An attack blamed on the Islamic State (IS) group killed at least 11 people in central Syria, said a war monitor on Sunday (Febraury 12).&nbsp;Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the IS "attacked about 75 people on Saturday while they were collecting truffles in the Palmyra area, in the eastern countryside of Homs."

The attack killed "10 civilians, including a woman, and a member of the (Syrian) regime forces," it said, adding that others still remain missing.&nbsp;

The attack was reported by Syrian state news agency SANA as well but with a lower death toll. The report said that IS "terrorists" fired machine guns and killed four civilians, including a woman.

Ten others were wounded in the attack, some "critically", the news agency added.&nbsp;

Six civilians were killed and ten injured in the twin attacks at the Dangri Village of Rajouri district. In an IED blast earlier today, two children were killed while four more were injured at the same location where the terrorists attacked yesterday.&nbsp;

The first attack took place yesterday evening, where terrorists suspected to have infiltrated from across the border entered the Dangri village and indiscriminately fired on the civilians of the area. The firing resulted in the death of four civilians while six were injured in the attack. All the injured are being treated at various hospitals in Rajouri and Jammu.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir government announced an ex-gratia relief of ₹10 lakh and a government job for the kin of the deceased. ''Ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakh and a government job would be given to the next of kin of each of those civilians martyred in the dastardly attack. Seriously injured would be given ₹ 1 lakh. Officials have been directed to ensure the best treatment to injured,'' said Lieutenant General of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.

Political parties in the Union Territory have also condemned the attacks. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah, said that killing innocents is the outcome of hatred being spread in the country and that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) should find a solution to prevent such incidents.

''The country can never move forward by dividing people, but unity is imperative for progress. It is unfortunate that militancy still exists in Jammu &amp; Kashmir as innocent people are being killed, '' said Dr Farooq Abdullah.

There was an attack in Srinagar yesterday as well. It was reported that a grenade was hurled at the CRPF patrolling party which missed the target, and one civilian was injured in the attack. The terrorists managed to escape from the location after the attack.&nbsp;

Multiple terrorist attacks witnessed in J&K as new year begins

A terrorist attack blamed on Islamic State in eastern Syria killed at least 10 oil field workers, a day after the Syrian Kurdish-led forces warned of an assault on the terrorists.&nbsp;The attack targeting three buses transporting workers from the al-Taim oil field in Deir Ezzor province killed nearly a dozen people and injured two others, the SANA news agency reported.

The nature of the attack in the Kurdish-held area remains unknown. However, a British-based war monitor said Islamic State group cells attacked the oil field workers.&nbsp;

"The episode began with explosive devices that went off as the buses drove by, and then the group's militants opened fire at them," mentioned Rami Abdel Rahman, Director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.&nbsp;

Earlier this week, in a bid to free their fighters, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Daesh) attacked a prison in Raqqa, killing six Kurdish soldiers. Later, on Thursday, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched an offensive against the Islamic State group fighters.&nbsp;

According to the SDF, Operation al-Jazeera Thunderbolt&nbsp;aims to eradicate IS terrorists from regions under recent attack. They also mentioned that the operation was in alliance&nbsp;with the U.S. However, the international force has not confirmed its involvement.

The IS terrorists have lately conducted eight assaults on the Deir Ezzor region, Hasakeh, and Al-Hol camp for displaced people, said an SDF statement.

SDF referred to the recent Turkish airstrikes in northeast Syria and alleged that IS has been trying to take advantage of the situation. In 2019, the SDF drove the IS from its last stronghold.&nbsp;

However, even though IS collapsed, its remaining fighters have continued attacking Iraq and Syria. According to IS, Monday's attack on Raqqa was to avenge the Muslim prisoners and the deaths of female relatives of terrorists living in the Al-Hol camp.

Officials in the United States, on Sunday, announced that they have detained a suspected third conspirator for allegedly making the bomb which blew up the Pan Am flight 103 and killed 270 people over Scotland’s Lockerbie in 1988. The arrested has once again brought the over-three-decade-old terrorist attack into the spotlight as the officials continue to pursue those responsible for the attack.&nbsp; 
 
How did the Lockerbie attack happen?

