<p>Mysteries abound and wonders never cease in the vast expanse of space. NASA has once again captivated the world with a mesmerising glimpse into the cosmos. This time, it wasn't just any celestial marvel but a striking portrait of planetary companionship - Pluto and its planetary bestie and moon, Charon.</p>

<p>Shared by NASA on its social media handle, the image was captured by the New Horizons spacecraft just before its closest encounter with Pluto on July 14, 2015. NASA also accompanied the post with a caption and shared that the besties are "sometimes referred to as a double dwarf planet system."</p>

<p>"Charon is the largest of Pluto's five moons – Charon is 754 miles (1,214 km) across, and Pluto is about 1,400 miles wide. The distance between them is 12,200 miles (19,640 km)," NASA said in the caption of the post.</p>

<p>Describing the image itself, NASA detailed the features of Charon, depicting its predominantly grey surface with a reddish north polar region, countless impact craters, and a distinctive ridge dividing its terrain.</p>

Charon, Pluto’s planetary bestie goes viral as NASA shares stunning snapshot

<p>A highly anticipated lift-off of a Russian Soyuz spacecraft was successful as it launched&nbsp;three astronauts — one male and two females — to the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday (Mar 22). This comes after the lift-off was dramatically halted just seconds before its scheduled departure on Thursday (Mar 21).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The spacecraft carried NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson, Marina Vasilevskaya of Belarus, and Russian Oleg Novitsky. The launch took place from the Baikonur launch facility in Kazakhstan.</p>

<p>Following eight minutes, the space capsule detached from the rocket and entered its orbit. This initiated a two-day, 34-orbit journey towards the ISS. The docking procedure with the ISS is now scheduled to take place at 1510 GMT on Monday (Mar 25).</p>

<p>Earlier, on March 21, the mission control amidst the anticipation, announced "Launch!" in Russian. However, soon after, an unexpected message of "automatic cancellation of the launch" echoed through the live stream. The crew, comprising a Russian, an American, and a Belarusian were safely evacuated.</p>

<p>The sudden termination was attributed to a rare occurrence - a fluctuation in the current of a chemical power source, as disclosed by Roscosmos, the Russian space agency.</p>

<p>Space chief Yuri Borisov, had stated, "Colleagues, space is like this and the situation is quite understandable." Now, the mission is scheduled for a launch attempt on Saturday (Mar 23).</p>

<p>So, how has our space transformed from a dark regime to a glowing set of millions of galaxies? Researchers used the Webb telescope to find the answer.</p>

<p>To study the phenomenon, researchers pointed the telescope towards a region of the cosmos called Pandora's Cluster. It is described as a group of galaxies so massive that they warp space, like a bowling ball sitting on a mattress. This creates a curved cosmic lens, magnifying the objects beyond. According to the American space agency NASA, "Light follows that bend instead of travelling in a straight line, distorting and brightening what’s behind the object."</p>

<p>Using that natural cosmic lens and the power of the telescope, scientists were able to spot some of the faintest, and oldest, galaxies in space.</p>

<p>The scientists observed small galaxies in a form which would have taken shape billions of years ago, due to the time light takes to reach us.</p>

<p>The small galaxies were generating huge amounts of ultraviolet light — enough to break down the dense clouds of gas that had saturated space.</p>

Similarly, if you can change gravity, you can also change the chemical process for drug formulations."</p>

<p>W-1 was integrated with a Rocket Lab Photon spacecraft (the upper stage of the Electron rocket) for eight months, which provided the capsule with power, propulsion, and navigation.</p>

Watch: Spacecraft captures its own re-entry into Earth from space

<p>India's space sector is taking off.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated India's second spaceport in Tamil Nadu's Kulasekharapatnam.</p>

<p>Reports suggest the new spaceport will eliminate the need to avoid Sri Lanka's airspace. Moreover, the location is closer to the equator and the propulsion complex in Kerala, which will reduce time and cost.</p>

<p>This comes a day after India announced the names of four astronauts who will fly on 'Gaganyaan' - India's first human-crewed space mission.</p>

<p>Both these developments come a week after the government allowed 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the space sector.</p>

<p>Under the amended FDI policy, the government has liberalised entry routes for foreign investment in "satellites, &nbsp;Launch Vehicles and associated systems or subsystems, spaceports and manufacturing of space-related components and systems".</p>

<p>These investment reforms are, in turn, part of the government's Indian Space Policy - 2023, which aims to harness and develop the existing space economy. &nbsp;</p>

<p>India aims to have a $44 billion space economy by 2033. And by 2040, the space economy is expected to grow beyond $80 billion. But this figure currently stands at just $8.4 billion and represents less than 3 per cent of the global space sector.</p>

<p>While the government is and will hold the key to India's space economy, the rising role of the private sector must be addressed.</p>

<p>This is visible in the exponential rise of space sector startups. From just one in 2014, the number of startups has risen to 189.</p>

