<p>According to a recent report, social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has retracted from its previous move of slowing down access to a few of the top news outlets. However, the delays in accessing links to other&nbsp;social media competing platforms like Bluesky, Facebook, and Instagram continue to remain. This alleged deliberate delay, which lasted approximately five seconds upon clicking a link on X, was observed during tests conducted by The Washington Post and Reuters. However, as of late Tuesday, X seemed to have eliminated this delay. Despite confirmation of the removal, there was no comment&nbsp;by X.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Previous conflicts</strong></h2>

<p>Billionaire Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter in October, has previously engaged in public disputes with news organisations and journalists who have critiqued his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. Moreover, X has previously prevented users from sharing links to rival social media platforms.</p>

<p>At the time he cited that there will be no free advertising for these competing platforms and that it is a violation of X policies. As per reports, Musk said that cross-posting is accepted but what is not acceptable is X platform being used in order to promote one's content.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Delay in accessing links&nbsp;</strong></h2>

Musk retracts slowed access to news outlets, but delay not removed for social media rivals

<p>Threads, Meta's social media platform launched with a bang on July 5 in over 100 countries, is now facing a serious crisis&nbsp;with&nbsp;its daily usage seeing a significant decline as against&nbsp;its promising introduction.</p>

<p>According to data from Similarweb, which provides digital intelligence insights, engagement with the app has plummeted by a staggering 79 per cent.</p>

<p>The platform saw a peak of 2.3 million active users in early July, but by August 7th, this number had dwindled to just 576,000.</p>

<h2><strong>Corporate retreat: Major brands scale back posts</strong></h2>

<p>Not only have individual users been abandoning Threads, but several prominent US&nbsp;companies, including fast-food giant Wendy's, clothing retailer Anthropologie, and makeup brand Rare Beauty, have also decreased their posting activity on the platform.</p>

<p>Adweek has reported this corporate retreat, reflecting the diminishing allure of Threads, as reported by the Guardian.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Impressive start followed by fading appeal</strong></h2>

<p>Threads generated substantial excitement upon its launch on July 5th, amassing a remarkable 5 million user registrations within its initial hours.</p>

<p>Impressively, within less than a week, over 100 million people had signed up, setting a new record for rapid app downloads.</p>

<p>However, this initial surge in interest has since subsided. On its busiest day, Threads had less than half the user count of Twitter, the incumbent social media giant, which boasts an average of over 100 million daily active users.</p>

<p>Threads was strategically positioned to take advantage of the tumultuous state of Twitter following its acquisition by Elon Musk. Musk's takeover of Twitter in October 2022 resulted in significant layoffs within the company and the implementation of controversial policy changes.</p>

The proposed cage fight between social media moguls Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk is making headlines again, and viewers worldwide might be in for a treat.

Musk vs Mark: Elon Musk tweets update on cage match with Meta owner, Mark Zuckerberg

<p><meta name="uuid" content="uuidV6SaQ1UcpfYv" /><meta charset="utf-8" />Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has clapped back at Elon Musk and X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk announced in the early hours of Sunday that the "Musk vs Zuck" fight will be live-streamed on the rebranded platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” Zuckerberg replied to Musk on Threads.</p>

<p>Zuckerberg may have been referring to the dodgy quality of live streams on X, which even Musk has mentioned needs upgrading. Last week, Musk did a 53-second impromptu live to see if there had been improvements in the live streaming since he first raised the issue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Regarding the fight, the Meta boss said he was prepared to enter the ring any day, but Musk had not agreed to the dates up until now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I’m read today,” Zuckerberg said on Threads. “I suggested Aug 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn’t confirmed. Not holding my breath.”</p>

<p>He continued, “I love this sport and will continue competing with people who train no matter what happens here.”</p>

