Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz will be returning to Pakistan on June 8, the Dawn newspaper reported, quoting a member of his personal staff.

Earlier, lawyers had informed an Accountability Court that Shehbaz will return to Pakistan on June 11.

Shehbaz had announced a "quick visit" to London on April 9 after his name was removed from the no-fly list on Lahore High Court orders.&nbsp;

Party sources said at the time that he intended to return within 10-12 days, the report said.

He faces court cases for corruption and dishonesty.

In the Ashiyana housing scam, Shehbaz is accused of ordering the cancellation of a contract given to a successful bidder for the low-cost housing scheme, resulting in a loss of Rs 193 million to the national exchequer.

In the Ramzan Sugar Mills corruption case, Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz are accused of "fraudulently and dishonestly" causing a Rs 213 million loss to the national exchequer.

Shehbaz was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau in October 2018 and released on bail on February 14.

His brother Sharif has been serving a seven-year prison term at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore since December 24, 2018, when an accountability court convicted him in one of the three corruption cases filed in the wake of the apex court's July 28, 2017 order in Panama Papers case.

Both Sharif and his daughter Maryam have been sentenced to seven years in prison, respectively. Maryam's husband Muhammad Safdar was jailed for one year in the same case.

Sharif and his family have denied any wrongdoing and allege that the corruption cases against them are politically motivated.

A court Monday restrained Pakistan's top anti-graft body from arresting Hamza Shehbaz, the Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly and the son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Shehbaz Sharif.

A two-judge bench of the Lahore High Court, headed by Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan, restrained the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting Hamza until further notice, Geo TV reported.

The court also ordered Hamza to pay surety bonds worth Rs 10 million and issued a notice to NAB seeking its reply in the matter.

A NAB team had carried out two successive raids on Friday and Saturday at Shehbaz's Model Town residence to arrest Hamza.&nbsp;

During Monday's hearing, Hamza's lawyer told the court, "In an earlier order, the high court had directed that Hamza is informed 10 days prior to his arrest. The LHC had granted bail to my client in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case."

The PML-N leader's counsel further said Hamza is the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly and the 10-day order had been issued to the relevant forum can be approached for bail.&nbsp;

Hamza is seeking pre-arrest bail so he can appear before NAB, the council added.

Justice Shehzad then asked the NAB prosecutor regarding the cases in which they are seeking to arrest Hamza. At this, the PML-N leader's counsel said his arrest warrants have been issued in a case pertaining to assets beyond known sources of income.

"Three cases against Hamza are being probed in NAB Lahore," the NAB prosecutor said.

Hamza's lawyer then said, "NAB should share evidence against us and we will respond. Hamza had also approached LHC before this on November 1 and is innocent."

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till April 17.

Pakistan court restrains anti-graft body from arresting Hamza Shehbaz

Pakistan's anti-graft body Friday conducted a raid at the residence of opposition leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to arrest his son in a corruption case, a media report said.

A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team conducted the raid on a house, believed to be that of Shehbaz Sharif's residence, allegedly because his son 44-year-old Hamza was "not cooperating" in the assets beyond means case.

The team had gone to arrest Hamza on the basis of evidence against him in the assets beyond means and alleged money laundering case, the report said.

"NAB officials had gone to the residence with an arrest warrant and the Supreme Court had stated that the accountability bureau did not require to inform any accused prior to arresting them," the NAB said in a statement.

In addition to the assets beyond means case, Hamza is facing an inquiry into the Ramzan Sugar Mills case, the Dawn newspaper reported.

According to the NAB, Hamza and his younger brother Salman Shehbaz being directors of the sugar mills got constructed a bridge linking to their mills out of public money in Chiniot district in the Punjab province.

It said an amount of Rs 200 million was approved by their father Shehbaz Sharif who was then the chief minister for the construction of the bridge.

Hamza, while addressing a press conference after the raid, said he had felt like a terrorist because of the way NAB had raided the residence, the report said.

"The sanctity of the home was violated...For the first time, I felt like we are terrorists, the way the raid was conducted," he said.

Hamza, whose name had been placed on the Exit Control List, was permitted by a court to travel abroad in February as his newborn daughter was to undergo a cardiac procedure due to complications at birth.

"Hamza Shahbaz is a Pakistani. Whenever I was given a notice, I would appear before the NAB. I will not tell you the way they spoke to me," he said.

Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto said it was "highly condemnable" if Sharif's home has been raided by the NAB without a warrant.