<p>One of these startups, Skyroot Aerospace, launched its first privately-developed rocket - the Vikram-S - from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in November 2022.</p>

<p>In 2020, the government established IN-SPAce, a focal point for private entities to seek clearance for investing in India's space sector.</p>

<p>IN-SPAce has been instrumental in channelling private investments into the sector. From just $63 million in 2020, total private investments have crossed over $120 million by 2023.</p>

<p>"In the last three years, the space sector is no more restricted to the ISRO. It also has a military and commercial element. It is becoming India's outreach to the world," says&nbsp;Prof. Chaitanya Giri, Associate Professor at Flame University in Pune.</p>

<p>Unsurprisingly, foreign investors are excited about the sector. Prof. Giri says that reflects the belief that India can deliver cost-effectively.</p>

<p>The expansion of the space sector can be seen in the number of space launches that ISRO has conducted in the last ten years.</p>

These investment reforms are, in turn, part of the government's Indian Space Policy - 2023, which aims to harness and develop the existing space economy. India aims to have a $44 billion space economy by 2033. And by 2040, the space economy is expected to grow beyond $80 billion. But this figure currently stands at just $8.4 billion and represents less than 3 per cent of the global space sector. While the government is and will hold the key to India's space economy, the rising role of the private sector must be addressed. This is visible in the exponential rise of space sector startups. From just one in 2014, the number of startups has risen to 189. One of these startups, Skyroot Aerospace, launched its first privately-developed rocket - the Vikram-S - from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in November 2022. In 2020, the government established IN-SPAce, a focal point for private entities to seek clearance for investing in India's space sector. IN-SPAce has been instrumental in channelling private investments into the sector. From just $63 million in 2020, total private investments have crossed over $120 million by 2023. "In the last three years, the space sector is no more restricted to the ISRO. It also has a military and commercial element. It is becoming India's outreach to the world," says Prof. Chaitanya Giri, Associate Professor at Flame University in Pune. Unsurprisingly, foreign investors are excited about the sector. Prof. Giri says that reflects the belief that India can deliver cost-effectively. The expansion of the space sector can be seen in the number of space launches that ISRO has conducted in the last ten years. <p>On Friday, Intuitive Machines said that two of the spacecraft's communication antennae were pointed the wrong way and thus were knocked out of commission. Likewise, Odysseus' solar panels were facing the wrong direction, thereby limiting the vehicle's ability to recharge its batteries.</p>

Hubble Space Telescope spots a massive star-forming region in the Milky Way

<p lang="en-US">Two powerful solar flares from the sun on in the past two days occurred at the same time when widespread cell phone outages took place across the United States, raising questions if the two events were connected.<br />

An X1.8-class flare erupted at 6:07 p.m. ET (2307 GMT) on Wednesday (Feb 21), and another X1.7-class flare was released from the sun at 1:32 a.m. ET (0632 GMT) on Thursday (Feb 22).<br />

In a statement, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that the solar flares erupted from a particular region of the sun that "continues to exhibit strong magnetic complexity”.<br />
<br />
"No apparent CMEs [Coronal&nbsp;mass ejections] resulting from these events have been observed as of the time of this writing, but can not be ruled out," the agency said.<br />
<br />
However, an alert was issued by NOAA for a solar radio emission which occurred at 6:58 a.m. ET (1158 GMT) and sometimes such eruptions are joined by solar radiation storms and strong coronal mass ejections.</p>

"While solar flares can affect communication systems, radar, and the Global Positioning System, based on the intensity of the eruption and associated phenomena, it is highly unlikely that these flares contributed to the widely reported cellular network outages," they claimed.</p>

An X1.8-class flare erupted at 6:07 p.m. ET (2307 GMT) on Wednesday (Feb 21), and another X1.7-class flare was released from the sun at 1:32 a.m. ET (0632 GMT) on Thursday (Feb 22). In a statement, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that the solar flares erupted from a particular region of the sun that "continues to exhibit strong magnetic complexity”. "No apparent CMEs [Coronal mass ejections] resulting from these events have been observed as of the time of this writing, but can not be ruled out," the agency said. However, an alert was issued by NOAA for a solar radio emission which occurred at 6:58 a.m. ET (1158 GMT) and sometimes such eruptions are joined by solar radiation storms and strong coronal mass ejections. As reported by The Associated Press, tens of thousands of outages took place across the country, which affected phones operated AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. NOAA says no relation between recent flares and outages NOAA's Space Weather Prediction further confirmed that the recent flares and outages are unrelated. "While solar flares can affect communication systems, radar, and the Global Positioning System, based on the intensity of the eruption and associated phenomena, it is highly unlikely that these flares contributed to the widely reported cellular network outages," they claimed. NOAA, in its forecast discussion posted at 7:30 a.m. ET (1230 GMT) on Feb 22, wrote that an "eruptive filament" had exploded from the northwest quadrant of the visible disk of the sun on February 21.
