<p>The host added that the couple&nbsp;toured across South Korea rather than staying at the villa. According to Lee, they only came back five times in 25 days, each time only staying for five minutes.</p>

<p>The gas supplier called &nbsp;Lee after the couple&nbsp;left and informed him of a considerable rise in usage. It was a leak, he assumed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The villa's windows were open and the gas turned on when Lee went to&nbsp;inspect&nbsp;the villa. He was given three bills: a $116 water and power bill, a $730&nbsp;gas charge, and a $728&nbsp;"miscellaneous expenses" bill.</p>

<p>During their stay, he claimed the couple consumed more than 120,000 litres of water.</p>

<p>Following the release of a report by The Bear Cave that looked into unfavourable experiences that clients had when booking stays through the site, shares of Airbnb fell as much as six&nbsp;per cent.</p>

<p>The report&nbsp;cited a number of alarming occurrences, such as unexpected cleaning requests, last-minute cancellations, and visitors discovering hidden cameras in their rooms.</p>

<p>People frequently consuming fried food items such as French fries were 12 per cent more likely to develop anxiety-related issues than the ones who do not consume such food items. As for depression, the researchers found 7 per cent higher risk of depression than in people who did not eat fried foods.</p>

<p>The results "open an avenue in the significance of reducing fried food consumption for mental health," according to the research.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Experts cited in the media say that since the results of the research are preliminary, it is yet to be made clear whether fried foods drive mental health issues or people with mental health issues turn to fried food items. That is, the Catch-22 situation can be understood as: Are you driven to fried food items because you are anxious or depressed, or do the fried food items drive anxiety or depression in the first place?</p>

<p>This is because people with underlying symptoms of anxiety and depression often turn to comfort foods.</p>

<p>The study evaluated 140,728 people over a period of more than 11.3 years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After excluding participants diagnosed with depression within the first two years, a total of 8,294 cases of anxiety and 12,735 cases of depression were found in those that consumed fried food.</p>

<p>The study had also found that the participants consuming more than one serving of fried food regularly were more likely to be youngsters, specifically the young men.</p>

A video doing the rounds on social media can be proof to it.&nbsp;On Sunday (April 23), the&nbsp;video appeared on Weibo showing a woman&nbsp;aggressively bashing a hospital robot with a club inside the lobby of the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University in Jiangsu Province's Xuzhou, as reported&nbsp;by&nbsp;Jiangxi Morning News.</p>

<p>According to the agency, the hospital's initial evaluation said&nbsp;the woman was suffering from a mental illness.</p>

<p>A hospital employee cited by&nbsp;Boiling Point Video said&nbsp;that&nbsp;the reasons for her behaviour are unknown, and the hospital's security department and information office were in contact with the individual involved. It also reported that police have joined the inquiry.</p>

<h2><strong>Why China has edge on AI?</strong></h2>

<p>Dictatorships and authoritarian regimes lag behind more democratic and inclusive nations in nurturing cutting-edge, creative technology such as robotics and clean energy.&nbsp;Because of competing interests, artificial intelligence may be an exception, at least in China, as per The Harvard Gazette.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At a recent dean's conference on social science insights into the emergent global power, Harvard Economics Professor David Yang discussed the outsized success of China's AI sector. He highlighted a recent US&nbsp;government list of companies generating the highest accurate facial recognition technology as evidence. The top five were all Chinese firms.</p>

<p>“Autocratic governments would like to be able to predict the whereabouts, thoughts, and behaviors of citizens,” Yang said. “And AI is fundamentally a technology for prediction.” This creates an alignment of purpose between AI technology and autocratic rulers, he argued.</p>

<p>Because AI relies significantly on data, and autocratic governments are known to gather vast amounts of it, this benefits companies with Chinese government contracts, who may then use official data to enhance commercial ventures, he noted.</p>

<p>While the world of crypto currencies continues to puzzle many, the kind of impact it has had on the financial systems across the world is noteworthy. But mysteries seem to be a running theme and given its origins, it is spot on. Over a decade ago, the world witnessed a cryptic milestone when Satoshi Nakamoto developed Bitcoin, the world’s first cryptocurrency. But who is this mastermind? No one knows for sure.</p>