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has clapped back at Elon Musk and X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk announced in the early hours of Sunday that the "Musk vs Zuck" fight will be live-streamed on the rebranded platform.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has clapped back at Elon Musk and X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk announced in the early hours of Sunday that the "Musk vs Zuck" fight will be live-streamed on the rebranded platform. “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” Zuckerberg replied to Musk on Threads. Zuckerberg may have been referring to the dodgy quality of live streams on X, which even Musk has mentioned needs upgrading. Last week, Musk did a 53-second impromptu live to see if there had been improvements in the live streaming since he first raised the issue. Regarding the fight, the Meta boss said he was prepared to enter the ring any day, but Musk had not agreed to the dates up until now. “I’m read today,” Zuckerberg said on Threads. “I suggested Aug 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn’t confirmed. Not holding my breath.” He continued, “I love this sport and will continue competing with people who train no matter what happens here.” Post by @zuck View on Threads × Also read | It's on: Elon Musk shares details of fight with Zuckerberg, to be live streamed on X Notably, Musk dispelled speculations about the fight being cancelled when he said it will be live-streamed and all proceeds will go to the charity. “Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X. X owner Elon Musk and Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino will both oversee the trust and safety team at the company formerly known as Twitter, the social media concern said on Monday. X's product and engineering team will report to Musk, while Yaccarino will oversee all other divisions, including human resources, legal, finance, sales and operations, X said. The trust and safety team, which is responsible for content moderation, has been the focus of some criticism of the platform after Musk acquired the company last October. Researchers have accused X of relaxing content guard rails, leading to a spike in harmful posts. The company has said the majority of content views are of "healthy" posts. In an email to X employees on Monday, which was shared with Reuters, Yaccarino said the company is searching for a new leader for brand safety and suitability. The previous head of brand safety, A.J. Brown, who worked on efforts to prevent advertisements from appearing next to unsuitable content, left the company last month. Yaccarino said in the email that three X leaders will oversee different responsibilities within trust and safety, including law enforcement operations and threat disruptions. The changes to trust and safety come after Ella Irwin resigned as head of the team in June.

X reorganises trust and safety team under Musk, CEO Yaccarino

Recently, Elon Musk's long-planned transformation of Twitter into X was successful. The business has been eliminating anything that makes people think of the previous Bird app over the past few days. However, the tech giant's App Store remained a problem for X because it normally disallows single-letter titles.

<p>Over a week after Elon Musk-owned Twitter rebranded itself to X, the social media platform has finally been listed on the IOS App Store with its rechristened name. Apple, which prohibited single-character app names within the App Store, seemingly tweaked the rule to accommodate Twitter's new avatar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After Musk announced the rebranding, a number of users pointed out that while the Android apps quickly reflected the 'X' name, iOS still showed the old 'Twitter' name. Some speculated at the time that Twitter and Apple may spar over the rule. However, it appears that both parties have found a solution rather amicably.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, X also changed its App Store tagline from “Let’s talk.” to “Blaze Your Glory!!”. Musk himself posted a tweet with the said tagline without any context.</p>

Legal battle looms as X takes on hate speech tracker group over 'false claims'

Looks like the cage fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk might not actually happen now. This was stated by the meta founder in a meeting with his employees. He said that he's not sure if the cage fight is in fact going to come together.

Will the tech giants not fight?

<p>In an update that may leave some billionaire fans upset, it turns out the ‘fight of the century’ may not be happening after all. This comes after multiple social media exchanges between billionaire social media moguls Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg who had agreed to a “cage match” just over a month ago. However, the Facebook CEO during a recent town hall told employees that he was not sure if the fight was going to happen, reported Reuters.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What is this ‘cage match’?</strong></h2>

<p>In a series of social media posts and a chain of events that occurred in late June, the Facebook parent company Meta CEO and X owner, formerly known as Twitter, ‘agreed’ to a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/elon-musks-big-update-ahead-of-his-cage-fight-with-mark-zuckerberg-stst-610514">“cage match”</a> against each other.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options. At least it will be ‘sane’. Was worried there for a moment,” Musk tweeted with a crying-laughing emoji.</p>

<p>A Twitter user replied to Musk saying he should be careful of Zuckerberg since the Facebook boss had been practising jiu-jitsu, a Brazilian martial art form.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” replied a cavalier Musk.</p>

<p>Though one would be forgiven to think it was all banter from Musk, Zuckerberg seemed game for the match. He posted a screenshot of Musk’s tweet on his Instagram story, saying, “send me location”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Afterwards, another netizen posted Zuckerberg’s Instagram story screenshot to which Musk replied, “If this is for real, I will do it.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>On June 30, Musk also took to his microblogging platform and in a cryptic post, days after the online banter said, “Some chance fight happens in Colosseum.”</p>

