Tunisia is not the only country facing a water crisis. Six million people in Spain's Barcelona & surrounding areas are facing a water crunch and already existing restrictions on water use could become tighter in the coming months. This according to officials in Spain's north-west, which remains parched and reservoirs in the region have run dry.

6 million Spaniards hit by water crunch due to drought in northern Spain

Northeastern Spain is currently experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades, with&nbsp;Barcelona&nbsp;facing a severe&nbsp;water crisis.&nbsp;The 7.7 million people who live in Catalonia, which is in the northeast of Spain, are dealing with&nbsp;the repercussions of a 32-month drought. Barcelona, where reservoirs are currently empty, is severely affected by the lack of rain.

Authorities issued a warning on Tuesday, stating that unless rain predictions improve, the area will experience a "drought emergency" in September. The usage of water would be subject to considerably stricter limitations.

"At this point, it's the worst problem we're facing," said Catalan leader Pere Aragones, lamenting one of "the worst droughts in 50 years", reported Euro news.&nbsp;

The Ter-Llobregat river system provides water to Barcelona, Girona, and other nearby towns and villages. According to the government of Spain, Catalonia's reservoirs and others have lost 27% of their original capacity.&nbsp;

The Guadalquivir river basin in southern Andalusia, whose reservoirs are only 26 per cent&nbsp;full, is the only area in Spain that is worse.

Due to current laws, each resident in Catalonia's cities is only permitted to use 230 litres of water each day. Both individual use and shared amenities like drinking fountains or street sweeping are included. That allocation would be reduced to 200 litres under "emergency" plans.&nbsp;

An average person uses about 116 litres of water each day for only domestic purposes. The regional administration is currently attempting to impose fines on municipalities for excessive water use.

Brazilian soccer star Dani Alves to arrive in court over alleged sexual assault claim

The Spanish government has apologised to victims of sexual assault as loopholes were discovered in the country’s new sexual consent law. It turned out that the law that was meant to toughen penalties for sexual crimes in the country ended up giving relaxations to some convicted offenders.

Under the new provisions, at least 104 offenders have been released from jail whereas at least 978 others have got their sentences reduced. In Spain, offenders can get their sentences modified retroactively if the penal code is changed.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez spoke to the El Correo newspaper on Sunday and said, “I ask victims for forgiveness for these undesired effects.” “I don’t think any MP, including those … who voted against the law, is OK with lowering the sentences of sexual aggressors,” Pedro Sánchez added.

<h2>What is Spain’s new sexual consent law?</h2>

The new law, popularly known as “only yes means yes” law, came into effect last October. The prime objective of this law was to define all instances of non-consensual sex as rape. The change made in the penal code was aimed at making sexual consent, or lack of it, a key factor in determining assault cases.

In making consent the key factor, the new law also made it clear that passivity and silence can no longer be taken as consent, which must be “freely manifested through actions that … clearly express the person’s wishes”.

<h2>How did the new law help some sexual offenders?</h2>

To understand this, we can look into the 2016 “wolf pack” gang rape case of Spain. Five men were accused of raping an 18-year-old woman in Pamplona. Later, it was found out that the victim reportedly did not object to the sexual assault. However, the Spanish Supreme Court did take the consent into consideration and sentenced each man to 15 years in prison under rape charges.

Now, the lawyers of the offenders are planning to seek a reduction in the sentences of their clients as consent has now become a key factor in determining sexual assault.

<h2>What’s the Spanish government doing about the loopholes?</h2>

The government has promised to close the loopholes, and the left-leaning government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has already submitted changes to the Parliament for examination. “We will put a solution on the table to resolve these problems,” Sánchez promised.

Spanish govt under fire for passing law that helped sexual offenders reduce sentences

Imagine spending days alone in a dark room with no access to the outside world, pushing the limits of your stamina. After 500 Days, a Spanish athlete broke the previous record for the longest period of time spent in a cave mountain when they emerged from a cave in southern Spain.

Spanish climber Beatriz Flamini leaves cave after 500 days in isolation

When she entered the cave, she was 48. The next two birthdays she celebrated inside a cave. With little contact with the outside world, a now 50-year-old Spanish extreme athlete completed a 500-day challenge in which she lived 230 feet deep in a cave outside of Granada city in Spain. Elite mountaineer Beatriz Flamini smiled as she acclimated to the springtime light in southern Spain. Speaking to the media present there, she said time had gone by fast and she did not want to come out.