<h3>What do we know about Satoshi Nakamoto?</h3>

<p>Nakamoto is said to be a pseudonym for the person or people who helped create Bitcoin&nbsp;but the real identity of who he, she or they might be,&nbsp;continues to remain one of the biggest mysteries of the 21st century. The mysterious individual or group was the author of a 2008 white paper which outlined the theory and operating structure of the Bitcoin payment system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nakamoto’s identity continues to remain shrouded in mystery due to the lack of personal or background details about the person who would only communicate via email. One of the biggest indications that Nakamoto created Bitcoin was the famous white paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The elusive mastermind behind the now largest cryptocurrency in the world was said to be working on the first version of the software back in 2007. Around two years later, Nakamoto created the first-ever online message board post which was dedicated to cryptocurrency, on the P2P Foundation forum.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I’ve developed a new open source P2P e-cash system called Bitcoin. It’s completely decentralised, with no central server or trusted parties, because everything is based on crypto proof instead of trust. Give it a try, or take a look at the screenshots and design paper,” said Nakamoto, on the forum, as per Forbes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, in 2010, his involvement with Bitcoin ended but the cryptocurrency did not. As of 2021, at least one million Bitcoin miners were verifying the data that make up the Bitcoin blockchain and the cryptocurrency continues to remain one of the world’s largest by market cap.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What did Nakamoto do?</h3>

<p>It is worth noting that while the idea of digital currency was not new at the time, as reports suggest, there had been few attempts to create it. However, Nakamoto managed to solve a fundamental problem with digital currency, duplication. Unlike tangible currency like coins or paper money which could only be present at one place at a time, cryptocurrency could be duplicated which is also known as “double-spending”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since digital currency does not exist in physical space, the transaction of said currency would not be in a single person’s possession. As a result, digital currency could be spent more than once. In order to overcome this issue, Nakamoto created a blockchain system of verification.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Initially, one of the solutions to circumvent this problem would be third-party intermediaries like banks which would verify if the currency has already been used by its holder. However, given the additional costs and the risk of fraud of the trust-based model, Nakamoto decided to remove the human factor altogether and proposed a decentralised approach for transactions using ledgers.</p>

<p>This is where the blockchain comes into play. This system adds timestamps to transaction information, and cryptographic techniques are used to encrypt the data which cannot be changed and must be validated. Subsequently, the network is required to verify the authenticity of the transactions based on a majority consensus mechanism called proof-of-work.</p>

<h3>Is Nakamoto a real person?</h3>

<p>We know so little about the so-called father of cryptocurrency that many have questioned if Satoshi Nakamoto really does exist. However, given what is known about the mastermind behind this system, there seems to be at least one person, if not people behind it. Case in point, somebody would have to write a source code for Bitcoin, publish the white paper which began it all, send emails and even create a forum to talk about the cryptocurrency.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>About his disappearance&nbsp;</h3>

<p>Several reports have quoted Nakamoto’s last email written on 24 April 2011 which was a short statement to another developer where the creator of Bitcoin said “I’ve moved on to other things” and that the project was in “good hands”. In December 2010 following the creation and initial implementation of Bitcoin, the creator seemingly vanished from the public eye.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was in 2014 when a final forum post credited to Nakamoto simply said, “I am not Dorian Nakamoto.” This came after a Newsweek magazine article published in March of that year claimed that a 64-year-old Japanese-American physicist was the creator of Bitcoin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report said, “The trail followed by Newsweek led to a 64-year-old Japanese-American man whose name really is Satoshi Nakamoto”. Although it could be said that Nakamoto did not necessarily ‘disappear’ considering his identity was never revealed and anonymity would likely be his only choice to avoid public scrutiny.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Is Elon Musk Satoshi Nakamoto?</h3>

<p>There have been speculations about Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk being Satoshi Nakamoto after a former intern for Musk’s SpaceX company Sahil Gupta, in a blog post on the website Medium suggested so. He cited the billionaire’s knowledge and interests which could have led him to develop a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.</p>