<h2><strong>So what happened?</strong></h2>

<p>During a town hall, on Thursday (July 28), the audio of which was heard by Reuters, Zuckerberg in response to the proposed “cage match” against Musk, Zuckerberg said he was “not sure if it’s going to come together.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes as Meta’s CEO recently acknowledged that their new social media platform ‘Threads’ has witnessed a drastic fall in the number of its users within a month of its launch.</p>

<p>But make no mistake, the X rival rocketed to 100 million users within five days of its launch in early July; however, it failed to retain even half of them before the end of the month.</p>

A Twitter user replied to Musk saying he should be careful of Zuckerberg since the Facebook boss had been practising jiu-jitsu, a Brazilian martial art form. ALSO READ | Fight of the century? Musk and Zuckerberg 'agree' to fight each other in cage match “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” replied a cavalier Musk. Though one would be forgiven to think it was all banter from Musk, Zuckerberg seemed game for the match. He posted a screenshot of Musk’s tweet on his Instagram story, saying, “send me location”. Afterwards, another netizen posted Zuckerberg’s Instagram story screenshot to which Musk replied, “If this is for real, I will do it.” On June 30, Musk also took to his microblogging platform and in a cryptic post, days after the online banter said, “Some chance fight happens in Colosseum.” So what happened? During a town hall, on Thursday (July 28), the audio of which was heard by Reuters, Zuckerberg in response to the proposed “cage match” against Musk, Zuckerberg said he was “not sure if it’s going to come together.” ALSO READ | Meta boss Zuckerberg admits Threads failed to retain even half of initial users This comes as Meta’s CEO recently acknowledged that their new social media platform ‘Threads’ has witnessed a drastic fall in the number of its users within a month of its launch. WATCH: Elon Musk unveils new 'X' logo at San Francisco headquarters, sparks social media frenzy

<p>Recently, I had a conversation with someone grappling with major depressive disorder (MDD).</p>

<p>This person had consciously chosen to steer clear of both Instagram, which she branded as a cult of aesthetics, and X, which she completely dismissed as a mere megaphone for the uninformed.</p>

<p>Her perspective struck a chord with me, leaving me intrigued.</p>

<p>As I reminisce over my college days, one particular memory stands out.</p>

<p>A dear friend of mine, who now graces the screen as a morning-time anchor at a top TV channel, decided to tackle the captivating yet perilous subject of social media's harmful effects and our ever-present attachment to mobile phones.</p>

<p>Her enthusiasm was contagious as she prepared to deliver her presentation.</p>

<p>I vividly remember the moment she engaged the class with a straightforward question that cut through the air like a sharp blade: "Raise your hand if you think you are NOT addicted to social media."</p>

<p>Only one hand emerged from the crowd – mine.</p>

<p>A sense of pride and confidence washed over me, and a beaming smile adorned my face. In that moment, I firmly believed I had built an impregnable fortress of immunity against the allure of Instagram and X.</p>

<p>Little did I know that the siren calls of these virtual realms can seep through the tiniest of cracks.</p>

<p>As time went on, I, too, found myself wandering down the enticing rabbit hole of social media. The constant buzz of notifications and the allure of endless scrolling began to grip me.</p>

<p>Now, as I reflect on that moment in the classroom, I realise the profound irony of my self-assured response.</p>

<p>As I continue my path in the media world, I carry with me this wisdom - The ever-evolving digital landscape demands vigilance and a mindful approach.</p>

<p>But as I peel off the layers of this digital world, the question echoes, "What is going down in this virtual hell?"</p>

<p>The answer is complex and multifaceted, urging us to introspect and navigate this interconnected terrain with a discerning eye and a grounded sense of self.</p>

<h2><strong>Instagram as a cult of aesthetics</strong></h2>

<p>As I log into Instagram, I can't help but notice how this social media app is nothing but a quest for flawlessness, cultivating an obsession with aesthetics.</p>

<p>People are competing to present a picture-perfect version of their lives. The pictures are first carefully selected and then enhanced with artistic filters.</p>

<p>Soon enough and unconsciously, the same Instagram users carry around with them a weight of societal beauty standards.</p>