"When they came in to get me, I was asleep. I thought something had happened. I said: 'Already? Surely not.' I hadn't finished my book," she said.

According to Flamini's support team, she broke the world record for the longest period of time spent in a cave during an experiment that was observed by scientists looking at the human brain and circadian rhythms.

Many historic events have gone by in the time the athlete spent inside the cave. Before the Ukraine War broke out, Spain's COVID mask law came to an end, and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Flamini set off on her adventure on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021.

Her team said that she did emerge for eight days, but she remained sequestered in a tent as they worked to fix the router that allowed her to communicate with them through voice and video.&nbsp;

About pressing her panic button, she said, "Never. In fact I didn't want to come out."

Flamini worked out, painted and knitted wool caps while she was underground. According to her support crew, she brought two GoPro cameras to record her journey and consumed 1,000 litres of water. She took 60 books with her when she entered.&nbsp;

"On day 65, I stopped counting and lost perception of time," she said.&nbsp;She said that her attention had been on maintaining "coherence," eating healthily, and savouring the stillness. She eagerly anticipated the delicacies like avocados, fresh eggs, and clean t-shirts that her support crew sent down before acting "like gods." They took care of her waste too.&nbsp;

"I didn't talk to myself out loud, but I had internal conversations and got on very well with myself," she joked.

"You have to remain conscious of your feelings. If you're afraid, that's something natural but never let panic in or you get paralysed."

"If it's no communication it's no communication regardless of the circumstances. The people who know me knew and respected that."

She said that under no circumstances, not even in the event of a family death, should her staff get in touch with her. A team of psychologists, scientists, cave experts, and physical trainers kept an eye on Flamini to gain knowledge on how social isolation may influence time, sleep, and brain processes.

Flamini has not yet decided on further climbing and caving initiatives. She said she would allow doctors to examine her body and mind.

Earlier, 33 Chilean and Bolivian miners who were buried for 69 days and 688 metres (2,257 feet) below in 2010 were given the title of "longest time survived trapped underground" by the Guinness Book of Records website. It is unclear if that record is broken or there is a new record Flamini has set by living in isolation inside the cave for 500 days.&nbsp;

Extreme experiment: A 50-year-old Spanish athlete emerges out of cave after 500 days

Spanish people in Menorca, about 204 km southeast of Barcelona, were consuming hallucinogenic drugs about three millennia ago, new research has found. This was around 2,900 years before the birth of Spanish-speaking drug lord Pablo Escobar in South American nation Colombia.

According to a report published in the journal Scientific Reports, signs of human activity at the Es Càrritx cave on the south-western side of Menorca showed that ancient human civilisation there consumed drugs derived from plants and bushes.&nbsp;

The Es Càrritx cave has more than 200 human graves, and is believed to be a funeral site for about six centuries until 800 BCE.

The research found that the substances had the potential to be quite strong. They were likely used as part of rituals held at the cave. These may have involved shamans "who were capable of controlling the side-effects of the plant drugs".

The scientific analysis of the hair locks, dyed red during the ancient rituals which could have come from more than one person, reportedly detected three psychoactive substances.

Along with hallucination-inducing atropine and scopolamine, scientists found ephedrine, which boosts energy and alertness.

The research also noted that containers found in the cave had spiral motifs carved on the lids. The way these motifs were created represent a person's "altered states of consciousness" while under the influence of hallucinogens.

In the history of ancient civilisations, evidence has been detected in the past, which indicates the human consumption of drugs and alcohol among others.&nbsp;

Ancient Egyptians used alcohol in 3500 BCE, while ancient Chinese people consumed cannabis (the source of marijuana) around 3000 BCE.&nbsp;

Ancient people in what is present-day Switzerland ate poppy seeds (the source of opium) in 2500 BCE.&nbsp;

Coca leaves (the source of cocaine), too, have been chewed for thousands of years by ancient Homo sapiens&nbsp;around the world.

Over 100 wildfires have been reported in northern Spain. Rising temperatures and unusually dry winter across parts of southern Europe due to climate change are the reason behind the wildfires being reported in Spain. But government officials say majority of wildfires were started by unknown arsonists; whom the region's leader are calling the 'fire terrorists'.