On December 21, 1988, a bomb which was planted on Pam Am Flight 103 which was a Boeing 747 exploded less than an hour after the flight took off which destroyed the plane carrying passengers from nearly 21 countries. The plane departed from London’s Heathrow airport and was headed to New York.&nbsp;

The attack killed 259 people in the air and 11 on the ground and remains the deadliest terror attack on British soil, to date. Subsequently, the terrorists were connected to Libya, whose government had engaged in several hostilities with the United States and other Western countries, at the time.&nbsp;

What happened next?

Investigation into the attack has been going on for decades but it was not until at least three years after the incident that two Libyans were charged by US and British officials. On November 13, 1991, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi (48) and Al Amin Khalifa Fhimah (44) were charged with 270 counts of murder, conspiracy to murder and violating Britain's 1982 Aviation Security Act. The duo was also accused of being Libyan intelligence agents.

However, at the time, the country’s leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi refused to turn them over, leading to long negotiations which concluded in 1999 after the US and Britain proposed to try the suspects in the Netherlands under Scottish law. The trial began in May 2000, before a court at Camp Zeist in the Netherlands, where the two accused had pleaded not guilty to murder.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On January 31, 2001, Megrahi was found guilty of murder after the historic trial. The judge had recommended a minimum of two decades in jail, given the “horrendous nature of this crime”, and was later sentenced to life. However, the co-accused, &nbsp;Fhimah, was not found guilty and was free to return home. A year later, Megrahi, had appealed against the conviction which was later rejected.&nbsp; 
 
Furthermore, in 2003, his sentence was increased&nbsp;to life in prison&nbsp;after a Scottish law was changed and he was ordered to appear before&nbsp;the courts so that his punishment period could be set. Subsequently, the accused was granted a second appeal against the conviction. Five years later, Megrahi's lawyer reveals that the former Libyan intelligence agent has been diagnosed with “advanced stage” prostate cancer.&nbsp;

In July 2009, Megrahi asked the court to be released on humanitarian grounds due to his illness. The next month the Scottish court let him go and he returned home to Libya aboard a jet belonging to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who let the Lockerbie bomber go was questioned in the Scottish Parliament about his decision where he asserted that he stands by his decision and will live with the consequences.&nbsp;

In 2011, Megrahi died at his home in Tripoli, aged 60. Meanwhile, the families of those killed filed a lawsuit against the Libyan government demanding that they be held accountable and in 2003 the regime formally accepted the responsibility for the bombing and renounced terrorism. Additionally, they also paid $2.7 billion in compensation to the families following negotiations in London.&nbsp;

In 2014, Scotland's top prosecutor, Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland pledged that he will continue to track down Megrahi's accomplices. However, until Gaddafi’s ouster, the investigation and pursuit of others responsible for the bombing largely stalled.&nbsp; 
 
What led to Mas’ud’s arrest?

The Libyan man accused of making the bomb that killed 270 people, Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi, is now in custody two years after the former US Attorney General Bill Barr first announced the charges filed against him. The alleged former senior Libyan intelligence official was in Libyan custody and was charged by the US with two criminal counts related to the bombing.&nbsp;

Even though he will be the third Libyan official charged by the US he will be the first one to be tried in an American court. The court documents in the US described Mas'ud as an expert bombmaker who joined Libya's External Security Organization intelligence service in the 1970s. The accused was working approximately from 1973 to 2011 for the country’s intelligence service and was taken into custody by Libyan law enforcement after Gaddafi’s ouster.

According to the US justice department, he had worked for Libyan intelligence in various capacities and was also allegedly involved in the bombing of the LaBelle Discotheque, Germany, in 1986 which killed two US service members. The breakthrough in the case was marked by the US officials receiving a copy of Mas’ud’s interview conducted, on September 12, 2012, by the Libyan authorities soon after his arrest.&nbsp;

During the interview, the accused admitted that he had built the bomb used in the Pan Am attack and also to working with the aforementioned duo who planted the bomb. According to the FBI affidavit, the accused said that the attack was ordered by Libyan intelligence and that country’s leader Ghadafi had, “thanked him and other members of the team for their successful attack on the United States.” &nbsp;