<p>And then comes the creeping monster which bites the most gullible ones first. It fuels their struggles with self-esteem and body image.</p>

<p>The heavy burden of comparison with influencers and celebrities only ends up in feelings of inadequacy and envy.</p>

<p>Genuine connections fade away with a relentless pursuit of validation through likes and comments. It leaves us all with just one thing in the end - the empty craving for online popularity.</p>

<h2><strong>X, a big mic to morons</strong></h2>

<p>Twitter, now rebranded as X, has become a platform that amplifies the voices of individuals, often regardless of the substance of their messages.</p>

<p>It amplifies the uninhibited and often mindless expression.</p>

<p>The platform's character limit encourages users to condense complex thoughts into short sentences. It sacrifices nuance and promotes superficial thinking.</p>

<p>As a result, X has fostered an environment where divisive opinions and misinformation spread like wildfire. It hijacks meaningful discourse and stifles constructive conversations.</p>

<p>The more I research on this, the more I confirm, said my friend I mentioned earlier, as we wrap up our conversation.</p>

<p>As social media continues to wield a powerful influence over society, it is imperative for us to reflect on the direction these platforms are taking us.</p>

<p>Instagram's cult of perfection and X's glorification of mindless expression contribute to the erosion of critical thinking.</p>

<p>Though, not everything is lost.</p>

<p>Undoubtedly, at times, the platform serves as a tool to air the right message and give voice to the voiceless.</p>

<p>For instance, my journalist friend a couple of days back used X to expose her neighbours who thrashed her parents over a parking dispute in the Indian capital Delhi.</p>

<p>However, more often than not, social media leads to unintended consequences. It lacks empathy and genuine human connection.</p>

<h2><strong>So where are we heading?</strong></h2>

<p>As individuals, we need to redefine our relationship with social media.</p>

<p>Embracing imperfection and authenticity on Instagram can counteract the relentless pursuit of an unattainable ideal.</p>

<p>Moreover, engaging in thoughtful discussions and supporting meaningful content on X can help foster an environment that promotes learning and empathy rather than senseless banter.</p>

<p>Ultimately, the power of these social media platforms lies within us, the users.</p>

<p>It is up to us to challenge the cult of aesthetics on Instagram and hold those promoting harmful rhetoric on X accountable.</p>

How social media is leading us down toxic rabbit holes of endless scrolling

<p>An ex-employee at Twitter (Now X) has shed light on how US billionaire Elon Musk has handled the operations at the popular microblogging site since taking over in October last year.</p>

<p>In the shocking revelations, Esther Crawford, a product manager at Twitter who was fired following Musk’s takeover, claimed the ‘X’ owner to be driven by instinct, not data. She also claimed that Musk was always surrounded by sycophants and ‘yes men’, who always seemed to agree to whatever Musk suggested.</p>

<p>She also mentioned that more than anything else, Musk would rely on the feedback coming from Twitter polls and some random sources. The X owner would never pay heed to genuine feedback coming from employees and backed by strong data, she claimed.</p>

Ex-Twitter employee claims Musk driven by instinct not data, guided by sycophants

<p>Elon Musk has given Twitter a major makeover, replacing the iconic blue bird logo with the letter “X”.</p>

<p>Hours before the announcement, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino said that ‘X’ is “the future state of unlimited interactivity” and that it “will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine".</p>

<p>“For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfil our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.”</p>

<p>“There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. Elon Musk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.”</p>

<p>The decision to rebrand the social media platform is just one of the many steps in Musk’s grandiose plan to make Twitter, or rather “X”, an all-in-one application, which he calls "the everything app"— that can be used for digital transactions, booking a cab and other financial services, just like China’s WeChat.</p>

<p>The makeover was expected as Musk has betting big on the social media platform after he bought it for a record $44 billion last year.</p>

<p>However, there is one interesting aspect of the Twitter makeover. Elon Musk’s obsession with the letter ‘X’. Turns out there is a historical context to it.</p>

<p>Before buying Twitter in 2022, Musk had said, “Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app”.</p>

<p>In April this year, a filing in a federal court case in California revealed Twitter had been renamed to X Corp. In the same month, Musk tweeted only the letter ‘X’ to his millions of followers.</p>