A Cathedral in northern Spain on Friday (March 24) held a mass to recognise and apologise to victims of sexual abuse perpetrated in the diocese. The service held in Bilbao Cathedral was one of the first services of its kind in Spain. Spain has been confronting cases of sexual abuse since El Pais newspaper reported in December 2021 more than 1,200 alleged cases of abuse by clergy spanning seven decades.

"The act was profound and silent. No need for words, the people who were there know why they were there," Lopez told Reuters.

"This was necessary for the church and for victims."

Another victim, Joseba Imanol Ibarra said that such a mass might not have been held in other parts of Spain.

"We were lucky this happened in this diocese. If this happened in Valladolid, in Madrid or in any other place they would not have listened to us," he told Reuters after the service.

Bishop of Bilbao Joseba Segura, recognised the abuses committed by priests and asked for forgiveness.&nbsp;

"We want to share with them and listen to them," he told the congregation.

Some of the victims placed candles on the altar during the service. A plaque on the cathedral wall read: "In memory of all the people who were victims of sex abuse in our Church."

Spain's parliament has tasked the country's ombudsman with investigating sexual abuse by members of the Spanish Catholic Church

The ombudsman, Angel Gabilondo, said in a statement on Sept. 13 that his office had already assisted 201 victims, mostly men, in the first two months of the probe, whose conclusions will be presented to parliament.

Huge fires blowing black smoke clouds in the sky - this is what forests in Eastern Spain look like now. This is the first major wildfire of the year that has gripped the eastern Valencia region. The fire has destroyed more than 3,000 hectares of forest and over 1,500 residents have to flee their homes.

Hundreds of people were evacuated as a wildfire which broke out on Thursday (March 23) continued to rage on the next day,&nbsp;in Spain’s eastern Castellón region on&nbsp;Friday (March 24). The incident also marked an early start to the country’s fire season amid dry conditions. According to reports, firefighters were alerted about a blaze near Villanueva de Viver in the region of Valencia just before 1:00 pm (local time) on Thursday.&nbsp;

Subsequently, at least 10 aeroplanes were dispatched to douse the blaze, while at least three villages had to be evacuated, said&nbsp;local media reports. According to emergency services, 600 people in eight towns have been evacuated and they have set up a refuge as well as a field hospital for them.&nbsp;

The president of the Valencia region, which includes Castellón, Ximo Puig, while addressing reporters said&nbsp;that at least 1,000 hectares of land have been engulfed by wildfire since it broke out on Thursday. He added, “Very early in the spring, very voracious from the beginning,” reported the Associated Press.&nbsp;

The president of the Valencian government also attributed this to climate change and said that its effects are “undeniable, so the perspective of firefighting must be considered on an annual basis.” As of early Friday, four helicopters and more than 600 firefighters and soldiers from the Spanish military had been deployed to control the fire. Furthermore, 15 planes, seaplanes and helicopters were also working to extinguish the flames, said the Valencia rescue service.&nbsp;

This comes after scientists in the European Union, earlier this month, said that winter 2022-23 in the northern hemisphere was the second warmest on record and unusually dry. In a tweet, the state weather agency, AEMET also attributed the rapid spread of fire to “unfavourable weather conditions, considering the early date of the year”.&nbsp;

The risk of more wildfires in the region was classified as “extreme” on Friday. According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), last year was the worst on record for Spain which witnessed 493 wildfires that destroyed 307,000 hectares of land.&nbsp;

Waters between Spain's Balearic Islands and the Italian coast are 5°celsius warmer than last year. According to Spain's weather agency, the Spanish coast would be 3°c to 4°c hotter until at least mid-August. Scientists have warned that high temperatures across Europe have unleashed a prolonged marine heatwave in the Mediterranean sea, which could ravage ecosystems and kill off several species in the coming weeks.

A Spanish court ordered a man to pay his ex-wife $218,000&nbsp;as compensation for her 25&nbsp;years of "unpaid domestic labour" while they were married. According to the New York Post, the substantial divorce settlement was determined using the yearly minimum salary over the course of the couple's marriage.

