Tim Southee showed his class during the first Test against England as he dismantled Root and Co. in the first innings after scalping six wickets at Lord's.

“I think Tim Southee will trouble the Indians the most in the swinging conditions. He is quite clever. He draws the batsman in by bowling slightly wide of the crease and slightly fuller. And that’s gonna be the danger ball for the Indian batsman. He’s going to lure them into hitting a half volley into the covers, and he will look to swing that ball. So that’s the ball the Indians need to watch out for," Panesar said while speaking with sports presenter Dr Yash Kashikar on Sportzoclock.

Pitch in Southampton has favoured the pacers and Virat and Co. will have to be careful with the Kiwi bowling attack. As per Panesar, New Zealand seem like a stronger team than Men in Blue.

“I think New Zealand look slightly the better side. The reason being they have a lot more variations. They have a left-armer, right-armer and the tall bowler Jamieson as well. And that’s a lot more difficult for a batsman to adjust to.

“So NZ will be hoping that the Indians will be preparing against the likes of a right armer and a left-armer and practicing with the ball swinging, because that is where it is going to be really testing for India,” he said.

Aus vs NZ: New Zealand woes continue with bowler Matt Henry injury

Trent Boult and Tim Southee led New Zealand's charge against Sri Lanka on day two of the rain-hit second Test in Colombo on Friday.

The pacemen claimed two wickets each as Sri Lanka reached 144 for six at lunch when rain came down and no further play was possible.

Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne moved from his overnight 49 to score 65 and provided the only bit of resistance in the morning session, which saw 29.3 overs bowled.

Boult took two early wickets in one over after Sri Lanka resumed the day at 85 for two.

Dhananjaya de Silva on 32 and Dilruwan Perera on five were at the crease.

Southee, like Boult, also delivered a double-wicket maiden as the duo put on a superb display of seam bowling under overcast conditions.

Boult got overnight batsman Angelo Mathews caught behind for two to reach a landmark of 250 Test wickets -- only the third Kiwi bowler to achieve the feat.

Boult trapped Kusal Perera lbw for nought after just three balls as Sri Lanka slipped to 93-4 and would have been in further trouble had Boult held on to a simple catch from de Silva off his own bowling a few overs later.

"Today's a special day for Trent. He's become the third highest wicket-taker for New Zealand," New Zealand bowling coach Shane Jurgensen told reporters.

"He's got great passion and energy which he brings to our team. I think the skill and execution and the way he's contributed to the team has been amazing."

Karunaratne also got a lifeline on 61 when Kane Williamson could not grab a tough chance at short mid-wicket off Ajaz Patel.

But the left-hander, who completed his 23rd Test fifty after resuming the day on 49, soon fell, caught behind off Southee for 65.

Southee struck again in the same over to send Niroshan Dickwella trudging back to the pavilion for nought.

"Tim and Trent have been doing it for a while. They've been creating wickets and they're very accurate, and they've got the ability to swing the ball," said Jurgensen.

"Today there might have been a little bit of swing with the overhead conditions, and it just seemed to be doing a little bit. They both work really hard on their fitness, and that's a big factor in their resilience.

"And they don't just play Test cricket. They play basically all formats. To play all formats and do as well as they've done is awesome."

SLvsNZ: Trent Boult, Tim Southee rattle Sri Lanka in rain-hit Test

Opting to bat, India lost both its openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan early as the Men in Blue face New Zealand in the fifth and final ODI Westpac Stadium, Wellington on Sunday. The two departed for 2 and 6 runs respectively.

Meanwhile, India's Test sensation Shubman Gill once again failed to score big for his side and got caught off Matt Henry after making just seven runs.

Earlier, Martin Guptill was ruled out with a back injury and has been replaced by Colin Munro, who was dropped for the fourth ODI, which New Zealand won, after a string of failures.

India lead the series overall 3-1. The inclusion of Munro is the only change in the New Zealand side with swing bowler Tim Southee again unwanted.

India have MS Dhoni back behind the stumps after the master finisher missed the previous two matches because of a hamstring twinge, and they have also brought back quick bowler Mohammed Shami.

"The average score here is around 230-240, but if you bat well you can get 300," Rohit Sharma said.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said he was happy with the toss outcome because he wanted to bowl first "to see if we can get a bit out of the pitch early on".

