Weeks after taking oath as the Prime Minister, Lahore special court has Shehbaz Sharif in the $75 million money laundering case on the 14th of May. The court has clearly said that no further adjournments will be made and all accused in the case need to be present in court.

<p>"The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) special court Lahore on Wednesday accepted Shehbaz's application seeking exemption from personal appearance for one day. However, the court directed the premier to file a reply in the case otherwise it will initiate indictment proceedings on the next hearing on May 14," a court official told PTI.</p>

<p>However, Hamza Sharif appeared before the court.</p>

<p>The official said the court also directed Shehbaz's counsel Advocate Amjad Pervez to present arguments before the court on May 14 on his contention that his client can't be indicted in this case.</p>

<p>Shehbaz is also the President of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party. Shehbaz and his sons -&nbsp;Hamza and Suleman - were booked by FIA in November 2020 under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Anti Money Laundering Act. Suleman is absconding and residing in the UK.</p>

<p>The FIA investigation has detected 28 benami accounts, allegedly of the Shehbaz family, through which an amount of 14 billion Pakistani Rupees (USD 75 million) was laundered from 2008 to 2018.</p>

<p>The FIA examined the money trail of 17,000 credit transactions. The amount was kept in 'hidden accounts'&nbsp;and given to Shehbaz in his personal capacity, according to the charges.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed Punjab Governor Omer Sarfaraz Cheema to ensure the completion of the process of administering oath to Chief Minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz by April 28, either doing so himself or through a nominee.</p>

<p>Hamza was elected chief minister on April 16. Hamza and his party blamed ousted prime minister Imran Khan for the delay in oath-taking.</p>

<p>Newly-elected Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has kicked off a controversy over his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia. Opposition parties in Pakistan are targetting Shehbaz for a large entourage he is likely to have with him as he visits Saudi Arabia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pakistani news outlet Dawn reported that 40 people, including 16 of Sharif's relatives are part of the entourage. &nbsp;Dozens of officials and political leaders will accompany the PM.</p>

<p>Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the party led by former prime minister Imran Khan has raised questions on this.</p>

<p>On Monday Pakistan's Minister for Information &nbsp;Marriyum Aurangzeb said Shehbaz Sharif was travelling to Saudi Arabia at his own expense. She slammed PTI leaders for spreading "lies" about the trip set to take place later this week.</p>

<p>In a letter congratulating Pakistan's New Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Indian PM Narendra Modi has asked him to build "normal neighbourly relations" between the two countries which will be for "the benefit of the region".&nbsp;</p>

<p>The letter was sent last week after PM Sharif took charge as the new Pakistani prime minister after Imran Khan lost a vote of confidence in the National Assembly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The letter sent on April 12 called for "constructive engagement" reminding the Pakistani side that "India remains committed to advancing peace, security and prosperity in the region".&nbsp;</p>

<p>By protocol and tradition, Indian PMs have written/spoken to the incoming leader of Pakistan. In 2013, the then Indian PM Manmohan Singh had written to then-PM Nawaz Sharif and in 2019, PM Modi had spoken to then-PM Imran Khan after his victory in the elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since taking charge, both sides have seen exchanges on Twitter as well. On April 11 PM Modi had tweeted a congratulatory message to Sharif, who had reciprocated with a message stating that Pakistan desires peaceful and cooperative ties with India, on April 12.&nbsp;</p>

<p>No formal talks have happened between India and Pakistan for years now. After India removed special status for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan had suspended train and road linkages and recalled its envoy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Currently, Indian and Pakistani missions in their respective countries work at half the strength and at the deputy envoy level. Pakistan also suspended trade ties, barring Pharma products.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When Sharif took an oath, he mentioned the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir saying Pakistan will provide ''diplomatic and moral support'' to the people in the valley.</p>

<p>“We want good ties with India but durable peace is not possible until the Kashmir dispute is resolved,” he added.</p>

<p>Sharif had also attacked former Prime Minister Imran Khan for not making ''serious and diplomatic efforts'' in the case of Kashmir.</p>

<p>Shehbaz, who is the brother of former Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif, has served as the chief minister of Punjab thrice.</p>

<p>Nawaz Sharif had a good equation with PM Modi. In 2015, Modi attended a function at his house in Pakistan during his flight to Afghanistan. It was the first visit by an Indian leader to Pakistan in more than a decade.</p>

<p>The previous Indian leader to do so was former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee who visited Lahore in 1999 and met Nawaz Sharif.</p>

<p>Both nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan have fought several wars since their independence.</p>

<p>Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath after President Arif Alvi excused himself over a reported illness.</p>

<p>A notification issued by Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s office revealed the names of the federal cabinet ministers who would be taking the charge. Among them include Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khawaja Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Rana Tanvir and Sherry Rehman.</p>

<p>Moreover, as per the notification, Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Hina Rabbani Khar, Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar have been named as the minister of state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the cabinet division, Sharif’s PML-N party, which leads the National Assembly with a majority among the ruling alliance, will have 12 federal ministers, two ministers of state, and two advisers.</p>

<p>The PPP will have nine federal ministers, two ministers of state, and one adviser to the PM.</p>

<p>Four ministers will be from JUIF, two from MQM-Pakistan, and one each from JWP, BAP, and PML-Q.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, President Alvi is expected to go on leave on Tuesday over reported illness, Dawn newspaper reported citing sources.</p>

<p>Previously, Alvi couldn’t administer the&nbsp;oath to PM Sharif&nbsp;on health grounds after which Sanjrani had taken over the responsibility.</p>

<p>According to Alvi's official Twitter account, the Pakistan president has been examined by a doctor.</p>

<p>The fuel and power subsidies were introduced by former Prime Minister Imran Khan in order to win public support.</p>

<p>He implemented the cut in electricity and petrol tariffs in February when inflation was at an all-time high.</p>

<p>Miftah Ismail, the top economic adviser to Sharif, has said that Imran Khan's relief measure will make the fiscal deficit reach 10 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).</p>