Ivana Moral, the wife, received the compensation, which judge Laura Ruiz Alaminos estimated in recognition of her 25 years of married service. In 2020, the couple divorced. The man must now pay the wife $527 in alimony each month, as well as $422 and $633 each for the couple's two kids, who are now 20 and 14, reported NYP.&nbsp;

The report quotes Moral as saying that she and their daughters were "left with nothing" when the couple split, sharing her struggles. "Clearly this was a case of abuse to be completely excluded financially (by her ex-husband) with nothing left after my marriage ended," Moral said, adding that despite investing all of her "time, energy, and love" in the family, she and their daughters were left with "nothing".

“I was supporting my husband in his work…did not have access to his financial affairs; everything was in his name,” she said.

She continued that she had been bound by a "separation of goods agreement" at the time of their marriage, allowing the husband to retain his wealth and divide their shared assets.

In the Velez-Malaga court hearing in southern Spain, it was revealed&nbsp;that the husband—who is unnamed in the lawsuit—reportedly has a lucrative gym company and a number of high-end assets worth $6.4 million.

Moral expressed her hope that this case will serve as an encouragement to other women and serve as an example of how "we may claim for housekeeping" in spite of such (division of commodities) agreements.

In October 2021, 45 bottles of wine, including a 217-year-old Château d'Yquem worth $373,000, went missing from the Atrio hotel and restaurant in Cáceres. The Spanish police called the wine heist a meticulously planned theft. They called for an international search to track down the person responsible for the theft. Cut to nine months when they arrested two people in Croatia. However, they have not discovered the stolen wine yet. Cops have arrested Priscila Lara Guevara and Constantín Dumitru, a former Mexican beauty pageant and a Romanian-Dutch man. Later, the woman made a reservation using a fake Swiss passport. On the day of her stay, she arrived with a single backpack and an unregistered guest. However, they did not go straight to the room. They chose to tour the restaurant's precious wine cellar. At 2 AM, the woman ordered a salad. Initially, the receptionist resisted. He found it odd as they served a 14-course meal to the woman for dinner. But he gave in. While he was away from the reception, the man stole a key card from the reception. However, according to the court, the key card failed to open the door. So, the man called the woman from the cellar door and asked her to distract the receptionist again. The woman called reception, this time asking for dessert. The employee agreed to bring her some fruit. The man stole the master key card from reception. He entered the wine cellar and stuffed 45 bottles in three bags. The couple checked out from the hotel at 5 AM. Wine Heist: Court in Spain sentences duo for wine theft worth $1.7 million. Here's what happened

Several families in Spain's Basque Country have taken legal action against a nurse after she was accused of faking the administration of vaccines to children. According to a report by the Guardian on Tuesday (February 28), the nurse, who has not been identified, had been tasked with immunising children for infections such as hepatitis B and meningitis at a local healthcare centre.&nbsp;

Last year, local authorities opened an investigation after parents expressed concerns about the nurse's attempts to discourage them from getting their children inoculated during visits to a health centre in Saturtzi. The parents also expressed concerns about the way the nurse appeared to inject the vaccines.&nbsp;

The Guardian report said the matter came to light this week when 42 families launched a legal challenge that accused the nurse of falsifying documents and misusing public funds.&nbsp;

Aitzol Asla, the lawyer representing these families, said, “All of these families have been vaccinated – or not – by this nurse." Asla added some families noticed the nurse was oddly administering vaccines- jabbing it very quickly and then appearing that as though she would throw the vial into the trash bin.&nbsp;

Following complaints from families in September last year, authorities conducted antibody tests on 50 children inoculated in the health centre, dividing them into two groups based on which nurse saw them.&nbsp;

"After the tests carried out in October on a first group of fifty minors belonging to two different quotas, it has been possible to verify that most of those belonging to one of the quotas analyzed did not have correct immunisation," a statement from the regional authority on November 2 said. The authority said those affected would be properly vaccinated, adding, testing would be expanded to a further 400 children who were believed to&nbsp;have been treated by the nurse.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Aitzol Asla said since months (after this incident occurred), health officials provided little details to the affected families. Asla added that parents were worried about what could have happened to their children. The lawyer also highlighted that nothing bad happened till now, The Guardian reported. The families behind the legal challenge are to appear in court in March, Asla said.&nbsp;

Spain: Legal action against nurse for faking administration of vaccines to kids, says report

On Sunday (February 26), Isle of Man recorded the lowest-ever T20 score. The&nbsp;Carl Haartman-led side bundled out for a mere 10 runs in 8.4 overs versus Spain&nbsp;at the La Manga Club Bottom Ground. None of their batters crossed the double-digit mark with Joseph Burrows (4) being the top run-getter. From Spain's perspective, Mohammad Kamran (4 for 4) and Atif Mehmood (4 for 6) starred with the ball.