<h2><strong>Musk’s first venture</strong></h2>

<p>In 1999, Musk came out with his first venture known as X.com—an online banking and financial services platform. A year later, he was forced to step down as the CEO of the firm.</p>

<p>“Everyone tried to talk him out of naming the company that back then because of the sexual innuendos, but he really liked it and stuck with it,” said Ashlee Vance, the author of Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, about the X.com domain, according to NPR.</p>

<p>Three years later, Musk earned $165 million when the site, which was merged with PayPal by then, was bought by eBay.</p>

<p>Author Walter Isaacson also shared his thoughts on the whole matter by quoting excerpts from his upcoming biography on Musk.</p>

<p>&nbsp;“His concept for X.com was grand. It would be a one-stop everything-store for all financial needs: banking, digital purchases, checking, credit cards, investments, and loans. Transactions would be handled instantly, with no waiting for payments to clear. His insight was that money is simply an entry into a database, and he wanted to devise a way that all transactions were securely recorded in real-time.”</p>

<p>Musk would later buy the domain X.com back from PayPal in 2017. That site now directs people to Twitter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Thanks PayPal for allowing me to buy back X.com! No plans right now, but it has great sentimental value to me,” Musk wrote on Twitter in 2017,&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, that was the first time Musk used the letter X as the domain name, but it was not his last.</p>

<h2><strong>‘X’ doesn’t stop there</strong></h2>

<p>Musk also affixed the letter “X” to his space company’s brand name.</p>

Elon Musk has given Twitter a major makeover, replacing the iconic blue bird logo with the letter “X”. Hours before the announcement, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino said that ‘X’ is “the future state of unlimited interactivity” and that it “will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine". “For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfil our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.” “There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. Elon Musk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.” The decision to rebrand the social media platform is just one of the many steps in Musk’s grandiose plan to make Twitter, or rather “X”, an all-in-one application, which he calls "the everything app"— that can be used for digital transactions, booking a cab and other financial services, just like China’s WeChat. The makeover was expected as Musk has betting big on the social media platform after he bought it for a record $44 billion last year. However, there is one interesting aspect of the Twitter makeover. Elon Musk’s obsession with the letter ‘X’. Turns out there is a historical context to it. Before buying Twitter in 2022, Musk had said, “Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app”. In April this year, a filing in a federal court case in California revealed Twitter had been renamed to X Corp. In the same month, Musk tweeted only the letter ‘X’ to his millions of followers. Musk’s first venture In 1999, Musk came out with his first venture known as X.com—an online banking and financial services platform. A year later, he was forced to step down as the CEO of the firm. “Everyone tried to talk him out of naming the company that back then because of the sexual innuendos, but he really liked it and stuck with it,” said Ashlee Vance, the author of Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, about the X.com domain, according to NPR. Three years later, Musk earned $165 million when the site, which was merged with PayPal by then, was bought by eBay. Author Walter Isaacson also shared his thoughts on the whole matter by quoting excerpts from his upcoming biography on Musk. “His concept for X.com was grand. It would be a one-stop everything-store for all financial needs: banking, digital purchases, checking, credit cards, investments, and loans. Transactions would be handled instantly, with no waiting for payments to clear. His insight was that money is simply an entry into a database, and he wanted to devise a way that all transactions were securely recorded in real-time.” Musk would later buy the domain X.com back from PayPal in 2017. That site now directs people to Twitter. “Thanks PayPal for allowing me to buy back X.com! No plans right now, but it has great sentimental value to me,” Musk wrote on Twitter in 2017, Notably, that was the first time Musk used the letter X as the domain name, but it was not his last. ‘X’ doesn’t stop there Musk also affixed the letter “X” to his space company’s brand name. SpaceX, formally known as Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, was founded by Musk in 2002. The company recently launched its $3 billion test flight which was deemed a great success even after it burst into a spectacular ball of flames. And even in Musk’s “bestselling” Tesla car, the letter X can be witnessed. Musk's decision to rebrand Twitter as X could have legal complications. Here's how

In pics | Twitter officially renamed to 'X': A brief history from 2006 to the present