<p>However, Musk has since denied this claim. In 2021, during a podcast by AI researcher Lex Fridman, the Tesla CEO said that he believes that the person behind the Nakamoto pseudonym is none other than cryptographic expert Nick Szabo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He seems to be the one more responsible for the ideas behind Bitcoin than anyone else. He claims not to be Nakamoto, but I'm not sure that's neither here nor there,” said Musk, as quoted by CNBC. However, Szabo had also previously denied this claim.&nbsp;<br />

What do we know about Satoshi Nakamoto? Nakamoto is said to be a pseudonym for the person or people who helped create Bitcoin but the real identity of who he, she or they might be, continues to remain one of the biggest mysteries of the 21st century. The mysterious individual or group was the author of a 2008 white paper which outlined the theory and operating structure of the Bitcoin payment system. Nakamoto’s identity continues to remain shrouded in mystery due to the lack of personal or background details about the person who would only communicate via email. One of the biggest indications that Nakamoto created Bitcoin was the famous white paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”. The elusive mastermind behind the now largest cryptocurrency in the world was said to be working on the first version of the software back in 2007. Around two years later, Nakamoto created the first-ever online message board post which was dedicated to cryptocurrency, on the P2P Foundation forum. “I’ve developed a new open source P2P e-cash system called Bitcoin. It’s completely decentralised, with no central server or trusted parties, because everything is based on crypto proof instead of trust. Give it a try, or take a look at the screenshots and design paper,” said Nakamoto, on the forum, as per Forbes. However, in 2010, his involvement with Bitcoin ended but the cryptocurrency did not. As of 2021, at least one million Bitcoin miners were verifying the data that make up the Bitcoin blockchain and the cryptocurrency continues to remain one of the world’s largest by market cap. What did Nakamoto do? It is worth noting that while the idea of digital currency was not new at the time, as reports suggest, there had been few attempts to create it. However, Nakamoto managed to solve a fundamental problem with digital currency, duplication. Unlike tangible currency like coins or paper money which could only be present at one place at a time, cryptocurrency could be duplicated which is also known as “double-spending”. Since digital currency does not exist in physical space, the transaction of said currency would not be in a single person’s possession. As a result, digital currency could be spent more than once. In order to overcome this issue, Nakamoto created a blockchain system of verification. Initially, one of the solutions to circumvent this problem would be third-party intermediaries like banks which would verify if the currency has already been used by its holder. However, given the additional costs and the risk of fraud of the trust-based model, Nakamoto decided to remove the human factor altogether and proposed a decentralised approach for transactions using ledgers. This is where the blockchain comes into play. This system adds timestamps to transaction information, and cryptographic techniques are used to encrypt the data which cannot be changed and must be validated. Subsequently, the network is required to verify the authenticity of the transactions based on a majority consensus mechanism called proof-of-work. Is Nakamoto a real person? We know so little about the so-called father of cryptocurrency that many have questioned if Satoshi Nakamoto really does exist. However, given what is known about the mastermind behind this system, there seems to be at least one person, if not people behind it. Case in point, somebody would have to write a source code for Bitcoin, publish the white paper which began it all, send emails and even create a forum to talk about the cryptocurrency. About his disappearance Several reports have quoted Nakamoto’s last email written on 24 April 2011 which was a short statement to another developer where the creator of Bitcoin said “I’ve moved on to other things” and that the project was in “good hands”. In December 2010 following the creation and initial implementation of Bitcoin, the creator seemingly vanished from the public eye. It was in 2014 when a final forum post credited to Nakamoto simply said, “I am not Dorian Nakamoto.” This came after a Newsweek magazine article published in March of that year claimed that a 64-year-old Japanese-American physicist was the creator of Bitcoin. The report said, “The trail followed by Newsweek led to a 64-year-old Japanese-American man whose name really is Satoshi Nakamoto”. Although it could be said that Nakamoto did not necessarily ‘disappear’ considering his identity was never revealed and anonymity would likely be his only choice to avoid public scrutiny. There have been speculations about Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk being Satoshi Nakamoto after a former intern for Musk’s SpaceX company Sahil Gupta, in a blog post on the website Medium suggested so. He cited the billionaire’s knowledge and interests which could have led him to develop a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. However, Musk has since denied this claim. In 2021, during a podcast by AI researcher Lex Fridman, the Tesla CEO said that he believes that the person behind the Nakamoto pseudonym is none other than cryptographic expert Nick Szabo. “He seems to be the one more responsible for the ideas behind Bitcoin than anyone else. He claims not to be Nakamoto, but I'm not sure that's neither here nor there,” said Musk, as quoted by CNBC. However, Szabo had also previously denied this claim. <p>Further research revealed that the AI bot, which use machine learning to produce natural language writing, performed better on true/false and multiple-choice questions (69.5&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;right), but less well on short-answer questions (between 28.7&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;and 39.1&nbsp;per cent).</p>