The arrest, which was first reported by BBC, has reportedly prompted infighting among Libyan politicians which include the parliament on the east side of the country and the Government of National Unity in Tripoli. The former has accused the Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamd al-Dbeibah of taking Washington’s side due to the lack of an extradition treaty.&nbsp;

However, there is no clarity on how the accused was taken into custody by the US but reportedly he was flown in from the Libyan city of Misrata. A Justice Department spokesperson, told Reuters, that the US has custody of the accused and that he is expected to make an initial court appearance in a federal court in Washington, the details of which trial will be released soon.&nbsp;

During the interview, the accused admitted that he had built the bomb used in the Pan Am attack and also to working with the aforementioned duo who planted the bomb. According to the FBI affidavit, the accused said that the attack was ordered by Libyan intelligence and that country’s leader Ghadafi had, “thanked him and other members of the team for their successful attack on the United States.” The arrest, which was first reported by BBC, has reportedly prompted infighting among Libyan politicians which include the parliament on the east side of the country and the Government of National Unity in Tripoli. The former has accused the Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamd al-Dbeibah of taking Washington’s side due to the lack of an extradition treaty. ADGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar&nbsp;said, "This cowardice and inhumane act of terrorism is being investigated on top priority and the terrorists involved in this terror crime would be brought to justice soon. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on."&nbsp;

Meanwhile, J&amp;K Police in Pulwama along with Army (44RR) and CRPF (183Bn) at a checkpoint established at Khamri Chowk area of Pulwama have arrested a terrorist associate of proscribed terror outfit LeT.&nbsp;

"A military bus in the suburbs of Damascus was hit by a terrorist bombing using an explosive device that was planted previously, which led to the deaths of 18 soldiers," the official SANA news agency said.&nbsp;

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack, but it is believed that a jihadist organisation might be behind the ambush&nbsp;

The war in Syria that began in 2011 has claimed almost nearly half a million people and forced around half of the country's pre-war population flee from their homes.&nbsp;

Notably, this is not the first time that the Syrian army has been attacked.&nbsp;

In June,&nbsp;13 Syrian soldiers were in the northern province of Raqqa by a bus bombing, which was claimed by the Islamic State group killed.&nbsp;

Similarly in March, 15 soldiers were killed in an IS attack on an army bus in the central Syrian desert, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.&nbsp;

In October last year,&nbsp;a bomb attack on an army bus in Damascus killed at least 13 people. It was not claimed by any group.&nbsp;

According to The Nation, the effects of these terrorist attacks have been particularly felt in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and have led to a deadlock in the peace negotiations.

Eleven Egyptian troops killed in 'terrorist attack', says army

Four people were killed and several wounded in a knife attack outside a shopping mall in southern Israel city of Beersheba&nbsp;on Tuesday, according to local media reports.

The police are describing the incident as a suspected "terrorist attack".

"It appeared to be a single terrorist who went on a stabbing spree," police spokesman Eli Levy said on Tuesday on Channel 13 TV, TRT &nbsp;

According to police, he first stabbed a woman to death at a nearby gas station in the southern city and then rammed his vehicle into a cyclist.&nbsp;The attacker then got out&nbsp;and stabbed several people at the BIG shopping centre.

This is the third stabbing attack this week, according to Israeli media.

Two military bases in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province came under heavy attack by the militants, triggering gun battles between the armed&nbsp;forces and the insurgents.

The Wednesday late-night attacks were claimed by the newly formed separatist Balochistan Nationalist Army (BNA).

It came hours before&nbsp;Prime Minister Imran Khan set off for Beijing for the opening of the Winter Olympic Games.

The Pakistan Army said both of the attacks —one in Panjgur district and the other in Naushki district —had been repulsed.

They said that following the combing operations, 14 militants were shot down, while the number of casualties on the army side is expected to be around seven.

In Naushki, the security forces killed five militants while it lost four of its men. At Panjgur, the armed forces have eliminated four insurgents, while a manhunt is still on against four more. During the intense fighting, three soldiers lost their lives, while four are injured.

However, the BNA claimed that it killed more than 100 soldiers.

