From PM Narendra Modi to Abhinav Bindra: Rich tributes pour in as hockey legend Balbir Singh Sr passes away

Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts has said that there is 9 out 10 chance that India will visit Australia for a four-match Test series later in the year 2020 as he downplayed the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Australian cricket board is under immense financial pressure and is desperate to hold the India series after cutting costs due to the pandemic. The India tour of Australia is scheduled to be played between October 2020 and January 2021.

"I guess there's no such thing as certainty in today's world so I can't say 10 (out of 10), but I'm going to say nine out of 10," Roberts was quoted as saying.

On a scale of 10, chance of India touring Down Under is 9: Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts

A Hollywood moment for NBA legend Kobe Bryant proved a big draw in a Beverly Hills auction of sport memorabilia, his handprints in concrete selling for $75,000.

Julien's Auctions said the handprints were tests that were made by Bryant in 2011, when he became the first athlete to leave his prints alongside those of some of Hollywood's biggest stars in the forecourt of the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

The item fetched more than 18 times its presale estimate of $4,000-6,000.

Other highlights of the Julien's auction included a full uniform worn by Bryant during the 1999-2000 NBA Finals and embroidered with an official NBA logo under a black band worn in remembrance of Wilt Chamberlain that sold for $43,750 -- more than four times its estimate of $10,000.

Bryant, who won five NBA titles in a 20-year career with the Lakers, died in a helicopter crash in January that also claimed the life of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.

Memorabilia of his career is fetching jaw-dropping auction prices, with a Lakers championship ring that he gave his mother selling for $201,250 at an auction run by New Jersey-based Goldin Auctions this week.

One of Bryant's rookie cards sold for $110,400 in the Goldin sale.

Bryant-related items realized $202,590 at the Julien's auction, where one 2006-07 season game-worn jersey sold for $22,400.

England paceman Chris Woakes is glad to be suffering the "normality" of familiar aches and pains following his first bowling net practice since the coronavirus lockdown.

Batsmen and wicketkeepers are due to return from June 1.

The players are seeking to build up their fitness ahead of a three-Test series at home against the West Indies, which looks set to be rescheduled for July behind closed doors.

At a time when the entire world was battling the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, the Odisha, West Bengal and parts of Bangladesh were dealt with a massive blow in the form of cyclone Amphan. The worst effect of the super cyclone was felt in West Bengal where many lives have been lost with people becoming homeless due to the catastrophe. Restoration process and rescue operations started immediately after the cyclone was over and BCCI president and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly lauded Kolkata Police for their immediate assistance in beginning the process. The death toll in West Bengal has risen to 80 with several others injured. Even Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an aerial survey along with WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before the central government allocated Rs 1000 crore for immediate assistance of West Bengal in the wake cyclone Amphan. On Friday, Ganguly shared a couple of videos on social media platform Twitter where Kolkata Police could be seen assisting with the removal of broken trees.
The CEO of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rahul Johri has said that the board is planning to conduct the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 with Indian and overseas players after the monsoon. The plan depends majorly on the fate of ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by Australia from October 18 to November 15. A decision on the showpiece event is likely to be made when ICC’s board members meet on May 28.

Johri said that the flavour of IPL is best when the world comes and play in India while adding it will be a step-by-step process and things can’t get back to normalcy in a single day. Johri stated players’ decision to participate in IPL 2020 or not would be respected by everyone.

“IPL is one of the greatest engagers. Whatever that is, wax or I don't know what."If that's what that science is telling us, that it's high risk using saliva ... As long as we're keeping other options open, whether that's sweat or something artificial." Cummins, currently world's no.1 Test bowler, said sweat is a viable option to keep the ball shinning. "We have to be able to shine the ball somehow so I'm glad they've let sweat remain," he said. "We've just got to make sure at the start of the spell we're sweating and we're nice and warm." Australian sports gear manufacturer Kookaburra had earlier this month claimed that it had developed a wax applicator which can keep the balls shinning without the usage of saliva or sweat. Cummins, however, hopes that they can return to the usage of saliva in future as it is the best option to shine the ball. "Hopefully we'll get to a stage where saliva is deemed safe. Hopefully, we can go back to that, to how it was," he said.