<p>The Mesquite Police Department in Texas said that the teacher Natally Garcia was charged with four counts of endangering children's lives. Garcia allegedly put four students in danger of bodily injury last week, police said.</p>

<p>Garcia allegedly made rules and space for the 12 and 13-year-old children in her class to fight in the classroom. She was reportedly seen in the security footage telling other students&nbsp;to guard the door.</p>

This comes as the UK government recently began its smoke-free drive despite concerns about an increasing number of teenagers using vaping devices.</p>

<p><strong>What did Inter Scientific find?</strong></p>

<p>The data by Inter Scientific shows that the illicit sale of oversized and overstrength vapes continues across the UK. Among those tested, the study also found that at least eight devices purporting to contain no addictive substances actually had almost 20 mg/ml of nicotine, which is the legal limit in the UK. One of them had levels higher than 50 per cent of the legal limit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We have seen a large increase in the number of illegal vape products being seized by trading standards and sent for analysis. Though these products don’t pose an immediate health risk, they are circumventing UK regulation,” said the chief executive at Inter Scientific, David Lawson, as cited by The Guardian.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Out of the 52 vapes bought in England, 73 per cent were above the legal e-cigarette tank capacity of 2 ml, said the company which offers analytical testing of products and checks if they are following regulations, reported The Guardian. Over 40 per cent of those tested were filled with 5 ml of liquid or more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, none of the e-cigarettes Inter Scientific studied were listed in the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. Without them being registered in the MRHA database, there is no record of any harm associated with them. This comes as vapes are required to display the manufacturer’s details as well as a list of ingredients and relevant health warnings.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>UK government’s ‘swap to stop’ initiative</strong></p>

<p>According to the latest report by Action on Smoking and Health (Ash), in 2022, seven per cent of the 11 to 17-year-olds,&nbsp;among those surveyed in the UK&nbsp;said they used vapes as compared to 3.3 per cent a year prior. This comes as the UK government launched an “illicit vapes enforcement squad” as part of a crackdown on the sale of e-cigarettes to people under the age of 18.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This week the government, under the “swap to stop” initiative also announced plans for one million smokers to swap cigarettes for vapes. Under this scheme e-cigarette starter kits will be offered to nearly one in five in England.&nbsp;<br />

Global space agencies like the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) have in recent years sent rovers to Mars to aid this search remotely. However, the accuracy of these random searches remains low.</p>

<p>To remedy this, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute has been exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for finding extraterrestrial life on Mars and other icy worlds.</p>

<p>According to a report on Space, a recent study from SETI&nbsp;states that AI could be used to detect microbial life in the depths of the icy oceans on other planets.</p>

<p>In a paper published in Nature Astronomy, the team details how they trained a machine-learning model to scan data for signs of microbial life or other unusual features that could be indicative of alien life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using a machine learning algorithm called convolutional neural networks (CNNs) a multidisciplinary team of scientists led by SETI's Kim Warren-Rhodes has mapped sparse lifeforms on Earth.&nbsp;Warren-Rhodes worked alongside experts from other prestigious institutions: Michael Phillips of Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab&nbsp;and Freddie Kalaitzis of the University&nbsp;of Oxford.</p>