"PPP doesn't oppose accountability but we oppose political vendettas in the name of accountability. Yet another authoritarian and undemocratic move by the government," he said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday extended his greeting to the country's Hindu community on the occasion of Holi.

Pakistan's deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday refused to be relocated to a hospital for treatment despite requests by his family members, saying he prefers an "honourable death" over kneeling to "politics being done" by the government in the name of his treatment.&nbsp;

Sharif, 69, is serving seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case at the Kot Lakhpat Jail since December 2018.

"I will not accept the PTI government's disdainful behaviour of pushing me around in the name of medical treatment from one irrelevant hospital to another. I prefer honourable death over kneeling to the Imran Khan government's derogatory exploits," Sharif told his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat jail here.&nbsp;

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo has suffered four angina attacks last week, his daughter Maryam Nawaz said on Tuesday.

The Sharif family is complaining that the government is not providing health facilities to the former premier who has serious health complications. Sharif said the government is doing political victimization "in the name of medical treatment".&nbsp;

"The government has not provided any facility for appropriate treatment and is bent on just irritating and bothering to serve its prejudicial designs," he said.&nbsp;

Maryam said Sharif had "refused to go to any hospital despite suffering from a serious medical condition".

Earlier in a tweet, she said she took her grandmother along with her to convince her father to let the government shift him to a hospital. However, he "declined the request" and told his mother to "go home, pray to God, and leave the rest to the will of the almighty".

Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government has decided to send four new cases to Pakistan's top anti-graft agency to investigate into the misuse of authority by the Sharif family in the previous government, according to a media report.

Khan's Adviser Shehzad Akbar and Special Assistant Iftikhar Durrani detailed the alleged misuse of government resources by former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Shehbaz Sharif and ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz at a press conference here, the Express Tribune newspaper reported.

The officials said that the Assets Recovery Unit was referring a case of the new London property belonging to the Sharif family to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for investigation, adding that the government had requested Britain for the ownership documents of the property.

Durrani said that the cases related to the misuse of funds in erecting a security fence around the Sharif family's Raiwind Palace, plunder of funds allocated for entertainment and gifts, unauthorised use of the prime minister's aircraft by Shehbaz and Maryam.

In the first case, he said that Rs 60 crore was spent to secure the "Raiwind Mahal", which was tantamount to misusing the authority and funds. 
Another case involves Maryam's use of the prime minister's official plane. Her trips cost the national exchequer Rs 3 crore. Another case refers to former Shehbaz's use of the plane.

Akbar said the record of the Prime Minister House and Punjab Chief Minister House would be handed over to NAB. He accused the previous rulers of using the taxpayers' money lavishly and said that the CM House's budget was enhanced manifold during 2013-18 period with mala fide intentions.

He said that the Assets Recovery Unit was in process of referring another case to NAB about Sharif's family's new property traced in London.

Akbar said it was a fit case of assets beyond known sources of income as the former prime minister had not disclosed the new property in London in any declaration submitted with the Election Commission or wealth statements.

He said it was the domain of NAB to carry out investigation into having assets beyond known sources of income while the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) would look into tax-related matters. He said they had requested Britain for fresh ownership documents of the property.

Durrani said the information shared by China about the Multan Metro Bus Project would be shared with the media soon.

"Corrupt practices of former rulers are surfacing one after the other though they were denying to possess any land at home or abroad. Even they had distanced themselves from the contents of Qatari letters," he said.

Sharif, 68, was disqualified by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case in July, 2017.

In July, 2018 Sharif, his daughter Maryam and his son-in-law retired captain Mohammad Safdar were sentenced to 11 years, eight years and one year respectively in prison in the Avenfield properties case related to their purchase of four luxury flats in London through corrupt practices.

His sentence was, however, suspended. The three-time former prime minister and his family have denied any wrongdoing.&nbsp;

Shehbaz was produced before an accountability court in Lahore for a hearing in the Ashiana scam and the NAB requested extension to his remand for another 15 days. It informed the court that it had also arrested Shehbaz in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

His counsel Ahmad Pervaiz opposed further extension in the physical remand saying his client had been in NAB custody for more than a month and could not prove anything against him.

NAB prosecutor Waris Ali Janjua said the body could not interrogate Shahbaz properly as he attended the National Assembly session during the remand period.

After hearing the arguments, the court extended the 14-day remand of Shahbaz in NAB custody till November 24.

Several PML-N workers gathered outside the court and chanted slogans against the Imran Khan government and NAB.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz's son Salman Shahbaz on Friday skipped the third consecutive hearing in NAB Lahore as he left for London.

