offer, but I am afraid that this is simply not the right time,” Johnson said in his official statement on Sunday.</p>

<p>With 100 votes needed to secure a victory, Sunak currently has around 165 supporters.</p>

<p>At present, Penny Mordaunt remains the only competition for Sunak in the leadership race, but the Leader of the House of Commons has only 30 leaders backing her in the competition.</p>

<h2><strong>Can Liz Truss truly be replaced this soon?</strong></h2>

<p>Yes. One way is that Truss herself resigns. Another is that senior ministers force her out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per Reuters, for this to happen, her cabinet ministers could start resigning, forcing her hand or a vote of confidence among the conservatives can also do the job. However as per the rules, given the very short time she has been in office, this cannot happen right now.</p>

<p>The vote cannot happen till September 2023.</p>

<p>A vote by the opposition can also do the job but this will be subject to a majority vote.</p>

<p>While reports indicate that Penny Mordaunt and Rishi Sunak are the candidates that have backing, Guardian puts the number at five. In addition to Sunak and Mordaunt, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and defense secretary Ben Wallace reportedly also stand a chance at being 10 Downing Street's next resident. Sky News adds to the list the newly appointed Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt.</p>

<p>The obvious choice. Sunak and Truss had a neck-to-neck competition for the Tory leadership just about a month back.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He has the added advantage of being proven right. During campaigning Sunak repeatedly warned that cutting too many taxes too soon would be dangerous for the economy. This was portrayed by Truss and her followers as "the over-cautious voice of a discredited Treasury orthodoxy". But now, Sunak's concerns have come true, which makes him appear like the safer choice for a leader.</p>

<p>This is a name that not many would expect. While in office just a month or so back, Johnson faced a flurry of scandals, but he still has his share of supporters and a "resurrection" just might happen. As per a Guardian analysis, He had a core of supporters who felt Johnson's departure over the scandals was unfair and their numbers are sure to have grown "as Tory MPs and members grasp for anything that could rescue the party from electoral oblivion".</p>

<p>The former Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities recently at a Conservative conference even voiced "suggestions" for Truss.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Ben Wallace</h2>

<p>The defence secretary, much like Mordaunt is "getting on quietly with the day job as the chaos rages around him, with the same arguable increase in reputation, even by default," writes Peter Walker for Guardian.</p>

<p>Wallace was seen as a successor to Johnson and is a favourite among Tory members.</p>

<h2>Jeremy Hunt</h2>

<p>As Sky News puts it upon being called in to replace Kwasi Kwarteng, Hunt is currently widely seen as the most powerful figure in the government.</p>

<p>However, Hunt himself doesn't think Truss being replaced now is a good idea.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The worst thing for that would be more political instability at the top - another protracted leadership campaign," he told BBC during an interview on Sunday.<br />
