Hamza said, “When we were sitting in the lobby and got to know that you were targeted. I believe this is not an attack on you but on this assembly’s respect. Time goes but characters are membered.”

He praised Mazari for the braveness with which he fulfilled his duty and paid him a tribute.

“Nation was worried for 15 days and today despite all this Democracy won. This is not my victory it is a victory of each and every member sitting here,” Hamza said.

“I want to ask Imran Khan why did you promise 10 million jobs, five million houses when currently hundreds of thousands of youngsters are unemployed at the moment,” he added.

In Punjab's National Assembly, a candidate needs 186 votes to become the chief minister. Hamza has been its member since 6 September 2018.

Hamza's father Shehbaz Sharif has served as the chief minister of Pakistan's Punjab thrice.

Previously, Qasim Khan Suri, who is a member of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, resigned as deputy speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly.

"We will never compromise on Pakistan's sovereignty and integrity. We will fight for the country's interests and independence. We will go to any length to protect Pakistan," he tweeted.

The acceptance of the resignation of PTI members is still pending. Pakistan faces the prospect of nearly 100-by elections within two months if they are accepted.

This can be a potential platform for Khan to mobilise support. But it will be a major distraction for Sharif and his coalition partners.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday accused his predecessor Imran Khan of selling gifts received by Pakistan from foreign nations for over US $773,000 (approx.).

He alleged that Khan took gifts from the Toshakhana and sold them in Dubai.

“I can confirm that Imran Khan took gifts from Toshakhana and sold them in Dubai for Rs140 million,” the PM said during a meeting with senior journalists at PM House, The News International reported.

“Valuable gifts include diamond jewellery, bracelets, watches and sets,” he added.

The gifts given by the dignitaries of a foreign state are put in the state depository, called Toshakhana—a government-owned entity formed in 1974 under the control of Cabinet Division of Pakistan.

According to Pakistani laws, the public gifts can either be deposited to the repository, or it can be kept by state officials by paying half of the price.

But, if they neither submit the gift nor deposit half of the price, then the act becomes illegal.

The accusations were made a day after Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency initiated a probe against Khan for allegedly gifting a necklace to his personal assistant Zulfikar Bukhari who, in turn, had sold it to a jeweller in Lahore for Rs 180 million (over US $994,000 approx.)

That expensive necklace was supposed to be deposited in Toshakhana, Pakistan's The Express Tribune reported.

Fawad claimed that Khan bought a watch — that he received from a foreign country — from the government of Pakistan and sold it.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday asserted that repairing relations with its allies and neighbours, including India, would be the priority of his government.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Sharif blamed his predecessor Imran Khan for Pakistan’s “deteriorating” relations with neighbouring countries.

“My priority will be to mend ties with all allies and neighbours of Pakistan. The previous government made things worse,” Sharif said while responding to WION.

“I will work with all neighbours for the betterment of the environment, including India,” he added, before adding a rider that the peaceful relations between India and Pakistan is subjected to the Kashmir issue.

“I have already asked (Indian PM) Modi to resolve the Kashmir issue and move towards lasting peace,” he said.

Acknowledging that he has only one-half-years of his term, the prime minister assured that his administration will focus on bringing down inflation and put Pakistan on the path of development.

“The biggest challenge is to overcome the devastating economy and inflation. The term of the parliament is one and a half years, how long we have to stay, the allies will decide together,” Sharif said.

“As a Prime Minister, I am making short- and medium-term plans to reduce inflation. Nations can’t progress merely by words. The only way to move forward is to work more and more,” he added.

Immediately after assuming office, the prime minister abolished two weekly offs, and ordered to open all the government offices for six days a week.

Asked when will the cabinet be formed, Sharif said, “This is a coalition government, everyone has to be involved.”

He added that his brother and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will finalise the portfolios of PML-N party ministers.

Reacting to reports of President Arif Alvi taking sick leave hours before his swearing ceremony, Sharif said, “If the President is not well then, may Allah give him health.”

Meanwhile, Sharif is expected to make his first official visit to Saudi Arabia and China in a bid to boost Pakistan’s relations with both countries.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman had questioned Imran Khan&nbsp;government's legitimacy after the Speaker had earlier&nbsp;dismissed the no-confidence motion.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman Rehman has been a long time rival of former prime minister Imran Khan and has attacked the former cricketer a number of times. In fact, both leaders have often hit out against each other. Rehman's Jamiatul Ulema-e-Islam (F) is likely to play a key role in the new government as he has been able to forge alliances across the political spectrum. Maulana Fazlur Rehman had questioned Imran Khan government's legitimacy after the Speaker had earlier dismissed the no-confidence motion.
