I think the trailer for the first Suicide Squad really worked against us because it became so successful, [but] it wasn't really what the movie was like. And then I think they almost tried to reshape the movie to be more like the trailer, so there was complete division,” he was quoted sa saying by an entertainment portal.&nbsp;</p>

I think David was really setting out to do something much darker, much more emotional, and nihilistic in a way, at least in his portrayal of the Joker (who was played by Jared Leto in Ayers' film), his idea of the Joker, and I think the studio wanted something that was much more entertaining. I think the trailer for the first Suicide Squad really worked against us because it became so successful, [but] it wasn't really what the movie was like. And then I think they almost tried to reshape the movie to be more like the trailer, so there was complete division,” he was quoted sa saying by an entertainment portal. While ‘Suicide Squad’ was panned by critics globally, James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ has received rave reviews thus far and has a high rating of 97 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. “When I saw the film completed I felt, yeah, this was the film that we set out to do," he says. "In this film, they trusted who James is, everyone has confidence in his vision. It was a joy to shoot the film and what you see is very much the script, but then I was surprised [because] it just seemed there were more layers to it than I had expected. I didn't see [in the script] the emotional depths that I felt were very unpretentiously woven into the film. Obviously, I'm hugely biased here, but I felt that that made the film transcend the genre, and the big spectacle of it, and made something that was a real work of art as well,” the actor concluded. ‘The Suicide Squad’ features the original squad members Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Jai Courtney, and new entrants Idris Elba and John Cena, among many others. Venice Film Festival: The complete Venice VR Expanded section  is out!

<p>Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s directorial venture ‘Ghost Stories’ has landed in troubled waters after a complaint against the four-piece anthology—which released last year on video-streaming giant Netflix—was filed.</p>

According to reports, this complaint happens to be the first to come under the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 that was framed in February this year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.</p>

As per the new rules, streaming platforms are mandated to have a redressal mechanism to address viewers’ grievances and based on that, a complaint has been filed and received by Netflix India against an allegedly objectionable scene in Anurag Kashyap’s short film, ‘Story 2’, reports claim.</p>

<p><br />
The complaint states that in the scene where actor Sobhita Dhulipala can be seen devouring the fetus from her miscarriage is not required for the narrative and if the makers wish to retain it, then there should be a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriage.</p>

She is tall, a gracious dancer, and a self-proclaimed ‘threat’ to all the Bollywood actresses she daydreams of dethroning as and when her lady luck shines. But, her Mumbai contact leaves no stone unturned to let the feisty belle know filmy dreams don’t come cheap: five lakh rupees for a photoshoot with Dabbo Ratnani and eight to ten lakh rupees for making her ‘viral dance video’ with T-Series.</p>

At 25, Mimi is restless for her big break and hard-pressed for money to realise it. “<em>Beej unka, khet tumhara</em> (their seed, your field),” Bhanu assures Mimi and thus begins her journey of surrogacy with an American couple. A few naive choices, a ghastly revelation and some hilarious satirical settings later, the titular character ends up with a protruding belly and some broken ties, and dreams.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Director Laxman Utekar’s take on surrogacy is poignancy personified, laced with humour and socially relevant issues serving as undercurrents. What sticks out in this Hindi adaptation of the Marathi film ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ is that Utekar’s Mimi—despite a conventional setting with Rajasthan as its backdrop—never reaches out for a saviour to rescue nor is she portrayed as a damsel-in-distress even in the film’s darkest sequences. The character is chalked out as a fearless, headstrong feminist: a trope that the Indian audience needs to some getting used to, but is a welcome change nonetheless.&nbsp;</p>

<p><br />
‘Mimi’ dabbles between surrogacy and its repercussions, and the taboo around single motherhood in the country. It, also, briefly touches upon adoption and fair-skin obsession that is rampant in India even to this day. The hindrance lies not in the fact that Utekar has brought to light these glaring issues on a global platform like Netflix—frankly, it’s the need of the hour!—but the hindrance lies in the fact that he has crammed in too many subtexts all at once. The intent is noble, but the route taken to reach that road is bumpy and superficial.&nbsp;</p>

A few naive choices, a ghastly revelation and some hilarious satirical settings later, the titular character ends up with a protruding belly and some broken ties, and dreams. ‘Mimi’—from outward observations—is an ode to all those faceless mothers who are often abandoned by their firaang bailouts in heartland India. Director Laxman Utekar’s take on surrogacy is poignancy personified, laced with humour and socially relevant issues serving as undercurrents. What sticks out in this Hindi adaptation of the Marathi film ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ is that Utekar’s Mimi—despite a conventional setting with Rajasthan as its backdrop—never reaches out for a saviour to rescue nor is she portrayed as a damsel-in-distress even in the film’s darkest sequences. The character is chalked out as a fearless, headstrong feminist: a trope that the Indian audience needs to some getting used to, but is a welcome change nonetheless. ‘Mimi’ dabbles between surrogacy and its repercussions, and the taboo around single motherhood in the country. It, also, briefly touches upon adoption and fair-skin obsession that is rampant in India even to this day.