IND vs NZ, 5th ODI: Early wickets rattle India, are 18/3 after 9 overs

Tim Southee rescued New Zealand with the bat then dragged his side back into the match with the ball after Sri Lanka's Suranga Lakmal's career-best figures had threatened to dominate the first day of the second test in Christchurch on Wednesday.

Southee counter-attacked with wicketkeeper BJ Watling to blast 68 from 65 balls and take New Zealand from the depths of despair on 64 for six after Lakmal had destroyed the top order on a green wicket at Hagley Oval.

The 30-year-old Southee and Watling (46) combined for 108-runs as New Zealand were dismissed for 178 with Lakmal finishing with five for 54.

First test centurion Angelo Mathews was on 27 with Roshen Silva (15) as the visitors were 88 for four at stumps, with neither team holding the advantage as both seek to win the two-match series with victory in Christchurch.

The first test in Wellington ended last week in a damp draw after virtually all of the final day's play was washed out.

The 31-year-old Lakmal, utilising the overcast, cool conditions and green pitch, had reduced the hosts to 36 for four after Dinesh Chandimal had won the toss and wasted little time in choosing to field.

Lakmal went to lunch having bowled 12 successive overs with figures of four for 18.

Southee, whose innings of 77 not out in his debut in 2008 remains his highest score, then decided attack was the best form of defence and belted six fours and three sixes to resurrect his side's fortunes.

His dismissal, to a brilliant, one-handed leaping catch by Danushka Gunathilaka at short mid-wicket, sparked another collapse with the last three wickets adding just six runs.

Southee then took the first three Sri Lankan wickets to reduce them to 21 for three inside 10 overs.

The second victim Chandimal for six moved him to 234 test wickets and third on New Zealand's all-time list.

Chris Martin had been in third on 233, although Southee is still a long way away from Daniel Vettori's 361 and Richard Hadlee's New Zealand-leading mark of 431 wickets.

After his initial spell, Southee continued to be a threat towards the end of the day's play as Silva and Mathews played and missed several times but saw their side through to stumps.

Southee rescues New Zealand with bat and ball after Lakmal blast

Tim Southee's prophecy before the start of the first Test against Sri Lanka came true on the opening day of the match as he took his eighth five-wicket haul at the Basin Reserve on Saturday.

Sri Lanka reached stumps at 275 for nine, after a stubborn fightback from opener Dimuth Karunaratne, who made 79, and former captain Angelo Mathews (83) rescued the touring side from early trouble.

The duo combined for a fourth-wicket stand of 133 after seamer Southee had reduced the visitors to nine for three inside the first four overs.

Niroshan Dickwella remained unbeaten on 73 to further thwart New Zealand's attack in the final session.

The 30-year-old Southee had spoken on Thursday of liking the look of a green pitch in Wellington after low, slow and spin friendly pitches in the United Arab Emirates in his team's 2-1 series victory against Pakistan.

NZvsSL: Tim Southee picks five as Sri Lanka reach 275-9 in first Test

Virat Kohli-led Bangalore fell like nine pins after the powerplay as the team ended their innings at just 127, their lowest total in this year's IPL.

At one point Bangalore were 47 for the loss of one wicket, but then lost Kohli, AB and Mandeep to spin in the space of five overs.

Parthiv Patel, who played his first game in IPL 2018, smashed a half-century and also became the top scorer for the team by making 53 runs off 41 balls.&nbsp

The team could have ended their innings with the lowest score in this year's league before Tim Southee came to their rescue.&nbsp

He made 36 runs in 26 balls to save his team from drowning and set a decent score on board.&nbsp

Apart from Patel and Southee, no other player scored in two digits.&nbsp

Skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers fell succumbed to Chennai's spin attack as Bangalore were put into bat at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, on Saturday.

Kohli was clean bowled by Ravindra Jadeja while de Villiers gave away his wicket to Harbhajan Singh.

Kohli was departed for eight runs and de Villiers made just one.

Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl.

Chennai is coming off from a tragic defeat against Kolkata in their previous encounter and must have worked on their loopholes and rectified the errors in order to earn two crucial points.

On the other hand, team Bangalore is high on spirit as they have won the previous match against Mumbai.

The competition between the teams which are placed at the fourth, fifth and sixth position at the league's table is very tough now.&nbsp

Chennai have lost its two previous clashes out of three and looked a bit off but with a well-balanced team, it requires just one win to prove caliber of the entire team.