It said an amount of Rs 200 million was approved by then Punjab chief minister Shahbaz for the construction of the bridge.

NAB Lahore Director General Shahzad Saleem said Salman had fled to London after the bureau sought details of his family properties and said he is deliberately avoiding the NAB hearing. The Sharif family denies this saying he will soon return to face the NAB probe.

A meeting, attended by high-profile leaders from both parties, was held on Wednesday at the Parliament House in Islamabad, The Express Tribune reported.

Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Sanaullah, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry were some of the PML-N leaders in attendance, while Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Khursheed Shah and Qamar Zaman Kaira accounted for the PPP delegation.

Addressing the media following the meet, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said that the "fruitful" decision was agreed upon by senior leaders of both the former ruling parties, adding that other parties were also being approached for alliances, reported Dawn."The PML-N has agreed to support the PPP candidates contesting from Karachi," PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said.

This comes in the back of a fallout between the opposition parties, most recently because of the PPP nominating Aitzaz Ahsan as their Presidential candidate instead of nominating a joint candidate last month.

The Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led party had also refused to vote for PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in the Prime Ministerial election. A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing of a suo motu case, reported Geo TV.

"Shehbaz Sharif should appear in person and explain how government officials were hired on such high incomes," CJP Mian Saqib Nisar remarked.

The president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) then asked the top court to allow him a chance to submit his response in the case.

Earlier, the attorney general Punjab told the apex court that Shehbaz did not have any role in the companies. To this, Chief Justice Nisar remarked that no activity had taken place [in Punjab] without Shehbaz’s consent.

According to the report, the top judge is said to have observed "Not even a fly flies without his [Shehbaz] order in the province. Please ask your chief minister where he is and when he will appear before the court."

Ordering National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to estimate the wealth of chief executive officers of six companies, the court said, "Please investigate how much property these officials own, so that nation's money can be returned to it."

The NAB had initiated an inquiry into multiple charges against the 56 public limited companies last year in November. 
On April 28, the Supreme Court had ordered the heads of 56 public companies, which are being investigated over a corruption probe, to draw salaries as per their pay scale.&nbsp;

Pakistan Supreme Court summons Nawaz Sharif's brother in corruption case

Punjab Province Chief Minister and former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif`s brother Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as the new chairperson of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by the party`s general council.

Shehbaz had contested for the party seat unopposed. The general council meeting was scheduled to be held last week. However, it had to be postponed after he was unwell, The Express Tribune reported.

&quot;Nawaz proposed Shahbaz&#39;s name for the party&#39;s interim president and all more than 100 CWC members approved his name unanimously. Shahbaz will continue as the party&#39;s full-time president after the general council elects him in a meeting in Islamabad next month,&quot; he said.

Nawaz was disqualified as the prime minister by the apex court in the Panama Papers case in July last year under Article 62 for failing to declare a receivable salary as an asset.

After his disqualification as prime minister, the ruling PML-N amended the Constitution to allow him to retain his chairmanship of the party.

However, the apex court last week ruled that it is mandatory for a party chief to fulfil the requirements of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution as a party head is powerful and political parties control the government.

It also said that a person who is disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution is not eligible to sign on any document needed to nominate someone to the National Assembly or Senate.

The apex court&#39;s verdict was in response to 17 petitions challenging the controversial Elections Act 2017, which had been bulldozed through parliament last year to pave the way for Nawaz&#39;s return to the PML-N&#39;s helm as party president.&nbsp;

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sharif, was also attended by Shehbaz along with federal ministers, advisers and the legal team representing the Sharif family in the Panama Papers case.

The Supreme Court yesterday concluded hearing the sensitive Panama Papers case against beleaguered Prime Minister Sharif, 67, and his family for alleged corruption and money laundering, but reserved its verdict that could jeopardise his political future.

The judgement was reserved after counsels of both sides concluded their arguments before a three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan. The bench did not immediately give any date to give its judgement.

A six-member JIT was set up in May by the Supreme Court with the mandate to probe the Sharif family for allegedly failing to provide the trail of money used to buy properties in London in 1990s.

The JIT has recommended that the report&#39;s Volume-X should be treated as confidential as it contains the details of correspondence with other countries.

So far Sharif has refused to quit, calling the investigators&#39; report a compilation of &quot;allegations and assumptions&quot;. His decision to stay in power was endorsed by the federal Cabinet last week.