Talking about the no-show from Isle of Man batting line-up, as many as six batters were dismissed for zero whereas there was no boundary hit throughout their forgettable inning. As a result, they have recorded the lowest score in the history of T20 cricket, going past Sydney Thunders who got dismissed for 15 versus Adelaide Strikers in the 2022/23 Big Bash League (BBL).&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Isle of Man also registered the lowest T20I score. They broke a four-year unwanted record set by Turkey, who got bundled&nbsp;out for a paltry 21 against&nbsp;Czech Republic&nbsp;in 2019. On Sunday (February 26), Isle of Man recorded the lowest-ever T20 score. The Carl Haartman-led side bundled out for a mere 10 runs in 8.4 overs versus Spain at the La Manga Club Bottom Ground. None of their batters crossed the double-digit mark with Joseph Burrows (4) being the top run-getter. From Spain's perspective, Mohammad Kamran (4 for 4) and Atif Mehmood (4 for 6) starred with the ball. Talking about the no-show from Isle of Man batting line-up, as many as six batters were dismissed for zero whereas there was no boundary hit throughout their forgettable inning. As a result, they have recorded the lowest score in the history of T20 cricket, going past Sydney Thunders who got dismissed for 15 versus Adelaide Strikers in the 2022/23 Big Bash League (BBL). Iran has released a Spanish woman named Ana Baneira who had been in detention since November, last year after she was arrested during the nationwide anti-government protests, said the Spanish foreign ministry, on Sunday (February 26). The 24-year-old was released on Saturday and is on her way to Spain. Meanwhile, another Spanish citizen, Santiago Sanchez Cogedor is also currently in Iranian custody after he decided to walk to the World Cup in Qatar but was detained last year in October.&nbsp;

“She was freed yesterday but we didn't want to announce it publicly before her plane had taken off from Iran”, said the Spanish foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares told reporters, on Sunday. He went on to assure that the 24-year-old “is well” and on her way home to Galicia, in northwestern Spain.

Iran releases Spanish woman detained three months ago during nationwide anti-hijab protests

A 34-year-old man has been isolated in Spain as health authorities suspect that he contracted Ebola-like Marburg virus during his stay in Equatorial Guinea, a small African nation. While tests are carried out in Madrid, the patient has been transferred from a private hospital to an isolation unit at the Hospital La Fe in the Valencia region of Spain, news agency Reuters reported.

Equatorial Guinea has so far registered nine deaths and 16 suspected cases of the disease after an outbreak earlier this month forced isolation of 200 people.&nbsp; Two suspected cases were detected in Cameroon also. &nbsp;

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Marburg virus disease is "a highly virulent disease that causes hemorrhagic fever, with a fatality ratio of up to 88 per cent". There are no vaccines or approved antiviral treatments linked to the deadly virus yet.

Marburg virus, the WHO has said, is in the same family of the virus that causes Ebola virus disease. The disease was initially detected in 1967 when two large outbreaks were reported simultaneously in Marburg and Frankfurt in Germany, and in Belgrade, Serbia. "The outbreak was associated with laboratory work using African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) imported from Uganda," the world health body underlined. Since then, infections have been reported from Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda.

The reservoir host of Marburg virus is the African fruit bat, Rousettus aegyptiacus, as per the US drug regulator Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. The cave-dwelling bat is found widely across Africa. "Fruit bats infected with Marburg virus do not show obvious signs of illness. Primates&nbsp;(including people) can become infected with Marburg virus, and may develop serious disease with high mortality," the CDC has explained on its official website.