<p>After Meta, we have a new giant player entering the microblogging space—TikTok. To rival X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s newly launched Threads, TikTok has declared it will offer text-only posts on its platform.</p>

<p>TikTok has embedded the new feature in its original app only, against Meta’s separate app. The Chinese company said in a statement that the text-only post option will expand the “boundaries of content creation” on the platform and tap into the “creativity seen in captions and comments”.</p>

<h2><strong>What is TikTok’s text-only post feature?</strong></h2>

<p>The service is similar to what Instagram already offers in 'Stories' feature. The users can generate posts using text on solid colour backgrounds, use music or sound, use stickers and location. Also, the ready-to-post content can be reposted as a video as well.</p>

<p><strong>Watch:&nbsp;TikTok's attempts to reassure government</strong></p>

<a class="close-mark close-div" href="#" id="jqclosemark">×</a></div>

<p>Due to TikTok’s massive popularity in the US (150 million users), the new feature is expected to disrupt the microblogging space. Its launch comes after Meta launched its Threads app and US billionaire Elon Musk rebranded his Twitter brand to X, thus further creating ripples on the internet.</p>

<h2><strong>Why TikTok is wading into the microblogging space</strong></h2>

<p>It started after Musk took over Twitter before rebranding it as X, and started implementing changes that ended up confusing and even irritating its users. The users have specifically expressed their frustration with the paid-only features and ‘view limits’ applied to unverified profiles.</p>

<p>Other major threats looming over X are diminishing valuation, major outages and plummeting revenues. However, none of them has led to a drop in X’s popularity among its users.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/over-700000-tiktok-turkish-accounts-were-hacked-ahead-of-presidential-elections-report-617276"><strong>Also read:&nbsp;Turkey: 700,000 TikTok accounts were hacked ahead of presidential elections, says report</strong></a></p>

<p>Subsequently, a couple of competitors garnered interest, such as Mastodon and the more recent Bluesky.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Meta’s Threads: A flop show?</strong></h2>

<p>Meta's Threads, which was launched earlier this month, was perceived as the first significant contender to pose a real threat to Twitter. Threads boasts integration with Instagram and achieved unprecedented growth, attracting over 100 million users within a mere five days.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, its initial success was short-lived, witnessing a substantial 70 per cent decline in daily active users since reaching its peak on July 7. This setback has dampened its explosive launch, potentially paving the way for new competitors like TikTok to step in, introducing text features and presenting a formidable challenge to X (Twitter).</p>

After Meta, we have a new giant player entering the microblogging space—TikTok. To rival X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s newly launched Threads, TikTok has declared it will offer text-only posts on its platform. TikTok has embedded the new feature in its original app only, against Meta’s separate app. The Chinese company said in a statement that the text-only post option will expand the “boundaries of content creation” on the platform and tap into the “creativity seen in captions and comments”. What is TikTok’s text-only post feature? The service is similar to what Instagram already offers in 'Stories' feature. The users can generate posts using text on solid colour backgrounds, use music or sound, use stickers and location. Also, the ready-to-post content can be reposted as a video as well. Watch: TikTok's attempts to reassure government × Due to TikTok’s massive popularity in the US (150 million users), the new feature is expected to disrupt the microblogging space. Its launch comes after Meta launched its Threads app and US billionaire Elon Musk rebranded his Twitter brand to X, thus further creating ripples on the internet. Why TikTok is wading into the microblogging space It started after Musk took over Twitter before rebranding it as X, and started implementing changes that ended up confusing and even irritating its users. The users have specifically expressed their frustration with the paid-only features and ‘view limits’ applied to unverified profiles. Other major threats looming over X are diminishing valuation, major outages and plummeting revenues. However, none of them has led to a drop in X’s popularity among its users. Meta’s Threads: A flop show? Meta's Threads, which was launched earlier this month, was perceived as the first significant contender to pose a real threat to Twitter. Threads boasts integration with Instagram and achieved unprecedented growth, attracting over 100 million users within a mere five days. However, its initial success was short-lived, witnessing a substantial 70 per cent decline in daily active users since reaching its peak on July 7. This setback has dampened its explosive launch, potentially paving the way for new competitors like TikTok to step in, introducing text features and presenting a formidable challenge to X (Twitter).