On the other hand, confidence Virat Kohli is leading the batting department from the front but still, team Bangalore is dealing with the problems of bowling unit, which has been very expensive especially in death overs.

The current team of Chennai is very sorted and any change at this moment is not required.

On the other hand, the good news for Bangalore is that their star player, AB de Villiers is fit and back in the squad but opener Quinton de Kock has flown back home due to some personal reasons and skipper Virat Kohli might replace him by Manan Vohra.

In the absence of wicket-keeper, the best replacement for team Bangalore is Parthiv Patel.

Tim Southee got his first wicket in the second over and saw off Fakhar Zaman, later he took Mohammad Nawaz's (7) and Faheem Ashraf's (7) wicket in the fourth and fourteenth over respectively.

Besides Tim Southee, Seth Rance also destroyed Pakistani line up by taking three wickets of Umar Amin (0), Hasan Ali (23) and Mohammad Amir (3). Anaru Kitchen got one wicket of Haris Sohail (9).

Babar found a determined ally in Hasan Ali and together they made 30 runs at a very crucial point but the latter lost his wicket to Seth Rance in the 17th over.

Adding to the destruction, Mitchell Santner out bowled Sarfraz Ahmed and the next ball was caught behind for a golden duck claiming Shadab Khan's wicket that ends Pakistan's every possible hope of resurrection.

Blackcaps are already on a high having just swept the one-day series against Pakistan and are backing themselves to continue that form as they switch to the shortest form of the game.

However, they suffered a setback hours before the match when captain Kane Williamson was withdrawn as a precautionary measure after complaining of a tight thigh.

Stand-in skipper Tim Southee said it was "not a typical" wicket at Westpac Stadium but he opted to bowl "as hopefully, we will get something out of it early on."

New Zealand is resting fast bowlers Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson for the match.

Pakistan will be without Shoaib Malik who is out of the series after a delayed concussion suffered during the fourth ODI.

New Zealand vs Pakistan 1st T20I: Pakistan under pressure, 105 all out

Fast bowlers Tim Southee and James Neesham ran through India's middle order to help New Zealand to a 19-run series-levelling win in the fourth one-day international in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Earlier opener Martin Guptill scored a gritty half-century to drive New Zealand to 260 for seven after electing to bat first.

"Coming here, we had to decide between dew that may or may not come in versus the deterioration. The dew didn't come in, so that perhaps worked in our favour," skipper Kane Williamson said of his decision to defend the score.

Southee hurt India's reply with an early wicket but Ajinkya Rahane (57) and Virat Kohli (45) put on 79 runs for the second wicket to steady the chase.

Kohli dominated his stay at the crease with two fours and a six before his innings was cut short by leg-spinner Ish Sodhi who got the star batsman caught behind.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is trying to make the number four slot his own, walked out to a rousing welcome in his hometown Ranchi.

Neesham soon swung into action with two big wickets of Rahane and Dhoni as India's chase began to fall apart.

Southee (3-40) and Neesham (2-38) shared five wickets between them to bowl out India for 241 runs in 48.4 overs.

The fifth and final game of the series is slated for Saturday in Visakhapatnam.

"India is a great side, it is exciting to go 2-2 into the final match," New Zealand captain said.

Cricket: New Zealand beat India by 19 runs in 4th ODI

Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer won the toss and opted to bat on what is expected to be a flat pitch in the first test of the two-match series against New Zealand at the Queen's Sports Club today.

The tourists go into the match as overwhelming favourites against a Zimbabwe side that have just played 10 tests in the last four years. The hosts have handed debuts to opener Chamu Chibhabha, all-rounder Prince Masvaure and seamer Michael Chinouya, while Cremer will lead the side for the first time.

New Zealand opted for a seam attack that included Tim Southee, Neil Wagner and Trent Boult, as well as the spin variety of Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner and Williamson, who is also captaining for the first time in tests.

The match is a first test for Zimbabwe in almost two years having last played away in Bangladesh in November 2014. It will be the first time they will play in Bulawayo since losing to New Zealand by 34 runs in a one-off test five years ago. They will do well to run the tourists so close again.

Zimbabwe's record at the Queen's Sports Club is poor, with just a single victory in 19 matches played there to go with 11 defeats. They have never beaten New Zealand in a five-day game, suffering nine losses in the 15 matches played.