Spain detects first suspected case of Ebola-like Marburg virus: Report

The head of Spain's state rail operator Renfe resigned on Monday (February 20), after a backlash over the acquisition of commuter trains that were too large to go through some tunnels.&nbsp;Spain is due to hold elections at the end of the year, thus the dimension blunder&nbsp;has sparked outrage there ever since it was first reported in the media in early February.

Spain spends $275 mn on trains that won't fit through tunnels, rail head resigns after design blunder

The Supreme Court of Spain ruled against the demand of a few naturist property owners at a holiday home development who insisted that only naked residents can use the communal areas. The court said that security guards must not be hired to ensure that nudity laws are being followed in the shared swimming pool.

The court gave its verdict after eight people n the development in Almeria's Andalucían province took legal action, claiming that the nudity policy enforced was violating their basic rights.

After the regional courts dismissed their case, the locals decided to file a case in the Supreme Court which eventually delivered a verdict in their favour.

Even though few people belonging to the development claimed that they were born with “a strong naturist-nudist vocation” and that in communal areas like gardens and pools, nudity was “indispensable”, the judges disagreed.

“A climate was created that was unbearable for the complainants and many other neighbours, who were hounded, coerced and discriminated against solely because they did not practise nudism. Their holiday homes had gone from being a place of rest to a place of suffering,” said the judges.

The Supreme Court said that the lower courts were incorrect in rejecting the pleas filed earlier.

“This court has found a patent error in the evidence used to support that conclusion, given that a simple reading of the minutes of the community meeting clearly proves that the said statutes were not approved and that that question was not addressed in earlier proceedings,” the judges said.

The judges added that the facts of the case were far beyond what they called “a mere dialectical debate” and was involving the imposition of rules which gravely violated fundamental rights.

“While there had been previous attempts to impose naturism, during Holy Week 2017 the respondents hired a security company that deployed several guards at the entrance to the pool and instructed them to refuse entry to anyone who was not naked and to expel anyone by the pool who was wearing a swimming costume,” the court said.

“As a consequence, we are granting the appeal because there was no reason to arbitrarily – through acts of force, such as hiring private security guards – stop the complainants enjoying the rights to which they are entitled in communal areas if they did not practise nudism, which, while being a perfectly legitimate and respectable personal choice, cannot be enforced without reason,” the judges added.&nbsp;

Spanish court rules against holiday home naturists' insistence on nudity in communal areas

The Spanish government became the first in all of Europe to enact legislation allowing women with severe menstrual discomfort paid medical leave. Employees who suffer from severe menstrual discomfort are entitled to take as much time off as they require under this law.

Spain grants paid medical leave to women with severe period pain

In Pics: Spain's abandoned train station turns into a luxurious hotel

In a historic development, lawmakers in Spain on Thursday (February 16) gave final nod to a law that will grant paid medical leaves to&nbsp;women who are suffering from severe period pain. With this, Spain has become first European country to approve such a legislation.&nbsp;"It is a historic day for feminist progress," Equality Minister Irene Montero tweeted before the vote.

The legislation allows workers experiencing period pain to take as much time off as they need. State social security system and not employers will pick up the tab for the sick leave. A doctor must approve the temporary medical incapacity of the worker in order to take the menstrual leave.

The length of sick leave that doctors will be able to grant to women suffering from painful periods has not been specified in the law.&nbsp;

About a third of women who menstruate suffer from severe pain, according to the Spanish Gynaecology and Obstetrics Society.&nbsp;

The measure has found supporting and opposing voices. UGT, one of Spain's largest trade unions, warned that such a menstrual leave could stigmatise women in the workplace and make companies favour recruitment of men.&nbsp;

The main opposition conservative Popular Party (PP) also warned the law risks "stigmatising" women and could have "negative consequences in the labour market" for them.&nbsp;

"Menstrual leave" is one of the key measures in the broader legislation, which also provides for increased access to abortion in public hospitals. &nbsp;

Less than 15 per cent of abortions performed in the country take place in such institutions, mainly because of conscientious objections by doctors.&nbsp;

The new law also allows minors to have abortions without parental permission at 16 and 17 years of age, reversing a requirement introduced by a previous conservative government in 2015. The legislation also allows anyone to change their registered gender legally above the age of 16.

Spain, a European leader in women's rights, had decriminalised abortion in 1985, and in 2010, it passed a law that allows women to opt freely for abortion during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy in most cases.&nbsp;