In a press release dated February 3, 2022, the militant organisation said that major parts of Panjgur and Nushki military camps in Pakistan were still under its control. "Large parts of camps have been completely destroyed. Backup troops have arrived for the enemy forces. However, they have failed to weaken fidayee positions inside the camp."

The ethnic Baloch militants have been fighting the government for decades seeking independence. They say that the government unfairly exploits Balochistan’s rich gas and mineral resources.

Balochistan province has been the scene of intense fighting between the rebel forces and the Pakistan Army.

The Balochistan Nationalist Army was established last month when two minor separatist groups – the Balochistan Republican Army and the United Baloch Army – merged and vowed to continue attacks.

The latest violence comes a week after armed fighters killed 10 soldiers in an attack on a security post in the town of Kech in Balochistan province, which has been the site of a long-running armed rebellion.

The attacks have been growing in numbers ever since the involvement of China through its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The remains of two more victims of 9/11 have been identified, thanks to advanced DNA technology, New York officials announced Tuesday, just days before the 20th anniversary of the attacks.

The office of the city's chief medical examiner said it had formally identified the 1,646th and 1,647th victim of the al-Qaeda attacks on New York's Twin Towers which killed 2,753 people.

They are the first identifications of victims from the collapse of the World Trade Center since October 2019.

"Twenty years ago, we made a promise to the families of World Trade Center victims to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to identify their loved ones, and with these two new identifications, we continue to fulfill that sacred obligation," chief medical examiner Barbara Sampson said in a statement.

"No matter how much time passes since September 11, 2001, we will never forget, and we pledge to use all the tools at our disposal to make sure all those who were lost can be reunited with their families," she added.

The 1,646th victim was identified as Dorothy Morgan, of Hempstead, Long Island. Her identity was confirmed through DNA testing of remains recovered in 2001, the examiner's office said.

Data collected before Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan suggests that a lot of people in America are still scared about possible terrorist attacks and have developed a fear of entering skyscrapers.<o:p></o:p>

Majority of Americans who are old enough to remember the attack have clear memories of where they were and what were doing when the heinous attack took place. These people are also scared of travelling in planes and going to a skyscraper now.<o:p></o:p>

Nearly 26 per cent Americans are now scared of flying in airplanes and 36 per cent are hesitant about travelling abroad. In addition to this, 27 per cent people are unwilling to enter a skyscraper and 37 per cent people admit they try to avoid any event that is being attended by hundreds of people.<o:p></o:p>

While the numbers have reduced, the fear still continues decades later, and some believe it may increase now as Taliban took control of Afghanistan.<o:p></o:p>

In a survey, it was also revealed that 44 per cent people from minority groups have altered their lifestyle and are scared of flying since the attack. This showed the way the minority groups were targeted in the country after the attack, as only 21 per cent of White Americans agreed to this change.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said, "On the basis of the information received, a trap was laid near Millennium Park, Sarai Kale Khan, and two suspected terrorists, who are residents of Jammu and Kashmir, were apprehended around 10.15 pm."

Meanwhile, the police have been carrying out at several other locations in the national capital in connection with the arrest of Jaish terrorists.&nbsp;

The arrests of the eleven guilty were made after raids in six German states. These raids were conducted by&nbsp;heavily-armed special units. Out of the arrested, four of the prime suspects have revealed plans of initiating&nbsp;&nbsp;"a civil-war-like situation... via as yet undefined attacks on politicians, asylum seekers and people of Muslim faith," federal prosecutors said. These suspects had also founded a "right-wing terrorist organisation" with the aim of "destabilising and ultimately overthrowing" Germany's democratic order.

The group also revealed that they met regularly to plan the attacks, and the meetings were usually moderated by two main suspects, who are being identified as&nbsp;Werner S. and Tony E. These members also communicated through messenger apps, which have not been revealed yet.

Through the raids, the German police had discovered several weapons, which also included a self-made "slam gun", which was almost identical to the one used in the Halle attack.

The raids and the arrests were a part of German police's heightened security against the far-right and extremists groups in the country.&nbsp;Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announced late last year 600 new posts across the federal police and domestic security services to track far-right extremist threats, citing a growing danger.