<p>The system developed by them used statistical ecology and AI-detected biosignatures with up to 87.5 per cent accuracy, compared to only 10 per cent for random searches. As per the researchers, it&nbsp;can&nbsp;potentially reduce the search area by up to 97 per cent, making it easier for scientists to locate potential chemical traces of life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For testing their system,&nbsp;they initially&nbsp;focused on the sparse lifeforms that dwell in salt domes, rocks, and crystals at Salar de Pajonales at the boundary of the Chilean Atacama Desert and Altiplano.</p>

<p>Warren-Rhodes and his team collected over 8,000 images and 1,000 samples from Salar de Pajonales to search for photosynthetic microbes that may represent a biosignature on NASA's "ladder of life detection" for finding life beyond Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The team also used drone imagery to simulate Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's High-Resolution Imaging Experiment camera's Martian terrain images to examine the region.</p>

<p>They found that microbial life in the region is concentrated in biological hotspots that strongly relate to the availability of water.</p>

<p>Researchers suggest that the machine learning tools developed can be used in robotic planetary missions like NASA's Perseverance Rover. The tools can guide rovers towards areas with a higher probability of having traces of alien life, even if they are rare or hidden.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With these models, we can design tailor-made roadmaps and algorithms to guide rovers to places with the highest probability of harbouring past or present life  — no matter how hidden or rare," explained Warren-Rhodes.&nbsp;</p>

In a paper published in Nature Astronomy, the team details how they trained a machine-learning model to scan data for signs of microbial life or other unusual features that could be indicative of alien life. The system developed by them used statistical ecology and AI-detected biosignatures with up to 87.5 per cent accuracy, compared to only 10 per cent for random searches. As per the researchers, it can potentially reduce the search area by up to 97 per cent, making it easier for scientists to locate potential chemical traces of life. Warren-Rhodes and his team collected over 8,000 images and 1,000 samples from Salar de Pajonales to search for photosynthetic microbes that may represent a biosignature on NASA's "ladder of life detection" for finding life beyond Earth. The team also used drone imagery to simulate Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's High-Resolution Imaging Experiment camera's Martian terrain images to examine the region. They found that microbial life in the region is concentrated in biological hotspots that strongly relate to the availability of water. Researchers suggest that the machine learning tools developed can be used in robotic planetary missions like NASA's Perseverance Rover. The tools can guide rovers towards areas with a higher probability of having traces of alien life, even if they are rare or hidden. "With these models, we can design tailor-made roadmaps and algorithms to guide rovers to places with the highest probability of harbouring past or present life  — no matter how hidden or rare," explained Warren-Rhodes. <p>Nearly two years after discontinuing the use of the controversial robot dog, the New York Police Department (NYPD) is bringing it back.&nbsp;The usage of Digidog was viewed by New Yorkers as an unnecessary and uncomfortable expansion of severe policing in April 2021, so the city's law enforcement officials sent the robot back to Boston Dynamics, its maker.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In December 2020, the police department made their initial announcement&nbsp;of the Digidog. It had generated criticism because of its striking resemblance to a fictitious dystopian killer robot dog that was shown in a Black Mirror episode.</p>

<p>The Digidog will be reintroduced, according to NYC mayor Eric Adams, who added during a press conference on Tuesday that it can "save lives". The Digidog will be used for "assessing hazardous situations" in the city.</p>

<p>During the hearing at the House Intelligence Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee, top Pentagon intelligence official Ronald Moultrie said that through "rigorous" analysis, most&nbsp;UAPs can be identified.</p>

<p>"Any object we encounter can likely be isolated, characterised, identified and, if necessary, mitigated," Moultrie said.</p>

<p>One&nbsp;such incident from 2004 which has no explanation involves the fighter pilots operating from an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. They reportedly encountered an object that appeared to have descended tens of thousands of feet before stopping and hovering.</p>

<p>"There are a small handful [of events] in which there are flight characteristics or signature management that we can't explain with the data we have available," said Scott Bray, the deputy director of naval intelligence at the hearing.
